    Those LAST FEW POUNDS!

I am doing the same thing down 102 from HW and hoping to get to the 160's. I revisited the goal I had originally listed and because I really don't want to look completely "melted" I will keep an extra 10 or so on the ole body (53). I see my dr on 5/3 and will be 3 days short of my surgiversay. I hope to be below 170 (10lbs). My weight loss has slowed tremendously with a long stall (12wks) and I know I am to blame for that. I have started weighing out everything and with the warmer weather I am hoping to get some more exercise on the weekends - mowing the yard, bicycling, walking my dog...

    overeating like crazy

I'm finding myself doing something similar... keep thinking eat it now because soon you will not be eating this... I've just finished all of the insurance requirements, and they have up to 30 days to approve... then I meet with the surgeon and have my 10 day pre-op diet handed to me... I hope the insurance company doesn't take the whole 30 days because I don't need to keep this mindset where it is! Ugh. I'm relieved to know I'm not the only one Thanks for posting this!
  3. Hello Everyone! So I am currently 2 Months and a Half Post-Op from my Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (5/13/19). So far, I have had a great recovery and have had no problems getting food down. Today though, I threw up for the first time in this whole entire journey. I ate a Dill Pickle wrapped in Ham and Cheese. Is it normal for my first vomit experience to have come this late into my journey? Could it have been the acid in the vinegar from the pickle? What do you all think?
  4. I gained 6 lbs, but my first visit was last Sept!! I should have been done in June. My surgeon's office messed up and never scheduled the nutrition classes I needed. My bypass surgery is on Monday, 10/22. My surgeon scolded me, but I bit back and told him about his staff and their error, which they had admitted why everything was delayed. Also, since I started this I've seen my daughter pregnant and have her baby, my son got married in April, and my daughter got married in May. All in another state, so I traveled by car a lot! I developed a DVT from the traveling, which has since resolved. I've had steroid injections in both knees and my neck. He scolded me and told me I owed him 6 lbs by my surgery date. Whatever!! It could have been worse. I'm down over 11lbs today and ready for Monday. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. Hi all. I got my second fill last Wednesday (8/24). I was banded 5/24/11. I now have a total of 4 cc's in my 10 cc band. Here are the answers/advice I am looking for: 1.) Since my surgery I have counted calories and Protein grams. I try and eat around 1100-1200 calories/day and 100 g of protein/day. I am very hungry most days. I don't actually measure a cup or two of food but I am not eating a lot. I do not have any restriction but every once in a while I will get a stuck feel ing (I think). Does this mean the fills are working?!?! I have no other indication that they are. 2.) What exactly is the "stuck" feeling? I get a sharp pain in my upper chest. I have never had sliming or PBing (Thank Goodness!). Is what I am experiencing "being stuck"? 3.) I have only lost 8 lbs since my surgery. I lost 60 prior to surgery and think that I did better without the band. I sometimes wonder if I am not eating enough?!?!? Please let me know if you have any advice or similar stories. I am so confused and frustrated ! Thanks so much!!
  6. I feel silly asking but,............. what happens once your band is filled to capasitity ? I have now 7cc in a 10 cc band. I ve been banded for a yr and a half. I ve just never read any thoughts on the subject?

    "This crust" Pizza

Hey guys! So I was craving the taste of pizza. So I used what I have and it came out pretty good! Reminds my of a grown-up version of the lunchable pizza's which I love! (Loved) lol Heres what you need [or substitute for what you have =) ] I used : 1 wassa Rosemary cracker One tablespoon of New Mans own Natural Marinara One table spoon of Skim Milk Ricotta cheese Half of a slice of Colby Jack cheese ( I didnt have low fat mozzarella but the Colby has so much more flavor!) a sprinkle of Italian seasoning 6 slices of Hormels 70% less fat Turkey Pepperoni I put my cracker down, spread the marinara, sprinkled the italian seasoning. Then added my ricotta (small chunks I didnt spread it) and then cut up the pieces of colby jack and put it on there. Last put on my pepperoni and then put it in the microwave. maybe 15 sec watch it,,,you want the cheese to be melted. After putting it in my fitness pal it came out to be 145 calories, 10 carbs, and 11 grams of Protein =) I can only eat half then Im full So I save the other half, or only use half a cracker if I know I dont want any later. Enjoy!

    Iowa Sleeves?

I was sleeved on October 19. I am doing great for just 10 days post op. I am required to be on a liquid diet for two weeks after surgery. It is going well. For the past 3 days, I have been able to get in the recommend 60 grams of Protein in. I have a minimal amount of pain, no nausea, and was able to get a normal night's sleep last night! Life is good! I was sleeved in Omaha.
  10. My BMI was 35.4 at the time of surgery. I'm 10 weeks post op and don't regret it at all. The first few days were harder than I expected so keep realistic expectations since everyone is different. I thought mine would be a cake walk which set me up for quite a struggle those first few days.
  11. 3 months out and I feel great. It's all been a good experience for me so far. Will I feel the same way in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years? Hard to tell. I hope so!
  12. Sleeve surgery 10/19. BMI is on the lower end at 36. Lost 50lbs 5years ago and have put it all back on. Starting to feel anxious and second guess the decision. Would you do it again? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Anyone Banded After Cancer?

Loggerswife: I got my date. It's 10/7. Are you still going to be banded early October?
  14. Hi everyone! I have been toying with the idea of a band for a few years now. I had started the process again in early March of this year then got diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer. I've gone through surgery, radiation and now I'm on a hormone blocking pill for the next 10 years. My cancer was 100% estrogen positive and we all know that fat stores estrogen. Right now weightloss is my top priority. My MO, PCP and Bariatric Surgeon all agree. I just wondered if anyone else has been in a situation similar to mine? I expect to be banded early October regardless of whether insurance covers it or not. A generous friend has offered to cover the cost for me. Weightloss can help prevent reoccurance and even with knowing this I still can't control my food on my own!
  15. Hi to all. I've been lurking for some time now and I just wanted to say 'hi' and get involved on the board as I am getting my VSG done this morning (Monday, 1/18/10 at 7:30am). I'm nervous, excited, anxious, nervous and more nervous!! I've been up all night - can't sleep and I've read enough to know that the next few days won't be too much fun but I know it's all for the greater good. I do have to get a little sleep so just a quick bit of info about me - my highest weight was 451 lbs back in April 2009. I've researched WLS options and came upon the VSG alternative and it finally was the solution that I felt comfortable pursuing. I started my liquid Diet on 12/4/09 at a weight of 434 lbs and today - my surgery weight - is 379.4. Because of my extremely high weight, I went on the full liquid diet in advance so I could get a head start losing weight as I was worried about my mobility post-op. So - this should be interesting. I can't believe I'm really doing this... Note: I'm also Self Pay (my insurance only covered the band and I wasn't interested in that option) so this decision was not made lightly for multiple reasons. But I do know that based on all the good results I see from this site and my group sessions at my hospital, it will be the best investment I'll ever make... so, I'm not sure when I'll be able to signon again but I'll be looking forward to being a newbie 'sleever' and gaining all the knowledge from everyone's vast experience. And thanks again for all that you do share on this forum - it's been an amazing place to visit for months now and you guys really feel like a family. Have a great day and pray for me!!!

    Another disappointed bandster

I had very similar experience with the band. I have had my band for 3 years. Things were constantly getting stuck and I was vomiting a lot. My esophagus had ulcerations it was so raw. I lost 35 pounds post band but gained 10 back in the last 6 months. My doc removed the Fluid from my band so I could heal. I need to have gall bladder surgery so I told him to take out the band while he was in there. I didn't want it any more. He talked to me about the sleeve and we began the insurance process with doubts it would be covered. Because of poor wt loss, continued health conditions (sleep apnea and non-insulin dependent diabetes) I was shocked, surprised and excited to get approved last week and my band to sleeve revision with gall bladder removal on March 21. don't give up on your insurance company. the doctors know how to write it up so you are more likely to get approved. It is a slow process but I highly recommend pursuing it. I was going to get the band out and have nothing. The sleeve is a nice surprise.

    How To Gain Weight Post-Op

What kind of doctor recommends alcohol and soda to a post bariatric surgery patient?! I would seriously have concerns. I was warned that it is possible to lose too must weight. Of course, some people never lose as much as they would have liked so it is not across the board. I did have a friend who has Gastric Bypass who lost more than she wanted to and she consistently upped her calorie intake until she got back to where she wanted to be, but she didn't eat crap food. Keep in mind, that it is normal for people to gain 10-15 pounds within five years. My doctor said not to worry if I felt like I got a little too skinny because my sleeve would stretch a little over time and I would gain some weight.

    I Am Sleeved!

Good luck today! You've encouraged me about my date - 10/11 in just 12 days! I've read too many "complication stories" and have got myself worked up inside, emotionally, with fear. I know everything will be fine. There are more stories like yours that outweight the "horror" stories! Thanks.
  19. Hi! I just had my surgery(sleeve)Tuesday. My husband had his done last month. He is already down 40pounds! Im so proud of him, and cant wait to start having some of the same results (although much slower lol) I'm really looking for any tips that I can pass along to him as well as myself. I teach 4th grade and we own a crawfish boil n go that we run together after our day jobs. Today I returned to work (both jobs) and I was moving very slow to say the least. I'm really excited to read and learn about all of your amazing stories and I appreciate any advice you can give me. Oh, I also have 10 &4 year old boys, so if anyone has any advice or warnings.... I pray the worst is behind me, but if there is anything you can help me prepare for that would be awesome!! Tara

    Remind me again...

I am 12 weeks out. Hw 250 Cw 197. ... actually 12 weeks plus 10 days pre op. I was averaging 4.6lbs per week. Then 3.5 now it is slowing and I'll be thrilled with 2 lbs per week. I use mfp and log my weight under food notes so I can see what I weighed on any given day.
  21. Hi my name is Ashley Osgood, living in Colorado Springs CO. I started my journey for weight loss in December 2014. I had my gall bladder out in December by Dr Wilcox. He happened to be the head surgeon for weight loss surgery at Ft. Carson. That was the beginning for a whole new outlook on life then. I took a few months to think about the surgery and its complications. My mother in law lives with my husband and I. She was less than thrilled to hear of my decision for weight loss surgery. She is absolutely against it and is very vocal about it. Praying for our own place away from her very soon. Anyways I have completed my extensive checklist for tricare approval for surgery. I was finally cleared for surgery on 05/14/15, I was so excited I almost bawled!!! I made the soonest appointment with my surgeon June 10, yeah that seems like such a long wait for something you are looking forward to. Hopefully I can be seen earlier if possible. The wait times for actual surgery after you see your surgeon is about 3 weeks. looks like i might be a July sleever.

    overeating like crazy

My surgery was scheduled for 12 noon, and the day before I had my last pre op appt. at the hospital at 8 am, which took all of 5 minutes. I only had a one day liquid diet requirement after that. I'd already lost more than 10% of my weight. As I was leaving the pre op at the hospital it suddenly occurred to me that I still had about 3 hours left before that 24 hr liquid diet was supposed to kick in. I went straight to pizza Hut and ordered enough to feed a family of four. I didn't eat it all, mind you, but I did my best. The really odd thing was even after that final food funeral orgy, I still managed to lose 3 pounds by the next day. Now at seven months post op and only 7 pounds from goal, I have no regrets about that final meal. I haven't gone off diet since, and have even managed to go cold turkey on any fast foods, bread, sodas, sweets, etc. I couldn't have managed that without the surgery. So don't be too hard on yourself. A lot of us have answered that siren song so you're definitely not alone. Best wishes!
