  1. Kristina, I am in the same boat as you but you had a few more bumps than me. I was banded in June 2003 and I still have the same band. I am starting to have complications and I am petrified. I have a 3 and 1/2 year old boy and I am afraid to get this revision or even just a removal. I am 45 now and I don't want more surgeries to follow this one. I am pretty scared of the scar tissue that they might find and I have been feeling pinching sensations inside along with port pain and pain where the band is located. I am looking forward to putting this behind me soon. Best of luck tou you, keep me posted.
  2. Personally, childbirth was way worse than my band or revision. My revision was probably the least painful surgery I've endured. I had the normal gas pain, and a little bubble got trapped up near my collarbone. But, abdominal pain was honestly nothing. I was up walking, talking and laughing with the nurses. Now, for my gb surgery, that one had the most upper abdominal pain. The main area for my pain was where the port was located. During my revision, my surgeon took down and removed tons of scar tissue and adhesions so I'm shocked it didn't hurt more. Everyone's pain threshold is different, and it really varies. Most of Dr. Aceves patients refer to having little discomfort, and mainly gas pains from what I can remember reading. The drains come out before they discharge you from the hospital.

    Philly Let's Talk!

Hey Girl! Delco in the house! Jefferson is a great hospital. I am sure you are in good hands. I went to Crozer Chester for my initial RNY. Dr. Katz was good doctor with a great bedside manner. But he is out in Reading now. For my revision to DS, I went to Dr Krecioch at Fitzgerald Mercy. He is a good surgeon but I had an unusual amount of pain post surgery and I felt he wanted to divorce himself from it which was not cool.

    A New World

Gerd is definetely a commorbitity and you may find that the VSG may not be the right surgery if you already have it. The sleeve can make that condition much worse resulting in a revision to bypass down the road. I ended up having RNY gastric bypass instead of the sleeve due to Gerd. Bypass cured this disease for me along with sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. It also put my kidney disease into remission. I wish you the best of luck, just follow up with the surgeon on the commorbity and they can help you through it. You would also need to understand the required supervised diet. Many times it is 3 to 6 months and that would mean it would be next year. Once you are through the diet, then it takes some time for the insurance company to approve and then they need to find an open slot on the surgery schedule. So, that being said, it just might take you a little longer to get through it. For me, I had a 6 month supervised diet that began on 12/26 and I had surgery on 9/29....nearly 9 months.

Please go to www.wlsforum.com You have to register or you can't see all the boards. You won't get lost in the confusion there. There are many revisions over there, and they will treat you well. Post on the band board if you like and they will direct you from there. Tell them I sent ya. Good luck!
  6. I am almost at 6 months and I have heard the hunger comes back at 6 months so I will have to get back to you on that. I am never really hungry since my revision from band to sleeve. I eat because it's time to eat. I have a Protein drink when I get up, lunch at noon and dinner around 5pm. Head hunger is in the evening when I usually have a fudgesicle.

    Newbie to be

Hi Eddie!!! Saw this on my Facebook feed and had to come say HELLO! I wish we could ALL have your hubby's experience with that damned lap band. I'm in your boat, although I KNOW I want the sleeve. I was also considering getting the RNY, because I think I need that anti-cheat mechanism built in because of the dumping syndrome. However, I did my research and decided on the VSG because of the long term success numbers of it. I also see that the people who are happiest with the decision in my support group meetings are the ones who have had the sleeve done. (I've also watched my mother regain quite a bit of her weight with the RNY, whereas my sister has done remarkably well.) I wish you luck! Come say hello in the "band to sleeve revision" area if you haven't already.

Currently in the process of trying to get my iband removed and converted to sleeve. Only problem is with the gastric plication done under the band hardly any drs will even talk to me!! Band slip

Insurance paid for my revision!!! My band slipped last year and it was fixable. They fixed the same band. It was covered. I was terrified as it happened because i had no idea it was covered till after surgery. They also thought the band might have to come out. Thank God that didn't happened.

    6 Days Post Op

Follow your surgeon's instructions. Eating regular food now can cause complications. Feeling hungry now is uncomfortable but it's not going to kill you. I promise, you will survive it. Also, you're going to have to revise your idea of what "full" feels like, because you should never again eat until you feel your pre-op idea of "full". Once you're allowed to eat regular food, you should eat only until your physical hunger goes away. Not one mouthful more.
  13. Hi Wheetsin. I was SickNTired on LBT. I too am looking at revising from this crapband to a VSG. Last year, I was approved for the LB removal and every surgery except the sleeve. My surgeon's office has confirmed that they will pay for a sleeve this year so YAY!!! Where are you in your process? My fills were never good. All my surgeons could say was that I was super sensitive. I never got to the level of fill that he wanted and more than once after a fill, I'd be up by midnight dry heaving for hours. One night, I was sick for 12 hours straight. Then when I wasn't around a fill, I'd either be able to eat a horse or be PBing like crazy. It got to the point where different friends would tell me that they were worried about me b/c I would PB so "often." So, needless to say, I've never been in love with my band! My next steps are: sleep study (yuk-never had one but heard they aren't much fun), dietician appointment, and then meet with my surgeon. It's just dawned on me that she didn't mention getting a fluoro or upper GI. While I'm using the same surgeon, wouldn't he want to make sure to know what he's getting into? Anyway, I digress. A local radio station has begun running commercials for the Realize band and it just irritates me so badly. I just yell at the radio when I hear them!!!! Anyway, welcome to VST!
  14. I had the lap band for about a one and half yr . I had 2 adjustments with the end results that it had to come out. When it was removed my dr wanted me to heal some before I had a revision, during that time my company switch ins and the new plan cigna didn't cover was, now it do and I am schedule for the sleeve July 5. I am really looking forward to it because my body never accepted the band even though I lost over 80lbs.I. I was always aware of the band in my body.

    Hello All!

Hi Sara, I was just reading your message to the MN Sleevers group. I also have Dr. Svendsen has my surgeon. The funny thing is, I too, will be meeting with him on May 17th. I am having a revision; band to sleeve. Maybe we will run into each other. Welcome, Heather
  17. lost 27 pounds in three weeks since revision
  18. I couldn't have said it better myself. We are two unusal cases. I had the same thing happen to me (tubbing came apart from port) 7 wks out from my orginal surgery and had a revision.
  19. I just got back from Monterrey last Thursday where I had surgery to repair my port. My tubing had come off of the port all together and my port had to be relocated. I think I'm probably a very unusual case. For the most part, Lapband surgery is a one time event, then you get fills and that's about it. In extreme cases, erosion develops and the band has to be removed. In a few cases the band slips but I think it's pretty rare that one develops a leaky tube, then the tube falls completely off the port. Even with everything I've gone through I don't regret getting the lapband one bit. It has changed my life. My biggest fear is losing the band, but if that day happens, I will still be thankful for what it has done for me. Plus we have a lot of wonderful people that have lost their bands and continue to be inspirations to us all. So my New Year's Resolution is to take extra special care of myself and my stomach/band. I'm so greatful for it and don't want to do anything that might contribute to losing it. I'm going to be very careful about what I eat and drink and make sure that it's something that I know won't hurt my band. I've got to get rid of this "It's only once, it can't hurt" mentality. I think I take my band for granted. My doctor didn't tell me "It's got to come out" like some of you have heard for yourselves. I'm so sorry if you are one of the one's that have experienced erosion and had to have your band removed. I hear a lot of people complaining that they don't have restriction, or that they are too tight, or they aren't losing enough weight, or they're not losing it fast enough. My attitude is if you are LUCKY enough to have a functional band around your stomach, then be active in getting it to work to it's fullest potential. Quit complaining if you can eat the house for an appetizer, get a fill! Quit complaining if you pb all the time, get an unfill! Quit complaining if you're not losing 40 pounds a month, learn how to be patient with the band, it's healthier to lose slower anyway. Don't compare yourselves to others, I was guilty of this and everyone is so different that it's not fair to yourself to compare. Get your fill level right and be thankful that you have a healthy band. With all of that being said  - I hope everyone has a healthy and prosperous 2006! Tricia

Slower weight loss second time around?

I'm 3 months post op revision and the scale hasn't moved in the last 4 weeks. I've only lost 28 lbs. it's very frustrating.
  21. Hi all. I had my lap band removed yesterday for the first part of my revision. I get sleeved on the 16th, after the inflammation has a chance to go down. I am in a LOT more pain than I remember having when the band was put in. I wonder why that is? He didn't mention me having any scar tissue or having trouble wrestling the port out or anything like that, but I am bruised and sore up along my ribcage under my arms even and I find myself struggling to make myself stand up straight because it hurts worse for a bit when I stretch those muscles. I am finding I itch like crazy all over. I can take showers and I am going to try one tonight and see if that helps. Yesterday I thought it was the itchy side effect from morphine in the recovery unit, but it has been well over 24 hours now, so it can't be that. I just itch itch itch all over. I expected to be ravenous after it came out but so far today I hardly have any appetite. I made myself a nourishing "let's feel better" broth with ginger, garlic, carrots, orange juice, chicken broth etc and that tasted really good, but one bowl was plenty. Of the foods I do eat, everything tastes funny and "off" I am wondering if this is psychsomatic on my part. It is weird.. I am walking a lot and not letting my husband do too much for me so that I stay active. So that is good. The gas pains have been minimal, though I have started having a twinge of it in my shoulder this evening for the first time. My scale says I gained 11 lbs between yesterday and today. I have to assume that is front inflammation and will go back down. I start my pre-op diet for the sleeve tomorrow. Right now it sounds like way too much to get in - five shakes or bars a day and one meal consisting of 5 oz of lean Protein and 2 cups of nonstarchy veggies. Seeing that number on the scale, which I have not seen in over three years, has me kind of bummed out. So. Two weeks from tomorrow I get to go through this all again, probably right as I am starting to feel better. Ah well. I chose this. Just feeling whiny, tired and vulnerable tonight. My husand is sweet and helpful but it wears on him when I have a problem he can't fix and it makes him pretty grumpy, though he tries to hide it.
  22. Wow, You certainly do have quite a bit to think about. I guess I'd weigh my options: Can you endure any further complications (even years down the line) if you re-band? Could you succeed (or maintain your current weight) if you were completely unbanded? Has your surgeon considered revising to another form of surgery if you don't reband? All in all, your attitude sounds excellent and no matter what you'll decide, I am sure you'll succeed. Please keep us posted on your decision. Happy Band (and Life) Journeys To All...

    Daily calories and exercise

I had my revision on 3/8/16 and I'm down 30# since initial weigh in at the first appointment. Not sure what I weighed on the day of surgery. I've had a few times when I had a "starving" feeling, but if I just drink something or eat something it goes away and I move on. I am struggling with finding things that I want to eat. Nothing really appeals to me. I had something with more sugar than I thought it had because I wasn't paying attention, and it gave what can only be described as the dumping syndrome. I won't ever do that again! I'm not a sugar/sweets person anyway. I'm finding that my go-to food is turkey chili and avocado, with a little cheese. I know it sounds crazy, but it satisfies me and I get enough Protein out of it. The shakes are a struggle, and I have not been able to finish one in the last couple of weeks. I just can't get past the smell and the taste. My nurse says that will get better and my nut says to get away from the shakes anyway. She's not a fan and I'm desperately glad to hear it! I just need to use My Fitness Pal to track my eating to make sure I get enough protein. I have bought some of the New whey shots, which I understand are not favored by all, but I've done my research and I'm ok with them. They are small, pack 42g of protein, I can stomach them, and they were one of the sources of protein recommended by my doctor's office. All in all, I'm feeling very good about my surgery and recovery. I had my follow up appt. today and was released to return to full activities and instructed to start exercising. It is a struggle that I have yet to overcome. I did buy some new workout shoes, now I just have to put them on and get to steppin'! I go back for my next visit in six months. That's not until the fall. I am really looking forward to what summer brings!
  24. newstartme, I didn't have a revision but I found myself drinking Isopure before my 1st week follow-up appointment. I was drinking the broth--which I'll never be able to drink again and found myself feeling weak. As soon as I drank the Isopure--I felt so much better. Congratulations on your life changing surgery. Blessings, Kathleen
  25. Hi everyone, I'm banded but seriously thinking about RNY for long term benefits and lower risks compared to band. Went to a seminar today and the surgeon preferred the RNY over the band and even said it was considered the "Gold standard" what is everyones thoughts and feelings on this topic? Do you know anyone who has had an RNY or are you having a revision surgery to the RNY? Please share!
