65 pounds to lose, how long?

I must be your twin, well your taller twin (5'5") I started at 195 BMI 32.4 and my goal is 130 BMI 21.6. That is 65 pounds. I was banded 10/20/09 and I want to be at goal 7/4/10. So I have 9 weeks to lose 16 pounds so I better get busy!
  3. I had some really bad pains at my port site for about 3 weeks after surgery. It does go away. I don't feel it now at all! It's because it's attached to muscle. My port is on my left side. As long as it's inside not the actual would then i wouldn't worry too much. But if in doubt go back to your surgeon or Doctor! Hope you feel better soon!
  4. Well...the time has come and now I'm getting scared. I have to be at the hospital tomorrow at 11:30 am for my 1:30 pm surgery. I can't believe that it's here...on one hand I'm excited (Optifast for the past two weeks has been horrible), and on the other hand I'm terrified. Lots of emotions going through me right now. What have I done to myself to make me get to this point? Why do I need a band around my stomach so I can lose weight...why can't I do it myself? Will I be able to do it with the band? Hopefully after all of this is done and I'm working with the band I'll feel better about all of this. Did you guys feel this way too? Any advice for me? You guys are all so great and have done a wonderful job with your weight loss. If I can do as great as you, I will know that I have made the right decision. Thanks guys!!!

    Exercise and Port Pain

Calm down and try to rest, the pain will go away in a few days. Don't think about exercise yet, your body needs to heal and you are probably full of gas too. Two weeks post op is a good time to start.
  6. Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've come up here. I was sleeved on August 4th 2014. My starting weight pre - op was 224lbs, as of this morning, I am not 172lbs. Honestly I've been messing up pretty bad. Although my portions have been pretty small about 3-4 oz per meal, I've basically been eating what ever I want. It's been pretty difficult to get in the swing of things; with school, a baby, wifely duties, etc. I've worked out a few times since I was physically able. I haven't seen my surgeon in over a month. (I have no idea why they haven't called me back to reschedule) anyways I'm just feeling like a failure.im not sure if I should be losing more. I know I need to choose healthier options and fit in am exercise routine. Anybody feel the way I've been feeling? Any any encouragement or tips would be appreciated. Thanks. Sorry for the long post.
  7. 1200 cals should get you pretty good nutrition and your resting metabolic rate is at least 1200 cals, so you have at least 3500 cal a week deficit. I agree that doing the math should put you at about one and a quarter-two pound loss, plus, but sometimes it takes a week for things to shift...try not to fret too much for a couple of weeks. Mimi

You should call your Dr. you my have an infection,I had an infection for three weeks befor it came out,if it warm to touch and painful you should. Good luck
  9. As of today, I am down 120 lbs. from my highest weight. My HW was 374 when I had my first appointment with a new endocrinologist in July 2019. My A1C was creeping up again and I was put on Victoza. I made a conscious effort beginning at that point, to maximize the weight loss side effect of the medication. I lost about 60 lbs. by the end of the year. In January 2020, my insurance began to cover WLS. I had my first appointment that month. The process of classes, doctor visits and supervised weight loss was going to take a minimum of 6 months. The insurance and program mandated everything was done through program providers. There was no option to see my local doctor or dietician. Covid slowed down my progression and I also made the choice not to rush to surgery when it first became available again. By the fall, I was ready to proceed. I managed to not gain a tremendous amount back (about 8-10 lbs.) but wanted to stop the trend. I decided to schedule surgery for right before the holidays so I could minimize the time off from work for recovery. I weighed 325 on the day of surgery on 12/14/20. Today, I am 254. Surgery was relatively easy for me. I had post-op discomfort, but no pain. I was able to tolerate and progress through food stages as expected. I’ve not been hungry or overly full since surgery. I do experience old, bad habits trying to creep in at times. I know that is always going to be the case. Surgery did not eliminate my want for food nor the thought of how nice it would be to eat large quantities again. That will also be an on-going battle. The hardest daily thing for me is not to eat and drink at the same time and then to wait until time has passed before I drink again. Eating slowly and thoroughly chewing has been a challenge (with sometimes painful reminders) but I am gradually getting more mindful. I feel better than I have in years. I don’t remember the last time I weighed 250. I would like to get to 180 but don’t know if that is achievable or realistic to maintain. We’ll see. I’m tall so that weight would put me just slightly over normal weight. I recently had 3 month labs run. Everything was normal and my T2 diabetes is currently in remission. I stopped all diabetes meds the day of surgery. The pressure was lowered on my CPAP but there is still a need for it. I’m not done. Even if I never lost another pound, I’m happy with the changes and the regaining of health. One of my primary motivators was the desire to not lose mobility. I’m fortunate that I’ve never had any issues with mobility but I could see the writing on the wall if I stayed the way I was or continued to gain. I did not want to have to participate in any of the pre-surgery preparation. I just wanted to have surgery and be done. I thought I knew all there was to know. And while I did know a lot going in, I really did learn things and have benefitted from listening and following the plan provided. I did not want to weigh, measure or track my food. But I did (and continue to) and it’s paying off. I’m troubled sometimes by questions that I read on this board and it leads me to wonder about the quality (or lack of) preparation that other programs offer. It makes me grateful that for once, I listened and learned. What I take away from this board is the wisdom and experience of others who are going through the WLS process now and those veterans who share strategies that have helped. I try remember that everyone’s experiences are slightly different but I still look for common themes (same process I use when I read vacation/resort reviews).

  13. So far bafflement... still undergoing tests but nothing conclusive so far... has anyone else experienced post-op complications several years out? Surgery July 2016. Only lost 100lbs (I know, I know, "only"), but I'm still about 100lbs overweight. I'm not unhappy w/the amount lost at all and feel much better overall so I do not regret the surgery. First, not sure any or all of these symptoms are related at all but since they're all (potentially) GI-related, I can't help but think (especially now) that they are. So here goes: I can't remember exactly when the first one occurred, but it was after "healing" for sure but the first time it happened, it was definitely after surgery: a charlie-horse in my abdomen. These occur very suddenly and occur when I'm bending, reaching or twisting my abdomen--but always forward, not backward. For example, I might just tuck my belly in to look down at my feet and whammo, charlie horse. I reach forward to pick up a kitten... whammo. They can happen at any time and are excruciatingly painful and I just jerk backwards in reaction and take diaphragmatic breaths and they'll ease up. About 4 months ago, I had a sudden pain "attack" after eating a relatively fatty meal... I'm talking waves of pain in the gut so intense that I actually called 911. Since I still have my gallbladder, I assumed gallbladder problems. Pain lasted about 7 hours or so, even through narcotics given in the ambulance and at the hospital. Worst pain I've ever felt in my life. Multiple tests run... no gallstones, so they basically sent me home after the pain finally subsided with a ridiculous "gastritis" diagnosis. Sorry, was crapola. About 6 weeks after that, I started to have diarrhea... for over two weeks straight, every single day. Didn't respond to OTC anti-diarrheals. Saw walk-in doc (my doc was on vacation) who ran a bunch of tests and nothing positive except blood in the stool. Diarrhea eventually cleared. PCP ordered endoscopy and colonoscopy--both normal. About 6 weeks ago, another pain attack--but not after fatty meal... just yogurt. This time I remembered I had meds at home--took anti-spasmodics (hyoscyamine) and oxycodone... took 3x regular dose to make pain tolerable. Faded again after about 7 hours. PCP suspects gallbladder function is to blame, even though no stones, so HIDA test this Thursday. In the timeline, this pain attack was about a week after the diarrhea cleared up... about a month ago. But here's the deal: I can physically (i.e. with my hands) feel that under that trocar scar is a hardening of tissue... it makes sense that it's scar tissue of course, but I feel like it's getting bigger? (as in, over a wider area, not deeper). It's not painful when pressure is applied, just uncomfortable? I have not yet brought this part up to PCP, but she has palpated my abdomen before and didn't call out anything as unusual. So I'm at a loss as to what's going on but something definitely is. Anyone experience anything at all like this? Especially those who are years out from surgery? So confused and tired of taking tests that aren't leading anywhere... thank goodness I have excellent insurance. Michelle
  14. If i I was exercising 6 days a week a couple hours a day I saw small weight loss. I wasn't really concerned as I'm nearin my goal weight. 20 more pounds. But keeping up that pace was and is difficult. I went for my 1 year check up and what I thought would be a 1/2 to 1 cc fill. I was really amazed it turned out to be a 3 cc fill and probably should have been a 4cc fill. It was explained to me my stomach has shrink and the band wasn't restricting like it should.
  15. Right after fills liquid for 2 days and pureed for 3 days. When my band is open like it is now will it tolerate the foods that are prohibited after fills?
  16. I'm heading to California this week to visit a friend and although I'm so excited to travel, this marks the first time I've been on a plane in about five years and I'm starting to get nervous. Nervous about getting a belt extender if needed, worried about the stories that have been in the news lately of airlines asking for passengers of size to buy extra seats/exit the plane, etc. Maybe I'm overreacting but this is why I haven't flown in so long. Any stories of flying lately and/or advice?!?

    5 months post op

Nope, don't beat yourself up. Slips happen...just move forward. You know what you should eat, so it's a brand new day! I'm 8 months out and I eat 4-6 meals a day. Each meal is 4-5 oz and contains 3 oz Protein with 1-2 oz veggies. My meals are generally 200-250 calories. I try to keep carbs under 10g per meal. I don't eat bread, Pasta, rice, or potatoes. I limit processed foods as much as possible. I don't eat organic because I'm a tightwad, but I do buy fresh meats/veggies as much as possible. I weigh all my food when I'm preparing my meals to keep me from over-indulging. I eat pretty fast still, so I need to keep my portions below my sleeve capacity. Best of luck to ya!
  18. I did! My first week post op I had dreams (nightmares) of eating chicken while I was still on clear liquids. I'd wake up in a panic- sweaty & breathing fast& terrified thinking "omg, I need to go to the hospital!" But then I'd realize it's just a dream. LOL

    Ok, Am I Beating Myself?!

By whole cup do you mean a full cup, or a 5oz yogurt container, or 4 oz yogurt? How did you feel? Are you supposed to be eating that already? I did full liquids for a couple weeks. I couldn't even drink an 8oz Protein shake in one sitting the first few weeks after surgery. I'm unsure how you kept all that down. I'm almost 11 weeks out from surgery and I still can't eat a whole cup of anything. Not sure if you over did it, what do you think? I think only you can answer that question. My best advise is to talk to your NUT as soon as possible, and make sure you are eating the right things, and the right amounts. If you are having issues with head hunger....my best advice I tell everyone, get to a therapist, asap. That could be the very thing that helps you if you feel you are eating too much this soon after surgery. I wish you luck with everything.

    my docs VERY strick diet

Let me guess ... you must be a Fox patient! I've spoke to others in this field and they all say the same thing, that Fox "tweaks" the diet to call it his own. I've heard his patients are more successful ... but then again ... there are many Bandster Pros out there that aren't with Fox and they've done great! Fox also says no sugar, no milk and only eat what you can fit into that tiny medicine dispenser cup ... 2 oz? I felt a few things about his plan were absurd, like staying on a liquid diet for 4 weeks post-op. Most everyone is HUNGRY and want to chew food again by that time! I know someone else that has went through him and never did stick to his "special" diet ... and she lost all her weight in a good amount of time and looks terriffic! my docs VERY strick diet

Shuzy, You need to check out one of the posts on the support forum. I think the title was something about Not losing. Someone several replys down posted a "stage" plan where the first stage is just Water, second stage is clear liquids, next stage is thicker liquids and so on. This person indicated that as soon as they felt they were tollerating the current stage well they could try the next. If they had trouble they were to go back a stage for a few days then try again. I did the liquid for 2 weeks and I was starving. I was really low on energy. I started putting chicken in the blender to mush it up and then thought this is rediculous, so I just tried chewing it very slowly and I did fine. Being on solid foods and more Protein has made all the difference. Now I have all my energy back and am exercising twice a day. I don't understand the philosophy of putting yourself in starvation mode. That defeats the purpose of eating less.

    6 month check up

I agree with Coops. My doctor's number one recommendation was to do the intervals on the treadmill. It keeps your body from getting too used to the workout. I started walking 3.4 pace/jogging 4.0 pace, slowing increased the length of time I was jogging. Now doing jogging 4.3 pace for 3 min & then adding in a minute at 4.8 pace. Once I can do 20 min at a 4.8 pace I will try to add in a few minutes at 5.2 pace. It really helps cardiovascularly. Good luck!
