What NSV do you hope for post op?
JAM72 replied to Kelly84's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am anxiously waiting for my final insurance approval and surgery date. As I've been waiting, I've been thinking a lot about this topic. My top NSVs are: 1. Be able to get through my yoga class without having to modify the poses because my body is too big to get into the proper position. 2. Recognize myself in the mirror. Today, I avoid them because I don't recognize the person staring back at me as "me." It's so uncomfortable when your insides don't match the outside. 3. Be able to cover myself in a standard sized towel rather than a bath sheet. I travel a lot and hotel towels are never big enough! 4. Enjoy (or at least not dread) having my picture taken. I regret that I have so few pictures of myself and my kids when they were small. 5. Not dread going to school and my kids' sporting events for fear of being the biggest mom there (most other moms in my area are pretty fit). 6. Not having to shop in the plus-sized section or order everything online because the clothing stores I like don't carry my size in-store. -
Today I had a NSV. At work (a popular gym) it was pizza night ( don't get me started on that), and I didn't have one peice not even a BITE and for the most part I wasn't even tempted. I ate my lunch and drank my Water. At one point I walked over to the boxes and even opened it up and I was strong enough to say no. I've also been doing really well with my eating. Side note: anyone else who was told to swallow and wait 60 seconds to take another bite? I've been using the stop watch on my phone and find it helps me a lot! What NSV do you hope for post op?
Shylarose replied to Kelly84's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So, here I am, just a few days shy of 9 months post-op. Some of my favorite NSVs have been a surprise to me. Here are my favorites: 1. Having to buy new shoes. Who knew your feet would shrink. 2. Running a 12 minute mile. I hate running, but I had to try...just because I could now run. 3. Not having to expend mental energy every time I go to sit, stand, bend over, or any other physical activity I used to have to think about before doing it. 4. Being told by my Primary Care doctor that she didn't need to see me every 4 months any more, but just twice a year as I am now considered to be a healthy person with no issues. 5. Having a group of Firemen flirt with me in the grocery store. I looked behind me, because I was certain they were talking to someone over my shoulder. =) Seriously, at 50 this is quite the NSV. 6. sleeping through the night and waking up with energy. Loving my sleeve and so glad I had the surgery. -

My surgery was 8/3/16 and my favorite NSVs have been: 1. moving my seat up in the car - yes!!! 2. People noticing the cute dresses I own instead of my lumps and bulges 3. Energy!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
In the past year, my cholesterol has dropped 34 points, my triglycerides plunged a whopping 114 points, my blood sugar dropped 6 points, and my blood pressure is 120/75. I got rid of 10 pounds of fat in the past 3 months and 2 inches are GONE from my waist. My pants that were once my sausage pants (you know, so tight basically like sausage casings for your thighs) are loose and comfortable. My shirts are getting baggy and my bra doesn't fill up like it used to. I am loving my lap band

Starting Weight: 311 Surgery Weight: 292 Weight Today: 240.2 Weight Loss: 70.8 lbs Target Weight: 205 My favorite NSV is buying and wearing normal clothes again. I'm a regular XL now in most shirts, and I have a brand new pair of 38 jeans that are actually loose on me. I'm eating mostly what I want, but what I want seems to be mostly Protein and low carb...with some exceptions lol. Thanks to everyone for all the great posts that have been a huge help. siera63 replied to siera63's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Laughter is healing. I truly believe that! We should always find something funny in our daily lives. Lord knows that at this point in my life something is ironic or comical at least every 15 minutes. Today- after a bitter fight with my scale, it is now in time out till that Bitch learns to speak nicely to me. And my jeans with the unruly zipper and button may end up with the canine security forces along with the hostile bra. I can't wait for my NSV when I can buy a cute well behaved bra and jeans that zip without pliers. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -

Abby wow. I have my op next Tuesday's my biggest fear is that I change who I am. Since I was 5 my nickname is Ollie everyone calls it me my family friends colleagues all. I'm not sure people even know my name is Anthony. Why Ollie? Oliver hardy. I love it ...Ollie is me. I can't be call Stan! I go on this journey to get healthier, fitter to prolong my life. A life that I love. I can't wait for my NSVs I have a list of them. I know a new life awaits.... But I will always be Ollie. I'm not ashamed, it made me know I am. I love me, others love me. Abby I have seen you before an afters..... You have inspired me and I have one more guilty secret...... I saved the picture of your eyes... They are amazing... The gateway to your soul.. Beautiful. They have always been your eyes... Always beautiful. Along our life journey we encounter assholes. Ignorant, total disregard for effect that words can have. You have been strong to do what you have done, achieving so much. Use that strength to counter said assholes, they will never understand. You are beautiful, amazing, inspirational to 1000s of us but most of all you are you. Thank you, if I achieve part of what you have achieved I will be very happy. -

Hey guys, I had gastric bypass surgery on June 20, 2016. Even though the road has not always been easy, I am so grateful to my surgeon and my family for being there for me when I decided to change my life. I lost 61 pounds so far and am 49 pounds away from my goal weight. However, I want to shine a light on some non scale victories that motivated me to keep going. I went from a size 1X-XL to a size L and am super close to being a size M. My skin is clearing up (I barely get acne and the dark spots are fading). I feel more confident, more healthy, more energetic, and most importantly, happier. What are your NSVs?

Late June Sleeve Buddies?
suzzzzz replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@suzzzzz That's tragic about the popsicles...I've been eating them too and had no idea they have that many carbs. May have to reevaluate them, but they've kept me sane at times! I hear you about the shot metabolism...all those years of losing/gaining/losing have destroyed mine. Congrats on the nsv. It is exciting to wear a new smaller size. I tried on lots of things in my closet over the weekend and found some new things that fit again and a couple of things too big. I'll take it. And socializing does take us off track but it is better than living a boring life trying to control everything. I am going to a fun wedding this weekend and I am preparing myself for a gain from it, just in case. And yes, sugar free popsicles, wish I hadn't read the box! I am going to get a popsicle mold and make some from crystal light once I finish what is in my freezer. Now, if I could only eat one popsicle a day, the carbs wouldn't bother me. Grrr. Have a great losing week everyone! -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
ShelterDog64 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I finally lost a whole pound over the weekend but unfortunately, it found me again We also went to dinner at friends' home and I grazed/ate over a few hours...got in a LOT of calories and way too many carbs. They didn't know I'd had surgery so it was a teeny bit awkward. I told them about it and they were super supportive but I didn't prepare well for being in a situation where we sat and chatted, nibbling on food and drinking wine. Not as much exercise as I should get, either, so not my best weekend. I'm back on track this week! I did have a lovely NSV, I had ordered some denim capris from Talbots end of season sale in a 12 and a 10...I wore the 12s this weekend! I haven't been out of plus sizes in forever, so that was great! Focusing on THAT and getting over my food stupidity is what I'm planning for the coming week. @@magoosmom I'm so happy to hear that you're seeing good results on the scale. I don't envy you younger women who have to contend with your cycles while doing this weight loss thing...I've been menopausal for about 18 mos (although the hormone dumps have caused some bleeding ) and it's nice to not have to deal with the water weight gain. @@suzzzzz That's tragic about the popsicles...I've been eating them too and had no idea they have that many carbs. Today I am officially not "plus sized" what a colossal NSV for me!
Sajijoma posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I went shopping today because I desperately needed pants that fit. I wasn't sure what would fit so I tried on 16's and they were too big. Then I tried on 14's and they were kinda loose. I thought just for jiggles I'd try on some 12's and they fit! I was so shocked I actually broke down crying in the changing room. I have always been good at keeping my emotions locked down tight, but in there at that moment, I totally lost it and started bawling and LOUD. The changing room attendant knocked on the door and asked if I was ok. It took me awhile, but I managed to get the words out that I was ok and that I had found out I was a smaller size than I thought I was. I'M sure she thought I had lost my ever loving mind, but for me, this is a monumental thing. I had been an overweight kid and an obese adult, my entire life! The size I put on and zipped up, I NEVER had been that size. The closest I had to being that size was a size 11 juniors in 4th grade, so here I am, over 30yrs later and I am finally smaller than I was in 4th grade. It was monumental. I also discovered why it's important to check the price tag before falling in love with a pair of pants because $115 for a pair of pants I probably won't get more than a couple months wear out of was just too much, so I had to put them back. Broke my heart, but I did go on to find other 12's and some 14's that worked and I am officially not plus sized anymore. I can shop in the regular section with all the cute clothes!❤️ From 32/34 and some 36 down to a size 12 in less than a year...all I can say is wow! Thanks RNY for giving me a life I didn't know was attainable! -

Nsv on a Labor Day weekend!

As for a lil' background info, my heart suckeths. Had first heart attack at 37 (stents), artery RCA collapsed 2 of the stents (more stents), Internal Cardiac Device implanted (ICD pacemaker/defibulator), forced to retire (was a Deputy Sheriff), second heart attack at 39 (more stents), umpteen caths (and a few more stents). Been on the list for a transplant for some time. Decided on the Gastric Sleeve after my Heart Failure Specialist said that loosing weight would help me move up on the list, in addition to numerous other benefits. Had the procedure on 05/26/16, in total down 82lbs. so far. Have been using my nitro quite a bit more the past few months, seems to go in cycles. My doc advised that I had not had a cath since 2014, and felt it best that they go in a check. All my previous stent placements had been in the RCA (which is pretty much a solid line of stents by this time). They found 2 additional blockages in different areas this time (2 more stents). Now for the NSV part... I have several tats. Two different nurses commented on the tats and said that they thought they recognized them (the John Lennon one in particular). When I told them that I was a frequent flier at OSU, both asked if I had lost quite a bit of weight. Same thing happened in the Cath Lab prior to surgery with two different surgeons. This in addition to the fact that the nurse whom gave me the obligatory belly button to knee shave being cute, definitely brightened my stay. Back home today and watching OSU and BG.

Oh sweetie! That's not being nosy, it's a very valid pre op question. You will have tons of responses but for me this- - I can walk. And walk a lot! - I can touch my toes and cross my legs and reach around my back to fasten my bra - I am no longer tied to the "living to eat" modality, rather I eat to live. This is key, because more often than not, I don't experience hunger and I need to remind myself to eat - I can tour college campuses with my children and this one is huge because last year with my son I could not and it really became a focus for me during this process. There is nothing worse than taking your child to see colleges and sitting around waiting while they are touring. - my chronic conditions have literally disappeared, including my rheumatoid arthritis - the disease which got me to obese to begin with -I FEEL GREAT! And have more self confidence than I've experienced in years - I'm much more social than I've been in years -I can "keep up" with anyone!! - I can shop off the rack anywhere now There are so many more, we call them NSV's- non surgical victories- things that you don't realize -or that you were missing it- until after it happens and the light bulb goes off. Good luck! Lisa HW 283 SW 272 CW 180 Surgery RNY 3/23/2016 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
