Stop when full, or push on to get required protein in - confused
ShelterDog64 replied to trekker954's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I haven't been able to find Protein2O in any store in the Tacoma, WA area, and I'd love to try it. I may bite the bullet and order some but the shipping is terrible. Like @@LisaMergs, I'm not much interested in food anymore. It's just a job now, instead of my very favorite hobby, but I still like to cook which actually was a hobby of mine and the eating was a secondary part of it. I exist on mostly yogurt, string cheese, refried Beans, Fairlife milk (if you haven't tried this yet, get it right away) and GENEPRO Protein powder. I eat a few bites of vegetables most nights with my family and their meal, but I don't eat with gusto like I used to. I know my hunger is going to come back at some point, so for the time being I'm enjoying this 'meh' relationship with food and am trying to shed as much weight as possible. We're having friends over for Thanksgiving dinner today and I'm making part of the meal, they're bringing part. Even cooking all this normally gorge-worthy food hasn't make me hungry, eating the actual meal should be interesting Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! -
Unflavored protein powder recommendation
OKCPirate replied to nrg33's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I am with you Bluesea71, GENEPRO is tasteless. I put it in my pre-workout drink and it dissolved well, mixed well and tastelessly with my eggs. It is worth trying. I have been trying to get my protein up closer to 200g per day, and at 30g a serving this could supplement the 100g I am getting from regular food sources. -
Best protein powder- mixed and premade!
magoosmom replied to Red_lips_and_confidence's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't done any of the premade ones yet. I am using Optimum Nutrition's vanilla flavor powder. It has 24 grams of Protein per scoop and was recommended by my doctor's office. It isn't overly sweet to me. I mix it in a Blender Bottle with 8 ounces of Water for most shakes. I have found one shake that I really like b/c it's not very sweet at all. It's 1 scoop of the ON powder, 4 ounces of Fairlife milk, 4 ounces of water, and 2 tablespoons of PB2 powdered Peanut Butter. Not thick either. My other strong recommendation is GENEPRO unflavored powder. It's 30 grams of protein for one small scoop. I am a seriously picky eater and thought it would bother me, but it really doesn't taste like anything much. I have even added it to a cup of iced tea and all it did was make the tea taste powdery LOL. But easy to drink. -
Hi all - thanks for replying! I found the culprit - my period started today! No one was more surprised than me! Me?? A perfect 28 day cycle?? It had been pretty regular at 35 days for the last couple of years, but before that it could be anywhere from 18 to 100+ days. I have no doubts that the surgery is working on my hormones and metabolism. I feel better today - cramps and achey back, but energy level good. My B12 levels were off the chart high at my 6 week follow up - my dr and I actually laughed about it. D and iron a little low, but higher than they used to be. Thanks for the heads-up about Genepro. I'm not using it as my main source and try to make sure that I get 60g a day outside of it. But I'll keeping looking for good supplements.

I am 4 post of RNY, I can't tolerate the pre-made protein shakes or the super sweet powders. I help meet my requirements by: *1 cup Low Fat Fairlife Milk (13 grams or protein, 80 calories) + 2 scoops Genepro (pkg says 1 scoop = 30grams of protein, but I only count it as 15 and 58 calories). Thats 43 grams of protein in an 8 ounce cup of milk. I warm it up, and add a splash of sugar free vanilla or caramel syrup, resembles a sugar free steamed milk from starbucks. *2 scoops of Genepro unflavored protein powder in an 8 ounce glass of decaf hot tea, my favorite is the celestial seasons, Blueberry and Mixed Berry. Note: If you go the warm route, you will need a small thermometer to make sure your water/milk is no more than 125 degrees or the powder will get a weird texture....anything less and it mixes in completely...mildest protein taste I have found so far.

Rx Weight Loss Meds Post-op?
SummerTimeGirl replied to LAJ23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never tried the Unjury brand protein powder that you say you don't always get a full scoop of so I don't know how big their portion size is but, have you tried any other brands? I know Genepro's, for example, 1 scoop of protein is way smaller (and has better absorption than many others) than others and packs more protein. In fact I know many other patients who just mix the one scoop, and some do two, to a few ounces of water or flavored water and down it as sort of a shot, just to get it in and over with for the day. Maybe you just need to sample some others? -
BariatricPal Products
shedo82773 replied to Lindsay_Sayz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have tried some of their products. The chicken noodle soup is great. Their Salted Pretzel protein bars are good also. I bought a lot of their food right after I had my RNY butt what I found was they like most everyone has rice and pasta in them, at first I couldn't and wouldn't eat Pasta, Rice or bread. These are things that I worked up too. I am over 4 years out and I just started using these products. As for Protein Powder, I love GENEPRO unflavored. I add it to my Espresso every day. One of their new releases is TIMOTHY"S ACID FREE COFFEE", it is nice flavorful coffee. Kind of expensive but ok. I have also bought Vitamins thru them I buy CELEBRATE. You can also go on the internet and search for items. The premade protein I like is ATKINS, the POWERCRUNCH protein bars are good also. Good Luck on your Journey and have a great day. -
Fav protein snack after gastric sleeve

At the moment, I still really love coffee with cream, plus a tablespoon of Genepro. It's a calming morning ritual. I love string cheese too... -
Thoughts on Protein Powders (Premier, Unjury, etc.)
ShelbyMoore replied to ToughButFair's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Genepro Medical Grade protein powder. I add a scoop of it to certain foods when I need to get my protein in. There is no taste to it. I mix it first in a small amount of liquid to get the clumps out then I mix it in whatever I put it in. I liked premiere choc protein shakes before surgery and still do. I have one a day. I use Genepro protein powder as a fill in. I bought my Genepro Medical Grade protein powder on Amazon. It delivered the same day - I was surprised. It comes in a small bag with 30 servings. I hope that helps. -
Genepro protein rocks!
Lisa Mccarroll replied to puttingme1st's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
ooooo whats genepro??? fill me in this is the first i have heard of it -
I have been using genepro a full serving is 30g of protein or something like that. Its flavorless and odorless. You have to get it on amazon though. It will come in handy when you start your pureed stage. It helps expand the variety of food you can eat.

The Good The Bad & The Nasty
shedo82773 replied to KristyAB's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Be aware!! I got jumped on like dirt on a shirt for singing the praises of GENEPRO> Got called an idiot because I said that it had 30grams of protein. I was told that there is no way that 1 tablespoon of it could have 30grams. Oh well, love it and every one of my bloodwork for the last 4 years has been great!! In fact, my B vitamins are slightly too high. LOL Just a warning if you get in trouble just roll with it like I did. LOL -
What's for breakfast?
Katcloudshepherd replied to tamg26k's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Love all the great ideas! I forgot to add to my comment that I put some coconut manna in my oatmeal and stevia along with the Protein powder and a little milk. I use the GENEPRO unflavored protein powder that I order from Amazon. It is a smaller scoop for 30 grams of protein and the powder is finely ground. It does add a slight milk like taste to what you put it in but that works well with oatmeal. You could add walnuts for crunch, chia seeds for crunch etc. Have a good one everybody, Kathleen -
Not eating soft foods yet! Exhausted and can’t get all protein in
bobt1 replied to amartinez8853's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Protein can be added to soups. Lots of Soups go easily in the blender. I used mostly canned vegetable and veg beef. Also made a homemade Soup called "Souper easy Mexican Bean Soup" that was great, wife liked it very much without the blending. Recipe out on internet. I would simply blend up enough for 3-4 servings and package them in individual servings of say 4-5 oz each. Baby oatmeal or even blended regular oatmeal works real well. Cottage cheese became a favorite even blended with some No Sugar added peaches. Pureed tuna salad and chicken salad worked real well. I think a key is finding a truly "No Flavor and taste free" Protein that you can add to anything. I tried several of the non-flavored versions of brand Proteins but they always added some vanilla taste to anything I mixed them with. Didn't always go well as I did throw more than 1 item away. I finally found GENEPRO, a truly tasteless Protein Powder. You can mix 1 TBsp of the powder for 30 gm protein into plain Water with no taste. While it seems much more expensive per ounce it really isn't per serving. I usually add 1 or 2 tsp (10gms protein each) to things I need or want more protein from with no change in taste. Bottom line, I can now add protein to anything I want to, even my decaf coffee. -
My personal problem with GENEPRO is that their nutrition label does not "add up". There is 4 calories in 1 gram of Protein. 1 scoop has 30 grams of protein...there should, at a minimum, be 120 calories in 1 scoop...but 1 scoop only contains 98 calories....which means that the protein in genepro is somehow being manufactured in a manner that is not natural...on the flip side...all max protein is manufactured in Canada (a country that is very stringent in the supplement market with nutritional information) and their protein has 28 grams per scoop with 115 total calories (112 for pure protein and 3 grams of "fillers)....you simply do not know what u are getting in genepro Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

The four cals per gram is the issue. It's a misconception. If you take a look at Genepro's website they have a video explaining their process. It's actually quite clear and scientifically proven. Their process is very advanced and fascinating. And for the record I don't work there or know them or anything lol. I'm from Canada and it's expensive to buy here, but it's worth it IMHO. Hi! I'm only day 5 post op but have a question... When you make your protein drink it's at least 8 oz right? Is this a meal replacement for you or a snack in addition to your meals? Confused on how someone said they can take a Greek yogurt and glass of Oj with genpro in morning.. Wouldn't that be too much for stomach?? Thanks for your insight Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App Hi! I put one scoop of Genepro (30 gram protein equiv) in about a quarter cup of OJ. So overall very little volume. I take it almost like a shot glass of alcohol. At first I had to take smaller sips. I also have a standard serving of Greek yogourt and my multivitamins in the morning with it. Hope that clarifies! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thanks for that, that makes sense. I was thinking you did 8oz of oj. Gonna try genpro, doing unjury now and I can taste it Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

I've been using GENEPRO and I love it. I mix it into coffee, Soups, puddings, juices. So versatile. I'm from Canada and I started ordering it off GNC.com. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I also agree on GENEPRO. It has been a life saver for me. I had several ups & downs with not being able to eat during the first 2 months. My surgeon said as long as I took my Vitamins & drank Protein, I would be ok. I hated the Bariatric Advantage & couldn't tolerate the unjury. I found that I liked cherry crystal light with the Genepro. Each scoop is 30 protein & I was getting 8 oz Water - bonus! It's been over 3 months now & I can eat anything. I do have a craving for Kraft Zesty Italian lite, so I have lots of salads. I've lost 55 lbs & have 35 to go. Hope that helps. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I hate genepro- it def has a strong taste and changes the consistency of drinks- though I have never tried it in orange juice. I am trying unjury next Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I've used GENEPRO for months, now on my second order (soon to be a third--great stuff!!). I can put it in anything, can't taste it and I know I've hit my Protein goals of the day. No digestive problems at all.

5 days post op rxy gastric bypass so lost..
tankheadmommy replied to sarah ft's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had the lapband in 2009 and it was removed in 2017. I had RNY in Dec. I also had difficulty with feeling full and I had discussed this with other lapband revision patients and they have experienced this as well. I just made sure I measured everthing so I would heal properly. I still measure everything, because I do not get a full feeling. I used to cry when my family ate, because I wanted their food and I could not eat it. I spent a lot of time in my room when they ate to help me cope. When I started eating food, I started to feel better and I stopped feeling sorry for myself. I ended up being lactose intolerant, so I was not able to consume any diary. This could be the issue behind some of your GI issues. I felt so much better once all dairy was out of my diet. I used Nectar Fuzzy Navel and Genepro to help with my protein needs when I was on liquids. By the way, I also tasted food and then spit it out. We have food issues and it takes time after surgery (maybe a lifetime) to work through our food issues. We need to be kind and love ourselves even when we make a bad choice. I hope this helps you to feel better.[emoji4] Sent from my SM-T818T using BariatricPal mobile app -
I began adding GENEPRO Protein powder to my diet a few weeks ago, and have been pleased with it. One tablespoon scoop delivers 30 grams of protein, and it dissolves very well into both hot and cold drinks without adding any flavor or aroma. I don't know if it's a matter of causation or just correlation, but I broke my five week stall shortly after adding it to my daily diet. I've read mixed reviews on here with some saying it doesn't deliver on its promises, but the majority of others raving about it. For me, it's been beneficial and I plan on repurchasing. I'll post the link in case it is of interest to you: http://www.amazon.com/Musclegen-Research-Genepro-Medical-Servings/dp/B00K6OSDYA/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1457587782&sr=8-1&keywords=genepro+protein
