    Need to lose 10lbs

I had to get 5 lbs off in 5days for the last weigh in. I drank lots of water, but also took water pills once or twice a day so I wouldnt retain that water. Might be a lil tmi but I am not a regular person I dont have a bm for 3 or 4 days, so I took laxatives once a day for four days to insure I went at least once. I lost the weight I needed to.

    48 Hours Post Op

Finally got to take a shower a little while ago. Removed the 2 bandages but not steri strips. Didn't poop the day before surgery and did so this morning. Took a lot of pressure off. Sorry if this is TMI. Upper abdomen is still very swollen and full of air but I have been walking my tail off. Incisions are very sore but I have to say all things considered, I am doing pretty well. The hardest thing for me is getting in and out of the recliner.
  3. I realized this weekend something I think I should have realized long ago: I have this addictive behavior problem. I realized this after visiting my boyfriend in Canada this last weekend. I realized (and this is probably TMI) that I have a sexual addiction problem. I am honestly going to go through a 12-step program to help me get over this. I can't be with him any more. I throw my values to the wind when I'm with him. I'm realizing also that the addictive behavior spreads to all aspects of my life: food, sex, music (I used to practice about 6 hours a day)... everything. I wonder if, when starting off this whole lap banding experience, I should have started with a 12-step program. I think many of us have addictive behaviors and use food as an outlet. I have come to realize that the emotional element is stronger than the band, in many ways. In my opinion we need to get some sort of training on overcoming our emotional addictions to food. Get to the source of the problem!
  4. Ok, I am having THE most awful pain when I sit down, and think it is where my once very padded behind has gone, and left the bones at the bottom of my spine exposed (I am not complaining). My problem is I cant sit comfortably for long enough to even watch a tv show without having pain, so I have to sit in the most bizzarre positions! Please tell me its not only me (top tips on getting comfy also warmly welcomed)
  5. So I understand that constipation is a side effect of wls but I wasn't prepared for this! I went from going 2-3 times a day (bad dieting) to not even remembering the last time I went lol. Well tonight was horrible! My stomach hurt so bad from not going I started to feel nauseous and had cramps in my back.. I took some stool softeners and to no avail. Eventually I broke down and gave myself a suppository and man the relief! lol.. Ok I'm sorry I put all my business out there and had a TMI moment but don't say I didn't warn you. For those who empathize, is there something magical out there I should know about to relieve that situation??? And how long does this last for?

    What to expect

Well this is probably not the answer you are looking for but to be absolutely honest everyone is soooooo very different. Some people seem to just sail right through with little to no problems, some have minimal problems and others like myself experienced a few problems post op. None of this is meant to scare you but I wish I would have known. I was allergic to the pain med they gave me I the hospital, I had severe itching and they had to give me benedryl. With all of the IV antibiotics they gave me I developed a yeast infection. That wasn't fun either. I did not experience the gas pains, I did not have a drain, once they discontinued the pain pump it was difficult to take my meds crushed up. Yucky! The liquid pain med they have me gave me migraines and all I could take to help was children's chewable Tylenol. I had trouble getting down enough fluids and protein and still struggle from time to time. I had my surgery (sleeve) on August 25th. Things are getting better day by day some days being better than others. Oh BTW four days after surgery I weighed myself and I had gained 6 pounds, not being warned about the IV fluid weight I was devastated. I vowed to stay off the scale. Bowel movements can be tricky and I usually only go once a week now. (Tmi). On the upside, it's over and I am trudging forward. I have to go back to work on Monday. I am still very very tired. So all in all all you can do is hope for the best. I have also read that some people have nausea and a stomach cramping when drinking their protein shakes or eater but I never had that. I am back at the YMCA walking 4 miles a day. Not quite where I used to be before surgery but day by day I am hoping to get there! Good luck on your journey!

    Yasmin Contraception Pills

Have you considered Mirena? That has worked wonders for me. Before the Mirena I had an extremely heavy flow( I know, TMI) and always had to wear a super huge pad AND a tampon:cursing:. I would probably change it every 2/3 hours. But now all I have is spotting when my period comes around , Its great! Best part, no weight gain and I don't have to worry about taking pills everyday. You should ask your doc about it.

    Upper GI

The first thing they had me do was drink a mouthfull of something like alka-seltzer and told me not to burp the gas. then while standing take a sip of the thick barium hold it in your mouth then swallow when I tell you. did this a few times then while standing on the small platform and my side to the table they reclined the table. once in a laying positon I had to trun over and over to coat the baruim in my esophogus and stomach. now while laying down on my stomach they gave me more barium to swallow this was a bit thinner took more pics. then the table moves again to an upright position more picts. Then I go to work I lasted 1/2 hour I was back and forth to the bathroom 3 times last time I did not quite make it (i know TMI) I went home and stuffed myself with the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apples and toast) to bind my self up. Wish someone warned me!! It seems to go one way or the other. The barium binds some...I was not that lucky!

    my sleeve 2morrow

Oh, that's one of my concerns about surgery day too! I have a super heavy mensus (one of the things I'm praying weight loss will correct eventually too)... so if I am on my period when they operate, they may think someone dropped a scapel... LOL .. not! (TMI?)
  10. Until last week I have had absolutely no problems. After my first fill (3 cc) I had pretty good restriction (at least in my opinion). I had lost 15 pounds in 4 weeks...and was feeling and doing great. Went in for my next appointment and had 1 cc added. The first 4 days were fine. No problems. Then all of a sudden I started having stuck episodes (no PBing though...thank goodness). After each time I felt lots of pain in my chest, gurgling in my throat, and became sweaty. After sitting, walking, taking off my bra (sorry, TMI), waiting...some times I could continue with a little more consumption...sometimes I was not able to eat...I hurt so bad I would not risk trying to put anything else in my mouth. I'm so confused. Sometimes I am great, sometimes not...but I never had any issues before my second fill. Do I need an unfill? Is it possible I hit my sweet spot with my very first fill and my second was too much? I'm so confused... Help!!!

    Taking meds after banding

Hi -- I had a fill last tuesday (11/6). I wasn't have any trouble. I was feeling a really good amount of restriction but nothing troublesome. Probably a little TMI but I started my period 2 days ago and ever since then I am having trouble swallowing my pills. They are tiny tiny pills. I have never had trouble before. At first I thought I drank too much Water with them. Tonight I tried just a sip and i am still having trouble. It is a strange burning in my throat. I get a little slimy nothing major and my stomach knots up and I get waves of pressure in my throat. Does anyone else get this? What helps? What am I doing wrong??

    Back Hurting

Hmm...maybe you need a little cleansing of the pipes...just throwing it out there. I have back pain at times that seems to coincide with a # 2 (sorry for the TMI).

    Pain management without NSAIDs

I'm sorry to hear about your back and knee pain woo woo! I hope it lets up! I decided to not take the tramodal because of the possibility of constipation after surgery. I know my ability to take in my 64 oz of fluid orally will be difficult fresh post and I will be provided pain meds during my stay at the hospital. But, the type of pain medication depends on my surgeon. Which I'm sure will be narcotics and those as well can cause constipation. I'm afraid of complications and don't want to leave anything to chance. They told us in our pre op class people can go a week or more with no BM. That opened my eyes. I don't want to be uncomfortable with constipation on top of a fresh surgery. Straining is not good. I know this is TMI but those medications cause that now imagine when im struggling to just stay hydrated. Not good. So I'm just pacing myself with last minute chores and taking breaks to stretch and rest my back. It's so debilitating and frustrating not being able to do things everyone else doesn't think twice about.
  14. I am 6 days post-op. This morning I had my first bowel movement and since then haven't been off the toilet. Every sip I take is coming right back out. I'm scared of getting dehydrated! It's hard enough to get enough liquids without the constant diarrhea. Please help!
  15. Hello everyone, Yes, I'm officially one of the Banded now. I had my surgery yesterday on the 27th. Everything went very well. I had a bit of the left shouler pain. I found having my husband give it a good rub with the arthritis cream I use for my knees helped a lot. I also had some pain pills too. Today, I'm feeling fine. I have a bit of bloating in my stomache and have been using the gas x strips. I've definitely been passing some of the gas, so no problem there.....ooops TMI. I couldn't have asked for a more attentive and professional medical staff. I was treated like a queen from the time I entered the clinic. I had my own nurse with me from start to discharge and my Dr. and anesthesiologist were just wonderful. They both described in detail what would be happening to me in the OR and afterwards. I had my surgery at 9:30 and was on my way home by 1:30pm. The doctor called me at 8pm and then again this morning to see how I was doing. He said he'll be giving me a call on Monday too. And the I'll see him in two weeks for an incision checkup. I'm on Clear liquids for the first 3 days and then I can have full liquids for a week, including my Protein drink. He likes to take introduction back to food slowly. He says he wants abit of scar tissue to form around the stoma before taking any kind of a chance with food getting stuck or what not.He said if I follow just what he tells me to do, I should have no vomiting or discomfort. I also have a dietician who is working with me and she gives lessons over the internet. My first one is August 1st. Just like a classroom with hand out sheets that she has already emailed to me. I couldn't have found a better clinic. I'm very happy with how I've been treated and expect to have a long and lasting relationship with my weight loss group. Tips: drink plenty of Water after surgery, have a pillow to hold against you for your car ride, gas x is a must. I found the most comfortable way to sleep last night was in my recliner as they don't want me laying flat for 3 days. You won't have any trouble with the clear liquids after surgery, as I have zero appetite. Just think , this time next year we will all be so much healthier and look better too.

    Discouraged

@ I'm very fortunate to be able to say that I've never had the experience of dumping, but the fear of getting sick outweighs my desire to have the sugar again, and to be perfectly honest, my cravings for sweet stuff are nowhere near what they used to be. From what I understand, it's the sugar that causes the dumping, not the actual item- dumping can happen from lots of kinds of sugar, not necessarily just candy/cake/whatnot. I've listened to folks who've told me they dump on Pasta, bread, and fruit juices! If you look around the forum here, you'll see all kinds of stories of people's experiences with dumping, & that fear is of anything that has sugar- not one food item specifically. What I have experienced (and I don't know if there's an official name for it) is a stabbing pain right at the base of my breastbone. The best information I could find is that it's caused by food blocking the itty bitty stoma (opening to your new itty bitty stomach pouch). For me, it happens when food is too dry (like meat) or doughy (like breads). It's absolutely horrible, and what's worse is that trying to wash it down with a drink of Water doesn't help at all. Top it off with an inability to throw everything up (Sorry if this is TMI) and it's an overall miserable time for me. But, similar to dumping, I remember every single food that made me feel that way (since I can't seem to group them by nutritional content), and I won't touch it again for a loooong time.

    TMI?

Wasn't quite sure where to put this so I figured The Lounge was as good as any other place. So...I got a silver frame and a watch case for the boyfriend for Christmas. His daughter is getting married in March and I thought a frame would be better than taping a picture to the wall, which is basically what he does now. Suffice to say he was not terribly impressed with the frame when tape is good enough in his opinion. Happily, I also thought a watch case would be nice since he has about ten wristwatches and they're all over the place so I was looking forward to his reaction when I gave him gift number two. What I didn't know was that he has so many watches because they're cheap and rather than replace the batteries, he just replaces the watches. So I basically struck out on the gift ideas. I finally came up with a good idea at bedtime. I made him feel oh so good last night that he's walking funny this morning...LOL. I'm not sure if I can re-gift tonight but I'll try....
  18. My surgeon opts to not remove the gb at the same time. His reasoning is because during the rapid weight loss phase, being in ketosis, taking in extra fat especially from Protein foods the gb actually helps digest these foods completely. Plus, only 1/4 of his patients between VSG, band and RNY need to have their gb removed due to weight changes. I tell you based on my experience. My gb came out 9 months post-op. I've had a hell of a time eating post-op and trying to maintain my weight. food that I ate just 2 months ago no longer work for me. I can eat them, but I'm in the bathroom shortly thereafter. It isn't pleasant, and I since I eat many foods still today that I ate during my losing stage, I would have very limited on what I could have eaten. If I happen to find myself constipated, a nice dollop of Ranch or Thousand Island dressing with about 4 crackers or a small spinach salad lands me in the bathroom for a solid 30 minutes. Constipation cured, butt burn in full effect. Probably TMI, but it's been my experience. There is also a drug called Actigall that some surgeons prescribe. I declined due our livers working overtime during the rapid weight loss phase, I wasn't willing to add another RX to the mix to make my liver work even harder. Plus, there are some liver contraindications with Actigall. For me, the risk of keeping my gb were minimal considering all the factors presented to me.
  19. I was sleeved on Monday the 10th at 10:00 a.m. and everything seems to be on track for my recovery. I did my walking in the hospital and sipped as much water as I could, but still couldn't get much down at all. I was discharged the following day at about 9:00. I've been doing laps at my house, but the pains in my stomach are making it difficult to keep hardly anything down. I was able to get a protein shake down this morning a little broth this afternoon, but between the meds, broth, and shake I can't seem to get hardly any water in. They said I would feel miserable for the first several days, but I "thought" that was only for those who didn't follow orders. I've had a lot of phlem (yes TMI) and coughing to express it feels like daggers in my stomach. I really am questioning whether I did the right thing by having this surgery. I scheduled to go back to work on Monday and am having difficulty in seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I'd love to hear some of you experiences with this in the first few days of post op. As hard as I want to put a big smile on right now and provide encouragement to others I am in the middle of my own pitty party. Thank you for any advice you can give.

    I so scared ti eat!

I had my surgery 6/10 and still cannot eat. I know within minutes if it is going to come back up. The most I can eat is 1-2 TBL. I usually cannot eat at night at all??? I can eat about a half of egg and it is ??? whether it will stay down. I get a terrible feeling and then thick mucus comes up (TMI). I do a little better if I don't drink thirty minutes before I eat and wait 45 minutes after I eat. I have to take little bity bites and chew chew chew! Wait between bites. Tried watermelon last night and I knew immediately that I had messed up with the first bite. I was able to get a few bites of potato Soup from Scholtzsky's down today at lunch and so far so good!
  21. Definitely buy gas medication!!! I did chewable and mylicon drops. TMI

    Stuck

I actually gained 4 pounds between Oct & Nov check in appts. Amazingly enough from Nov to Dec visit I lost 14 lbs of fat. My body is doing its own thing at this point. The only thing that changed was me adding some fiber ie bran, organic prune juice and organic applesauce. I know it's possibly TMI but constipation happens sometimes with high protein diets. I've added 2 ozs of the above described mixture every 2-3 days and I feel marvelous and no more bloating etc.

    Loose skin chafing

Hello, I am 16 months post op. I have lost and maintained a total weight loss of 145 lbs. I went from 275 to 130. Sorry if this is TMI but I am hoping someone can relate and give me tips. I have loose skin on the back of my butt that hang like curtains! They are chafing badly and feel very scaly and have almost caloussed. I have put cortisone creams And all kinds of lotions. Mostly the area stays dry but that is the main problem. It so dry it stays irritated. Any pointer would be great!
  24. I had trouble with protein intake and liquid intake. After I started my soft solids I found out real quick what could happen if I drank too much within that 30 minute time frame. Everything came back up. Sorry if tmi. The drinking before is not as big of a concern but they want you to eat your calories and not drink them. If you drink too much before a meal then you won't eat as much. Good luck to you.
  25. thank you again everyone!!!! im actually pretty happy right now.. i know this might be TMI, but lol aunt flow is here and thankfully i haven't gained any weight... yet... lol, im not losin either, but ill take that over a gain! im just sittin at 199.5 today a whole .01 loss from yesterday.. but its still early on.. but today i start tough mudder training so im hoping that will help keep the lbs at bay.
