    Pre op diet

When I got home from the hospital the whole first week it showed me having gained 7 lbs. but then I lost 17 lbs from my pre surgery weight. And then I had a 3 week stall.

    Need advice

Just wanted to stop in and say that this seems common at this stage to slow down. Last month was 10 lbs with a big 3 week stall in the middle- so 1 week of great loss followed by 3 week stall and then another half a week of great loss. Then, I thought I blew past it as I quickly dropped 8 more lbs and was expecting to be on track for 10 lbs in 2 weeks, then this last week @$&*)BLAM!@)#! I hit a wall and woke up 3 lbs heavier than the day before and have stuck there again this week. I am not saying this to vent really--just that its a common theme regarless of the level of exercise. I am up to 4 miles on my running every other day and I am adding in weights a couple of times a week too. I mention this to say that its not just the level of exercise that plays a part. The body can only take so much weight loss it seems and then it has to adjust. I guess I am fortunate that even with the adjustments I was able to drop the 10lbs last month--I hope to at least get in 10 this month too.
  4. Hi Guys, I am 4 weeks post op and I have been at a 3 week stall. I AM JUST Soooooooo Over it !!! However, I did make an appointment with my nutritionist last week and she did tell me about the 3 week stall. No joke I was in tears in her office. I was thinking, I stalled at ONE WEEK. She adjusted my diet slightly an told me I should just about be at the end of it. As of today... I'm not. She told me I was doing everything right and to just keep it up and she "promised" me I would see the weight falling off soon. I don't. All I can truly vouch for is that people have told me they can see a difference. I would say they were just trying to lift my spirits and my bottom lip....BUT.... I have gone down 3 pants sizes post surgery. How I DON'T KNOW. The scale not only says that I'm in a stall, but I put on two pounds. ( Big Sigh ) . Sorry guys ( the men ).... What I was going to say is that I may have som PMS Water weight going on as well. All I know is that I've always been told the scale doesn't lie. I lost like crazy week one. My nutritionist told me that was Fluid and to keep strong and come to the support group. I was too depressed to go to the support group. Now how crazy is THAT. Yes, I really do know better. Oh well, long story cutting short. It is VERY, VERY depressing but I am just going to go with the flow like I'm told because as of now theirs not a thing more I can do. It will happen. (Another Sigh) I really hope so.

    November sleevers in Mexico?

I definitely feel a hibernation coming on! I saw SO many posts about people freaking out about the "dreaded 3 week stall" so I figured I would save myself the insanity and just skip it all together. I'm guaranteed a loss Dec 1 and I won't know how long my stall has been. :-) I'm trying not to be a slave to the scale, @@Becca R.

    Any March Sleevers?

Hey everyone! I am now 15 days post op. Everything is going great with me! Im still not getting in all the protein but that's my new goal for this week! Im doing "Ok" getting in water. Not quite as much as I need but close. Starting working out yesterday (brisk uphill walk, was sweating bad and couldn't breathe after quarter of a mile, so I stopped but I know each day will get easier and I will be able to go further in a shorter time). I've lost 16 pounds as of yesterday, that's more than a pound a day I hope since im losing kind of slowly I wont hit that 3 week stall this week, esp since im going to up my protein and my workouts. A note to sleeves who haven't found out yet...when they say eat slow they mean eat SLOOOOW. I had some chicken for lunch, half a grilled finger. It went down fine w no probs. I decided to eat some more for supper but evidently I ate too fast. Had TERRIBLE pains in my chest and about 15 mins later threw up some white froth. Known as "frothing" or "sliming". It was gross and painful. So please, eat slower than slow and it can be avoided.

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

I am super frustrated! I have been gaining and losing the same 3 pounds for over 2 weeks! This week will make 3 weeks, so I am hoping to see a drop by the end of the week. I guess this is the 3 week stall everyone talks about - I say it is BS!!! UGH!!!!! Going to try something different this week and go back to having 2 protein shakes a day and a light dinner. Also going to try and up my fluid intake, even though I don't see how that is possible since I am drinking water every second of the day! GRRRRRRRRRRRR

    stalled

Do a search on here for "stall ". Your question has been answered a hundred times. There is actually a whole forum for this... "Don't Sweat the Stall Stuff" you should post this there and stay off your scale. You are in the infamous 3 week stall and the best way to end it is to stay off the scale. In the meantime, follow your doctor's plan and stay off the scale. Get in all your protein and water and stay off the scale!
  9. I'm right there with you. I was sleeved on 12/28. I lost 26 pounds during the 2 weeks before and after surgery, but now I've regained a pound. I keep hearing about the infamous "3 week stall." I'm really hoping that's what's going on with both of us, though I don't have the meds to deal with. That must be frustrating. But hang in there! I'm sure our scales will start moving in the right direction soon!
  10. Wow that is huge progress!! 26 pounds post op is a lot! My dates and weights are similar but I'm only down 16 post op so far and I think I've just hit the 3 week stall.... It's so hard to eat "protein first" in this purée stage when there are hardly any protein options at this point. My carb grams each day are higher than I want them to be in the long run (50-60gs) but there just isn't much protein to eat besides the shakes. I still drink two shakes a day but really want to chew for the rest of my intake. Anyway, I hope I'm not stalling myself but having too many carbs. Keeping my daily calories under 700, usually closer to 500. It's all a head game isn't it!!!!
  11. I got the Mirena also. I got it a week to my surgery. I have to say that I'm still debating on whether to keep it or switch to a copper IUD, since the Mirena has hormones in them. The reason I say this is because on July 3rd (last day of my period) it was inserted at my obgyn's office. By July 14th, 4 days after my surgery and 11days after the last day of my cycle I got my period AGAIN! What was different this time was that it lasted a good 2.5weeks! I called my surgeon and as suspected he said it has nothing to do with my VSG surgery. Then I called my Obgyn and sure enough the said it was normal. I was so glad when it was over. Fastward to 2 days ago I started to have tender and sore breast almost like when I was pregnant. Well that scared the crap out of me and I got a home pregnancy test yesterday, thankfully it showed up negative. I've since then searched online and found that this is also common with the Mirena. And will likely go away but not sure how long. I'm pretty sure all this has to do with the hormones. Not to mention that from the second week after my surgery I've lost about a pound a week. Now this maybe the normal 3-week stall but I'm thinking the Mirena might have something to do with it. just my two cents.

Easter Sunday - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???

Grrrrrrrr, dang, I don't think I am going to make it!!! I just am finally breaking an almost 3 week stall () but, dont think I can possibly drop these 4+ pounds by Sunday . I love this challenge tho and will certainly sign up for the 4th of July one! AND I will keep working hard to get to my Easter goal - I will take every ounce I can get! On a better note...every size 14 has been removed from my closet and now it is filled with 12's and 10's! Today I am in a fashion show for work - Spring and Summer wear ( business casual appropriate). Both of my outfits are from the Limited - size 12 and 10's! I will try to get some pictures so I can post my modeling debut! Look out Americas Next Top Middle Aged Model Search - here I come! 14. So I know I shouldn't be checking my weight everyday but I can't help it! Just the past few days my scale is showing me a higher number then what I was after I ended stage 1 liquid diet (Monday). Is this like the 3 week stall but earlier? Also, I'm always hungry...been drinking Water and etc. and having my Protein shakes as well. I take a PPI as well...what gives? Will my sleeve be more restricting when I move to the pureed/mashed stage? Sorry for all the questions...just bumming out a bit here b/c I've also had to adjust my insulin a lot and wondering if that's the culprit

13 days in and not loosing

Thanks so much for your advise. I hear you but unfortunately I'm only up to day 13 and haven't lost for a week - which is still a way from the dreaded 3 week stall. Anyway- I'll keep on keeping on. ????????
  16. How did you get past it? I know part of my issue is protein intake. I can't eat much at a time so it's hard to get it all in. I also am running out of ideas for breakfast. I just started some solids this week (fish, tuna, canned chicken, etc). I am not complaining at all...I am down 20 pounds which is amazing but I want to make sure I am doing everything I can to lose and still follow the plan! I didn't have the surgery just to find ways to cheat so any suggestions on the right way to kick start the weight loss again?

Dumping Syndrome is "a good thing"!

Yes I revised. I had to get rid of the band and then I had the RNY. This occurred on August 25th. I seem to have hit the 3 week stall however and hope that the weight starts moving again. :bored:

    what are you eating?

You are likely in the dreaded 3 week stall. Very common. Don't panic. Just keep sticking to the program and the pounds will add up eventually.

    October List of Surgery's

I am still on a stall! It's driving crazy. I've been walking but I've been slacking on my fluids and protein. I've also had mashed potatoes on thanksgiving (like 2 bites) and bites of cranberry bread over the holidays. The holidays are horrible. I'm so easily tempted. This can't be the reason I'm in a 3 week stall!
  20. I was sleeved 4/22 and lost 15 lbs in the first two weeks, which I was thrilled with. Now I've been stuck at the same weight for the last week straight. I walk daily, drink ~7 cups of liquid a day, get 60-75 g of protein, and am sitting around 1000 calories usually. I know this is normal and my body is playing catch up and everything. Just wondering everyone else's experiences with this. Anyway for me to help that scale move? Or about when did it start moving for you again?

Kristen's Journey From Pre-Op and Beyond

So surgery was Monday, November 3. I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this journey. There were a few hiccups along the way but nothing that ever made me regret my decision. When we first arrived at the airport I called Victor but he said he was going back to TJ and would send another driver. Samuel picked us up and took us on a tour of San Diego while waiting for two more people. Once we got to the Marriott we were checked in and got to our room. We waited a bit but never met a patient advocate. This made me nervous since I had no idea what time to be ready in the morning. I couldn't call from my hotel room because I didn't have the local number. I ended up texting Victor who got in touch with Sandra. She showed up within 15 minutes and explained somehow I was put on the wrong list. This made me a little nervous but was happy at least they found me and I was still scheduled for the next day. The Marriott was wonderful in every way. They are very attentive and helped with any request we had. Their broth hit the spot! At the hospital the only issue I had was waiting over six hours for surgery. After waiting six hours I had a little nervous breakdown because I realized it was dark outside and I thought the doctor would be tired when he operated on me. I also thought maybe because I was on the wrong list at the hotel that he was overbooked and overworked and I didn't want to be the last one to be operated on. I'm sure the lack of food for 3 days contributed to that but they finally took me to the OR and gave me medicines to relax. They explained that they save the easiest for last and I was the only one that day who wasn't some type of revision and I had no other co-morbidities. After I met with Dr. Lopez and gauged his alertness I felt more confident. I feel bad for the girls in the recovery room. I can only remember dry heaving, moaning and fighting with the oxygen mask constantly. I think they had to give me lots of drugs to calm me down. My recovery went better than expected. I did have some gas pain in my chest but I worked on walking and breathing deeply each day and it has gotten better. I got what feels like a bubble stuck in my chest when I would drink despite taking small sips but this only lasted about five or six days. I did have diarrhea for 7 days though. That was rough but it helped get a lot of gas out! My MIL got me some kind of herbal tea that helps relieve gas and it was magical. I had a fever for a few days post op. I think two of my incisions were very slightly infected but I showered every day and my MIL would clean them with alcohol, put antibiotic ointment and new bandages. They look pretty good now. Day 6 post op was the magical day I finally gained my independence and didn't have to rely on someone to help me out of bed or dry me after a shower. I have decided to take part in "No Weigh November" because I would like to avoid the dreaded 3 week stall so I will not be weighing until December 1st.

    Almost 3 weeks post op

Congrats on your success. Just a heads-up. When you hit the 3 week stall, don't let it get you down. Just hang in there, the weight will start falling again.
  23. I don't know how anyone could be overweight when they just need to get on a scale. We all know mental and emotional distress cannot be detrimental in any way. I mean if you have a 3 week stall, you are just as happy as a 10lb loss. Nobody ever has dove head first into a pint of ice cream, crying themselves to sleep thinking no matter what you do, you will always be fat. I mean, if some articles say it, you must do it. I guess I should tell everyone on keto that they can never lose weight eating all that fat. Research has shown low calorie is the only way. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

I've hit that 3 week stall too. Just have to push through it. I'm working on meeting my water goals and moving more.
  25. You may be going through the 3 week stall as most of us have.
