  1. There is a typical 3 week stall. Some may have it sooner, some later. 20-30 pounds the first month is average. We still have 3 weeks in the first month! So its likely to stop here and there. Here is some chemistry on that which may help after fat cells had been emptied of stored triglyceride, they would temporarily refill with water (glycerol attracts water, which might be part of the mechanism). Fat cells filled with fat take up more space than fat cells filled with water, so you may see inches go. Then, after some time frame, the water would get dropped, the fat cells would shrink down. That is, the fat was emptied and burned off days or weeks ago but until the water is dropped, the scale didn't change. Mine isn't showing much of a loss because of TOM. Its *brutal* today. Definatly more painful than normal. no fun. But I'm guessing in 3-4 days I should see a whoosh.

    Almost 3 weeks post op

Congrats on your success. Just a heads-up. When you hit the 3 week stall, don't let it get you down. Just hang in there, the weight will start falling again.
  3. SW 204 Today I'm 179 I'm a little disappointed and I had a 3 week stall. Sometimes I can't help myself to think this is not going to work for me because I'm not losing a lot of weight.
  4. My surgery was February 19 2014 and I have been at a 3 week stall, before that always losing. How do you break a stall?
  5. How do I get over a 3 week stall? How long will I lose my hair? I have cut it short but it is getting very thin? Help?? I was sleeved 2/19/2014
  6. So, I've officially been banded 4 weeks! I'm down 32 pounds and feeling great. I'm eating smaller portions, Protein first, then veggies, never room for starches. Lifting weights 4-5x a week, cardio 2-3x a week. I can't stress how happy I am about the decision I made. Not only with wls in general, but deciding on the band. I have my first fill next wednesday, and I'm hoping if I can get close to my morning band, where I'm tight, but can still eat solid foods, I'd be in my green zone. I have trouble staying full for over an hour or two after lunch and dinner, but Breakfast keeps me full for 3-4 hours. I got a little caught up in some emotions and my 3 week stall, but I looked in the mirror this morning, and I wasn't disgusted at what I saw. At 303 I felt like I was busting at the seams, like if I gained one more pound, I'd pop like a balloon. I couldnt even bend over to tie my shoes. I didn't have any co-morbities, but at 26, my life was miserable, and it took a toll on my relationship because I didn't understand how my fiance could even stand the sight of me, because I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror. Now, pants and already starting to fall off and belts are getting moved more than one hole tighter. Workouts are getting easier, and taking the stairs is no big deal now, unless its the day after leg day . Im SO happy I found this site. I've learned so much from other peoples experiences!

4 weeks post op & scale isn't decreasing

I don't think you are off track. You are going through the dreaded 3 week stall. Losing 13 lbs a week for 2 weeks may have sent your body into starvation mode. Now it has to figure out this new lifestyle of yours. Once it figures out that you're not really starving, it will stop holding onto every calorie. The weight will start coming off if you just stick to your eating and exercise plan. It was a worrisome problem I had to learn to live with. I've gone through 8 or 9 stalls and it took a long time to learn that - as long as I kept doing what was working, it would start working again. The worst thing I could do was to start fiddling with my diet plan.
  8. After a 3 week stall finally 4 lbs dropped overnight.

  9. Hi guys. How is everyone going? It has been almost a year since the last post so I don't even know if anyone will reply lol I am Liz. I had sleeve surgery in August 2013. I actually stopped loosing weight at 3 weeks post op. I thought it was the normal 3 week stall but nope. Just stopped dead. Had a CT scan at 3 months post op that came back saying my stomach was normal sized. Would hate to think the size of it before sleeve surgery then lol. Anyway, I was revised to bypass on 3rd March this year and going ok but extremely slow weight loss and my anti depressants have stopped working grr. OK will wait to see if there is any replies

    Im an emotional wreck. Help!

I'm 11 weeks post op (today). I started at 325. I lost 28 preop and had many stalls along the way, even preop. I have lost a total of 65 since preop, so 37 since surgery. You are probably having the beginning of your first stall. This is totally normal and won't last. It's pure mental anguish going through it. DONT GET SIDETRACKED because the scale isn't moving. It will. Your body is clinging to every morsel since the shock of surgery and weight loss. Search for threads on the 3 weeks stall. You'll find lots of them. Most go through it. Trust me, stay on track and it will move again. You'll have many more stalls but you will do fine. I 100% identify with your anxiety. I've been there, and am still there some days. There is a lot of mental work that goes into this. I've been relatively successful to lose 37 pounds in 11 weeks but my negative thoughts say it should be more!!!!! I have to stay on here daily and beef up my confidence and faith. You are right where youre suppose to be. Keep trying all the things you're suppose to be trying, they will get easier. Those weeks before puréed/softs are tough to endure. Keep reading. Push fluids and protein. The fatigue last several more weeks but gets better about week 8. Hang in there!!! You got this!!

    Permanent Stall

I didn't think about working out and gaining weight. I have tried hard to make it a daily regime and keep moving. My wife is completely taken back by all of this. To be honest the first few weeks after the surgery when It was stall after stall. She kept saying it's just a fluke don't worry it'll start coming off. Then as the weeks kept going by she just couldn't understand why I wasn't losing. My first stall was 3 weeks, then I lost -4 and then 3 weeks went by and I lost another -5 and then 8 weeks and -6lbs. Now we are back in a 3 week stall. She is very heartbroken for me, she tries so hard to help and keep me going. However no matter how many times we change things no matter how many dr's or nutritionist give us new "changes in my diet" they never work and I stall.
  14. I wish everyone would delete the word S T A L L from their life. We all had or will have WLS, and the goal here should be LIVING and loving life, and not the scale and S T A L L. You can see the word stall every single day here, 2 day stall, 4 day stall, 2 week stall, 3 week stall, and I promise there is a long term solution to this and it is patience and following the guidelines of your surgeon and dietician. There is no magic. It is tried and true. I am so delighted with the results of the sleeve, I could die from pure happiness, despite a few problems. Hang in there everyone, and get outdoors. walk, plant flowers, hug your children, and be soooooo happy!!!

For the love of sweet Jesus.....

Thank you Mdm R.! I appreciate your ability to write about the frustrations we all feel from time to time. I have to say the most maddening posts for me are the ones who, when you try to direct them to an existing post that have tons of feedback on their topic, say "I don't wanna look at previous threads! - I want people to respond to me!" Because that tells me they aren't here to learn, they are only looking for an ego stroke! I hope that Newbies to do read this post of Mdm R's, because atleast if they want to post a 3 week stall post, they might preface it with a "I can see that 3 weeks stalls are common... But I would love to hear from those of you who have experienced it, I just need to hear that this too shall pass" (Note to self: save this post for myself for about July 3rd) I have said it before and I say it again Mdm R for Guv-ner!

Hey lovely ladies! Ok so I'm so naughty I had a very little bit of skinny girl Cosmo mix tonight two sips and I was tipsy but omg I have been abused today! So I asked on two Facebook "support" groups how long people waited until they had a drink and hoe far out I was and that I was considering a drink not bottles just one teeny weeny drink and this one chick told me off!!! But before that I called the emergency line at lap surgery and then Mchenry called me back and he went off tap at me had me in tears! I get that it's for energencies and mine was a general question but they didn't tell me when I was discharged if I could or could not drink! So then hubby calls him back and let's him have it! Then hr apologised for bring such an ass. I said to him they never told me and that on discharge I was allowed to call and ask in fact they preferred if I called and asked instead of doing things that might damage me so aren't I better off calling before I make a mistake instead of u telling me to figure it out on Monday! Like wtf!!!!! Nasty!!!! I get it's for life threatening things but seriously to be yelled at I kid u not he yelled at me my jaw dropped!!!! Seriously I'm so dissppointed i know maybe it was trivial but I found out through MY OWN RESEARCH later of course that it can give u an ulcer and some people say wait 6 weeks some say 6 months some say 1 year like how am I supposed to know! Anyway he said that a few sips is ok after we had a 15 minute arguement he could have savec himself and me a lot of heartache if he just answered the question. I now feel like absolute crap that he spoke to me like that and then I got attacked on FB too seriously! Btw the drink I had was amazing u drank about 100ml over like 3 hours or something so it's ok I think! But I don't know.... I'm so glad I have u guys I can vent to I'm sorry for going on do much but thank u for listening!!!! So today I hit 119.6 kg on my scale when I'm naked so happy days!!! I'm coming up to this 3 week stall so I think it's time to work out on the cross trainer oh and I haven't walked in 2 days I went back to work today but I'm at a desk job and sitting for a long time made me sore so might have to take some painkillers to work on Monday!!!! On the number 2 I think I should be more diligent with my fibre right now I feel a bit lost... Chez have u started pre opp? How are u feeling?
  18. Hi there. I had my surgery a few days before you and am in the same boat! Apparently a lot of people stall at around 3 weeks out. I did a search on the forum and found MANY threads discussing the dreaded 3 week stall. It was comforting to me to read those posts and see that I am far from the only one experiencing it! We will get through this!

For the love of sweet Jesus.....

I think the reason people post the same question over and over is they want to express their feelings/frustrations/joys and want a personalized response. I'm guilty of that myself--I posted something about a 3 week stall yesterday. I did search beforehand, and voraciously read a good number of threads about stalls. I didn't feel that it was appropriate to just add my post as a reply to someone else's prior post.
  20. Hi everyone. This Sunday will make 3 weeks for me and for the past week or so I have been at the same weight. I briefly saw a 2 lb drop but that was a flash in the pan - maybe I was dehydrated that am…... Do you all stall this early out? How do you deal with it? Thanks BP family!
  21. I'm not real worried. And I guess I should not complain because I did not have a 3 week stall. Maybe this is it, regardless, I know if I continue my healthy habits I will continue to progress towards better health. I try to weigh myself twice a week. I will weigh again on Friday and I bet I'm back from where I started.
  22. Hey, Im only 2 1/2 weeks out and 28 lbs down and I think I have hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I've noticed a few days with a half a pound gain in the morning that was gone by the end of the day. I did always have Water retention issues so I also assumed it was that. I hope you get your answers. Good luck!

Ladies: How much loss 1st week?

The 3 week stall actually refers to a stall that many of us have around 3 weeks post surgery. If you search it under forums you will find probably dozens of posts about it. I weigh every day but didn't weigh from my approval date until my first post-op appointment, so I really don't know what the loss was the first couple of weeks.

Ladies: How much loss 1st week?

No the 3 week stall means stuck for 3 weeks! Not on stuck on week 3. Its 3 weeks of not losing weight.
