  1. I got the labband in 2007. Had had some success with it, lost and have kept of right at 60 lbs. I have struggled with the usual problems that come with the band, heartburn, acid reflux etc. Well it was determined about three weeks ago that my band has slipped. The Doc recommended removal and revision to RNY. It request was submitted to BCBS for approval. Received a copy of the letter, and they have approved the removal but not the revision. I do not meet the criteria now. I have worked hard to losse this weight and try to keep it off, and I know without the band or something I will gain all of the weight back. I have been unfilled and it is already starting to happen. My lapban surgery was with a diffrent insurance not BCBS so it would be my first WLS with them. The criteria says that I have the diagnosis of morbid obesity for a period of 2 years prior to sugery, duh, I had the band and got my weight down; My bmi is now 33, so still suffer from obesity but not morbid obesity with a comorbidity I no longer have a problem with blood pressure like I did before I am no longer borderline diabetic I still need to loose about 50 lbs Has anyone else had this problem and how do you fight it? Thanks, Laura
  2. I had my first adjustment today. It went a lot quicker than I expected. I wasn't completely numbed when the nurse stuck the big needle in, but I was ok once she started adjusting the needle and my port to get it in. I am excited to see what this adjustment will do to my eating. I can't believe it's been 5 weeks since my surgery! My workout. Let me start out by saying that I HATE the heat, so it's crazy that I even went. I started going to Bikram yoga and I LOVE it. I am planning to go at least 3 times a week. I'm so glad I found something low impact that is still challenging and will give me a good workout. Check out my blog @ http://adventuresinlapbandland.blogspot.com/ I will be posting weekly weight updates and monthly measurements. I will also post anything fun or exciting that happens.
  3. well... I'm actually in the very first stages of deciding whether i'm going to do this. I'm not nervous at all, which is odd i think considering what i'm thinking about doing. i hate doing these introductions I never know what to write lol. I hate throwing up, so that's really and honestly my only issue with the whole thing. i'm 21, 22 in a few weeks actually. I've always been pretty heavy, my doctor says "i carry it well." w/e that's supposed to mean... i guess it means that it's spread out evenly lol i'll go with that. i'm about 5'7 and come in about 267. I checked my BMI in a few places and i got anywhere from 40 -41.5. *shrug* idk what made the difference. i've always been pretty active, even now I still lift weights at work (I dispatch for police and fire) with my officers, I even go out and do the yearly physical with them I get my tail handed to me in places where long distance running is involved but hey they're proud b/c i try. anyway, it's getting to the point where my joints are really starting to hurt and every once in a week or so I get little chest pains, they're nothing to hoorah over, just like... little twinges that come and then they're gone. nothing makes them come or go... they've got a mind of their own. anyway, i'll stop rambling... any questions fire away Liz

    I'm new too!

Hi Kat! (Waves) Mexico has some wonderful doctors, ask around and I'm sure many will help you. The best way I know of the lose weight is to increase Protein and decrease carbs.

  6. Hey everyone! My name is Kat. I am saving my $$$ as we speak to get my band in March. Any input you can give me would be greatly appreciated! I do have a few questions though... I am getting my band in Mexico. Is there anyone out there who was banded there? What was your experience? Who was your Doc? I can't get my surgery until March but want to lose weight now before hand. Can anyone give me some tips on how to get down when you're an emotional/compulsive over eater? Has anyone tried OA? :hungry: Kat:faint:

Now im in the waiting game.

My insurance does not seem to have a pre-wieght loss requirement. Do the docs have it anyway? I am just finishing with labs and no one has said anything about looking weight. After my blood test I should be good to go, or maybe not ...

Well I got a called Tuesday July 22 to tell me that it is approve my pre-op is schedule for July 30 and my surgery date is August 11. I have been waiting for this day it kinda a bitter sweet I'm excited and nervous at the same time. All I can say is Wow.

    Approved and pre op diet

It was the best decision I have made in a very long time. I started the process 5 years ago and then chickened out. This time I had done a lot of research and I decided to go for it. My hospital stay I experienced hardly no pain at all. So I'm so happy with my weight loss I have lost 70 lbs since February 26 2015. I wish you lots of luck with your journey and a quick recovery.

6 month diet program - Anthem

I have Anthem BCBS, too. I have been approved for surgery and slso had the 6 month physician supervised diet program. One month I gained like 10 lbs and lost it the following month. I still got approved, so don't worry, but don't gain 5 lbs every month!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

  17. Hi there, My name is Denise and I'm on the road to be banded. Our HMO only does the banding in groups and they just did it so I'll be slotted in for Feb 2007! I have some questions and dont know if this is the right bb, I'll pose them and then if it's not the right place maybe someone can re-direct me and I can repost there. Before I ask I'd like to say how thankful I am that I found this site and that I can have the support of those who have been there. My situation is, BMI is about 37 but I have apnea (moderate) and high BP and pre diabetes and a horrible history of cancer on mom's side. My doc thought that going from about 193 (goal pre op weight) down to about 170 would be considered success. Am I delusional to think that that is NOT much to lose? My goal would be to have a mini and a main goal. Mini goal would be to get to 150 and then main goal to between 135 and 140. I am only 5'4 (just under actually) and 135 is still considered to be high in weight. Is it unreasonable to think I could get to my personal main goal? I know a LOT depends on me and how I do things but thought I'd like your thoughts too. Thanks so much, Denise
  18. I have a few questions for those who have gone through this or are going through this. First one is, why did you choose the sleeve or bypass over the other? I was thinking originally of getting the sleeve done, as dumping syndrome scares me as does the thought of them rerouting my intestines. That being said, I do sometimes get bad heartburn, (not enough where I need to take any medication or anything, but enough to be annoying) and I'm worried about GERD afterwards, and I have heard that, while both are effective, the Bypass has slightly better results so far. So just wondering what people's thoughts were on it. I'm 28 years old, mother of a one year old and my husband is super supportive about anything. my CW is 344 at 5'8.5'' Figured I'd get some last minute advice before I talk to the surgeon and see what his thoughts were as well. I don't have any major complications, I did have an Arrhythmia two years ago but after quitting my insane job, it's gone. VERY mild sleep apnea. The Dr's office says normally our insurance requires 6months of recorded weight loss attempts but since my BMI is over 50, it will probably be like 3 months. (I'm hoping that's the latest, as we had wanted to plan on trying for baby #2 next August-ish, and I know they like you to be 18 months out beforehand, and we have a wedding that my husband will be best man of Early June.) we have our first meeting with the weight loss center's doctor (not our surgeon, but our surgeon recommended this) and dietician tomorrow.) The last question is, I'm going to my first consultation/dietician class tomorrow morning, are there any questions you would have liked to have asked early on of your first consultations? Thanks in advance!
  19. Hi everyone, Hope that the holidays are joyous. I need some help getting back on track. I had gastric sleeve in 2015 and lost over 100 pounds. I started excercising, was doing really well until this year. I ended up having some serious joint pain issues and started on prednisone. That med worked wonders for reducing the inflammation in my joints BUT it made me feel as hungry as a pregnant cow....and I craved sweets. I ate. This coupled with getting married and now going through a divorce...has has me stress eating. My lowest weight was 168 and now I am at 205. I started at 300. I refuse to gain anymore weight back. This has been the HARDEST time in my life to loose this extra weight. Anyone over 4 years out have any tips for when hunger returns? After year four from getting sleeved my hunger just all of a sudden returned. And then the medication didn't help. Also going through the marital stress was another factor. I've REcommitted myself to getting back on track. I even went to the weight loss doctor for help with food cravings. Y'all tell me what works for you and help me with your tips. Thanks

    Weight Loss

weight loss is rarely linear. It'll go up and down - or like many of us, you'll lose it in a "stair step" pattern (lose a few lbs, stall for a week or two, lose a few more lbs, rinse and repeat). As long as the overall trend is down, you're good. Fluctuations are very normal - but if those are messing with your head, then just weigh yourself once a week so you're seeing trends rather than day-to-day fluctuations.

    Psych evaluation questions

The psych eval is easy. They just want to be sure you understand what the surgery entails, have a support system, etc. Mine asked questions about my weight history, what I have tried before to lose, etc. Sent from my Nexus 6P using the BariatricPal App
  22. I just had my 2nd fill yesterday, I was Fluid yesterday, mushies for 2 days, I have heard every response there is to this, some say they felt restriction, others were too tight, some felt the restriction weeks later, others felt no restriction until their 3, 4 or even 5 fill. Many of them still lost weight, some slowly, some didn't, etc so you are going to have to wait and see what your body does and it reacts. I now have 4cc and I don't feel any tightness, restriction or as some say, the feeling of food going down yet. But I am losing and I am eating the way I should be and feel great. My belief is that if I can lose steadily, have my fills to keep from feeling overwhelming hunger, stay on my food plan portions, and "not" be tight, restricted, throwing up or uncomfortable that is the ideal way to live. I have read post and met one person who has lost over 80 lbs with no fills at all. So you see it is all in your body, how you use the tool, and manage your new life style. Some of us will have to work a little harder at Portion Control, some at regular exercise, some at good choices, etc, I would exercise patience and don't live on your scale. Look for all the victories you will be achieving. Lost inches, better health, a glow on your cheeks, a happier outlook, less meds. New clothes, the power you have gained from taking control of your life. Good luck.
  23. Today I am 4 months banded and I have staled at 38 pounds lost, nothing since surgery. I have small victories that I try to keep up front but my negative side comes out and tells me, "I am going to fail here too". See your weight isn't coming off just like all the other times......:-(. Sorry, for venting and letting this out.

    4 Month out and staled

I'm very sorry you're struggling. The best way to figure out how to get your weight loss going is with the basics: Do you track your calories and measure your portions? Do you exercise?

    2 Weeks Today!

So today is my two week mark. I am officially down 15 lbs. And sooooooo happy.. i will keep this blog short and sweet. I have been going to the gym at least 3 x per week.. and im gonna kick it up to 4 starting this week, because i am afraid of the dreaded.. 3 week stall.. dun dun dun .. lol Anyways i've been doing zumba and free weights and paying close attention to my legs and arms since its about the only things i can do right now that dont hurt. I recently fell so im a little worried about the damage that i may have done so i am being really careful right now, and i will probably be going to the doctors soon to see if i screwed up anything. keep your fingers crossed for me. to date: starting weight 238.1 day of surgery current weight 224.0 starting pant size 18 current pant size 14-16 depending on brand goal 160
