    New here!

Hi welcome. There is a singles forum but nobody posts to it. I am 3.5 years post band to sleeve revision single, enjoying life!

    Scared

I dont completely understand. Gastric sleeve doesn't have ports, lapband does. I was a band to sleeve revision and had drains too. I don't recall the output but it was not excessive. I hope they figure this out soon. The forum rules ask people to not post the same message multiple places...thanks.

    3 day post op

Hello everyone. Im a newbie and have been lurking around for a couple of weeks. I had my band to sleeve revision 3 days ago. I feel great aside from the bouts of nausea. No gas pain at all. Down 10 pounds from 205 day of surgery.

    Had my surgery today!

Congratulations! I had my revision this past Wednesday and left the hospital today. The pain has been pretty bad for me but I keep positive and remind myself that it is all going to be worth it in a few days when the pain (hopefully) subsides and I can return to a more normal routine.
  5. Hello everyone. I had my revision (lap band to GB) this past Wednesday, May 13th and just left the hospital today, Friday, May 15. The hours after surgery and first hours on Thursday were pretty bad; lots and lots of pain. I was lucky to have a wonderful team of people taking care of me and my nurse in the immediate acute recovery unit who was truly amazing and really started me off on a good path towards recovery. Now that I'm home, I'm trying to manage the pain with the liquid Hydrocodone... but I don't wan to take it around the clock as it makes me tired and energy-less. I have a bunch of Unjury protein powders to try and my good old GNC protein shakes. For now, it' s hard to believe that I would be able to keep a whole shake down (even if drinking at the 20 minutes interval) but I hope it will change as I want my energy back! It's too soon for me to be in the "happy" phase of recovery but I'm definitely in the hopeful phase. Congratulations to all the other May GB people for your successes and perseverance; reading your testimonies has been inspiring.

    Gastric Bypass Sucess Story

@@Lovinlife48 you look great!!! I am revising to RNY and can't wait to feel those NSV's congrats to u!
  7. Hello, I had a revision on 11/20/2013, I had the same issues with the band, never could get restriction but yet food was stuck constantly. The revision is the best thing ever for me! It does everything the band was supposed to do. I have never had anything get stuck, I can eat anything but just small amounts. I truly love it and finally enjoying life as a fit and healthy person. I'm about 7 lbs away from my personal goal weight, but according to my doctor I am a total success and hit his goal weight within 11 months of having the surgery. Good luck to you on what ever path you choose.

The unfill did wonders for me. I can get some Protein instead of crap slider foods. I do have quite a bit of stomach pain..??..?? Anyone ever heard of the band irritating stomCh after an un fill? I am trying to process the fact that I will probably have the band removed at some point. The doc said that people are starting to have real problems after years as I am. His asst. Told me they dont hardly do bands anymore. The doc also said yhat sleeve after band has little effect so they have been revising with rny.. scary to me..

    Anyone in Ohio?

I live in Northern Kentucky but travel to Columbus to see Dr. Sonnanstine (he's the best). He did my Lap Band surgery 8 years ago here in Kentucky, but will be revising to Gastric Bypass on June 19th in Columbus.

    Drainage catheter

I was a band to RNY revision and had one for 2 days post surgery.
  11. Hi - I have had the lap band for 2 years and I hate it. Stuck foods, throwing up. Too tight. Too loose. I have lost only 30 lbs. I have adapted bad eating habits (compensating for lack of food with liquids because of fear of eating and getting stuck). I had my band adjusted by a new doctor yesterday who strongly suggested I would do well with the Sleeve. I'd love anyone's thoughts on this subject. Thank you.
  12. I had the revision done 5/4. My wounds are healing really well. Bruising around wounds has diminished to almost zero. Today i get the drain removed from my abdomen. The drain is a bit of a pain because you have to try to hide if you want to go anyplace but it doesn't hurt and it's actually kind of interesting seeing and tracking what comes out through it. I had my first touch of reflux yesterday and today (days 11 and 12). I'm staying at my folks' house because I was told not to drive and I hadn't expected that. So...I don't have all the foods here that I had gotten ahead of time. While here I've been doing 2 costco Protein shakes a day, 1 small can of V-8 (just because it tastes good and feels like real food), 1/2 cup of chicken broth (some days) and Water (sometimes Isopure Protein Water). I haven't felt hungry. I have felt extremely thirsty but my surgeon requires you to pour all intake into a one ounce medical cup and drink it over 15 minutes. I think I have the reflux because I got impatient yesterday and drank too much Soup too quickly. Sorry to be so wordy! I've been cooped up in my parents' house for 11 days and trying not to drive them crazy. As I related in an earlier post, I have a nasty virus or infection giving me earaches, sore throat, sore jaw, sore teeth. Something I got at the hospital and it isn't getting better so it skews my perception of this healing process a bit. There is definitely no comparison between band recovery and band to sleeve revision recovery. By this time after banding I was back at work and I was a firefighter. My surgeon this time around doesn't allow weight lifting until 4-6 weeks out, driving and stuff like vacuuming the floor until 2 weeks out.
  13. Hi there, I had the lap band put in in 2001 and removed in 2010 due to 2 port disconnects. I am not looking into getting the sleeve. Did your insurance cover the sleeve? What it difficult to meet the qualifications? Thank you. I was very lucky that my Kaiser insurance covered the conversion from band to sleeve. I didn't think they would. I had a very old band done in Mexico. I've had Kaiser for 40 years but I did the band in Mexico because Kaiser didn't do them back them. I did have to go through their 8 weeks of informational classes, around of medical test and psyche testing even though I was within 15 pounds of goal weight. The classes were helpful. I made friends and they helped prep me mentally for the sleeve process. I didn't think I needed that but I really did. Having had the band in for 8 years, I'd developed a very limited scope of what I could eat and not throw up. I'd forgotten how to eat like a normal person. It wasn't difficult to ask for the band removal. I just told them I throw up constantly and basically had been living on popcorn and tea for years. The conversion part took more convincing but not that much because I'm pretty shy and passive and yet here I am, 12 days about from my revision surgery.
  14. I have different insurance now, but they covered it as if it was my first time. 6 month diet history, yada-yada. My BMI was 45 so I was approved. My doctor is particular, and she doesn't do revisions (or people who continue to smoke or who don't lose wait while getting ready for surgery). The only reason they performed my surgery (and I'm now at higher risk because I'm older) was that I had lost about 70% of my excess body weight on the band - in other words, it worked very well for me, AND I only had it taken out because it was medically necessary. Counting my 2 week pre-op liquid diet, I'm down 35 lbs already. BMI 40.5
  15. So I think that this might be slightly controversial and different surgeries have different approaches. My surgeon is at a top teaching hospital, bariatric center of excellence and placed my band in 2007 (also 8 years ago). I went to him to discuss the revision and he told me that although some surgeons do it in one procedure he doesn't because he feels that overall the sleeve surgery is low risk but doing it as one procedure (the revision) doubles the low risk and although the risk is still very very low of a leak to him, it is unacceptable to unnecessarily raise the risk. I was quite disappointed because I have young children at home and did not want to have 2 surgeries but I trust him and also feel like I don't want ANY even a slight increase in risk if it can be avoided. So I had the band removed about a month ago and am getting my sleeve in June. The band removal was really easy - I was home by 11am comfortable resting in my bed. I was slightly groggy from the anastesia for a few days but within 3 days I was in the park with my kids and completely back to normal within a week. Now a month later I have zero pain (was sleeping on my port side within 2 weeks). Now I am very happy that I separated the procedures because the band removal was so easy and I can just prepare myself for the sleeve without the worry of recovering from the band removal (port pain) while dealing with the recovery of the sleeve (whatever that will be)! BTW - my band was in for 8 years too, I also did great with it and my surgeon said that the adhesions were not bad at all.
  16. updated: my band eroded and had to be revised on May 21, 2014 to bypass.
  17. Bayugirmrsc, Thanks for sharing Jake.... by the way, Jake is one of my fav. names....js. anywho... My friend and "lapband" mentor had to have her band removed last month and she opted for the sleeve. I talked with her yesterday as a matter of fact and she is SOOOOO happy with the sleeve. I hope and Pray that you have great results also. Please keep us posted. _________________________________________________________________________ As of May 4, my band is out and I was sleeved during the same surgery. My sleeve doctor will do both removal and sleeve if there is not a large amount of scar tissue and if the band/stomach is in good shape, where other surgeons will not do two in one. All went well for me. What I can say is that for me, this one was quite a bit more painful than the initial lapband install surgery, but, my doc warned me. The incision where he removed the port was the worst as far as pain! But then, It was like over night and the pain got better and manageable. I'm down 23 lbs. already which includes the 2 week pre-op diet til today. I'm at the gym again at turtle speeds and feeling great! I needed to tell someone and you asked if I would keep you posted and I went forth, Thank you for that. BTW, Jake is my middle name and I use it because I also like it very much. If you noticed I've changed my display name from jakealta to NoMoBand making it an official name change, but, jake is out of the name :-( So, so far so good, Thank God!!!! Should you ever find yourself in a predicament with a possible revision and have questions, please do ask. I'm here to help. God Bless and thanks again. Jake
  18. I had the band for 10 years. I chose 2 separate surgeries to revise because 3.5 years ago there wasn't that much evidence but it seemed safer. I had no complications. What does surgeon say about risks in 1 surgery vs 2? I think revisions have "about" double the complication rare as virgin sleevers but it's still low.
  19. I had mine in 2008 with the revision this past February. The Dr. Didn't see until he was inside me that my band had slightly slipped and he said I had minimal scar tissue. My recovery from the revision went very smooth.
  20. I did my revision two weeks ago today. Had my band since Nov 2005. Doc got in and said it was a mess the worst he had ever seen. He did a great job and fixed a hernia too. I am so glad I did it all at once. I feel great now that the band is out!
  21. Currently have lapband placed since 3/07. Band has worked and done it's job but now it has started to slip and i have gained 35 pounds. Getting revision done this coming tuesday and feeling nervous after i met with the surgeon yesterday for the pre-op consultation. He says it will take about 2 hrs to do revision. That is more time consuming the removal of the band and all the scar tissue that needs to be removed. I am concerned about the scar tissue. Have had the band inside for 8 yrs and i know scar tissue has built up but im concerned about how much tissue there really is inside. Also wanted to ask if it is appropriate and safe to do removal of band and perform sleeve at the same time? Just feel like this is alot of stress for the body all at once. I know that many patients have gotten this done without problems but just want to get opinions from all of you if possible. Also i got EGD done and surgeon just mentioned band slippage, mild gastritis and GERD. No mention of hiatal hernia or scar tissue.. Would welcome all suggestions.. Thank you
  22. For me personally....If I were going through all that and having the Bypass would fix it, I would revise to it as soon as they could schedule it.
  23. @losinghope15 I really can not offer advice but I empathize with you situation. I'm so very sorry you've had so many complications and have been enduring it for so long. You obviously are a very strong and independent person because you have continued to perceiver for you family. Have you gone to another doctor for a second opinion? I'm not a doctor nor a medical professional but after 9 months and all you have been through to say just be patient seems a bit non-chalant. If you feel the revision is right for you then do it. It seems like you've done your research but again if it is within your means I would have a consult with a different doc just to see what they say.
  24. I researched it pretty heavy. I went into the the process pretty convinced that I was going to do the lap band because I wanted minimally invasive. I never seriously considered the bypass for the same reason. After research and talking to people I found out that the maintenance on the lap band is much more time consuming with all the "fills" then I found out that the lap band is slower than a sleeve. Then I began to hear horror stories about lap band failures that required a revision to a sleeve. I am now post op 3 weeks. I started at 502 two weeks before surgery. I am down 73#s already with no real pain or strain (except the clear liquid diet which got easier after 3 or 4 days).
  25. Hi there! I would love to join this little support group. I'm having revision from band to sleeve on May 29th. I live in Minnesota and looking forward to connecting with others going through this journey...near and far.
