The Nectar tastes good. There are protein shots (Walmart) that are ok, and if you chase them with water or vitamin water you are ok. I can't stand the texture of powder mixed with milk or water. I did the slim fast low carb with a couple fresh strawberries, 1/2 a banana, honey, vanilla (not much of any), blended with some ice. I didn't taste anything but cold and some fruit. Greek yogurt is very smooth, goes down like a shake and has a lot of protein as well. Make sure you have vitamins, fiber, calcium or whatever you might take in either chewable or liquid form. Good luck! Way to be prepared........ :-).

Week 3 stall?
Clementine Sky replied to UnderTheCaliSun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds counterintuitive, but increasing your caloric intake with healthy choices can help to break a stall. I saw weight loss again after adding in an afternoon smoothie made with protein powder or high-protein yogurt like Fage. Your body needs to have a sufficient amount of calories to function properly. The stall is sort of like your body's way of taking a break after running a marathon. Try to be patient and keep the faith. Almost everyone has the "dreaded three week stall." For some it's very brief, and for others it lasts a month. Most of us do then resume weight loss. -
I'm so afraid to over do it that I am no where NEAR getting in enough liquids. I am day 7 post op. I get hiccups but I get them whether I drink or not. So I can't use that as a tool to know I am full. I am just starting full liquids today. My Dr has allowed me yogurt and I am eating it very slowly. Im just having a hard time knowing when to stop and when to keep going. Oh and the thing I miss the most? Gulping down a drink! Sip sip sip sip sip!!!!

How do I know I'm full?
theatrejo replied to theatrejo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This morning I've had 1 oz Protein shake, 2 oz apple juice, 1 oz carnation instant Breakfast, and 1/2 Whipped Yogurt (Yoplait). Now I am starting on Water to get some of this "sweet" out of my mouth. Ug. I'm not focussing on food, just hydrating. Its just hard to hydrate and meet my goals. Im at work already so sometimes I get caught up and forget to drink. I set a timer on my phone. Lets see if that helps. -

Wsully: Try the Flintstones chewables, they're 100% better tasting than those big orange chewables. I've found a pretty good addition to my chocolate protein shakes. Add one small container of vanilla Activa yogurt. It tastes great and it helps keep things moving too -
Help---- how do I even start quitting things ....
scarletwitch19 replied to urukugal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would try substituting healthier options for your current ones. Try drinking Water instead of diet coke. Or crystal light. Maybe try herbal tea instead of coffee. I found that it wasn't the caffeine I needed in the morning, I just liked a hot drink. It's not easy, and I agree with everyone else, you can't change them all at once. But boosting your water intake and going to the gym regularly are so important post surgery and getting in the habit now will make it a much easier transition. As for sugars, now could be a good time to start checking out healthier sweet tooth foods. sugar free Popsicles are a favorite of mine, and sugar free pudding. I also found healthy choice makes 100 calorie frozen greek yogurts (little bit higher in sugar and carbs than my normal foods, but everyone needs a treat once in awhile!). Most important thing I found pre-surgery is record everything!!! Journal what time you eat and how much. Record how much water you're drinking, and how much you exercise. It can be really helpful to look back and reflect on what you did good and what you can improve on. Good luck!!! You can do this -

Hey Everyone, so I am 16 days Post Op.. still struggling with anything other than full / Clear liquids...Saw the doc last Weds.. he said everything looks good, took all my vitals .. blah blah blah.. i explained to him that I was having the "Productive Burp" syndrome ( which means I regurgitate foam ) after I ate maybe too much pureed cottage cheese(?).. anyway - he said do another week of clear liquids.. & slowly try again on the pureed stuff... so I tried a Protein shake ( powdered cause I can make them as thin as I like ) and i cannot get all the liquid down in order to get my 30 gr of protein.. & sure enough.. a little while later .. the dreaded PB. BUT.. as I sit here & write this.. about an hour ago I took half of a Dannon Light & Fit greek yogurt cup.. mixed it with some low fat milk to make it soupy...and so far so good ( keeping my fingers crossed ) I know I have lost more weight this week, but i don;t want to be obsessed with the scale- so I only weigh myself on Thursday... This is just a small bump in the road.. otherwise I feel great.. I do not regret this decision for a moment. Hoping everyone else is doing good. -
You need to be careful with all your ingredients. Sodium is a big problem. The scale stops when you eat too many foods with sodium. I eat greek yogurt, eggs, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, pureed fruits. Pureed meat made me gag. So I will wait till i am on soft foods. I mix protein powder with everything so that I feel fuller longer. And i drink to protein bariatric shakes per day.

Lexsan replied to oklafarmgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I have a schedule I follow to keep me on track and focus. I stared taking my vitamins about 3 weeks prior to surgery to get into the habit of taking my vitamins. I take Multivitamin with Iron and folic acid. B-12 complex Calcium nitrate 1200mg with Vitamin D 3 My food schedule 7:00 Protein shake 9:00 snack Greek yogurt 12:00 lunch Soup w/ protein 3:00 Protein Shake 6:00 dinner soup w/ protein 8:00 snack SF Jello SF pops In between I have to make sure I am drinking Water I'm not near the 64 ounces yet averaging about 40 not counting SF pops which add to water content. -
You should try to have more meat at night. Like a nice piece of chicken and a salad or veggies. I had a taco salad at 7p, I use 0 calorie greek yogurt instead of sour cream and I'm super full.

New post-ops.....what are you eating/drinking?
Alexandra replied to JudiM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
At the end of day 3 I am just transitioning into full liquids. Had a frozen yogurt this afternoon because I was surprisingly hungry after work. And, oh utter joy, more than two hours later I am actually still feeling FULL from that. -
For those who got banded this week and last
LiseSeattle replied to ronwifey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Let's see....I was banded yesterday! Still on pain meds...in a lot more pain today than I was yesterday...hurts to sit up, get up, bend down, etc. Definitely hungry but doing well with slimfast blended shakes, tomato soup, apple juice, lemon yogurt, etc. I have "tape" over my incisions. I noticed today that they are bleeding a bit so I put an extra bandaid on a couple of them. I'm allowed to shower now...but I prefer sponge baths from the husband (which he *thinks* are part of the recovery)! I don't know about sleeping on the side...I'm paranoid I will disrupt the port. For those who got banded this week and last
JeaLee replied to ronwifey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got banded on Feb 19th. I am going in for my post op dr appointment tomorrow. I can't wait to see how much I've lost. I was only on pain meds for 4 days post op. I have stiches but they are the kind that disolve. No bandages. I am still on liguids mostly protein drinks, soup, yogurt, jello. I do eat 4oz of malt o meal for breakfast and 4oz protein shake. I like Carnation Inst Breakfast and add a scoop of protein powder. Lunch is soup and 4oz of protein shake and dinner is mashed potatoes or soup and more protein shake. Jello, apple sause or yogert inbetween. Have you been banded yet? -
A Realistic Lap Band Success Story, And Some Suggestions!
NYC Girl replied to NYC Girl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
These are my strategies for after dinner eating. I usually try them in sequence (not always), but remember, they don't always work. Sometimes I snack. 1) when I want to eat after dinner, I first try to distract myself. Take a walk, take a book to Starbucks, get a coffee and hang out for a while. 2) I pour myself a large glass of Water and use one of the single serving crystal light or Fiber sticks to flavor the water. I sip slowly and see if that will do it. 3) I drink a bottled Protein shake (I use GNC Lean Shakes), perhaps I haven't gotten enough protein. 4) If none of these work, I just have a snack -- but a healthy one, some yogurt with jam or fruit, or some home-made hummus, or even a hard boiled egg (I boil these in bulk each week and use for Snacks. I figure I tried, and that's more than I every did before! Like I said, I consider myself a success if these work most of the time. I remember that prior to my band, I would probably always snack. You can try these strategies, or even come up with your own. What ever happens, move on! -
Calories at 1-2 weeks post-op
orionburn replied to Lizzle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It boils down to how you react to surgery. For me my stomach was swollen for several days so getting fluids in was an absolute chore. Now I feel like I'm drinking normally again although I do control how much I drink at a time. Fluids pass through the stomach fairly fast and they typically don't cause any sort of restriction/full feeling. You'll see that with "liquids at room temperature" foods like yogurts. 5 oz of Greek yogurt is easy to get down in just a few minutes, but if I tried that with a dense protein I'd feel miserable for hours. You'll learn which foods you really have to pace yourself with. -
Calories at 1-2 weeks post-op
MissDonni replied to Lizzle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the first few weeks after surgery my doc and nutritionist told me it's not about calories it's about protein. I needed to hit at least 60 grams of protein a day. I think I started focusing on calories around the 6 month mark and even then they told me worry more about reaching that protein because it helps you heal and gives you energy. I put protein powder into my yogurts and pudding to give it a different flavor and to make sure I was hitting that goal -
Wow! What a difference! Day 1 2 and 3 were painful and horrible. Finally today I'm feeling 1000x better!! I was able to eat 6 Oz protein broth and 2 TBS Greek yogurt + a bit of water. I'm down 20 pounds since my pre-op liquid diet. Going back to work Monday and feel like I can handle it. Whew. I was miserable for a few days. Good luck all!

More water (not every rumble is for eating), pure protein (meats, tofu, yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs) & fat (cheese, nuts, added oils if allowed etc) Good luck 💙

I snack on hard boiled eggs, mozzarella cheese sticks, thinly sliced cucumbers, carrots and apples. Also Greek yogurt.

4 days post op and I'm so hungry!
Lexi_c replied to RedHookRaven's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also I tolerate premier shakes, sugar free pudding and zero sugar okios yogurt. I really want to try scrambled egg whites. -
I'm pretty sure I'm at the best restriction because I am not able to eat a lot of my favorites, like the spicy chicken strips sold at the grogery store. I usually grab a couple for me and one non-spicy strip for Sam, my cocker spaniel. I just can't eat them. I've really had some very painful experiences and it is always while I'm driving. I also can't eat nuts. eggs don't work well. I was planning on eating eggs as my main source of Protein but that went by the wayside. I eat a lot of tofu. I've gotten "in" to curries lately. I had about three small bites of roast beef last night and had to give up on that. It is a good thing I still have Protein powder left so I can add some to my yogurt or I would be really short on my protein. I guess 7.5 on my 10 is where I need to be. I usually forget my Vitamins so I'd better start remembering those. Weight loss? I'm still 45 down from my highest but not moving. It takes will power even at a good restriction to not eat my favorites. It is just a good thing I don't like ice cream. I need to work out more. I've been off my tread mill because I've been fighting a 3 week session of a cold. I need to get back on and ratchet up the calorie useage. Bottom line is you can work around the band if you want. THe band is a great tool but it is up to us to use it correctly. Hang in there everyone.

Anyone in England having their surgery or had surgery ?
yeseyecodeye replied to tia92's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am paying for it private as the NHS advised it could take up to 3 years!!! Not started the pre op yet due to start next week, it consists of 3 pint of semi skimmed milk, 2 yogurts an 2l of water a day by the look of it I was given the option of both also and like yourself i felt the bypass was a bit too much so i opted for the sleeve as its less intrusive. Where about in the Uk are you from? -
Smell of food makes me ill.
JohnnysGirl0424 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 3 1/2 weeks out I was fine up until about 2-3 days ago. Watching others eat fast food or even just normal food was ok with me. All of a sudden anytime someone cooks or brings food home, I literally dry heave. It only makes my appetite problem worse. Since I'm already having a very hard time eating anything. Today I've only had one 80 calorie yogurt. Food disgusts me right now, and I'm not liking this feeling. -
