    June 30th Sleevers?

I only got in 2 oz of strawberry low fat yogurt, 2 oz of G2, 2oz of broth with a quarter scoop of protein and 6oz of water. Not even close to the recommended daily protein or fluid intake. Don't know how I'm gonna do this. I don't wanna eat or drink at all. Never thought I'd hate the idea of food and drink so much. I don't even know how to tell if I'm full cuz I constantly feel full and I'm force feeding myself. Thought I was doing good this morning until I realized how little I consumed. Hope tomorrow is better. I feel the same way - it's like I feel so bloated I may pop! Question: do yall get over heated really quickly? And does anyone feel pain when the take a deep breath?

    June 30th Sleevers?

I did one shake today. I really can't do another. I added some Greek yogurt to some butternut squash soup but I am still short on protein today.

    June Sleevers!

Greek yogurt pureed with sugar free jam or sugar free vanilla ice cream pureed with your favorite flavored Protein Powder, then I refreeze it for an hour. I use Matrix PB - tastes like yummy Peanut Butter ice cream. Refried Beans with grated cheese (melted). I have had Rosa's (if you have one near you, but don't know if they are vegetarian, I've read Taco's Bell's is.) I also have a recipe for refried beans I am going to try. I also have hummus on my list with unflavored protein powder. Haven't tried that yet.
  5. Today is my 7 month "Surgiversary" and I still don't feel hungry in the old sense of the word like I used to. I feel like I want to eat something because it sounds yummy, or I get shaky and headachy when I have gone too long without eating so I know I am hungry. But without the hunger hormone Grehlin anymore, I don't have that gnawing hunger that used to drive me to eat (and caused me to become so overweight). Now, I find that I can plan my meals, make healthy choices, and eat sensibly. When I was at your stage, I got really tired and bored of just drinking liquids pretty quickly and wanted something solid, so when I could have soft foods, I was super excited! My first foods were an over easy egg, cottage cheese, and greek yogurt. And they were delish Good luck on your journey!

    Help

Well i was the same. I threw a carb in there a stella doro breakfast treat. Went down great and it triggered my weight loss again. I started at 205 week of surgery which was 6/4. Im down to 186 this morning. You have to change things up a bit. I think you have to have 600 to 1000 calories a day otherwise your body doesn't want to let go of the fat. My problem is i eat too fast and then i feel it. Soft foods go down easily. Dannon light and lively yogurt banana, lemon raspberry and i found a chocolate cherry which is heavenly but hard to find. Check target for that. Salmon is great and filling and goes down great
  7. So that's actually not a great sign from what I was told by my Dr. and nutritionist - it can stretch out the sleeve and just generally suck. That pain is part of the feedback your body is giving you - if it hurts it's not good and it's too much. I was told to do the following: get really small bowls/plates and forks/spoons - small bites and slow eating are critical to not putting pressure on things Measure your food before you eat. - get half cup scoops and if that's too much get a 1/3 cup or 1/4th cup scoop and start with that Find a way to eat more slowly. This is hard for everyone of any size - we aren't socialized to eat slowly. For myself I have to eat while doing something else with my hands right now. I type and pick up the bowl and fork (I eat anything that isn't pure liquid with a fork - including yogurt - because it's less shovel like than a spoon) take a bite or two and put the bowl down and go back to typing. As soon as I have the first indication that I'm approaching full I put the bowl and fork into the refrigerator and walk away before it hurts. If I leave it near by I will keep eating absentmindedly and it will hurt.

    MyFitnessPal

I use MyFitnessPal. Well... Just started again. I'm BigDaddyJG. I had my sleeve on June 25th. I think I'm doing pretty good. I get my Water in and Protein has seemed to be pretty easy. So far my day looks like this. Breakfast: - 8oz (takes about 30+ mins to drink) in a to go cup, of unjury chocolate w/ FairLife Milk and a scoop of PB2 Peanut Butter powder. That one drink gets my 55 grams of protein. And it takes great. - I wait 30 mins and start drinking a 12oz glass of water or Crystal Light drink over the next hour or so. - Then I'll eat a Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt. That is 15grams of protein. - Then more drink (I'm always sipping) - Then an 11oz Premier Protein shake (Choc) 30 grams of protein - Then drink - Then a 6oz Soup (pureed) for dinner (protein varies) - Then drink..... I'll snack on a suger free popsicle during the evening. I'm still in Phase 2 but I'll get it over 80 grams a protein and all my liquid and I have no issues so far. Best of luck.
  9. Hi there, the links below in my signature helped me understand how the band works and how to work my band; maybe they will help you, too.....and how about calling your doctor to go in for a consultation. Maybe it's time for a fill! I am a person that needed four fills to get to the green zone and then as I lost more weight I needed to go back for a few more with a couple of small unfills in-between. In other words, getting my band "right" for me required some nuancing. I only have this rule for myself: eat when I'm hungry and don't eat when I'm not hungry. I wait until I get a hunger signal to begin my day, which means I never eat Breakfast now. Sometimes I don't eat until much later in the day but usually I am hungry around 11:30 or so. Paying attention to the hunger signal helped me get in touch with the full signal. I find I get bored with my food and sometimes have a sigh -- I just sort of know that I'm done. If I tried to overeat that would be impossible and I would be blapping it back up again. So for being really full, that is a very clear signal to stop immediately. Of course I overrode this quite a bit as I was getting the hang of this new lifestyle but these days I do pretty well so long as I listen. My body will tell me immediately if it's not going to tolerate something (chicken that has been reheated, anything I try to "bolt" down, etc.). I do a Protein shake here and there -- 30 grams a pop -- and my body often wants an egg in the evening. I eat yogurt and I like almonds a lot. I eat cheese (my weakness but what the hell, why not have what I want if I'm not having much?). I'm of the opinion that Americans are obsessed with protein intake. I think I get plenty. My body still has plenty of stored reserves that it is burning; I believe that is the idea. Good luck to you!

    On my way!

My surgery was Tuesday. At my sis in law till yesterday morning and home yesterday. I feel really good. Still very tired and am feeling some gas pressure this morning around my chest. I guess that's what it is. Protein shakes, water, hot tea this morning. Lots of water. Crush some of my pills and mix with yogurt. So far my body is tolerating everything really well. I'm definitely not pushing it. Slow and easy. I'm really surprised at how good I feel.
  11. Thanks. I still figuring out my new tummy. I am on purée food stage. And I trying to find a new food to eat. I can handle yogurt perfectly. I can do a little bit a cottage cheese, chicken, and eggs. Any ideas?

4 weeks post op - filet mignon!

I'm right there with you and at 5 weeks out! A food goes down good one day then makes me sick another. I get sick at work which is awful because I'm s telephone triage nurse and when it hits during a call everything goes on hold. I'm so tired of it I guess I will just make Greek yogurt with added Protein powder my only food. It hurts to be constantly throwing up and drains whatever energy I have in the process. No I don't regret having VSG but I thought I would have an easier time progressing to regular food. Now I just don't want to eat and risk vomiting each meal....yogurt stays down no problem. Go figure! ???????????? Michelle
  13. Glad to hear everyone is doing well. I had my bypass June 9th and am down 30 pounds. Can tolerate cottage cheese, yogurt and Soup right now. Last Tuesday I developed a sharp pain in my left should when I would breath in. As the day went on I also developed the pain in my left side, also when I breathed in. By about 8 that night I went to Urgent Care who sent me to the ER. Long story short is they did a cat scan and discovered there was an abscess on my pouch, so I have been in the hospital ever since. I have been on antibiotics, had another swallow test today to very there was a leak and that came back positive. Doc wants me here a couple more days, will move to stag 3 tomorrow and possibly be released on Sunday. He said he does not see this very often and it is typically caused by overeating. I had been on stage 4 for about a week and could barely eat a yogurt and 1/4C cottage cheese per day, so I did not cheat and have not touched anything not on the stage 4 list! Benefit, I get another week off work :-)

    June 30th Sleevers?

What are you guys eating? All I have done so far is G2 and a few bites of yogurt today. The nausea was bad until about now. I think I'll have to try and eat something now since I'm at home. Maybe some Greek yogurt.
  15. style="margin:0;padding:0;background-color:#d8dde8;color:#5a5a5a;font:normal 13px helvetica, arial, sans-serif;position:relative;"> Dear BariatricPal Member, Happy Independence Day! It’s a nice way to mark time as the days of summer are at their longest and hottest. It’s also a good time to reconnect with your good WLS intentions if you’ve strayed, or to forge ahead if you’re still sticking to the program. Here’s what you’ll find in this newsletter to help you celebrate a healthy July 4 and jumpstart the rest of your summer. Celebrate Your Independence with Healthy Choices! It’s Hot – But You Don’t Need Ice Cream! Your Healthy July 4 Weekend Get some tips and inspiration from the newsletter, then don’t forget to share your holiday weekend over at BariatricPal. And thanks! Sincerely, Alex Brecher Founder, BariatricPal Celebrate Your Independence with Healthy Choices! July 4 is the anniversary of the American adoption of the Declaration of Independence declaring their separation from England in 1776. Each year, Americans celebrate their freedom with parades, block parties, barbecues, and the occasional Independence Day Sale! What does living in a free country really mean to you? If you are a weight loss surgery patient or are considering getting WLS, you may be in a better position than most to realize that an important part of being free is being free to make healthy choices. You are responsible for your health and choices, yes, but you are also free to make good ones! We have access to tens of thousands of healthy food products in well-stocked grocery stores. You have the freedom to choose kale over coleslaw, and chicken over ribs. We have gyms, sidewalks, and parks. You can choose to move rather than sit. We are equal under the law. You can choose to spend your time with positive people who help you make good health choices instead of with people who bring you down. So as you are singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch or you start to get ready for bed after the last of the fireworks goes off, take a few minutes to think about your freedom. You can make your own decisions about what goes in your body and what you do with your time. What will you choose to do? It’s Hot – But You Don’t Need Ice Cream! We all know what it’s like. You’re hot. You need something cold and refreshing. In the old days, you might have given in to some pretty unhealthy options – maybe a beer, a Coke, or an ice cream. But now, you know you can’t even consider these indulgences because they’re not on your weight loss surgery diet. So how can you get your refreshing treat? Not a Chance Okay, the cold treats may be tempting…until you stop to check their calories. Root beer float – 700 calories. 12-ounce beer – 120 calories. A small scoop of Chunky Monkey ice cream – 300 calories. A 20-ounce Coke or other soft drink – 250 calories. Refreshing Treats to Try You can get just as much refreshment, more nutrients, and fewer calories from other choices. What about the following? Half a frozen banana – 60 calories. Half a banana rolled in Greek yogurt mixed with cocoa powder, then frozen – 100 calories. A cup of frozen grapes – 100 calories. Frozen diet lemonade pops – 0 calories. A frozen sugar-free pudding cup – 60 calories. Keep practicing, and making the right choices will become a habit. Pretty soon, the beer and ice cream won’t even be a blip on your radar screen. Your Healthy July 4 Weekend Oxy-moron? Not at all! Between the fireworks, picnics, and family time, you can make July 4 healthy and fun. Hint: skip the baked beans, brownies, and beer, and keep moving. An Ideal Weekend “Ideal” rarely happens to anyone despite our best plans, but it’s always something nice to aim for! Here are a few of our picks for what might contribute to an ideal weekend. Grilling a vegetable you’ve never tried before. Trying a new healthy marinade for your chicken breast. Figuring out when you can schedule your surgery without interfering too much with work and family obligations. Picking out one, two, or five differences between this year and last year – maybe having to do with healthier choices or feeling better about yourself. Selecting your post-summer goal outfit that you’re going to buy if you lose the weight you expect to this summer. The Do’s Here are a few tips from our point of view for getting the most out of your weekend. Do catch up on something. Maybe it’s scheduling an informational session with a surgeon, or stocking up on some of those pantry staples like tuna fish, peanut butter, and canned tomatoes. Do have a good time. There’s absolutely no point in getting WLS and getting healthy if you can’t even enjoy the holidays. Do try to involve the family in some activity, whether it’s a short hike, a friendly game of catch, or a casual swim. Do plan ahead. Bring your water so you don’t need a soda, and take your own protein snacks so you don’t settle for cotton candy. The Don’ts Don’t pack too much into the weekend. Overscheduling can be counterproductive and leave you stressed, making you less likely to eat right and exercise next week. Don’t say “yes” to make others happy. Don’t down the brownies and chocolate chip cookies, or Don’t lose focus. You don’t want to find yourself mindlessly munching buttered popcorn while watching movies on the couch or in the theater, or sipping on soda for the duration of a three-hour family picnic. Don’t drive everyone else crazy. You can make enough healthy food for others, but you can’t force them stop eating cupcakes and ribs. Being too aggressive about your own WLS habits may make them less likely to accept them. Have a wonderful July 4, and keep working on those healthy goals! Come fill us in on your progress at BariatricPal!

    Any June/July SIPS patients?

I just started drinking Isopure, they are fruit flavored drinks (like a vitamin water) but not very sweet. Just had my first one. They come in 8oz and 20oz bottles. 15 and 40 grams of protein. They are a nice alternative to the protein shakes. Another good product for getting your protein in is the Oykos Triple zero yogurt, 15 grams, four flavors - all smooth with no bits in them.
  17. Hello everyone, My surgery was June 24th. I was cleared for full liquids yesterday. I am allowed all Protein shakes, no fat yogurt, sugar free applesauce, sugar free pudding, cream Soups with no lumps, etc. I can't seem to swallow anything thicker than my Protein shake without feeling like a lump is in my throat for hours. I had 1/4 teaspoon of the applesauce earlier and immediately got the lump and nausea. I'm not sure how anyone else does it! Does this mean I probably just still have swelling and should stick to the shakes for now? I can swallow them just fine and fluids just fine. I haven't called the doc because I'm not in pain, I just can't get anything that seems like "food" down. Thanks for listening to me whine. Let me know if you experienced anything similar. Chelle

    4th of July recipe ideas?

Ooh @@Djmohr that sounds wonderful! Gotta keep that one around to try soon! @@heynowkc I don't really have a recipe (though I feel like I used to). I know you don't cook it. You just use a large flat pan and then I was just going to layer fat free refried Beans on the bottom, then a layer of sour cream (or maybe Greek yogurt - maybe even mix with taco seasoning?), then a layer of guacamole (which I probably will just use plain avocados pureed with lime and some spices like cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt and cilantro), and then a layer of pico de gallo (chopped up onions and tomatoes which I will have to pick off), then a layer of 2% Shredded Sharp (or Mexican blend) cheese, then topped with a layer of finely chopped black olives. Hmm, that is only 6 layers. Not sure what I am missing. I think sometimes there are also jalapenos but not quite brave enough to try that yet. Actually I found this receipe. So kinda like this - https://www.weightwatchers.com/food/rcp/RecipePage.aspx?recipeid=57861 Normally served with torilla chips, but I won't be able to do that yet, so I will just eat with a fork with my (hopefully) moist shredded chicken. But it would be good in tortillas (maybe whole wheat ones?) or even in just a lettuce cup (if you can eat raw vegetables yet which I can't). Hope that helps! I am not necessarily a good cook - just a good assembler of foods.
  20. I am finding this thread a little late, but it's nice to find so many people at the same stage after the same surgery. I had by bypass 6 weeks ago today. I have been doing phenomenally well until this week. I think I got a little too cocky with new foods and didn't think about introducing veggies that are naturally high in sugar. Two days ago I had peas and suffered a lot after just a few bites. And then last night I had a terrible episode after two bites of corn on the cob. I should have known better. Today, I'm taking a break and having just yogurt and protein shakes.

Getting through the 6 month diet

If evening meals and grazing are challenges for you then talk to your NUT about strategies that will fit in your plan to help you through. Are you on a specific diet plan? You can stock up on easy-to prepare meals. For instance get a rotisserie chicken that you can use when you get home. You can keep yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese in your refrigerator for Snacks. Keep a box of sf Popsicles in the freezer. Invest in a good Water bottle and keep it with you all the time and drink all day. Now is the time when you can start developing habits that you will rely on after surgery. Use the resource you have available to you (your NUT), this is one of the main reasons insurance companies require a supervised diet. Best of luck. It will get easier.
  22. Minor step back I tried white fish yesterday I guess ate to much or to fast or something an hour later throwing up ???? when back to just shake and fluids last night. Woke up this morning only had water got sick again. Ugh a few hours later able to keep yogurt down. Just not feeling well today.

    April bypass buddies.

Definitely getting at least 64oz water daily. At least 60g protein too. I got sick of protein shakes, So I add a scoop of genepro to my morning yogurt, I buy the Chobani Flips, they're soo good!! Lunch is usually some type protein, sometimes as simple as cottage cheese with fruit, or chili. I sometimes buy a grilled chicken wrap from Wendy's and just scrape out the insides and eat it without the tortilla. I also use Pure Protein, protein bars. Higher protein and low sugar. I usually eat 3-4 times daily, sometimes a snack of cashews.
  24. I am almost three months out from surgery and have only lost 52 lbs including the 18 lbs lost in pre-op phase. I've been in a stall for a week but I continue to walk 4 miles a day seven days a week. I feel like I am losing inches but the scale doesn't lie. Breakfast is 2 scrambled eggs and 1/2C fruit. lunch is 4oz of lean Protein. dinner is 4oz lean protein and 1/2C cooked vegetables. The hardest part is getting in 64 oz of Water and I have to force myself to reach that amount each day. My plan doesn't allow yogurt until six months out. I do drink two mugs of caffeinated coffee in the morning which I'm not supposed to be doing. One cup of caffeinated coffee is allowed at six months. I do have a container of sugar free Jello in the evening and during the day I have one or two low fat cheese sticks. Hopefully soon the weight loss will resume. I'm getting a bit discouraged with my progress. The surgeon predicted I'd lose 17 more lbs but I'd like another 30 lbs more than that. At this rate it will be a year before I can reach my goal. One good point is that I've been taken off blood pressure medication, have had my statin Rx dose reduced by half and had my CPAP pressure settings lowered.

    4th of July recipe ideas?

@@Annek2014 I would suggest that you could enlist the help of the other adult in your family in grilling some lean meats and vegetables! You could even do kebabs. Skinnytaste.com has a lot of really good kebab ideas but I'm sure you can come up with your own combination! Then for dessert, do some fruit or watermelon. ( These look fun!: http://www.skinnytaste.com/2012/03/rainbow-fruit-skewers-with-yogurt-fruit.html ) Maybe a tossed salad and you've got the makings of a fun and healthy 4th! Good luck!
