That’s a good feeling—I got on my motorcycle for the first time two weeks ago and have discovered I actually need a new helmet because it’s loose around my face now.

Yellow saliva, bad mouth order after sleeve
pintsizedmallrat replied to haneen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it making you cough? The only reason I ask is because I had acid reflux and I was coughing up foul smelling, brown/yellow phlegm. It turns out I had inhaled stomach acid into my lungs in my sleep and had developed bacterial pneumonia. I was in the hospital for a week. Please get it checked out especially if it’s the result of a cough. -
Pre-op diet, hungry, not losing weight
pintsizedmallrat replied to JessiPhoenix's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You’re going to be really hungry, unfortunately. I had to do it for three weeks and was pretty miserable the whole time. Try to fill up on sugar free beverages which will make you feel more full and keep things moving. -

Did your comorbidities go away after surgery?
pintsizedmallrat replied to ClareLynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Mine have. I’m six months out and have lost 75% of my goal. I had high blood pressure and mild sleep apnea, both of which are completely gone (I don’t even have to take medication for the HBP anymore, and the improvement happened at around the 3 month mark). -
Can you post what your food intake looks like over the course of the day? Dec, Jan, Feb surgeries
pintsizedmallrat replied to idk4w's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am six months out. I don’t typically have any snacks of any kind but this is what I have in a normal day: Breakfast-1/2 serving of yogurt or cottage cheese, 1/4 cup of fruit such as blueberries or strawberries, 1/4 oz pumpkin or sunflower seeds Lunch: dark greens salad with 2 oz grilled chicken and 1 oz chickpeas, 1 T salad dressing, usually some tomatoes or other low carb veggies mixed in Mid-afternoon: a cup of tea with two scoops of collagen peptides mixed in Dinner: 3 oz of grilled chicken, fish, or lean pork. About half a cup of vegetable or other high fiber side. After dinner: one square of dark chocolate, usually more tea. I tolerate raw vegetables and fibrous stuff better than some others at this point, so YMMV. -
It's basically 1kg a week. Weight loss far in excess of that probably isn't all fat anyway.

Burning in stomach 12 months post-op
katherineheartburn posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all - I’ve been trying to get into my surgeon’s office but they’re really booked out. As I keep trying, I wanted to see if anyone has experienced this post-op. (Sleeved 2/2021) Since December, I’ve frequently been experiencing a burning sensation in the lower left part of my stomach, regardless of what I do or don’t eat. I’ve taken Prilosec and it helps temporarily, but the feeling is getting more intense. I don’t have any reflux/heartburn symptoms or acid coming up…just the pain below. I’m going to see my primary care doctor for it next week, but was wondering if anyone had this? I’ve heard of GERD being a common post-op side effect, but this is nothing like the gastric reflux I had before surgery. Makes me think it’s an ulcer but would be grateful to know if anyone had these symptoms too. Thanks! -
Post op constipation…
Arabesque replied to Zerofuckstogive70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, yeah, constipation is very common. Took a good 18 months before I got back into a pretty regular routine which was 12 months into maintenance. Add a soluble fibre to your diet like Benefibre (avoid the ones that swell in your tummy). Keep your water up. Add a few more vegetables, a little fruit or some whole or multi grains to your diet as allowed. And establish your own routine of treatments to ease the constipation. Take Miralax every day as @catwoman7 suggested. I’d take a stool softener on day 3 if I had no movement. The longer you let it go the harder & more compact it becomes making it very painful to pass. -

Hey everyone so I had my sleeve on March 7th this past Monday and I must say that I was not expecting the level of pain im in. There are a lot of challenges im facing right now that im just uncertain about and im only one week in. I have a call with the DOC in the morning and hopefully we can get to the bottom of some of this. I haven't had a bowel movement since the surgery and each day my fluid intake is less and less. Im trying to force fluids down causing super sharp pains and my body just doesn't want it. Anyone who has been through this, can you please tell me what you did and how you got through. Thanks. And good luck for all those March people going in.. -
Bypass revision after sleeve? 8 years post op Sleeve
gabbykittyvsg replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I converted from sleeve to bypass almost 2 weeks ago due to severe GERD. My recovery has not been typical. My small intestine swelled almost completely shut at one of the newly created junctions so I had to go back in the hospital for a few days for a lovely tube down my nose and into my stomach, more steroids and forced rest in the form of nothing to eat or drink. I'm fine now, fluids are moving through and my digestive system is fully back on line. The swelling wasn't a big surprise since my sleeve swelled quite a bit when I first had it done 7 years ago. Considering the severity of your GERD, absolutely get the conversion to bypass. The GI doc who did my first endoscopy was worried enough about the results of my second endoscopy (done by a different doc) that he called me to make sure I understood the severity of what could happen if it wasn't surgically corrected. For what it's worth, I've not had any reflux since surgery. Sent from my Z5157V using BariatricPal mobile app -
March 2022 Surgery Buddies
gabbykittyvsg replied to LilaNicole20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
March 1st here. After the surgery and readmission I didn't sleep much that first week. I've been sleeping 12+ hours since I got home, making up for the sleep a person doesn't get in the hospital. The incision itchies are almost gone and my abdomen is looking better every day. Adhesive reactions are a pain! I have a follow up with my surgeons nurse practitioner on Tuesday and the dietitian on Wednesday. I've lost about 9 pounds so far which is a major surprise considering all the IV fluids and steroids I had. Saturday the poop damn broke loose and that's where I've lost most of the weight. Fluids have been no problem and I'm now able to start thickening up some liquids. I've totally blended soups and they tasted sooooooooo good. I'm totally over the taste of protein drinks so I've been doing a fair amount of Fairlife skim milk, yummy! I go back to work tomorrow evening. I do some light janitorial work and tomorrow night's account only takes about 1-1.5 hours. Sent from my Z5157V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Post op constipation…

Oh boy I have this problem too. I went a whole 7 days without going last week and in the end I didn't dare go out in case I had a accident. I hope I can eat more soon and then eat more vegetables. -
I’m curious about other WLS centers. My center has an online support group that meets while I’m working or on my way home. I’ve gone to it during school holidays but found they talked about breaking stalls or simple facts. I try to bring up meatier topics like feelings about food changes or non-scale victories and it’s crickets. Just wondering…Thanks

Only 22lbs lost 2 months post op - what is happening?
learn2cook replied to Zerofuckstogive70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I lost 20 lbs at 2 months. You sound like you are doing well. Everyone looses at their own pace, and exercises at their own capacity too. I love to move and be active and have found that if I feel “starving “ I should eat a little more protein or veg and the weight stall ends. My plan is mostly protein and veggies, but I can eat anything. That said, I dump and have problems digesting simple carbs so I tend to avoid them or pair them with protein if I really want them (just me). Most of the time it’s not worth it (still feeling the noodles from 2 days ago). -

I just wanted to update you on my experience. My surgery went very well on Tuesday and now on Sunday, I feel pretty much normal. My advice is to be first on the surgery schedule even if you have to wait an extra week or two. My surgery was moved up an hour and then delayed by 2 1/2 hours with little feedback and you can’t see your support person once they take you to pre-op. I was in pre-op about 4 hours. My surgery being so late also resulted in my not having a bed after recovery room. They put me in a cubicle in a very noisy area until I freaked out and spoke to the house supervisor. They finally moved me on the same unit into a real room. It was definitely not a post op unit, though. It was basically a do it yourself recovery overnight. Thank goodness I went home the next day. I’m certainly happy to be passed that part. Have you decided on sleeve versus bypass? Do you have any reflux issues right now? If you do, I would definitely just go for the bypass. I had the sleeve and ended up with constant feelings of indigestion plus chronic gastritis. Of course, it’s too early to know anything about my bypass experience. -

Can you post what your food intake looks like over the course of the day? Dec, Jan, Feb surgeries
DaisyAndSunshine replied to idk4w's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not exactly sure what stage you're at. If you can fill out your profile, it would give us a better picture. During my full fluid phase I was easily able to consume 1/2 cup. So it all depends on what stage you're at and the kinda food you're consuming. 3 months post-Op and I can easily do 3/4 cup of meal. Half of it is usually yogurt and other half would be beans, lentils, veggies, some grains, fruits etc etc. So it all depends on the kinda food you're referring to and the stage you're at. -
Bernstein diet after weight loss surgery?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Ivanova8's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I remember having done with this diet about 15 yrs back. Lost weight and put it all back on plus more. Ever since that diet, my metabolism has been a wreck. It also triggered binge eating disorder in my case which never really went away with the cycle of yo yo dieting. Dr. Bernstein diet or any other such restrictive diet, I wouldn't recommend it anyone. Dr. Bernstein's diet is not only low carb, but also an extremely low calorie diet. I used to consume around 500ish calories in a day and back then I was too young and inexperienced what that can do to one's biological system. They also don't focus on getting appropriate protein in. Their main focus is to cut down on all macros to make sure you're losing weight. That also meant you would be losing your muscles along with it. I have faced the repercussions of that diet for over a decade. In my case personally, I wouldn't recommend any sorta restrictive diet for life because it can trigger binging which can be catastrophic. One of the reasons, I opted for bariatric surgery is because it does provide restriction on protion control but also helps with stabilizing the hormones and thermostat. I don't anymore have the tendency or feels to binge. My cravings aren't crazy either nor do I think of food all the time. The constant head hunger isn't there nor do I have the constant voice telling me to order this food or that. Anyone who struggles with binging, please do yourself a favor and don't ever take the route of restrictive diets especially after you're given a shot to fix your mess with this surgery. Yes, bariatric surgery also comes with its limitations and lifelong committment, but it is something that is sustainable if you keep your focus. So, in my opinion, I wouldn't recommend it especially Dr. Bernstein's diet. __________ And if you wanna replicate its diet, modify it. Keep it low card but make sure you get enough protein and calories. You also don't need that kinda Vitamin B12 intake. Oral sublingual pills are enough to keep your B12 levels normal. Just got my levels tested 3 months post-Op, and they are in the normal range. -

Have you heard of Dr. Kini Subhash/was he your surgeon at Mount Sinai in NYC?
BluPriscilla replied to MandM1188's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Ok how are you feeling??! Did you have a good experience at Mount Sinai? My consult is in three weeks. By any chance do you have the list things you needed to complete prior to being able to schedule the surgery? I was told this would be given to me at the consult, but I wanted to get a head-start on scheduling appointments for after my consult. Thanks! -

I am having a weird psychological thing right now. Although we had a freakishly cold day in GA yesterday, it is time to start putting away winter clothes and pull out spring/summer clothes. I know I should probably go ahead and donate the winter things. Many are too big now just 5 weeks post op. But I keep thinking, “What if I don’t lose weight?” I really like clothes so I will be storing a lot if I hang on to them. Any advice? -

Can you post what your food intake looks like over the course of the day? Dec, Jan, Feb surgeries
Guest replied to idk4w's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely. If you ate, say, 600 Calories on a Wednesday. And if, on that Wednesday, you burned, for example, 1800 calories, then you lost body fat. On that day, you lost body fat. And a little of other things, some protein. Not from muscle primarily like people say but from skin and intestinal lining which are high turnover proteins. The scale doesn't always reflect that linearly. You may retain water, or have inflammation. The people who say "I lost 21lb in the first two weeks and in week three I've stalled" - well, it's simple nonsense! They didn't lose anywhere close to 21lb in two weeks. It's takes a caloric deficit of 3500 Calories to lose 1lb which means that they'd have needed a deficit of 5250 Calories per day. Which even if they ran a marathon and ate absolutely nothing, is impossible. So...they almost certainly lost inflammation weight after their operation trauma, glycogen/water if their carbohydrate levels are much lower than pre-operatively and there will be other aspects too like serious dehydration. And this infamous 3 week stall? Well, all those things are largely finished and most people won't be doing the KFC buckets with extra fries in week three, so why is it? Normally increased fibre, giving roughage weight in the intestine and rehydration due to the ability to drink more water.
