9 times out of 10, searching answers the questions being asked... that's why searching should be your first step in finding answers before posting. This way, the site doesn't get clogged up with the same questions over and over and over (which is exactly what's happening). Pretty sure most folks here (those of us that stuck around) are quite accommodating with providing answers, even to those questions asked a million times. I've been around, on and off, since 2011. I've seen the exact same question get asked more times than I care to count. That said, this side of the forums (rants and raves section), and this thread (SMH), are *ALL* about venting frustrations.

Sleeve Veterans: What makes you successful long term?

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to thank you for sharing. I really REALLY needed to hear this right now in my journey. I was sleeved almost exactly 3 years ago. Everything was awesome for the first 18 months. I felt amazing, I got within 9 lbs of my goal weight by 12 months out. I was training for a 10K... then a lot of major life changes, as well. I'm a single mom. Have been for 11 years, so that part wasn't new, but I had my heart broken again in early 2017 (devastated, really), 2 changes of job/career in less than 10 months following that, problems with my teenagers, and a pretty major depression brought on by another heartbreak that I fought for the better part of 6 months recently. I turned to alcohol to numb myself since I couldn't turn to food and, as you can imagine, that did not go well for me. Tons of empty liquid calories and no motivation to exercise or eat right... when I did eat, it was small portions but I was losing the battle to get enough protein and water. I don't list this as excuses, because I know I need to own my poor choices. And I want to start over. I initially lost over 115 lbs and maintained in that range for nearly a year before it fell apart. I've gained back about 85 now. I have been beating myself over it and hoping that its not too late to turn the ship around. I still have the tools... Thank you for letting me know its not out of my reach. I'm trying to get back to basics this week with protein and water... and also am 1 day alcohol free (which doesn't sound like much yet, but I'm motivated to keep going)

    Should I switch to RNY?

My sister-in-law had RNY over 10 years ago and she is still doing really well. Of the two surgeries, RNY is the gold standard and has the best results long term. You never hear of someone going in for a revision from RNY to sleeve, just saying.

    Smoking

I smoked a few cigarettes a day for about 10 years and quit several months ago. Within a week of quitting, your lungs feel SO MUCH BETTER. I used to wheeze walking upstairs, thinking it was due to my weight... nope. Now I can sprint up steps and not be out of breath at all (and I am still pre-op). You really have no clue how much it affects them until they start healing themselves. Now, on rare occasion, I will have one cigarette if I am out with friends and I immediately feel wheezy and awful. Good luck to you!

this one is not on this board, Its on the myfitnesspal food log. Post everyday to let us know how you're doing! Copy and paste the days in your response--tell us how much you lost and other non scale victories (NSV) you'd like to share.
  12. Just curious if there are any active Weight Loss Challenges going on in the forums right now (ex: "Fall Challenge" etc) I've tried searching for about a half hour now and not having a lot of success. I was sleeved 10/5/15 and last week was my 3rd "surgiversary" I've been struggling over the past 18 months (depression, alcohol, etc) and gained a BUNCH. I'm out of that fog now and recovering, and now I'm trying desperately to get back on track with my weight, too. I could really really use the motivation and accountability those challenges offer, so I'm hoping someone can link me to something. Thanks! Chrys Pre-surgery weight = 254 Low weight (December 2016) = 138 Current weight = 223 (told you it was baaaaaad ) Please wish me luck. Going back to basics and scared I may have ruined everything.
  13. Hi All, So I am 10 months PO and I have a small bump/ball like item in my abdomen, maybe a little up and to the side of the large incision area. I had a CT scan a couple of weeks ago and everything showed up fine. Has anyone else had this? I asked to be put back on Protonix, as I think this started happening a little after the 3 months I was on it right after surgery... and my doctor just put me on Hyoscyamine to see if that would help as well. I dont have pain... it's just a annoyance as if I am leaning to the right side too long it's like HELLO! I'M HERE!... and then I readjust and it goes away. Thank you!

    Any March 2018 Sleevers?

March 19, 2018 checking in. I am doing well for the most part. I am way below my goal weight which I am not sure how I feel about. My doctors goal was 200, mine was 185, and I am 174. I am debating if I should just get down to 170 and see how I feel. Everyone keeps telling me to try and gain a few pounds back. How do I do that in a healthy manner? I eat plenty and I exercise 5 days a week. I am 89 lbs down since surgery and 112 overall.
  16. Oh! All i could think of was 🎶 somewhere over the rainbow🎶 when I saw this... Enjoy life, do 10 jumping jacks, grudgingly have some kale, partake in *cardio*, eat a carrot, stress less- Balance... Aloha!

Updated list for folks to find others having the sleeve done on the same day. (If I missed anyone, I apologize--let me know, and I'll add you. Please don't quote this whole post, though; it's huge.) I'm trying to only re-post every couple of days so I'm not bogging down the conversation, but we've had several people with surgeries this week join us recently I figure, even if they haven't gone through all 29+ pages of posts, they still might want to know who to look for, to be surgery buddies. He keeps it for a week from your release date. So I was released from the hospital last Thursday and we have the drain removed this Thursday. I'll have had it a total of 10 days by then. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Any in Boston going through BMC??

I was up and back to normal in about 3 days... just didn’t lift anything over 10 lbs . Holidays will be fine... you won’t be hungry but I’d think you’ll be ok for everything else. My pre op was only a few days - liquids for 2 days prior. I didn’t have to do a big diet before - I just couldn’t gain. You’ll be ok- has was a beast but the incisions felt ok after maybe a week. sleeping (side sleeping pills on stomach$ and getting up were tough for a bit.  I hope you get a date soon :)

When will the hair loss stop?

Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack the thread! I have been very lucky to be able to avoid cold sores by taking L-Lysine, topical treatments really don't do much for me. Everyone is different, but feedback is very helpful! Back to the original topic, I am curious about Frustr8's question as well! I'm also curious if "most" bariatric patients are experiencing hair loss or is it mainly bypass patients? So far it sounds like I should take biotin and l-lysine to help prevent hair loss, but I understand there's no guarantee. From what I've been reading, doctors aren't entirely sure why hair loss is so common, but it has to be the extreme diet change, it must shock the system. My initial consults are booked for 10/30 so I'm I am reading everything I can in order to be prepared!

For me, it has always been pretty instant. They tell you to count backwards and you're like 10.... then the next thing you know you're in the recovery room waking up and it feels like no time has passed at all. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sweet tooth

Sugar free fat free pudding is my go to. It kills the urge to eat anything else sweet. I make it with protein powder added so it's a great snack. I made chocolate butterscotch cups all measured out at 1/2 cup . Only 115 calories 10 protein. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    November 2018 Sleevers!?!?

100% I can relate to the fear of it not working, for me I feel like a good portion of my life has been dieting... I struggled for many years with infertility and I have PCOS and Ehlers danlos. All of those years (6) I took so so many hormones to be able to get pregnant, and afterwards my body is a mess... nothing has worked atkins, ww, boot camp... etc... my PCOS is out of control and my weight is out of control and I have been in a cycle of break a leg casted for 10 months pack on weight... I could go on and on, and did go on and on at nutrition to the point of tears, there is nothing about this journey from where we have to where we are going that has been easy. She was great though and supportive and said it was ok to be afraid and she has had others in my shoes and it has worked, it has helped them, on here I have found so many that have similar shoes and it is working for them as well. I read the sleeved life written by a patient and it really gave me a little easier of a perspective... I think making the changes already is going to help us... Nothing we have done to this point has been this different though right so I am choosing to believe that this will work. Also I think it was brave to mention the fear! I think it is hard to talk about and face!
