  1. I am two and a half weeks post op, and am having frequent diarhea. Not daily, nor several times a day, but pretty frequently. I am eating only protein and green vegetables, plus the occassional protein shake. Absolutely no cheating going on! Has anyone else experienced this? Do I need to make a change in my diet, such as adding carbs? The only carbs I'm getting now is the occassional glass of white wine, which my doctor says is okay.
  2. 3.5 weeks out and I've been hungry almost the whole time. It's a different feeling of hunger but it's definitely physical and not "head" hunger. I ignore it for the most part, and keep drinking. I was really hoping it would go away, like I've heard.
  3. I came across this while roaming on the net, and found it worthwhile to share. Of course it is 100% recommended to follow your Dr.'s instructions. This guide may promote questions to ask your dietitian or Dr. for your optimal success. I am still in the learning phase as my 2 week pre-op starts Sept. 5th, so the post surgery veterans already know this. https://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-big-gastric-sleeve-diet-guide/

    I'm three months out
  5. I am 3 months postop and have a lot of excess fat hanging from my upper arms. I have been adding weights (triceps, biceps, press, etc) to my workout routine for the past 2 weeks and am wondering when I might start see some results. I am looking forward to meeting one of my goals of wearing a sundress this summer but will kind of be embarressed with the arm flab. Thanks
  6. Has anyone gone into this operation already diagnosed with the heparin allergy? I've had a blood clot and been diagnosed and it seems to be throwing my surgeon a curve. He hasn't decided how to handle yet and I'm a due to be scheduled in a few weeks. This is making me wonder if I should do it at all.

    Need help to gain weight

I am being followed by my surgeon. He believes I have a kink that caused a stricture from folding and unfolding. I also have severe GERD. I have had Botox to my pylorus, and am doing my 3rd weekly balloon dilation today. The dilations have not done much. I believe the next step will be a stent placement for 60 days and my guess is this will happen next week. I am also being followed by a thoracic specialist i am hoping for a trial placement for a device called LINX to help the GERD. I have 2 complications going on. Thank you!
  8. It might make sense in your mind to take 2 100% vitamins, but if you do, don't take them together, certain vitamins in some forms are not bio available easily, I have heard shaklee is great, I ended up purchasing a liquid vitamin from Nashua Nutirition, I take a brand called Bell, Liquid multi vitamin complex, I also got bariatric advantage calcium citrate carmel chews and Celebrate brand B-12 sublinguals. I have no problem taking them everyday. I was self pay in Mexico, so i did not get a lot fo direction as far as what brands they recommend etc, but I will be having my blood work done this week probably, and will know if I am deficient in anything then.

    Calories Or Cups?

I was banded on 12-29 and have been eating between 600 to 1100 in calories per day. Lost 20lbs in the first 6 1/2 weeks. Pound up or down for the last 6 1/2 weeks. I see where people list what they've eaten for the day & it seems like it is so much less than what I've eaten. I can eat 1/2 to 1 cup of greek yogurt for Breakfast or cottage cheese, Soup, etc but others list "I can only eat a few bites" or 1/4 cup of whatever. I do measure all my food so I'm just concerned that I'm eating too much volume instead of watching my calories like I've been doing. Had 3cc in band from surgery & I requested a fill last week since I could eat pretty much anything. Now have 4 1/2 ccs and am eating softer foods for a few more days. Opinions?
  10. I love both and was eating SF Popsicles with wild abandon when one day I noticed there are 4 carbs in each SF Popsicle and 11 in each SF Fudgicle. Sounds insiginificant, however, when you eat 4 SF Pops a day the carbs add up. I have been losing, but it was in very small increments here and there and a lot of intermittent stalling was taking place. I have limited my SF popsicles to one a day and swoosh the scale is moving daily now.... The only reason I never noticed the carb count is because the tear strip on the box went right through the nutrition label. I told myself, "oh there aren't any carbs in SF pops, everyone is living on them during the liquid stage", well I was wrong and have now chaned my ways..... Be aware of the hidden carbs.....
  11. I just need a place to vent for a minute. When I met with the surgeon, he told me that a surgery date in June should be no problem. He also said that since the endoscopy he requires isn't an insurance requirement, they would go ahead and submit and approve as soon as I finished the requirements and then would worry about the endoscopy. I finished all my reqs on Monday. I called on Tuesday just to verify the next steps (I wasn't sure if they would automatically schedule or if I needed to call). They went ahead and scheduled my endoscopy that day and told me that the nurse would verify I cleared all reqs and then call and schedule me for surgery. *waits* I called back today just to find out where I was in the process since I hadn't heard anything - and they were holding my paperwork until after the endoscopy (which is on June 6th!). Somewhere some wires got crossed. She said she'd confirm with the surgeon that we could schedule prior to the endoscopy (she said he sometimes tells people that but it isn't standard) and then she'd get the nurse to check my paperwork and clear me. I know I shouldn't be quite so frustrated - it's only been a week - but my expectations were high after talking to them. Every day that passes is a day that means I may not be able to be scheduled in June, and because of work that's the best time for me to take the time off. Okay, /rant.

Question about amount of weight loss

My surgeon is scary, he wanted to take down 100% of my excess weight (110 lbs) in 6 months!!! I guess I'm doing ok for the first month (I've lost 18.48 lbs - 3 weeks out) but now it's getting slower and slower, not sure if I can lose 10 lbs next month. :-(
  13. Today has been a tough day. I'm freshly out of surgery. Only a week and 2 days. I physically am doing amazing, but I'm mental having such a hard time. I never thought I would miss food so much! I think about bad foods all the time and when I pass my favorite places I get down. Is this temporary? Any suggestions on how to control and help this problem?
  14. Hi there! I'm new to this site, but I am looking for some support and am excited to join the community!! I had my lapband surgury in October of 2009 with Dr. John Webber at DMC in Detroit...having no clue what I was getting myself into. I was young and healthy (besides, you know, the morbid obesity) so I went to a seminar, got an appointment with the surgeon, and it was scheduled for 2 weeks later. I lost 20lbs with the pre-op diet and another 25 after....and then I stalled out. I started to get back on the wagon at almost a year post-op, and that's when I found out I was pregnant! The surgeon emptied my band, I gained about 50lbs during my pregnancy and it's been pretty much an uphill climb since then. Throughout the years I have been on the yo-yo of "Back to it! Let's lose weight! Fill it up!" to "I can't eat anything healthy, everything gets stuck, I'm having pains, I'm sick of throwing up" and after lots of test, they empty it. Then a bit later I get motivated and try again...rinse and repeat. My band has been empty for almost 2 years now. I am officially 35 lbs heavier than when I went to that seminar years ago. Something needs to change. I have fought my lapband since day 1, which I am sad to say. I was 22 when I got the surgery and did not address any of the issues that got me to that surgery in the first place. I did what so many do and foolishly hoped that the lapband would magically fix my overeating and poor choices. Well, I hate to break it to any newbies out there, but it didn't!!! I still had the issues and poor choices, and just added an inflated tube inside of me. I know I'm sounding quite negative toward the band, that is not my intent. The lapband can definitely help drastically and has taught me SO much about myself and eating. You just need to be prepared to put the work in as well. So, after that novel, hi! I'm here! I am looking to support others so they don't make the mistakes I did, and to get support myself so I can start moving in the right direction again! I look forward to talking to you all!!

    Stall question

Gains during a "stall" while working out... totally normal. Body fat% is what needs to be watched as well. (as stated above, but I hammer on this point SO OFTEN!) Just stick to your plans, hit your metrics and keep exercising and it'll eventually turn around.
  16. Two weeks out I was probably getting about 400-500 calories. Protein shake x2 = 340 Chx broth = 150 At this point, just try to get your protein in and liquids. Once your stomach swelling goes down, you will be able to get more in. Don't worry. It will be soon.
  17. prob 800 - 1000 I need to start tracking it closer. It's killing me not working out or playing raquetball right now. I'm trying not to get get too crazy, just not seeing the scale move this last week is frustrating. I am going to cut out carbs this week and see if I can get it going again. I was eating soups that had some in them.

    Sit ups

Hi lalaredd, you and I aren't far from each other; I am in Sterling. I started ab exercises somewhere between six and seven weeks post-op. I started slow with crunches and leg lifts etc. and added a few more reps each night.
  19. "Enlightened - The Good-For-You Ice Cream" Sea Salt Caramel bars. 80 calories, 7 gm Protein, 5 grams of Fiber, 5 grams of Sugar. It was a decent sized bar too! On the box they had pictures of so many other of their products. I wouldn't eat them daily, I have only eaten one in a week. That being said, Ice Cream has never been one of my trigger foods. Otherwise, proceed with caution!

    Comfort eating crisis!

My husband had to have open heart surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota a couple of weeks ago. I was VERY worried about how this would effect my weight. My triggers for eating have always been boredom and stress. I was going to have a lot of both. I started buying sugar free gum and breath mints. I made sure I had a couple bottles of water to drink in the car. The nervous eating was taken care of by the gum and mints. To my amazement, I actually lost weight over the week we were in the hospital. I made a point of getting a walk in everyday, but other than that did not get any other exercise. This is a very stressful time for you and your family. Take some time to take care of yourself.

Sudden tightness 3 weeks post fill

Hmm! I was feeling a little congested this week maybe that's the source! So many factors can affect the stomach it's crazy!!

Oh hunny I'm there too right now n was banded on Jan 2nd. I've been at 219-220 for 3 weeks now n have totally upped my exsersize. It's verry frustrating but I'm wondering if it has to do with loosing weight so fast at first. Idk if that's the case but my cloths does feel looser. We'll get there as long as we keep moving in the right direction, exsersizeing n eating the right foods.
  23. I am 2 weeks post op and I feel like I eat too much. I can eat about 3/4 C. of refried beans. I had some soft raviloi, and a yogurt. I can eat the whole yogurt cup. I wasn't able to eat that much last week. Is this normal? I feel like I am hungry a lot, and I can eat more than I have been. I try not to. I am sure it is head hungry going on...HELP!
  24. It's a statistic based on averages. The average person loses 60-70% of their EXCESS body weight. So if your healthy weight is 100 and you weigh 200 on average you will lose 60-70 lbs. That means there are people who lose more and people who lose less. As others have said, it's all about how you use the tool surgery gives you. I am a couple weeks away from being 8 month out and have lost 91% of my excess body weight (111lbs). Still losing relatively easily so I have no reason to think I won't make 100%. Only 15lbs to go!
  25. I'm two weeks out from surgery and today I have a funny feeling in my pouch. I ate my normal Breakfast (1 oz scrambled egg and 1oz diced ham). Well here it is about 2 hours later and it feels like I have a rock in my stomach. I don't know what it is but it's uncomfortable and making me nauseous. I have no idea what to do. I haven't had any problems until this. Souls I call my surgeons office?
