No weight loss in 6 months

When are you eligible for a fill again? Hope that you are able to get to the green zone soon so you are not battling the appetite monster. The links below in my signature really helped me; maybe they will help you, too. Best wishes! Oh, and I have been an exerciser for years but it turns out I was just shy of what I really need in order to "get there." Maybe add a little time and see what happens? Love the Protein first remark above. I have been occasionally using GENEPRO protein powder which is tasteless, a powder which I can add to my yogurt or whatever. Note yogurt is a slider for me unless I have mix-ins, like walnuts, a little gluten-free Cereal, etc. I need something to chew on in order to achieve satiety (again, links below helped me understand all of this). No sliders, that's my rule. My other rule is eat when I'm hungry and don't eat if I'm not hungry. I never eat Breakfast now -- all that most important meal of the day blah-blah-blah. That's over for me.
  2. I didn't develop lactose intolerance as much as I developed an intolerance of sugars and fats, which includes milk fat. So, while I can drink skim milk, I can't drink any milk that has fat in it. I'm usually fine with yogurts, but I can't eat eggs. It's odd what your sleeve does or doesn't end up liking. It may just be that your stomach is trying to adjust to what you're eating and since most of what you're consuming is liquid, some diarrhea has resulted. Hope you feel better!
  3. Hi there! I'm 10 days out and I'm having diarrhea since Wednesday (5 days). I'm following a diet that requires to drink milk or yogurt 6x a day. I'm wondering if I developed lactose intolerance. I'm seeing my nutritionist tomorrow morning but I was wondering if it's common to develop this disease after WLS. Did anyone develop it?

    June 30th Sleevers?

Ok...I feel crappy for talking about yogurts when you can't have them yet. I'm sorry. I mostly eat broth because I prefer salty but the yogurts are helping me mix it up a bit. I do have a good tip for a tasty soup though. If you can get some unjury chicken Soup Protein it tastes awesome mixed with any chicken broth or chicken noodle soup (especially Lipton chicken noodle soup) instead of Water. Even better if you add a couple spoons of cream of chicken. Just be sure to strain out all the noodles and chicken chunks. It is sooo satisfying to have a different thicker flavor and yet still a clear liquid as long as you don't overdo the cream of chicken. Also, so sorry you aren't feeling so great. I hope you squeeze in a nap today. Any weight loss to be happy about yet? Or avoiding the scale until your first weigh-in?

@@Hope41 Protein!! You have to get in the habit of eating all your protein first (instead of mixing or going for the carbs first). Add unflavored protein powder to your morning meal (into yogurt works). I was banded for 5 years, just had it removed last week and doing the sleeve in Sept. I only lost 40lbs and could never be filled more than 3.5cc in a 10cc band due to severe restriction. I feel your pain but i also know I didn't follow perfectly. Just from personal experience, stick to the protein first and foremost and make sure you really are getting at least 64oz a day. Oh and water water water!! Add lemon if you struggle. Good luck!

    June 30th Sleevers?

I'm pretty puny today too. But I woke up in the middle of the night coughing and wasn't able to go back to sleep. I'm not allowed to have yogurt yet???? I love yogurt. I have until next Wednesday on Soups, juices, and Popsicles.

    June 30th Sleevers?

So, how is everyone doing on our 5th day post-op? My energy is a bit low and still haven't been able to go for walks outside. I get tired, sweaty and shaky just standing too long or walking around my house and cleaning. I'm enjoying yogurts though I used to hate them and still struggling to keep sipping all day to get fluids in. I still have no clue when I've eaten enough because I have to stop before 2oz since I'm constantly full... but on the very bright side I'm down 14lbs as of this morning and under 300lbs!! Woohoo!

    Cottage cheese question

All diet guidelines are different. I can't have dairy products until the six month mark. For me that means no yogurt, milk, cottage cheese, and most cheeses except low fat cheese sticks and then only one a day. I really miss yogurt with a little organic honey and cottage cheese. I am three months out from surgery.
  9. HEY EVERYONE! I started my journey June 1 and was on liquid diet until day of surgery which was June 24. I lost 28 pounds during that time and since surgery I have lost 13 pounds (I'm 11 days post op). The first couple of days the water I retained from IV fluids flew off and I lost about 6 additional pounds in 2 days. After that I had a 3 pound loss then a 2 pound loss and continued until I was losing about a pound. Yesterday I was switched to mushy food and I had my regular protein shake, water, a bite or two of plain avocado. A tiny piece of mozzarella cheese, water, Gatorade, water an oz of yogurt, water, and another piece of cheese. And then water and my vitamins in the evening. I weighed myself this morning and I didn't lose anything, I actually gained 3 oz. Did I eat too much yesterday? What is going on?!?

    I wish I knew.....

I hear you. Really haven't found a Protein Bar that doesn't have that awful "wang" taste afterward! I try to always carry BOOST shakes with me in my purse, and wherever I'm at, if I start to feel shaky or just tempted to hit McDonald's, I'll get some ice and drink it. (They don't have to be refrigerated) But I struggle too, because it's just me at home and I work nights to boot! I try to keep cheese on hand, the individual serving kind, and lots of yogurt. It's hard though, when you want a real meal in a hurry. I keep/pack in my lunch the individual oatmeal too. There's one, (a banana flavor) that is 10 grams) I have caved recently and bought frozen pre-cooked chicken-strips, but I did gain this week, and I think they are the culprit because they're breaded. I'm almost disappointed that I can tolerate all my foods now, lol.
  11. I have the same issues.... I started at 210 - down to 160 and now I am "stuck". Or at leastI feel stuck. I think reality is that I am not being strict enough on my diet. Daytime is SO easy. But from 7pm on, all I can think about is eating/grazing. I try to stay away from carbs. I eat low fat string cheese, greek yogurt, sugar free popsicles, stuff that is higher in protein, but I eat every 30 minutes from about 9pm until I go to bed around midnight. I need to get a better control of my snacking and i MUST exercise. My goal weight is 150, but I will never make it if I keep snacking like this. I also have fears that I am going to ruin the procedure and get fat again. We need to keep reading here to realize that we arenot alone in our stuggles. I think it helps motivate us to know that we are not the only ones that struggle with how we used to eat. BUT... for the summer, lets focus on the positive. Like the fact that or the first time I got to buy a cute bathing suit instead of the suit that hides the most rolls! I have gone from a size 18 to a size 10 or 12. That makes a huge difference in the cuteness of the summertime clothes! That is my reward. Next step, goal weight by my surgiversary on 9/24. I WILL MAKE IT. Thanks to all of you that share your stories, triumphs and struggles! We are all amazing!
  12. It's crazy how different everyone's eating regimen is. Since I got home from the hospital I've been on a liquid diet which has consisted mostly of 1oz of something every 15 minutes but 2 of those have to be water or a water substitute and the other 2 can be something like: sf jello, sf pudding, soups (liquid or creamy no chunks), protein shakes, cream of wheat, malt-o-meal, yogurt, etc. Then when I see my doctor on my 2 week follow up he will let me know if I can start soft foods. Scrambled eggs here I come! ???? I can't complain though in 6 days I've lost 15 pounds. woohoo!! How are you doing on weight loss?
  13. @@honeyflowers that's just baby cheating. My pre op diet was only 3 days, juices, broth, low fat yogurt and cottage cheese etc. 2nd night I made a teeny tiny portion of spaghetti. I was ok! My doctor said the purpose is to shrink your liver so it doesn't get in the way of your stomach. The way to blow it would be eating a chicken fried steak or slices of pizza. Just keep at it!

    My biggest fear with VSG

At 18 months out I eat a quest bar and drink a large (24oz) protein smoothie every day. That's 50-60g protein right there. The steak, jerky, chicken, fish, pork, seafood, cheese, Greek yogurt, edamame, burger, elk, ham, beans, cottage cheese, eggs, sausage, turkey, tuna, etc. that I then eat easily shoots me over my protein goals. It also gives me the freedom to eat plenty of fruits, grains and veggies with my meals. Not JUST protein.

    I need protein

Make cream of chicken soup. Cook a chicken breast and put it in the nutra bullet/vitamix with a little milk or yogurt. Thin it out with chicken or veg broth.
  18. Oops...the unflavored can be put in just about anything. Yogurt, any type of juice/crystal light/flavored water, broth, soup, etc. They have recipes on Unjury.com for popcyxle a and protein jello.

Doing this by myself - terrified!

You should be fine. I had a ride home from surgery, and that was it. No help more than that. Here are some things I did to make things easier on myself... My kitchen was ready. I had these tiny little tupperware (condiment sized) and I pre-measured broth and Water into those. I would get them set up in the morning and it was easy to keep track of my consumption. I also had all my med's lined up and ready for the day, Immediatly post-op I had my living room set up...sofa was ready with lots of pillows, tv ready, bathroom.... I had the frige ready for stage two..pureed. I bought boxed Soups, yogurt, and whatever else I thought of that I may need. I really wanted to avoid grocery shopping with my new sleeve so I prepared as much as possible. My ex kept the kids for about three days after my surgery. I was fine from that point on. Not much recovery time. Mostly it was food prep. The MOST important thing was realizing that my number One go-to coping skill (eating) was non-existent. So my big advise would be to not forget about lining up a few new ways of dealing with stress. Good luck on your journey!! The early days go by quick. The recovery isn't that bad. You can do it alone with some prep work.
  21. On the go ideas people have recommended to me are string cheese, handful of nuts, dried fruits, single serving yogurts, cottage cheese, and apple sauces. Also heard people eating beef jerky but that seem like it would hurt my stomach. I haven't gone back to work yet so I'm worried about on the go eating also.

Humane way to take crushed pills?

Smaller pills I swallow. Larger ones I crush and mix with plain yogurt. It seems to be working.

    June Sleevers!

No, but I can eat a whole Greek yogurt 6 oz all at once. Does anybody like this . I follow the diet, but never have pain. I feel full but it seems I get more fluids and foods in. I'm not trying to, I just noticed a difference in other peoples post.

    June 30th Sleevers?

I only got in 2 oz of strawberry low fat yogurt, 2 oz of G2, 2oz of broth with a quarter scoop of protein and 6oz of water. Not even close to the recommended daily protein or fluid intake. Don't know how I'm gonna do this. I don't wanna eat or drink at all. Never thought I'd hate the idea of food and drink so much. I don't even know how to tell if I'm full cuz I constantly feel full and I'm force feeding myself. Thought I was doing good this morning until I realized how little I consumed. Hope tomorrow is better.I feel the same way - it's like I feel so bloated I may pop! Question: do yall get over heated really quickly? And does anyone feel pain when the take a deep breath? I did laundry today. Stood for 30 minutes folding and started sweating profusely and got shaky I think it was because I haven't really consumed enough of anything to have energy to move. My body must have quickly used up the vitamins and left me with nothing to function with. But oddly when I'm sitting still I am freezing. Constantly have to stay covered. So strange. Lol. But I do have the deep breath issue. Hurts most by my biggest incision and in my left rib cage. Does feel like muscle strain. I remember feeling the same after my two other surgeries years ago. Took a long while for the muscles to heal. Don't hesitate to ask your doctor if it gets unbearable.
