http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/351046-embrace-the-stall/ Your body is still traumatized and pumped full of fluids and meds from surgery and usually you're lucky not to gain weight within the first week to 10 days. And the first stall usually hits around your third week. Your body has to take pauses every once in a while. No one loses weight steadily. Think of it as it needing a small rest break while it figures out whether this lower calorie/low carb thing is going to be permanent... it is? Well okay, guess we'll drop another few pounds and see what you're doing then. Still low cal/carb and adding in exercise? Well maybe it's time to build a bit of muscle and drop some fat so you won't see the numbers on the scale drop but you'll notice the difference in your clothing since a fat is way more bulky than lean muscle. Rinse and repeat for the next year with varying lengths of time spend in stalls. You'll be fine. Do read Inner Surfer Girl's post about Embracing the Stall and it will all make sense.

Hi! I had my band put in on July 28th and a few weeks later developed an infection. Unfortunately, the infection would not resolve and the band was removed on September 26. I just went to my surgeon for a follow up appointment. He told me that the infection wasn't bad but because it wouldn't clear up it was necessary to remove the band. He is confident that the infection is completely gone and has said he will put the band back in whenever I want. I am wondering how soon is too soon. I really miss having the band and the restriction it offered me (I had a fill during surgery and had pretty good restriction - not perfect but pretty good). Has anyone had the band out and then had it put back in again very quickly afterwards? Initially I thought I was going to have to wait until January but now I am hoping for maybe early November? That will give me 5 weeks recovery and 6 weeks before I leave for my Christmas holiday. Does that sound reasonable? Has anyone does this that quickly? It'll be 3 surgeries in just over 3 months. Thanks for your replies!

Hey guys my surgery date is scheduled for 2/29. I'm so nervous and excited. Having two teen boys I am looking for tips on savings my first few weeks after surgery when I am on protein. What's the best shakes to get the most protein. Any recipes for shakes that don't taste horrible and had lots of protein? Thanks

I got a date of January 5th too, but the lady at the hospital told me she is gonna call next week or by the 29th with a definite time. So when she calls back with a time that's when I start my diet. It's so real right now!!!!

8 months out & stalled. Can I make my goal weight?
susieq replied to susieq's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do 2 miles on the treadmill four times a week. I'm upping it to 5, but don't know if I can do the treadmill more than that. Thinking about adding some kind of dance class, but I don't think I'm ready for Zumba. I was thinking something fun like line dancing. I could probably eat less fruit, but I'm really not eating bad carbs. I am also still guilty of not taking in enough liquids. Can that make that much of a difference? -
8 months out & stalled. Can I make my goal weight?
Loooou replied to susieq's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh yeah liquids makes huge difference dear.. Water is my only way -when I had the band and stalled for too long - to flush out all the extra water and bad stuff in my body.. really live like a fish! to be able to break this stall.. how many fruits are having daily? I will try to shake things up if I was in ur place:) - If u are doing 2 miles and trying for more just try adding intensity instead.. interval training is also great. Also u can try the elliptical instead of the treadmill. - If u are logging ur food intake take a second look, there must be something triggering ur weight loss. sometimes it is the tiniest thing! for me it was the extra latte I get. Congrats on ur NSV!!! I am sure u have always been pretty! -

Glad to help too. I am only 6 weeks post op with one fill -
I am 2 weeks and a day out today and this is the first day that my pain hasn't bothered me. In the beginning whenever I got from a seated position or from bed it felt like my body was ripping apart. That ripping apart feeling graduated to a burning feeling instead of ripping. Yesterday was still burning and so is today, but not as extreme. When you are experiencing that pain it is as though time is standing still and it is never going to stop, believe me, I know. It does lessen, and that is a good thing. I was finally able to lay on my side with a body pillow next to my stomach. I am only very recently able to lay on my left side, which is my problem (pain) side. It does get better as the days go by. Some days went backwards, but then were better the next day...

Four-Year Bandiversary
nomorejellybelly replied to nomorejellybelly's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks everyone!! Pink Dahlia, I love what you said about 'fabulous' weighing 20lbs. That's an awesome line. I may have to borrow that. My big dog is such a sweetheart. I love him to death. I love when he tries to be a lap dog (that's when I call him a 'Laprador'). 2muchfun, it does feel good. I see 'before' pictures of myself and it disgusts me. I cannot believe I let myself get so big. My weight really held me back (that a the dead weight ex-husband I dropped three years ago this month). I'm hoping to get out and do more, since I'm feeling better about myself. I'm going to try and meet more people. Good luck to everyone. -
Going Out To Eat Last Time For Awhile!

Surgery 2-6 here too! Only a week left!! -
I've been struggling all week so far. No clue what the problem is. I even slept 7 hours last night, which is practically unheard of. I'm guessing it's because I haven't taken my Ambien and haven't had a really deep sleep in about a week.

Hunger 2 weeks after surgery. Which foods help?
thisismyyear replied to jessyk698's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started having some hunger, and did have a few days that I felt i could eat more. I REALLY have to say though, that as crazy as it sounded to me when people said it, it is really true that if you take your antacid meds ,it helps the hunger stop!!! It is really your stomach acid making you feel hungry. Plus you do need to eat enough:) and that is hard when you aren't hungry!! All in all at almost 10 weeks out, it is a learning game daily!! -
Hunger 2 weeks after surgery. Which foods help?
Healthier2day1227 replied to jessyk698's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know it may sound weird, but I was hungrier in my first two weeks than I am now. I really believe it is stomach acid and your healing stomach that mimics hunger in the beginning. Hang in there! -

Its time! I finally broke up with food!
danni#L posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Today I am 25 days post op! Yes! I have most certainly struggled the first 2 weeks and today I think I made ground breaking progress for the first time in my life!!!! My body image and looks have always been a concern my entire life. I was pushed into modelling as a child and then came all the food issues and insecurities. It wasn't until I had paid modelling jobs that my weight became an issue. I was never fat but athletic and it wasn't until the company I was doing catalog work for as a child stopped calling me back for more work. My mother told me that it must have been because I looked fat in the last catalogue and if I would stop eating junk food I wouldn't have been "sacked" from my job. i was 12 years Old! Being told not to have any treats ever whilst my 3 siblings did I felt punished. I have had the most unhealthy relationship with food because of this. Because I felt like I was missing out, and I was not allowed to eat junk of any kind, I did it in secret and felt better about the fact I wasn't missing out and felt joy and happiness comforting my self. This made me into the emotional closet eater I am today.. Well not today but until a few weeks ago and I had this operation that changed my life and I know it's just the beginning. I have had the most unhealthy relationship with food... and it wasn't until 25 days ago did I break up with it. Feeling full makes me content.. That's the feeling food has always given me.. No matter what the emotion, food has been there for me. Tonight I had my family order gourmet pizza. I had 1 piece and that was it. I didn't eat the base.. just the topping. (Spinach feta pumpkin and garlic). This may sound insignificant to everyone else but my band made me feel full and food has not been an obsession or a comfort any more!!! I would have comsumed 3/4 of a pizza before this op. Food is a source of fuel and consumed for a purpose. i now Eat to live as apposed to live to eat! Thanks to my new accessory (my belly bangle lol) I have lost that emotional attachment to food. I feel like I have control for the first time in my life! Loosing that gilt and horrible feeling i had to food is like a tonne lifted off of my chest!! If anyone else has suffered from this type of eating disorder and is unsure as to if they want to have this operation, please do yourself a favour and talk to your dr about it. I wish I had have done this ages ago. -

Hi Hope, I had my smeinar on 4/15/09 and was I was banded on 6/25/09 and it has been great. Easy recovery, only been really hungry 2 days since my surgery and I was able to work through it. 3 weeks post op and down 21 lbs. I'm thrilled! I read the pre and post-op message boards from my seminar to the night before surgery and learned so much information. Read and ask questions and hopefully you will have a wonderfully journey! Good luck -

Briefs 199 I felt exactly the same way as you did. On the weeks and days leading up to my pre op diet I felt like I needed to eat everything that I wouldn't be able to eat again after surgery. The last 3 days before the pre op diet begin I started feeling sick of food. It was out of hand. So now I'm on the pre op diet day 3 and I've had headaches each after noon so had to take some Tylenol. But I'm allowed to have four protein shakes a day , 1 protein bar, a one to one and a half cup meal of protein and produce. So it's not so bad but it's definitely a calorie cut from what I was eating and I guess my body is adjusting that's why I have the headaches. -
First off I wanted to ask a question. My Dr told me my band is empty and they dont fill it until 6 weeks post op. I just started mushies but feel like I can eat like I did before the banding:eek: I have no restriction. Is this normal???

Why can I eat so much!!!!
browneyes1997 replied to fatgirlinNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm feeling ya! I am 5 weeks post-op and I had my first fill yesterday. I feel fine. I was only able to eat up to 8 oz of food, but I started to get very hungry before my fill, I also ate 6 times a day. But I lost 13 lbs. So don't worry about it. The change will come. But something I noticed was that because I felt normal, I was eating to fast so I slowed way down, and that helped. I take half and hour to eat a meal. And the full switch comes on.
