The process to get to surgery

I agree and mine is a revision from a band so I would have hoped it would go quicker. Saw my surgeon on 18 Sept. He suggested a revision to RNY and I was given all the info and costings. Did some research , discussed it with hubby and decided I want to go ahead so called his office a week later to ask what the process was. Apparently I have to see the surgeon again before I can be given a date, I was hoping that I would at least be given a provisional date as I like to be organised and know whats what. Seeing him on 29th Oct and the NUT a day later. Did manage to get a referral for the preop consult and that Dr had a cancellation so got in on the same day. That was a bit weird, I was expecting the ECG but hadn't been warned he would need to look at my armpit! So hoping that I get a date soon.
  2. I was wondering if anyone has had a revision done in Mexico? I had the gastric sleeve done 10 years ago. I have unfortunately gained back all the weight. I am looking for the best bariatric surgeon in Mexico to do a revision for me. But, there is so much info out there I dont know what to believe. If you have had a revision of any kind done by a surgeon in Mexico can you please let me know where and who you selected? If you are pleased? Thank you so much.
  3. well...the horrid weather in the Midwest caught up with me. I was walking with my snowblower today and slipped on the icy road. As I fell, I could feel one leg going forward and the other twisting behind me. As I twisted and fell to the street, I could feel my right knee dislocate. (I know how it feels, it's happened three other times.) After the firefighters got me to my feet and into the house (I refused to go to the hospital because I have no insurance) I took some liquid Extra Strength Tylenol and started in with the ice packs. However, this is the worst it's ever been. I have a very large muscle or tendon tear on the inside of my right knee area. It's really swollen and extremely painful. I remember when it dislocated four years ago they gave me 3 shots of morphine in the ambulance, followed by dilaudid (sp) at the ER. None of that this time and the injury is definitely worse this time. I'm a bit over 3 weeks since my revision surgery....and needing to know what I can take for the pain and inflammation. I'm a Dr. Aceves Patient and I emailed Gaby to get their advice, but in the meantime I'd like to hear from any of the long time sleevers that can help. I have Vicodin here which has helped in the past when this happened, just not sure if I should take it.

    6 Days Out!

Hi all! I had my sleeve done Wed 6/3. I guess it would be called a revision since I had the band in 2007 had problems from 2012-14 which led to an emergency removal surgery in March 2014 cuz the tubing to the port got freakishly entangled in my small intestine causing dr. to remove 20% of the intestines and I also had abdominal lesions. The dr had to cut me open down the middle to get all this fixed up. Fast forward a yr later I was 20 lbs heavier then before the band, swollen ankles, bad lower back and knee pain, and above all about 4 abdominal hernias! I only was able to lose weight if I practically starved myself! I told my dr I was ready to do the sleeve in Feb. He warned me that because of the other stomach surgeries the scar tissue may b too thick and hard to get thru to my stomach laparoscopically and might have to cut me open again! Well thank God my Dr is the best cuz he spent over 2hrs freeing up scar tissue to get to my stomach! Other doctors may have taken the easier route but he didn't! He took the delicate time and managed! I was nauseous the first 3 days, kept heaving and gaging up. I started feeling better got discharged fri Eve but they had to leave the drain coming out of my stomach to drain the bloods and fluids from reopening the scars inside me. I still have incision pain, can't bend, and obviously can't go much anywhere because of the blood bottle hanging from my side (did I mention it bleeds thru the gauze wen I move to much?) just wondering if anyone has left the hospital with a drain? Also wondering if anyone felt or feels hungry still? Good luck to everyone and answers and stories are greatly appreciated! Thanks!????

    Lab Rats

Hi chowchows, sorry, I only just noticed your question today when someone else replied to this thread. For the moment I'm done with plication - it just doesn't work as far as I'm concerned. I've still not fully paid off my plication so I'm holding off doing anything right now. Sarah Elsekhawy (over on the VST board) got revised from GPS to VSG this week. She was a year out from her GPS and it just didn't work for her either. Sarah posted 2 days after getting sleeved and she was sounding really well. She said that to that point VSG didn't hurt more than GPS.
  7. Your post is amazing!! Even if just one person reads this and realizes that Tijuana, Mexico is the best option for them, would make the world of difference between getting or not getting WLS. My hubby just went thru BeLiteWeight and we went to Juarez, Mexico, and our experience was NOT at all like yours. His Surgeon was pretty good, but in was there early in the morning and didn't leave until 9:30 or 10:00pm. He was doing surgery's all day back to back. We had a very bad experience in 2013 when his Lap Band malfunctioned and had eroded into his liver so I was kind of on high alert while I was waiting for someone to come let me know how he was. His DR had told me to wait in his room and he would come let me know how he was...he didn't!! I was so upset, it seemed like it was going to be just like his failed revision in which he almost died. Just when I was ready to go and find out something they wheeled him back to his room. The hospital wasn't quite up to par. The staff didn't speak English much. That was a huge problem. Anyway, I so wish he would have used BARIATRICPAL!!!!! He had looked into this site but he thought that with the other outfit being higher in their price that he would have better care. NOT!! The old saying YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR didn't work for him. He wanted and needed the RNY but his right side was solid scar tissue from the BAND and the failed revision. Again so happy you both had such a great experience!! Take care
  8. Sad to report that Dr. Aceves was unable to do the revision at the same time. 90% of my band had eroded into the stomach, very bad erosion, Dr Aceves did a great job removing the band and reparing the stomach and said after about 6 months of healing the sleeve will be no problem. I trust his opinion. This guy and his staff are extremely professional.
  9. That is what I am hoping also. I bounced back really quick after my lapband and my csection. Good luck on your revision!
  10. I am having the revision 8/19 and have 12 month and 4 year old boys! I did ask the dr. About my lifting restriction and he said 20 lb ( which is what my little one weighs). We do have a nanny, but she is not a live in, and my husband works and travels a lot. Hopefully I will recover from the bypass as quickly as I did from the lapband back in 2005. Good luck to you!
  11. 2days till band revision and sleeved
  12. I’m meeting with surgeon on Tuesday to talk about revision to rny. Question for those how have Medicaid (WellCare) did you have todo the 6 month diet? I have reflux and hiatal hernia that has to be repaired also.
  13. My appointment with the surgeon himself, we just went over the surgery. He mentioned which type he'd recommend given my weight and co-morbidities. Then he went over what the surgery itself involved and asked if I had any other questions. Was very short and to the point. Now, that same day I also spoke with a nurse and dietician. The nurse asked some more probing questions about my acid reflux and ended up ordering an endoscopy since I was self-pay (and therefore couldn't afford revision if I got sleeve and it made things worse). We also went over pre and post-op expectations, as well as what to expect during the hospital stay.
  14. @@prez You write about failure, but you can't fail unless you give up. Since you wrote on this forum maybe that means you might not be ready to give up yet. I could ask you all the obvious questions, but I'm not going to. I'll ask this one though, have you considered a revision from sleeve to bypass? Would that be an option you would be interested in?
  15. Im hoping i dont need a revision surgery as well. They talked abouta suture but if it fails will cause more complications. I just want to do what fixes the issues
  16. I had the sleeve in 2012. SW 268. I’m 5’2. I got down to 180lbs an kept it there until 2016 when I had a miscarriage, then struggled with infertility. In 2020 I welcomed a baby boy during the pandemic and well all that combined I’ve gained all my weight back 😞 I feel like a failure. My insurance covers revisions but I don’t know the specifics that are required. In 2019 I had my gallbladder removed and I was diagnosed with NASH at that time. Is NASH considered a comorbidity? Or medical complication? I haven’t been diagnosed with GERD but I know I have it (I choke in acid every night), so I am hopeful I can get an official diagnosis for a revision. I’ve tried going back to the basics and restricting calories and all the things but the weight just piled on. Anyone in the same boat?

8 Weeks Out, Still Having Issues

I forgot to say I'm also a revision. Band placed 2007, lost about 60lbs but had issues with sliming, not being able to eat meat, salad, veggies so it was removed in 2010. I gained back 40 lbs & then was sleeved 7/9/2012.
  18. Hey Susan, I had my lapband for 8 years. Started having trouble the last 3 years. I finally got up the courage to go back to the doctor in May this year. Turned out the band was too tight and I had a dilated esophagus. My doctor unfilled the band on my first appointment and told me I needed to wait 30 days to see if the swelling would go down. He told me if the esophagus returned to normal in 30 days that I could have revision surgery right away. Everything moved very quickly. The esophagus returned to normal and I ended up having revision surgery by the end of July. The lapband came out, a hernia was fixed, and the RnY was performed all at the same time. There was some swelling and scarring where the lapband was attached, but otherwise the surgery went well. The surgery took about 3 hours. I was in the hospital for 3 days. The surgery was more difficult to recover from than the lapband...mainly due to the length of time I was under. Gas pain was the main issue that caused me discomfort. It's been 2 1/2 months since the revision and I feel great. I've had no complications and it's way easier to eat healthy now.

    Starting the process

Welcome! I also had complications with lap band and will be getting my sleeve revision hopefully in the next 4-6 weeks. Good luck to you!
  20. I'm still getting anxiety about eating with the sleeve. Sometimes at work after lunch I get a stomach ache after. I'm scared to go to a restaurant. I have a dinner to attend in May and I'm nervous. I was revised on 2/4. I want to get past this so I can start going out again
  21. I was getting really bad chest pains the last year of my band, the doctor took some saline out and I got immediate relief. Your symptoms remind me of what I had before band surgery and it turned out to be a hiatel hernia. As far as insurance, some will only cover 1 in a lifetime. My company had switched insurance since my band so I was able to get revision but they only covered 80%. Many also require to be at a certain BMI to qualify. I would definitely call them to go over the requirements but in the meantime, have some saline removed.
  22. You are a band to sleeve patient right? I think just from being here and reading so much that revision patients sleeves work somewhat differently sometimes resulting in an easier time at eating and a somewhat slower loss. Is it because of the band or the typical lower BMI of band patients? I don't know... But don't panic or feel bad I'm sure the weight will come off. You may just have to work it a little harder.
  23. Tigerbelle, I did have a NUT consultation. But I'm also self-pay via Mexico. I can email the nutritionist at any time, but can't actually go see her. I'm just not sure what I'd say to her...hey, I feel fine, don't have any problems with food or Water, just wish I were losing! She's going to tell me stuff I already know...aim for 1-2 lbs/week, track the calories/protein, drink 8 glasses of water/day, etc... Health-wise, I feel fine! That's kind of scary, too...LOL, as in, I don't feel like I've had the sleeve done at all....maybe I dreamed it? Laura, yes, I'm a revision patient. I need to lose 25 lbs to get back to my original goal...but ideally, would like to go 10-15 past that. So not a whole lot to lose. I do think that my band habits help...I already tend to chew food well, eat slowly, etc. I'm hoping that I'll start feeling more positive now that I'm back home. It's a lot easier to track calories and plan food.

    port issues???

I had a port issue and had to have it restitched in. The port revision surgery was pretty simple and fairly easy to recover from.
  25. @PrettySmartChic some OP have sad/bad results during/from surgeries it is "good/ok to hear those problems. its true that everything is not all roses. BUT there are many OP that write how happy they are unfortunately, the bad stories frequently stick/stand out to OP. OP don't always write about the good - many more OP write their bad situations to vent/tell their stories/look for advice - and just want a couple of ears to listen to them. In my case, as a 6+ year GOAL/vet - life with my weight goes terrific. NEVER had any issues. no revision Fluctuate/maintain - but all is good. 105 lbs down I had my sleeve one month before i was 58 years OLD. Now i'm 64 years YOUNG. As most OP - I wish i had my surgery years earlier. Don't dwell on the bad stories - sooooo many people are happy and thriving good luck to you - follow the rules - you'll be successful/happy too kathy
