how long is the Gastric Sleeve surgery ?
LuckOtheIrish replied to boosh10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in and out (of surgery) in 1.5 hours, for Band removal and revision to sleeve. Very fortunate to have not had much scar tissue, and no hernia to repair. -
I'm scheduled for 5/28. Went through a 2 hour preop class today. My daughter in law had band to sleeve revision surgery last Wednesday (it was unanticipated). I feel pretty prepared for what to expect since I took care of my DIL and the nurses doing the education for my program are very detailed on what is going to happen before, during, and immediately following surgery. I've already purchased the stage 2 foods since I will be on stage 2 for 2 weeks. I'm sure I'll be more anxious next week. Good luck to all.

Alternative to NSAIDS?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to jaxmom1974's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I need to revise this: according to my Drs. Visit today, the don't allow Tramadol in the first six weeks, so if you are in that timeframe you may want to stick with Tylenol. -
Gastric Sleeve to MGB in 18 days
Band07 replied to Manuel Lopez Ganoza's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Hi there ! Wow, you've been through a lot in a short time !! I'm glad you are doing better. I had my MGB on 4/23 I was a revision from the sleeve which was a revision from the band (yep, 3 for me). Your first question is hard to answer because your sleeve was so new and also because the first part of the MGB is basically the sleeve. In other words your experience will be different than mine because I was a sleeve patient for 2 years. I would guess your experience will be exactly like that of an MGB patient since essentially that's what you had only in a 2 step process. In fact I once read that Dr. Rutledge commented that he if had performed 100 MGBs then he had performed 100 gastric sleeves. My experience is different because restrictive procedures are not new to my body and my portion size is much larger than yours will be. As far as juicing, I'm a huge fan !! I have a breville and I love Joe Cross ! Just be aware of your fruits, too much sugar even natural sugars may not agree with your new insides and could cause dumping. The other thing is you won't get much protein from juicing and it may not keep you full long so I would prob supplement with it and not make it a primary form of nutrition. Hope this helps !! -
Did anyone like the band better?
camkids replied to OldMomOf3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Nope! My only regret is that I waited so long. I have had the "effects" of a slipped band for about 2 years...and today is 2 weeks post-op for my revision. I'm just getting to advance my diet to pureed today...haven't had any heartburn, "stuck" feeling, am able to sleep with my head completely flat... Good luck with your surgery. -
Recovery from Band Removal vs. Sleeve Surgery?
Bndtoslv replied to Bndtoslv's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@CowgirlJane what was your success with the band? I was very successful 100% EWL until kids and complications. I struggle with a fear that as a band revision patient I will not be as successful…. I see these older posts about "slow losing" and I worry that I have damaged my esophagus and I will not feel the restriction. This, despite my surgeon and GI doctor performing testing and assuring me that "there is no reason not to get the sleeve"! I had a nightmare about it last night - surgery is at end of June! -
Welcome to the Mini Gastric Bypass (Omega Loop) Surgery Forum!
Alex Brecher replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I'm very surprised your surgeon revised you to a gastric sleeve after band removal due to acid reflux. Acid reflux is a contraindication for gastric sleeve surgery. They should have gone right to the gastric bypass or the Mini gastric bypass. Good luck on your Pandescopy and surgery! Please keep us updated. -
I am finally getting my band removed in June. I have had year after year of issues and am VERY happy to be DONE with the band. I want to revise to the sleeve... but my surgeon is not in favor of that. He recommends RNY. He said the success rate with the sleeve after banding is not as high as with revision to RNY. He cites scar tissue as the main reason... with RNY the portion of the stomach with scar tissue is removed. He also thinks the added tool of malabsorption is a big plus. I have decided to wait 6 months after removal before revising to another surgery. That is the length of time he recommended before he would consider a sleeve revision. I was positive I wanted the sleeve... now I am not so sure. Was anyone else pressured to choose RNY and still went forward with the sleeve and are happy they stuck with their gut? I initially lost 100 pounds with the band... regained because of complications. Then lost the 100 again after band re-positioning... regained because of complications again. I have been without fill now since Jan 2014 and am back to my pre surgery weight. I feel like the sleeve will work for me. I was able to work my tool... when IT wasn't malfunctioning. RNY scares the crap out of me. I have no major medical issues other than PCOS and sleep apnea. I have a 20 month old son and I need to be here for him.

I had the band done 5 years ago and lost 80 lbs. In the beginning I always wanted for him to add fills and he wouldn't till I mastered it.I admire this. He takes the time to see you. I have been having problems the last year and I am getting the revision surgery to the sleeve on June 16.I found out he trained some other top band sleeve surgeons. -

Band to sleeve in one procedure
iamshazza replied to ette16's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Found out I would have to go through a 6 week program and pay out around $300+ and then MAYBE my insurance would cover the revision surgery from band to sleeve. So I'm still on the fence about what I will do. I'm trying to buy a house and save money and then I'll have to move in October, so spending that kind of money right now isn't really ideal for me so I thought I might wait until next year as long as the gallbladder doesn't give me any more fits. I did get another fill in my band. I have more trouble with more foods now, but I'm losing weight, so I'm reluctant to say anything. I go back in a couple weeks anyway. I can eat solid foods, but not a lot and if I'm not careful it's painful I think when it's hitting the band and trying to pass through, but it is only a short burst of sharp pain. I just have to remember to be careful. This is the best I've done - as far as losing weight - with the band since the first week post op. -
May Sleevers...where are you?
NoMoBand replied to bvenegas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Want2surf, I had band to sleeve revision also on same day that you did. If you don't mind me asking, how different did you find this surgery from the lapband? Of course, the port removal was a bit more painful, but, just curious overall how did the surgery recovery, diet, etc. differ for you. I started the pureed stuff today and I hurt a little bit when I had scrambled eggs. I think the mistake I made was that the scrambled eggs were on the dry side. I also made a huge mistake and tried 1/4 cup of sugar free ice cream and I think I know what dumping syndrome is all about - won't do that again!! jake -
ANY KAISER PERMANENTE SLEEVERS?
Want2surf replied to brittneywlsj's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had surgery 5/4. I had low BMI and an existing lap band that I needed to have removed and revised to a sleeve . They still required me to go through the program. So...12 weeks of classes with a 2 week delay because of the holidays. Then labs, evaluation by Bariatrics doctor and evaluation by family therapist and finally pre op evaluation with the surgeon. Things moved quickly after classes ended. I had surgery 2 months after classes ended and others in my class got done a few weeks sooner than I did. I got delayed because my PMD wouldn't sign off without seeing me in person and it took awhile to get an appointment with her. We were told we could be denied if we gained weight. Most people in my class lost weight because they were motivated and really trying hard. Delays can result because of things like low iron. -
May Sleevers...where are you?
Want2surf replied to bvenegas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had band to sleeve revision on May 4. I'm 14 days out. First day off liquids and on puréed foods. Doing great! -
I'm planning on revising to the sleeve. I've had problems with my band with vomiting. Not sure if it's from not chewing appropriately or what. But I was just wondering if you don't chew well with the sleeve does it cause problems? I have a class 3 malocclusion. Basically my teeth don't meet in the back and I literally have to push my lower jaw forward to chew. Sometimes I feel this causes problems with me chewing well. So I was just wondering if this will cause problems with the sleeve? I may try to ask my surgeon tomorrow if I remember but I wanted some input from people who have the sleeve TIA

Everyone loses at different rates. I lost 23 lb in first month. It the 3 week stahl and the scale just started moving for me again. I am 6 weeks post-op tomorrow. Oh I forgot I had revision from lap band to bypass.

7 weeks postop and not losing very much.
jdaughe5 replied to jules44's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tomorrow will be 6 weeks for me. I revised from band to bypass. I lost the first 20lb in my first 3 weeks then nothing for 2 weeks. I kept up with the fluids which seems to be the hard part for everyone. Got my protein in and the scale started moving again. ????????I'm not in a huge hurry to lose so much so fast but if it happens then great if not I'm ok with that too, just as long as I keep moving toward goal. I just need to figure out how to eat and get fluids. It seems that when I am trying to get calories in and get fluids in I tend to feel like crap. I'm not hungry at all.., so I try to schedule my meals and usually feel blah.. After eating. I have made it priority for the protein and fluids not so much on the calories for now. I see my Dr on 5/20 and will discuss the yuck feeling when I eat. Best of luck & keep your head up. The scale will start moving again! -
New to this site! Set to be sleeve 6-11-15.
Jess55 replied to heartonmysleeve61115's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm hoping I can get approved in time for a June 8th date. I'm trying to revise from the band and I go back to my doc tomorrow after last going he told me to see the cardiologist and pulmonologist and my pcp. I already have that week off of work from vacation time I had left. If I can't get approved for that week I probably will have to wait until July or August when I can get another week off of work without actually telling my job in having surgery. My supervisor/friend knows I have the band and I don't feel like telling him yet that it's failed. -
Love my surgeon, hate his office
SleeveandRNYchica replied to majorsmama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally get it! The bariatric coordinator at my office took almost a month to get back with me regarding insurance requirements. I am a revision patient. I already knew what I needed to do. I could be on month two of medically supervised weight loss. I was so irritated! Thank goodness for the patient coordinator. She helped me get to the other coordinator. I think some of the people are insensitive to an already sensitive, emotional situation. -

Jess55 replied to Jessica Radcliff's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've always been a t-shirt person. I've never worn really fashionable clothes because I hate the way everyone looks on me. I told myself though, after I revise to the sleeve (currently I have the band which I'm having problems with) when I start having to buy new clothes I WILL NOT buy t-shirts. I'm going to go to Old Navy and buy fashionable clothes. Nothing to crazy, but nice clothes. That is what I'm going to look forward to. -
So i write this with mixed feelings today. I finally got approved for my revision surgery after months and months of waiting. I gave up. But now i can't have the surgery because i am pregnant. I am very disappointed that i couldn't get the surgery sooner but i am definitely so happy to be having a baby. I guess ill have to wait a year now.

If there was a Class Action Lawsuit against the band....
pjlewis replied to Nursebarbie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would join 100 %! While I have been approved to have my band removed and then revision sleeve, with insurance, my portion would still be approximately $13,000. Why? Most insurances won't pay for the removal. They will cover the revision and it is all tied in with the surgeon but since I have $6000 out of pocket and the surgeon isn't contracted for removal, that cost is on me. I am stuck with this "thing" inside my body, even though I have developed a hernia and am no closer to my goal weight than I was when I had this put in, in 2008. I know that some of it is me, of course, but due due severe spinal issues I can not exercise the way I did in the past and unless starving, I am at a loss. I had the band opened completely and while food goes down, the nerve endings in my stomach have been altered to the point that I just don't feel full or even satisfied. The hormones released to tell the brain, stop eating, you are full also seem to be off. I will be seeing an eating disorder specialist but as a cash patient, for the lapband, all I want is to be reimbursed to have this horrible device taken out. I don't even care as much about revision but I don't want this in me anymore. I feel that as a patient the description of feeling "full" was so incredibly misleading and it has caused an even worse effect on disordered eating. I have to work diligently to not gain weight now that it is open. I feel that everything has changed so much metabolically and physically that I was never warned about as a side effect.
