    Ramen Noodles

For mushies they suggested pudding, applesauce, yogurt, some non starch veggies cooked extremely well. Carrots are great because you can mush them up. We also were allowed scrambled eggs. I have a food processor so I used that on anything I make to make it easier to swallow.

    Holidays and traveling?

I’m also going on a cruise 7 weeks after being sleeved. This will be my 31st cruise, but I’m already mentally planning how I will be successful. I will still be on purée foods then. Lots of soup and yogurt for me. I’ll be taking protein shakes and unflavored protein powder to add to things.

Had First Fill one week ago...and...

Just keep your eye on the prize -- try to make the good choices & work to limit your intake. It was after my 4th fill that I felt like the band was working -- before that it was willpower. I was banded 11/14/08 and I am now 41# down and the first 20 was ME -- that last 20 has been the band -- with me playing along nicely :-) You will know when the restriction is right. You will feel satisfied after a yogurt or 1/2 baked potato. I have NEVER left food on my plate before so this is a brand new world for me. You are early out -- just TRY to be good. Because it will come :-)
  5. You can do it!!! The struggle is tough but I try to focus on how full the meat makes me and not think about yogurt and oatmeal and refried beans cause I love them to!!!! Lol we will just keep keeping on! It's exciting to realize poor choices and move away from them. Makes me feel like I'm really changing and really doing this!!! Good luck Hun! ????

    My Stomach HURTS!

I have passed the signpost of frustrated, turned the corner of miffed and have officially moved into the neighbourhood of royally ticked. It's more than 7 months now and I haven't lost one freakin' pound, other than during my pre-op diet. I've been through umpteen fills and unfills to the point where I don't even know what's in my band anymore, and I feel like complete and total crap. Something is. not. right. I have been throwing up multiple times a day for five months now, and my clinic doesn't seem to care. I've been asking them to please check my band placement or something because my stomach hurts, even when I haven't been puking. Yeah, I realise constant puking is going to make your stomach hurt a bit, but it's not that 'I've been heaving' gnawing feeling, it's more of a 'wow, something inside is really tugging and it is right unpleasant' feeling. Doesn't matter if I've eaten or not. They've come to the conclusion that my band is not too tight, and I agree. I can down a 700ml bottle of water in under 10 minutes, so that's an indication that things are going through just fine. Eating though, is a completely different matter. It seems the better quality food I eat, the worse it gets. The irony... I'm not getting stuck because I've been stuck and I know well what it feels like, and I'm definitely not eating too fast. I can even manage to keep the food down for as long as 90 minutes after I eat sometimes, but I get queasier and queasier the longer it sits and it invariably has to come up. Chicken, fish and all other meats have a 100% chance of coming up, soup about a 50% chance, and anything else that is remotely solid is completely a crap shoot. It's not like I'm trying to force down a steak for god's sake... all I want is a strawberry! At this point I'd even love to go back to my special "allergic to the protein shakes" pre-op diet, but I can't keep enough of those foods down. You'd think with the way things are going I'd be losing weight like crazy, but no. At least I'm not gaining any; if there's an upside, that would be it. I could deal if I felt I had the support of the clinic, but they seem to be willfully blind. I keep asking for help, but they keep saying that they only do tests if it appears there's a problem. Helloooo! Puking every day for months?!? Problem! Sharp pain in the stomach? Problem! Unable to keep even soup down on most days? Problem! Do I have to drop dead in their office for them to be convinced something isn't working right? Yeah, I'll admit that right now my food choices aren't very good. I'd love to be eating lean chicken and cooked veg, but they won't stay down. What am I stuck with? Pudding, carbs that melt in your mouth and the never ending supply of crystal light. Don't forget the frozen yogurt... lots of that happening. Protein shakes? Still allergic to them. The clinic is now telling me to drink the shakes despite the fact I'm allergic to them. They seem ok with the idea of me writhing on the floor in pain because I can't digest the protein shakes, as long as they can prove they offered me sound medical advice on how to make the band work. Too bad Canada works on the lump sum system because at this point I would love to take my business elsewhere, but I can't. :smile2: I'm quickly coming to a point where I just don't care anymore. I'm broken and I was delusional to think I could be fixed.

    6 Months Later

the closer you get to a normal BMI, the slower it goes. Those last 20 lbs were a BEAR for me to get off. Took forever. We're talking like 2 lbs a month the last three or four months. But I hung in there and finally made it. The reason being, your calorie requirements at that weight are MUCH lower than they were when you started. It takes about 1600 calories for me to maintain my current weight. I would have lost weight like CRAZY if I ate 1600 calories when I weighed over 300 lbs. For me to lose 2 lbs a week (which I could have done NO PROBLEM when I weighed 300 + lbs), I would have to eat 7000 fewer calories that week (well, I would have when I weighed 300+ lbs, too). That's 1000 fewer calories a day. When I was scarfing up 3500 kcal/day, that means I would have had to cut back to 2500 kcal/day. Now I would have to cut back to 600 per day. Ah...no. I could do that the first couple months out of surgery, but 600 calories a day at seven years out? No way. Plus it wouldn't have even been healthy. So I basically lose a couple lbs a month when I'm trying to lose weight. 8-10 oz portions - would depend on what it is. Greek yogurt, yes. Steak - no. Stretching your stomach - probably not. You'd have to really overeat, day after day, every day, to do that. you are hungry because physical hunger does come back for the vast majority of us sometime during the first year. And that's when things get a lot harder. I've never counted fats. And I wasn't on an ultra-low carb plan (mine was balanced), but the first few months, I rarely ate over 80 carbs a day since I had to get in so much protein. There wasn't room for more than about 80 carbs. Now i probably get double that - but I limit the "bad" ones. Mine mostly come from whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. exercise isn't that effective in helping you lose a bunch of weight unless you're talking swimming mega laps or running marathons. But it's great for your overall health, and you should do it regularly if you can. It CAN help you maintain once you get to goal, though.

    Liquid diet struggles

I am not sure what your dietitian recommended during your liquid diet phase. (Ours gave us a menu). Mine is 10 days, first 7 is liquids, such as protein shakes, broth, water, jello, yogurt smoothies, and they even mentioned creamed soup, just make sure its no fat/no sugar and to strain out any chunks it may have. ((But then 3 days before surgery its clear liquid only, water/broth )) Each Dietitian/doctor is different. A friend of mine is on clear liquids only, for 7 days.

    Protein shots....

I would add to what music said that any "whole food" (yogurt in this instance) with a roughly equivalent amount of protein is always the healthier choice vs. any "supplement". Protein is especially important for us RNY folks but it's not the whole story. Whole foods offer a lot of nutritional benefits beyond protein that are often not available from supplements. Protein bars are handy if you're on the run and don't have the time or it's inconvenient to get other, more balanced options. I usually carry one along with a few nuts, a piece of fruit, and/or turkey jerky in my car. I'm guessing that I eat one or two a month.

    New Lapband Member with PCOS

I am also newly banded and was diagnosed with PCOS in my early thirties! My doctor is pretty aggressive with me... After my surgery on July 24 ... He gave me a fill Tuesday at 2 weeks post op! With 3 cc's in my band I feel restricted bit haven't hit my green zone yet... So I am focusing on my proteins and trying to omit the sugar from my diet! I love yogurt and fresh fruit ... so that has proved a bit challenging for me! Good luck ladies in your journey!

    Anyone from Pittsburgh?

Your so funny. Yep I can only imagine! Oh the simplest of things...Never taste so good I do have a shaker ball cup. It's meant for the shakes cause I drink instant Breakfast often since I'm not a breakfast eater. If I get up at like 5am I usually have s cup or 3 of coffee, a yogurt or oatmeal around 1030ish and don't actually eat lunch till around 230ish. I'm just not quick to start eating. Actually upsets my stomach if I do. May have something to do with the hiatal hernia I'm not sure but I've never been a breakfast or should I say morning eater. I'm not a morning person period! Lol Right now I'm on synthroid for my high scores in my thyroid levels. We're supposed to be .04-.40 and I'm at 25.7! I'm way off. So I'm taking that and Vitamin D since I'm way low on that too, methacarbamol (muscle relaxer) tylenol#3 and Motrin coated with malox all for my neck and back. I have a bunch of herniated discs in my lower back and neck. I also have a broken bone in my foot right now I'm getting doctored for and a severed tendon there too. My last test is the stress test and they will have to do it in a bed since I can't wak/run the treadmill like they need. They'll just give me an injection to induce my heart level. Last thing I gotta do So back to the Vitamins. I take D, calcium, multi and I think that's it. I will ask what they require. Did you get any of the Biotin for hair (yes I know your a guy lol) and also did you get the miralax and gas ex tongue melts?

    Pureed /blended stage

I'm on purée now and one of my favorite things right now is one scrambled egg white with two tablespoons of ricotta cheese, i put the ricotta on the skillet first so it melts a little bit and then pour the egg white over it and scramble it until it's cooked but still mush -- can do the same with a full egg i would assume, i just can't use yolks Also, i make chicken broth and take out the chicken, purée the chicken with some geek yogurt and a tiny bit of fat free mayo--- can do the same with tuna or eggs for an egg salad Other then that, yogurt, mozzarella sticks, cottage cheese HW: 221 SW: 209 CW: 198 Sleeved 2/13/18
  14. Rush, while I am new to the sleeve, I'm not new to counting protein as I had to do so with the band prior to my revision. Some helpful ideas if you can't get the texture tolerable might be to use a blender and make your own shakes. One of my favorites has been vanilla powder with skim milk and add a banana and some peanut butter, but you can mix and match, add ice, use some water instead of just milk, use Greek yogurt, or try all kinds of different conglomerations to suit your preferences.

3 Weeks Out. What Were U Eating?

I was eating 2 oz of plain greek yogurt mixed with sugar free jelly, low fat cottage cheese with Mrs. Dash for flavoring, baked egg fritatas and turkey chili. And I pretty much stuck to that for several weeks. Don't rush your stomach - mine was very slow to heal.

3 Weeks Out. What Were U Eating?

Try some cottage cheese or cream cheese they have a higher Protein count then yogurt...try some black Beans or re fried beans...liverwurst if you like that and fish, easy to digest! Too early for all that acid on your new stomach kid!!!

3 Weeks Out. What Were U Eating?

I'm not sure but I think the Greek yogurt has a higher protein count than cottage cheese. My 4oz container of Greek yogurt has 15 grams of protein. Of course it's high in carbs though. I think my single servings of cottage cheese are only about 6 grams protein. What would you do with the cream cheese since bagels are obviously out of the question?

3 Weeks Out. What Were U Eating?

ya, me and my stomach have been through a lot together. So by handling tomatoes, do you mean because they're acidic? I do feel the effects of that a little but I take my ppi everyday so it's not caused me a problem. And of course I take in very small amounts of any of it and very slowly. I am so thankful that my clinic said I could progress to puréed after 10-14 days because I was STARVING and it was definetly not head hunger. But I've been taking it really slow and introducing foods one at a time. I'd say for the most part I'm still relying on the shakes and Greek yogurt just because it's easy and readily available.

    Can we talk carbs?

My nut doesn't like any oatmeal or yogurts that have more than 10g sugar. For yogurt it can be hard to find Protein and low sugar unless you go Greek and I do triple zeros. I found oatmeal the same and that the think thin and some other more high end brands had similar stats. I have not had blood work yet, I can only share that carb goal and say that I have enjoyed the think thin but it does feel like a lot of calories when most of my Breakfast "meals" are less than 100 calories. But maybe that is good since I worry I am slowing with loss due to low calories.

    Can we talk carbs?

That's fantastic! When it comes to carbs I think quality and quantity are both imperative. Wholesome forms of it in modest amounts can be beneficial. I do have to be mindful about how many carbs I eat, but actually have found that I lose the most weight, feel the best, and can sustain weight loss if I stay in the 50 to 100 or thereabouts range. I used to lose a lot of weight with very low carb diets, and then gain it all right back. I'll typically have a breakfast that is higher in carbs (high Protein Greek yogurt smoothie where the carbs are from fruit and kale, or oatmeal with unflavored Protein powder blended in), and scale back with the other meals and Snacks. I haven't lost anywhere close to 130 pounds (extremely impressive!), but I have lost enough to go from a BMI of 32 to 19.1 as of today. My weight loss over the past year has been relatively slow, probably in part because of having more carbs, but the silver lining has been minimal hair loss, absolutely no loose skin, and no regain.

    Not Enough Calories?

Turkey and chicken are good sources of protein as well. I like slices of deli turkey or chicken around string cheese or even a low fat sesame stick. My little snack in the afternoon is 1/4 can of the chicken breast, chopped up really fine with some cilantro and onion and a smidge of miracle whip, using carrot sticks or sesame sticks as dip. You get a lot of protein, a little veggy or carb, and it holds you over for a long time! The other ideas are protein shots or greek yogurt. Good luck!

    GNC shakes

I like to use it as the base to my smoothies, it mixes better than my powder from Walmart. Tastes good and a blends without grit. Without added fruit or yogurt, e.g. just mixing with water or milk, it needs a little more time to rehydrate. I like the French Vanilla. Chocolate Peanut Butter was ok too but way better if you added a spoonful of PB2.
  23. I take them as well, plus I eat a ton of yogurt (it's like the only treat I eat), it was ass neutral. It did not seem to help me. MOM did. Keep my ass in line too.
  24. I am 6 weeks out and I am able to exercise, actually walked 6 miles in 95 degree heat the other day. Are you eating fruit? I know we are supposed to eat protein first, but your body needs, fruits and veggies. This is how I make sure I get my fruit in daily, I make 2 smoothies a day, 1 apple, 1 banana, and either blueberries or strawberries. In addition I add a little water, and 2 to 3 packs of equal/splenda and a greek yogurt (protein) I highly recommend making smoothies, and using 2 or 3 different fruits, this also has ended my bouts with constipation...Good Luck!

    What are you guys eating?

I'm 5 months out and still take things easy. Everyday is different depending on what's going on. At dinner time I usually use a small dessert plate and eat a small piece of chicken, veggies, and if room a starch (usually potatoes or beans). Snacks are often string cheese, mandarin orange, or grapes. Breakfast 1/2-3/4 yogurt or two sausage links. Today I went to lunch with my boss for Mexican food. I ate half of a beef enchilada (removed some of the tortilla), 3 chips, and a few tiny bites of rice. Took me about 30 minutes and I was at capacity. Last week we went for lunch at the Olive Garden. I had a some salad and was full. I ordered the mini spaghetti lunch and brought it home for the kids. I try not to eat fast food too often. A panda bowl from Panda Express can last me a week. Half a taco at Taco Bell fills me up. At McD I eat most of a patty and toss the bun. At a sit down restaurant I split a meal with my husband and still have leftovers to bring home. Bread and I don't get along too well. A couple of crackers are ok, a slice of bread no. But as usual every brand/style affects me differently. I don't drink soda. I miss it, but can do without. I've taken a few sips from my kids juice box when really thirsty and found it too sweet and passed it on. Oj is ok in small amounts and slowly. The important thing is to be patient and listen to your body. Not all foods will be tolerable.
