Considering a lap band - scared after reading this forum!
NormaRae replied to Elrix's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my lapband 10 years ago. It has worked well overall. There were times that I would eat too much and throw up but it was occasional. Now I have been having some problems. A recent endoscopy revealed intestinal metaplasia. The doctor suggested removing the band and I answered why would I want to do that? That was before the biopsy came back. He did not tell me anything more. My surgeon is in a different state. Has anyone had this problem? I’m wondering if I just have the fluid removed, is it possible that my situation would repair itself? It is obviously pre cancer but I don’t want to wait for full blown cancer. -
I don’t know what obesity level 2 is but my highest weight was 365 and my surgery weight was 327. For me - the risks of NOT having surgery were worse than having the surgery (gastric sleeve). I had no problem with the anesthesia and my only problem after surgery has been really bad heartburn, but even that is getting better every day (surgery was 10/10). Best of luck to you!!

Gained wt during 6 month diet period
Shimmy replied to Briswife15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went up 3 pounds one week into my 10 pound "weight-loss goal" set by my doctor. I'm now back down to my starting weight of 298. I contacted my nurse navigator who is super amazing and helpful. She told me to call her when I'm down 5 pounds and we'll schedule surgery whenever I want it. So, I'm kicking my water intake and food choices into high gear because I'm so ready! I recommend you contact your nurse navigator if you have one because they know all the different insurance company requirements. GOOD LUCK... You've got this!!!! -
Marginal/anastomotic ulcer anyone?
Frustr8 replied to eudys3's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
And I now have my Repeat EGJ Scoping scheduled, October 26 at 3:10 pm. Had a choice of that one or 7:20 am, would have meant leaving my town at 5:30 or 6am to miss traffic bottlenecks in Columbus. Take my chances later in the day! Bad news : being NPO FROM MIDNIGHT ON! -

GTT~ You're in CT, like me! And we're both having op in November!!! What a small world, huh? You're so right- eating well before is so helpful! I've been not so great at it lately but I think I'm going to start earlier than my "date" of 10/24! Right? There's a meme online I've seen that reads something like, "I wish I weighed now what I weighed when I thought I was fat"- it's so true! How about shopping in stores and not having to shop online??? I used to LOVE shopping! Now I detest it and truly just buy a lot of elastic waist so I don't have to worry about fitting in them perfectly! I look forward to wearing heels and not having my knees and back hurting from standing on high heels and supporting me! When I went to my last surgical consult, I said to my surgeon that I couldn't wait (as weird as it sounds) to have the same "is that really me?" feeling I have now when I catch a reflection of myself but having the rest of the thought being, "I look so good!" as opposed to now where I think, "I'm so huge, my head looks so small!" I can't wait to take pictures with my children...(sigh) I could go on and on. I'm just excited for this new lease on life!!!

have any of you recent surgeries been experiencing heartburn/acid reflux? If so, did you have a hiatal hernia repair with your surgery? I’m getting the sleeve done but also have the hiatal hernia repair as well 10/24.. and was curious if those with the same kind of procedure noticed improvements afterwards? Btw, @bigcurt I tried your suggestion and it helped me.. thanks a lot. I didn’t think pickles were allowed on the pre-op liquid diet.

The charts should be fixed now. Thanks for letting me know about that issue. We are going to be releasing a massive update to health and fitness tracking on our app first quarter of 2019.

How are the May sleevers doing?
SueperGal replied to QueenEB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am doing fabulous! I just came back from vacation. 10 hours on a plane each way with plenty of seat belt slack!! I have lost 75lbs since starting my 2 week preop. Surgery was 5/29. I am doing great with my food intake. Water is always a struggle (it gives me acid reflux for some reason. My Surgeon is working on this with me). I certainly do not feel like I am in any way qualified to provide anyone else with medical advice. I can share my goals however :-). I work out 4 days a week, 2 of them with a personal trainer. My goal from my team is no more than 900 calories a day. Shooting for 90 grams of Protein and less than 60 grams of carbs. My nutritionist is usually able to provide me with more details on the diet than my surgeon when I ask her :-). -
How are the May sleevers doing?
HopefullXOXOXO replied to QueenEB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a question for everyone: Have you been given a maximum calorie goal and protein goal for the day? My nutritionist still insists they don't want us counting calories or protein. I was sleeved 5/3/18 and have only lost 40 pounds since surgery. I lost 10 before surgery, so total down is 50 pounds. I've been the same weight for 7 weeks now and moving a LOT! I've been eating what I'm told to eat: protein first, then veggies. I have ff plain greek yogurt w/strawberries and Splenda for a snack as well as cashew nuts. If my husband is having French fries or something like that that's not allowed, I do have a bite, but that's not often. I've read that this is the time I should be losing the most and losing it easily. The only thing I can think of is maybe I'm having too many calories in a day? I'm really disappointed in the nutrition/support group portion of the program I'm in. The support group meets with the nutritionist once a month and we don't really get much time to talk. I definitely feel MUCH better and am able to do things physically I couldn't do before surgery. I'm SO happy for everyone who's doing so good! Starting weight: 235, Surgery weight: 225, current weight: 185 -
Hello everyone I got my bypass 10/4 feelings kinda down worried feeling regret I guess this is normal? 😢

Anyone have Insurance (Cigna) approve surgery to just deny it after all clearances were done?
Matt Z replied to JOJ's topic in Insurance & Financing
Appeal the new decision and be sure to point out that the procedure was already approved. 9 times out of 10 the appeal will be approved. I'm pretty sure it's just a money saving technique employed by the insurance companies to try to limit having to pay for the surgeries. Like pretending to walk away from buying a car to try to get the dealership to lower the price, the insurance company might be trying to see "if you are serious". -
VSG + Alopecia sucks... so I buzzed it
Matt Z replied to Kay07's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Honestly... I wouldn't go to a dresser/barber, just cut that down to a 0 or 1 and you'll be good to go, no need to spend 10-15 dollars to have someone do a 1 level buzz and an edge trim. -
October 2018 Sleevers
ElectricBoogaloo replied to kdiddle31's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Band to sleeve revision, 10/10. Just returned from a one-mile walk. Gained 8 pounds of fluid during hospital stay. Finally back to pre-surgery weight. Had major constipation for the first 3 days, but normal now. Feeling as well as could be expected. Slight nausea, little pain, well managed. -
I had my surgery on 10/10 and I’m struggling with REALLY bad heartburn. Has anyone else experienced this and if so - any advise? It’s making it REALLY hard to get fluid in!

Revision from lapband to sleeve
JacquieK replied to JacquieK's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m doing good, I have some days I’m full of energy and then forget okay not two weeks yet and crash, I’m really careful not to pick up over 10 pounds. Just a few questions? Is it normal to be a pound or two heavier when you get home? I lost 4 pounds after the 5th day and that is all. I’m not Pureing every single thing, I just chew till it’s mushy not any meat or chunks. Has anyone else done that? When I started to eat I can’t rake in anything dairy or anything with artificial sweeteners goes right through me.so odd...worried about not getting enough protein...Okay last thing of course I had a sore throat after surgery for a few days no big deal but my tongue has been burning, brushing my teeth last night my tongue has a dark color to it. I had thrush before but that was white and bumpy. -
Hi grapefruit. My surgery is 10/16. Can’t wait either! Good luck to you!

I know that many of you are well into your process post-surgery, just letting you know how inspired I am!! Thanks for sharing your tips, ups and downs. My date is coming along fast 10/17 and I can’t wait. 😁

I have yet to vomit since my sleeve in August (knock on wood). Came close one time at about 5 after eating some chicken that was too dry but the feeling subsided after 10 minutes. First few days I had a hard time getting comfortable in bed. Needed help getting out of bed for 2 days. Gas pain in shoulder was horrible but just the 1st night when in hospital. Tomorrow is 8 weeks since my sleeve and no regrets here! Down 38 lbs including the 2 week pre-op diet. 😀
