4 weeks post-op, almost 1/2 way to goal
Margie122 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on 8/17. Initially I had a rough time with nausea and dry heaving and was readmitted to the hospital for an additional 4 days. Since then things have been going well. I weighed myself this morning and I was 230.2lbs. I am .2lbs away from a 65lb loss and halfway to my weigh loss goal. I lost 39lbs pre-surgery and in 4 weeks I've lost 26lbs. I am so grateful for this surgery and for my wonderful surgical team. The support I have received from my team, my family and friends who know I've had surgery, and from the people here has been amazing. Thanks! -
Hard to swallow offer surgery
Qamilian1 replied to Qamilian1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine got better after about a week. I'm 9 weeks out and doing GREAT! Occasionally I have a little swollowing issue and I just need to slow it down and relax. -
Hi Joyce. Sorry to hear what you are going through. As long as you are getting your required protien I don't think it matters if you get them from a Protein drink or chicken. If you don't feel you are ready to eat meat then don't eat it. I'm not a doctor but I don't feel it's right to push you too fast. My doctor didn't allow me to eat meat until 6 weeks out. The Gas X really helps with the gas pains. I think I used them on and off for a month, If it's real bad and one doesn't do it, you can use up to 3 at one time. I know how you are feeling with your energy level. I couldn't believe how much it took just to walk from my bed to the bathroom. What really helped me were Vitamins. All my life I have heard "take vitamins" and I am not a good pill taker and they when I could get them down they always seemed to bother my stomach. I found liquid vitamins and I can't tell you how much they helped me gain my energy back!! Every day things will get better and you'll be able to do a bit more. Don't push yourself too hard don't do more than you feel you can do...you're still healing. Take care!

I ate SO much today. TOO much. I kept eating after I was full. I snacked when I wasn't hungry. I ate more at lunch then I usually do. I'm stressed (work) and sad (sudden death of a family friend yesterday) and bored (training). I know these emotions are what caused this episode of overeating. I knew when I was eating that it was emotional. But I couldn't stop. And now I'm miserable. My stomach hurts. And I'm worried that I've stretched my stomach out and I'm going to gain weight back. Only 6 weeks after surgery, and I've already messed up! I feel guilty. (Clearly I have food issues. LOL!) I HATE food. And I HATE how much I love food.

It has been 6 months since my VSG.... And I still LOVE my sleeve. Aside from marrying my husband, this is the best thing I've ever done. No regrets... I'm not at all saying its easy. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. The emotional stuff is hard. I look in the mirror and cry sometimes, but the good outweighs the bad completely. I still write down everything I eat. Protein first. I still (and plan to forever) stay away from potatoes, bread, Pasta, and rice. I try my best to take in enough Fluid (notice I said TRY). I still use Protein shakes and bars as Meal Replacements from time to time-- but truth is, I really enjoy them. I exercise 1-2 hours most days a week- walking, jogging, weights, crunches, squats, BodyFlow classes (my new fav), whatever-- but tonight is my first belly dancing class. Wow, never would've done that before! As of this week I am 92 lbs down and officially "overweight!" I have 8 lbs until I meet my original goal of 100 lbs GONE! (But I'll probably revise and lower that goal). I can't explain how much I truly love this lifestyle-- the workouts, the food choices, the energy... Just feeling so good. Oh , and the sex hehe, sorry. Info: Age: 26 Ht: 5 ft (4' 11.5") Sleeved on 6/11/2013 Highest weight: 245 Surgery weight: 240 Current weight: 148 Largest size in my closet; 24. Most days I fit a 20-22. Currently size 12.

Had surgery 2 days ago..
roiansmom replied to vmamccoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt really nauseous for about a 5-6 days. The discomfort lessened after the first 3-5 days and then was intermittent for the next 10 days. At 3 weeks out I feel great, but still get tired easily. I'm told this is normal. -
When first starting out I would only eat what I am comfortable with. Don't force yourself to eat more. Your weight loss will be more in the first few months and as you go along, you will be able to eat more calories and sometimes you wish you were eating less. I am 8 months post op and eating about 1000 cal and wish I could eat less. Don't rush it. Take the time to find out what your pouch likes and give it time to heal. You will run into stalls, but take your measurements now and you will find you are losing inches when you are not losing pounds.

Has anyone been on a cruise since their surgery?
Lovin2lose posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been on 9 cruises so far, so I'm not new to cruising at all. I'm just curious what my next cruise will be like. Right now, I'm just over a week post-op. My husband and I are taking a road trip to Florida at the end of next month (I'll be 5 1/2 week post op at that point) to visit his dad. Yesterday he asked me if I wanted to take a 5-night cruise out of Miami, right after the week we spend at his dad's. While I would normally jump at the chance, I'm unsure of it right now. I have no idea on how meal times would go. I know at that time that I'm just starting out eating normally again. I can't see us doing the main dining room dinners, so I assume we would do buffets for all 3 meals. He said he was fine with that. Also, do you think I'll be able to take my sea sickness meds (bonine---similar to dramamine)? I normally start taking that 2 days before we leave and then take it everyday during the trip. I don't know if I'm over thinking this or what. But my mind is saying to wait til next summer. I don't know. What do you think? Were you be able to do a cruise so early after surgery? -
What you are feeling is perfectly normal. Even the first week post surgery I was thinking 'what the heck have I done?" But now over a month out, the scale numbers are starting to get smaller, I am off my blood pressure medication and last night I bought a pair of pants that were 3 sizes smaller than the ones I walked into the store wearing (only reason they stayed on was due to my tightly cinched belt). It was definitely the right thing for me to do. I would never have made it to this point without the band. The thought of surgery is scary stuff, but you I'm sure you didn't make this decision lightly. A lot of thought and consideration went into it. You've come too far to let it slip through your hands. Just keep reminding yourself why you are doing it. If you need to, write it down so you can see it as often as needed. You will do just fine. Good luck!

Hard Excersize With Little Calories
It's all new replied to bubles089's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the other posts - too much too soon. I started very mild exercise about one month after surgery - walking for 1/2 hour at a slow to moderate pace on the treadmill. And I think I took a week to build up. At six weeks I added in strength training and found that I would have dizzy spells if I pushed it too hard. Now, at 4+ months I can do more. On such restricted intake you really have to go slowly and learn what your body will allow. Good luck, and way to commit to your new lifestyle! -
Happy New Year! I was banded 12/04/09 and I think I am doing fine. I have yet to have a fill (scheduled 1/18). I lost 18 lbs. during the first 2 weeks and have only lost 2 lbs since - I am hoping once I get my fill I will progess. Anyway, my question to you all is about stomach hardness. My stomach - in the area where the band and new pouch should be is hard all the time like it is full or something. It doesn't hurt but it is just hard. IS THIS NORMAL?

Thanks! Idk why im having it im 3 almost 4 weeks out, still just working on getting my liquids in! Like I said im just not a pop drinker, and could care less about caffeine one of those weird body things I guess!

Since my surgery, I have not had any cravings. Maybe some head hunger because I am on full liquids for another 8 days. I just want to taste something different and chew. I do really miss coffee though. I used to get a venti non-fat iced white mocha from starbucks everyday. I have not had coffee in over 3 weeks. I would love me some coffee. I know I will never get to drink my old drink again because it has way too many calories, but maybe a skinny vanilla latte every once in awhile would be nice. Good Luck to you! Bonnie

When Does The Fatigue Go Away?!
Camella replied to AshleyBrookeRN's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It took me about five or six weeks to feel semi-normal in terms of my energy. The good news is that once the weight starts to come off you will have three times as much energy as you did before surgery. Take it easy and don't push yourself too much. -
What happens if your band slips after you loose the weight...
Band_Groupie replied to gingin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It takes at least 6 weeks for the internal stitches to heal, standing up, walking around, all this can move things on the inside that can cause you pain from time to time. Check it out with your Doc when you get back or call them if it gets worse. The 'lump in your throat' is one of two things...either you're eating too much/too fast and it's backing up into your esophagus (this can lead to esophageal dialation, so slow it down), OR you're having heartburn, which is THE most common side-effect of banding...for some the ONLY symptom of heartburn is a lump in the throat (Google 'globus sensation and hearburn'). Hope this passes and you're feeling better soon...enjoy the beach and relax! -BG -
I have a friend who is participating in a "biggest loser" contest at work, she is trying to lose 10 llbs in 2 weeks. :eek:I have seen preop post where isopure drinks were mentioned, and I want to get an idea on how much wt was lost. She works out approx 1hr--4 days a wk and daily caloric intake is approx. 1000. I know this is not a healthy idea but....any help in appreciated

How about tossing in a FREE DAY....i allow myself one day a week (usually Friday for me) where i eat what i want and not count calories. One of the trainers from biggest loser suggested this last season i think i was. Said it tricks the body. I don't claim to understand it, but it works for me.

I'm on two weeks of Protein shakes and veggies. I can also have as much SF Jello, popsicles, and Water ice as I want, as long as it is SF. However, to be honest I have already cheated some. After reading all the different types of pre-op diets on this forum and realizing that many have a much shorter pre-op diet, especially with lower BMI's I decided I will not follow the diet to the T for the first week. I know I'm bad, but that's my decision. I'm not pigging out or anything like that. My calories each day is between 800 - 1200. Next week I will strictly follow the diet. I may even add an extra day of clear liquids just before the surgery.

Help! Scared to Transition to Real Food TOMORROW!
Miriam posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Everyone, Question: What did you eat for your first few meals of real food? How did you handle the transition? Tomorrow I am allowed to stop eating mushies since I am three weeks post-op and can start eating real food again. Part of me is VERY excited!! But I am also scared of both the temptation of eating a lot again and also trying to find foods that will still digest easily with the band before my first fill. Thanks!! -
Soft veggies
browneyedgirl1981 replied to browneyedgirl1981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My week 3 says "well-cooked soft vegetables". I'm just excited to eat something soon that I can't drink, even if it's only 2-3 bites! -

Qeustion about port site
BandedJenny replied to BrendaTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have a swelling around the port site. I don't know if it would be normal or not. But you said it feels warm after 3 weeks? I would contact your surgeon just to be on the safe side. -
I noticed when it is my "friends" time to visit each month that I go up and down. Stick in there! Prob just water....try not to look at scale a couple of days and just stick to what you should be eating. I did that for two weeks and was pleasantly surprised!!! HUGS!!
