    Surgery Date!

Wow, a 3 day hospital stay???? I was in the hospital less than 24 hours. I feel like I got cheated lol. Glad everything went ok. I'm almost at the 8 month post op date, and can say this was one of the best decisions I ever made.
  2. Congrats!! sounds wonderful. 4 weeks and I will be having my surgery. nervous and excited. thanks for sharing! Ramona
  3. Start of preop diet July 240.3 Surgery day 226.8 Week 1 214.4!! That's down 25.9 overall, 12.4 since surgery Pretty pleased with that. Feeling pretty good still on clears for 3 more days. Any numbers for anyone else? How are you feeling?
  4. I was very sick from my second week until my seventh week. I was nauseous and also had a general ill feeling. I ended up back in ER with dehydration, UTI, and low potassium. I got 3 bags of fluids, antibiotic and potassium in an IV. I felt better but not great. I finally started feeling normal about 7 weeks out. It will get better. I thought I was going to feel like that forever. I am 9 weeks now and feel pretty good, just not 100% energy yet. You will feel better too!
  5. I just had my second fill this morning. The PA only gave me 0.5 cc, which really disappointed me. She said that she didn't want to hurt me by giving me too much. The port access also went deepter than last time. It took her 4 shots to find the port access. After my first fill, I was able to keep everything down and I was eating larger and larger portion at each meal (7 OZ of meat plus 3 OZ of vege). I felt I could eat more than before the fill. So I was really expecting this fill to be somewhere likes 2.5 cc to 3 cc. Even with 0.5 cc, I am still put on a liquid diet for two days. I could tell right now that there is not that much difference in restriction. I am scheduled to going back again after two weeks. I am going to beg her to give me more next time.
  6. Like was said in the other thread, its almost impossible to judge restriction by liquids. You could drink 4 Protein shakes and not feel satisfied for long, but half a cup of solid food could do the trick. Give it at least a week to see. I had a fill the other day myself, thought "yes, this is the restriction I wanted back" and a day or two later am thinking "darn, I might have to go back in for .1 cc more (4 cc band, got 2.9 cc in it, so very tiny fills). But its better than having had to go back in to be unfilled! However I'll give it a couple fo weeks because they do take time to "settle" and give you some idea of what the fill has achieved.
  7. Lets see....any time we get a night off from the kids, we tend to want to go out to eat, its almost like a celebratory freedom for the night thing, I always want to get something bad! Right before my period, its a bad week, I always crave the worst things. I work at a country club, our members bring in lots of goodies, especially around the holidays, this year I am just going to have to hand it all straight over to my assistant. Buffets of any kind, I avoid them like the plague now. Movies, we used to always et Snacks like junior mints, hot tamales, popcorn....now I smuggle in apples and Kashi Cereal bars, just not the same though! I could go on and on....
  8. Hi all, as of this Wednesday i am 2 weeks out and stated mfp and looking for friends to help each other along the way. My user name is bbbslady34 send me a request or your user name!

    Travel After Surgery

I went on vacation 3 weeks to the day after my surgery and while it was a little hard for me not to be able to eat all the things that my family was indulging in, there were still plenty of things I COULD eat since I was making the switch to soft foods. I was still a little week and got tired faster than I expected to, but I still had a great time.

    Slowed Momentum

It can be really hard to turn things round when you're iin a rut. I find it easier to focus first on exercise, doing extra, upping intensity, even starting a new program/focus (i cycle around between slow steady running, interval training, curcuit training to prevent boredom and plateaus) and then the eating follows. It really only takes one or two good days to get you back on track and srrong enough to keep going. I'm not a big one for "diets" but it can also really help just to follow a program - like a week of eating that you get in the Weight Watchers magazine or similar. Personally, I always called up for a week or two of Lite n Easy which is a home delivered calorie controlled plan we have here. Just take away the guesswork and temptation and get with it, and you know you'll get results. After that I was always fine to carry on on my own. These slumps hit all of us from time to time.
  13. I guess it does feel like I am loving my food more (in the small amt that I am allowed). Though today I noticed that people around me also make me feel guilty about what I eat. For lunch I had a chicken & spinach sausage (3 oz) on a whole grain lite roll (1.5 oz), with a spoon of turkey chili and a sprinkle of low fat shredded cheese. It was 5.5 oz total, but someone at work remarked " I'm surprised you are able to eat ALL of that". WTH?? My surgeon says I can eat between 4-6 oz, why make me feel like crap about my meal? Ugh, I'm just frustrated I guess.
  14. Ok folks, I am doing a survey. I'm 7 weeks out from my sleeve and there have been some small family affairs but nothing major. My husband and I are going to a wedding tomorrow and I'm a little nervous. How do you guys handle major functions where eating and drinking are expected? (BTW - the folks at this wedding don't know I've had any kind of surgery so there's likely to be questions if I'm just sitting there sipping Water and barely eating.) As a side note, I'm praying there is something some what healthy to eat as well. just sayin

    I am starving

I was given 2 weeks worth of MediFast food. That is basically 4 different Soups (which are mostly broths), powdered eggs, blueberry pancake(worst thing I have ever had), strawberry smoothie, hot chocolate, vanilla shake, and chocolate shake, and Protein Bars. Out of those options I am to chose 5-6 things a day to eat and that is it!

    Plateau

You're doing great Carol. I'm at 57 lbs down now. The last 3 months I've only lost about 5 lbs though. So so slow but at least its moving. Glad you're doing well.

    Plateau

How long to plateaus last? I'm 17 days out from surgery and the scale hasn't budged at all this week. I'm down 30lbs, 16 from surgery. Logically I know that it will eventually move again because I'm hardly taking in any calories. I think my body may be in freak out mode. I've been doing a protein shake for breakfast and soup for lunch and dinner. I've been walking and drinking a lot of water as well. For those that have hit plateaus, how long did it last? What seemed to get you through it? I'm trying not to get frustrated. Thanks for your help!

    Plateau

It's been a while since I posted...I am still losing weight. My surgery was on July 16th I've lost just over 68lbs and I am still going down. It seems that around Christmas/New Year I stalled for a few weeks (3) where the scale did not move, then out of the blue....wham, I was down 5 lbs.....then I gradually lost 1-2 lbs a week and have been stalled for the last 2 weeks, then all of a sudden 4lbs, down.....I guess our bodies have to be reminded to keep losing. I think that I have stalled at every major weigh point in my life....I stalled at 250 for a few weeks....but a few years ago I was 250 for a couple of years, it's almost like my body remembered that is was ok and comfy at that weight....then I tried all the tricks, workout, no workout, carbs, no carbs, more calories, less calories, and then all of a sudden it started moving down again. Same thing happened at 240 and at 238. I am finally down to 234.2 (yes the .2 is important) I will probably stay here for 2 weeks and then finally make it into the 220's....I haven't been there since 1998..... It feels like our body has check points and we have to somehow remind them that at some point there was another comfortable spot.....a few pounds lower.....

    I Cried!!!

Great job. I sometimes get to obsessed with getting weighed. I need to put the scale out in the garage and go get it once every 2 weeks. Best of luck.
  20. The choice is yours, I feel your pain, I had the bypass and gained all but 40 pounds back, just had the lap band at 270 pounds, however when o was going through the approval process, I realized that band or no band that this body of MINE is MY RESPONSIBILITY! From March 3 til my final appt. With my surgeon I demanded from myself to start eating healthy, and to SAVE MY OWN LIFE! I am happy to report that I went from 291 to 271 in less than 2 months and this was prior to my pre op diet for the lap band. I stopped fast food, eating out, and did 5 servings of fruit and 4 veggies a day, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, YOU MUST GO BACK TO THE BASICS, LEAN PROTEIN FIRST! From my experience Me and my first surgery failed each other, you have to take responsibility for why you are where you are! If we that have gained weight back be honest our habits drastically changed from when we first lost the weight! Change your habits, if your band is now positioned correctly, go get your fills and save your life! I wish you luck, YOU CAN DO IT!

    corn?

I was cleared for all foods by my doc and NUT at 8 weeks. I tried corn on the cob at 9 weeks, and did fine. It was so delicious. I have had it three times in the last month. I can eat 1 very small ear, but then chose to have just a half ear the other times to be sure to have room to get my protein in. One half ear was very satisfying. Remember, it is a starch, so count the carbs in your daily totals. This is something you will have to be careful about. Half ear. Not often. Self-discipline.
  22. It took me 5 weeks from first visit till surgery. I self paid and was lucky to get all preop apts done quick
  23. I've been on LBT forever and hope to read it over and find some of the people I used to chat with on here. I just wanted to tell me story since it's changed so much since the last time I was on here. I got my lapband in May of 2005, so about 3 and a half years ago. I was about 263 pounds at that point. I lost down to 185 at one point, then got pregnant in October of last year. Our sweet baby girl is 4 months old now and I am around 220 lbs. I just had a fill and don't feel too bad about my weight since I just had a baby. If I was asked if I'd get the lap band again I would do it for sure. I have loved my band from day one. The band is not for people who are not 100% serious about losing weight though. If you cheat it will hurt or make you sick. If you eat the wrong thing it gets "stuck" and feels like crap. My band is tight as a drum right now and I'm on straight liquids. I'm trying to do a quick weight loss thing since I gained like 35 lbs from the baby. Thank you lap-band for stopping me at least 900 times from eating the wrong foods. I could never live without you!!!
  24. I feel like every soft food meal I have trouble getting in my four oz. my dr told me my stomach is somewhere between 4-6 oz and that's what I need to be getting in each meal. I've been weighing my food. I made some canned chicken and it weighed 3.75 oz. I cooked it and mixed it with some sauce. I could barely eat half of it before I was full. I can't figure out if it's because my stomach is still healing or what. liquid wise I can take 4-6 oz no problem. But soft foods are another story. I'm two weeks post op today. And health wise I feel fantastic. Doesn't even feel like I've had surgery. I've followed my drs orders to the T. He said stick to canned chicken, or grilled chicken breast, veggies, fruits, fat free Beans, turkey. Basically everything Protein rich. Anyone else having similar issues?
