100 pounds in one year

I disagree that this is an "unrealistic" expectation. I just think there are more factors to consider and it can be a completely realistic expectation. I think you need to look at what your total excess weight is (how much you need to lose), how you adjust to your band, how often you work out, and how often you "stray" from quality foods. Sometimes age can be a factor too. But the band is supposed to help people lose 50-60% of their excess--keep that in mind. Two things, IMHO, have helped me to lose as much as I have. First, you have to get your 60-70 g of Protein or your weight loss will stall. It has happened to me. The second... move your body. I work out 3-4 times a week for at least 45 min. I had to work up to that point. When I first started it was only 10 min. I have hit two plateaus so far in 11 months. That is when I know to step up my work out some. It has jump started my weight loss again. I have not hit 100 yet (so close), but I still have 5 weeks before my 1 year anniversary. Just be realistic and Celebrate all your successes!
2. Hello Everybody!! So i'm booked for my VSG on June 15th with Dr. Alverez in piedras negras, MX. I'm 5'6 and my current weight is 200, I was wondering if anyone else had similar stats and had already had their surgery. Looking to find out what weight you got to after, if you had loose skin, or even if your just starting out it would be nice to have someone to share similar goals with. I've been told that my low goal should be about 10-20 pounds less then my comfortable weight because i will gain 10-20 pounds back when i got into maintenance so my low goal is 125-135. I'm hoping that when i hit maintenance i can put on 10-15 pounds of muscle, i know big goals a girl can dream right! Thanks!!
3. I went to my consult with my doctor July 24th. I have been through my psych evaluation (only one required), went to one nutritionist appointment (I have 3 pre-op) and I have my appointment with the gastro doc on 8/27 (the EDG isn't scheduled yet - it will be after this appointment). I just want to get my date already! My insurance only requires a three month period but it still doesn't seem real until I know my date - and then I can go to my primary doc for the rest of the pre-op tests. I have lost 30 lbs since I started trying 7/14/19 to lose weight, because I wanted to be healthy. I'm happy I'm losing on my own but I'm ready for the next step. I feel like all I do is obsess about having the surgery and looking at everything about it, every day, from the procedure, vitamins, people's before and after pics, etc. I also don't want the doc to schedule my surgery for the date my father passed (10/21). I found out it would be a Monday and, sure enough, 10/21 falls on a Monday and I have this weird feeling that that will be my date. I hope I get a choice because I feel bad karma around that date. But I want it as soon as possible. Sorry, I just had to vent somewhere where people understand.

Eating carbs

try to keep carbs to a minimum... one slice of regular bread has a ton of carbs in it as well as rice... Remember we are suppose to be making better choices on our diets especially during the 1st year to get the most weightloss possible. There are low carb breads out there. This is the one i get. I was able to eat breads/carbs around month 2-3 ish but i kept it to a minimum. But yea if you are not doing well yet with bread. Then give it some more time to heal. if you want try taking a tiny bite, waiting say 5-10 minutes and taking another small bite and see how you do.
5. Hi Leigh, Mia I was banded in September in the UK (I live in Ireland). I had 4 stone to lose. By two weeks after the op I had lost 12 lbs about and was delighted. Then my appetite returned and I lost only 2 lbs more roughly between then and Xmas despite 3 fills (involving 3 treks to the UK). I must say I was beginning to lose hope until I had my 4th fill last week. Now suddenly I have serious restriction, almost too much in fact. Im back on Protein Shakes and have lost 4-5 lbs since last week. Im in no hurry to get a defill in order to get back on solids when the weight is coming off so nicely. Now in fairness I am exercising daily as well but am very happy to finally have restriction. (Im at 8.7 in a 10 ml band). My doctor was willing to give me an additional fill every 2 weeks until I got good restriction. The limitation was on my side due to the effort involved in going over and back to England. I would recommend to keep going back for the fills until you are in no doubt that you have restriction. Wishing you both the very best. Ellen

Hello from Minnesota !!

:thumbs_up:I'm from Lino Lakes and had my band put on April 10, 2008. I've lost a total of 93 pounds! Well....that was 55 pre surgery and 38 since surgery. I started last November to lose weight and change my bad eating habits and lack of exercise. You are making a GREAT decision! Good luck to you! Just have a positive attitude and you will succeed!! Keep me posted! I'm excited for you! -Dawn :biggrin2:

New guys needs some advice

Don't stress out about it. Your body is still healing. Losing anything during the healing period is fabulous, let alone 10 lbs! :cursing: Just follow your dietary instructions, don't cheat, drink lots of water, walk and exercise as much as possible and it will come.

Still on the fence....

Yeah, that sounds about right. You should try to find a doctor that will also give you the fills for free with that price. My doctor charges 15k for everything including all dr. visits and fills for a year. I think there is a doctor in Colorado that charges 10 or 11k for everything, but then you have to find a fill center around you. But, it might be work it if you save 5k. Yes, I'm glad I got the band. I'm very happy with my results so far and I'm still on my journey.

12. I was banded 8/05 and I still regret the day it was done. I have been miserable the entire time. I wanted this to work, but for me, it hasn't. I lost about 60 lbs and haved gained about 10 lbs back. I can't stand to have a fill because it causes me so much agony. I have to have my fill drained. I vomit continuously from eating broth and Jello and I don't think this is right. I think that I may just be a person that is not a good candidate. I understand that this is a life altering thing, but I eat more junk now than before because I can't get the good stuff to go down. I'm tired of hurting. I am happy for all of the success stories, but it makes me sad that my entire experience with the band has been horrible. I don't think that it is right to have to hurt everytime you try to eat something or have to run to the restroom to vomit after every bite. This is not healthy!! Also, I'm not particularly in love with my doctor because he tries to make me feel like I am the enemy instead of trying to understand why I feel the way I do. I have had the fluoroscope twice, but nothing really shows up. Regardless of what they say, I think something is wrong. I am waiting now to get approval from my insurance company. They paid 100% to have it done and now I hope they will do the same to have the reversal. I have been successful in the past with weight loss. After this reversal, I am looking forward to doing what I should have done at first - exercise, drink water and three healthy squares a day. If anyone else feels this way, please respond!

Feeling Down

Melissa I can soooooooooooo relate. I feel like I have been stuck in the 240ish range for the last 10 years. When in fact it has only been for the last month. But it seems like a lifetime. One thing to remember is that yes your friend lost boat loads of weight fast but the key word there is FAST. This slow sometimes agonizingly slow process is the safest way to lose. It doesn't make the lack of scale movement any less tolerable. Take this time to look at the victories that don't require we measue the successes with a scale. You already mentioned the decrease in clothing size. What about walking without getting out of breath. More energy. Fitting into a chair without feeling like you are squeezed into it. Feeling sexier. Looking healthier and feeling healthier. Go get a manicure or pedicure and pamper yourself. Take a day or at least 15 min for YOU. Give yourself the praise that you deserve. We are all special and we will succeed at this journey. It will come Melissa. I have faith in all of us to accomplish our goals. It will come.

Feeling Down

Melissa, do not let the numbers on the scale discourage you. I too have been stuck and I know I have been doing great with me eating and exercise. I know I have lost inches regardless of what the scale says. Sometimes our bodies just need a break, when I stop and think about it, my body has lost weight every week for 10 months...thats a long time , the scale is just taking a vacation right now and Iam ok with it....the last few lbs are always the hardest to lose..you will get there, remember this is a journey not a race. You have been successful so far and Iam sure you will continue to be, your body is probably just taking a time out right now too .What you are feeling, just know you are not alone we have all benn there or in my case Im right there with you

Major Scale Victories!

Thanks! No secrets really. I try to eat varied calorie intake so that the body does not get used to anything. Exercise makes a difference. When I get lazy, I don't loose as much! I try to do low carb, but not fanatically. Just follow the rules and the weight will come off. I have totally loose skin. As my husband says it is like a 5 lb weight in a 10 lb bag. I hope it tightens up a lot. I will have to have a tummy tuck though. I have 3 kids including a set of twins that went full term so the skin was stretched by that a lot! Sent from my iPhone using VST

Texas August banders

Congrats everyone on your banding and weightloss!!! I have lost 18 pounds in 10 days I was so shocked!!! I know that it will slow down and thats ok because I want this all to work out to my advantage and not against me......All i have tried on my mushies is mashed potatoes and a baked potatoe.....of course i could only take a few bites before i was full...it feels soo great.....im still gonna try to stick with mostly fluids and just a few mushies....a little texture seems to work ever now and then LOL.......sometimes i look at the food i cant have and i want it but when the reality of thats what made me get in the position i am at today i snap out of it........I have read stories on here of people giving up and giving in........I cant, I need to be here for my child and man did I spend 7500 to throw it down the drain, Nope I sure didnt lol........I also know that support for each other will get us through.....It helps to have others in the same position.........so, if anyone ever needs an ear or eye LOL........im here .......Good luck you guys!!!!:kiss2:~April~

S~253 C~235 G~159
A big fat baby

Is your doctor concerend that you can still drink liquids at 3.5cc's. I'm at 2cc's and if the liquid is too cold or too thick I cant drink it. I can not imagine what I would be like at 3.5..probably all closed up. 2cc's is hard enough. Does he do your fills under fluoro? Do you drink the barium so he can see your restriction? That makes a big difference for me to be able to see it for myself , to know he hit my port and to see the barium trickling down through the band... The Wellbutrin will help like the prozac did but without the weight gain, be careful, you may feel nauseas the first week or so and with the band you do not want to be throwing up. I took wellbutrin( pre band) but the nausea was so bad the first 10 days I had to stop taking it, I knew it was going to get better as it got into my system but I could not hang on for that too happen. I had no appetite what so ever..I'm glad I was able to make you feel a little better..hang in there!
19. My surgeon gave me the option of doing it all at once or separate surgeries. I chose to do separate surgeries because I had the band for 10 years and figured there would be alot of scarring and adhesions and to be honest I was still coming to terms with whether I wanted 85% of my stomach removed. When they removed the band in late September, they spent alot of time removing the adhesions and I will be sleeved and hernia repair in December. I don't think it is a skill level question; I think it is a question of what do you think is the least risk. I suspect that there isn't very good data on which approach gives best results statistically speaking (ie fewer complications) so surgeons are working off their own experiences. for me, this has been good. I have been so hungry and gaining weight, in spite of trying to diet since the band came out. It has really removed any dellusional thoughts of "I can do this myself". It may sound crazy, but i needed that last dose of reality, that my obesity is out of control and I can't get a grip without bariatric surgery.

Stalls Around 4-5 Months

Hi I lose about 6-8 pounds fast and then I "adjust" (lol) for about 10 days. Then I lose fast again and thats been my pattern.Dont do long stalls. How much weight have you lost? You had your surgery about 2 weeks after me.
21. Janey I love you but is there really such a thing as a size 3? I went from girls 12 to Ladies 12 at 10 years old and never seen a size 3 in my life. This made me laugh. I will never see a size 3 before I die...... Thanks for making my day, no offense honey, sincerely!!!! Linda

Steri-strips - when did yours come off?

My doctor took them off at my 10-day check-up.
23. Mine started to come off in 10 days or so. It largly depends on how much you perspire and how oily your skin is.

Lets Celebrate !!!!!

I have another! I have a wedding to go to in 2 weeks and I've been dreading dress shopping. So I finally went this weekend, the first dress that I saw that I really liked I tried on. It was a size 18. I didn't think it would fit because I haven't been able to wear a size 18 dress in I don't know how long. Anyway, I figured what the heck because it was on clearance for 10 freaking bucks! So i tried it on and it fit PERFECTLY! I didn't even have to suck my stomach in, lol. I was thrilled.
25. That happened to me. Once a few months ago, then again once more time, then started again 10 days ago nightly. My band slipped and is being removed. I would definitely go to your doctor.
