Plain protein powder
mtraverse replied to nikkimapr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I add mine to my Greek yogurt to get extra protein which equals about 15gms with 2oz yogurt and half scoop protein powder. Plus it is really good with some raspberries or bananas added -

How do you know you're full?
bewell replied to annasledge's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One more thing.....it turned out for me I need to eat 4-5 small meals a day. That worked best for my body and how I can get enough calories in. I just couldn't eat enough 3 times a day to get the nutrition I needed. I worked with my doc and my NUT and that's how it worked for me. And today, just ONE hard boiled egg is perfect. That keeps me feeling full for 4 hours. It's amazing. If someone told me ONE hard boiled egg would be enough food for me, I'd have said they were crazy! But it is. So 3 eggs a day isn't enough food so that's why I need to eat more small meals. Small meaning 1/4 to 1/3 cup of food. Sometimes it's just one small yogurt. Or a few nuts and little fruit. Or 3 oz of meat. If I eat out, I eat an appetizer. It's hard to get used to eating a small amount of food. Especially when my head wants that OLD very FULL feeling. -
Yes I love Greek yogurt but it's a little thick right now

If you are really hungry make sure you get some protein, too. You could add a cheese stick or some yogurt. Just plan to have an evening snack and you can make good choices.

would you eat one of these for lunch?
NikkiDoc replied to NthQldAus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not eat it since it is too low in Proteins and likely too high in sugars for my program. My program does not count carbs they count sugars and there are certain types of sugars I cannot have if they are in the top 5 ingredients and if the sugars are more than 2 grams per my serving size. Without the ingredients I can't 100% tell if I can' have it based on the sugars. But I wouldn't bother due to the low Protein There are a number of yogurts with higher protein and lower carbs/sugars per serving. -
Also try Yoplait 100 greek yogurts. They have less sugar and more protein.

You need to break (the) fast first thing in the morning (eat breakfast). It's been proven that people who eat breakfast do fair better in the long run with losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It's a good habit to be in. (Your tummy will learn ) Protein Protein Protein I don't eat yogurt very often, but hubby and I like the Dannon Lite & Fit Greek and the Walmart Lite & Fit Greek. Also, the 4 oz. Breakstone cottage cheese cups are the perfect size and quite filling for me. A half cup of anything is about my typical, comfortable serving size. This week I've been sampling different flavors of the Quest Protein Bars as a Meal Replacement at breakfast. They have been very filling and satisfying. -
I had a yogurt & cottage cheese. I stopped that & just went to liquids.

Day 4-feeling sick?
meggieo79 replied to meggieo79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No it actually doesn't take that long typically half hour to sip. Ugh I can't have anything for another 2 weeks just the shakes and cl liq. I guess if I'm doing well at the 2 week mark I can add yogurt. How are you feeling overall? Hoping this gets better fast! -
Perfectly Imperfect: Ashley's VSG Story
ladycook9713 replied to ladycook9713's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
At first I started out eating low carb, but found I wasn't happy doing that. So I've started eating carbs as well and I feel like a normal human. For Breakfast I may have a Fiber one bar, yopa Greek yogurt with granola topping, 3 pieces of bacon, or Protein oatmeal. (I've had other things but those are my staples) lunch I'll have part of a non breaded chicken breast. Or steak...I usually stick to a protein source for lunch. Same for dinner. For a snack I'll eat some sort of fruit. Grapes, watermelon, kiwi. I've also had crackers or beef Jerky. I've also eaten things that weren't so great for me. I've had French fries, a hamburger, fried chicken tenders, ice cream, sno cone. I've not been perfect. But I don't over indulge. I'm only able to eat a few bites of it and then I feel full. I am able to eat bread (toast, rolls, buns) without ill affect. But eggs, milk, and tortillas are a no-no for me. (Although I haven't tried eggs or milk since the first month. They could be ok now) I don't do Protein shakes. Or Protein Bars. -
Well done. Cake is one of the foods that we somehow turned into poison. I currently have two things that I use as sweets-substitues when I start getting overwhelmed and want to cave in and have the sugary crap that I sure don't need: greek yogurt with fresh blueberries mixed in Protein powder (chocolate) & Water shakes Both are excellent in flavor and ward off the sugary junk food.......and both have redeeming nutritional value.

Well, I have PB2 as a snack sometimes. Hummus, Danon light and fit Greek yogurt, canned peaches in water not syrup, black beans and Refried beans with a little cheese and mild sauce, chunky potato soup, mashed potatoes with cheese. I'm hoping to hard boil some eggs and make an egg salad which dr said was fine as long as I chew it to bits or I can purée it in blender. I bet you can't wait!!! I'm on mushy foods for two weeks. As of right now I'm too tired to get creative with my options so I'm just doing boring basics. I'm not tolerating my protein shakes very well (burp up shakes afterwards) so need to get in more protein.

My doctor's rule for carbs is "as few as possible" and only from legumes, green veggies, dairy, and a tiny bit of fruit. I'm a little over a year out and have just started introducing quinoa, brown rice, sweet potatoes, and a little more fruit as a way of tip-toeing into maintenance. And remember, measure out your Protein, and eat all your meals in this order: 1. Protein (meat, legumes, Greek yogurt) 2. Green veggies 3. Fruit 4. Starches (including green peas and corn) If you plan it right, you should be full, or at least satisfied, long before you get to Step 4. I'm always stuffed by Step 2. And when hunger strikes between meals, ask yourself if it's really thirst in disguise? If you're behind on your Fluid intake, catch up on that first, then wait 15-30 minutes before eating. And finally, when you want a snack, make it protein-based (meat, cheese, nuts, yogurt, jerky). Good luck!

There are loads of ways to get good Protein in. If you eat meat, poach a chicken breast, then puree it. Thin it down with low sodium chicken broth. GENEPRO (which I am not a fan of) and Isopure make unflavored whey. I add it to Soups, coffee, tea, veg. broth, yogurt, etc.... 1 Scoop of Isopure is 26gms of protein. I think there's another brand of unflavored whey, but I can't recall it. I also like Isopoure teas in the RTD bottles. One bottle is 40gms of protein and that counts towards your Fluid intake. I split one bottle into thirds and add it to my 20 Water bottles. 3 of those a day and I've gotten in my fluids AND a good portion of my protein.

When I was on Clear Liquids I ate a lot of Soup (ProtiDiet tomato basil and creamy chicken), and drank/ate over crushed ice ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates. Fortunately, I was able to drink premier Protein. When I was on full liquids I added cottage cheese and Greek yogurt to the mix. I also liked the GNC Lean 25 orange cream flavor shakes. Keep trying different brands and flavors. You've got to get in your protein.

I'm having an issue with this too - I'm still on stage 2 liquids 2 weeks post op and I'm living off plenty of water, jello, broth and Greek yogurt but I can barely make through an 11 oz premier shake which would typically hold 30 grams of protein. I don't feel nauseated by it - just can't bear the taste and I tried other shakes and this is by far the best. I feel great but I'm on the fence at not getting enough protein.

Can't stand to eat meat!
BLERDgirl replied to LynRey70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm vegetarian and allergic to seafood. Don't like meat? Don't eat it. I do eat a lot of eggs and greek yogurt, but I've done quite well not eating any meat at all. -
I am 7 days post op. I have been enjoying yogurt since day three. I have had no problem with it at all. It is actually very enjoyable.

I am 9 days out and I've been wanting some yogurt really bad. I bought some yoplait light yogurts (if I don't eat them, my husband will) but I'm just wondering if anyone had a bad experience with it? I probably could only get a few bites in but I figured since it has protein, it wouldn't be so bad. Thoughts?

Greek Yogurt making me burp....anyone else?
remzel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had a taste for yogurt before, especially greek yogurt but as it's such a great source of Protein, an easy meal and can be a great vessel - I figured I'd give it a try for lunch today. I got the Fage total 0% with Honey. I dont want all the sugars from the honey, but I figured it would be a good way to ease into the yogurt since it helps mask the flavor. I've had a few bites and now I'm burping like crazy and keep feeling the gas bubbles rise up [and of course, I'm at work where this looks/sounds even better]. Anyone else experience this? Did it go away over time or did you cut out yogurt? I know my sleeve might not like everything, but yogurt just seems too good of an option to give up right away. Thoughts/suggestions? -
So I was sleeved June 23rd. My starting weight was 346, I lost 18 pounds on my two week pre op, so surgery weight was 328. Exactly a week and 1 day out of surgery I lost down to 314, and my scale has not moved since, and I am now two weeks and two days post op. I can't really get my protein in since whey and dairy makes me so sick, but I've been trying to get in liquids and the occasional Greek yogurt (like 1 per day). I'm not really sure what to do and it feels like I am failing already, and with my high start weight this slow loss does not seem promising. Has anyone else experienced this? How did you break your stall when you can't have anything but protein shakes and yogurt? Thanks!
