    Protein Yogurt

For a protein bar, it is very hard to get them with less carb grams than protein grams. Those actually sound reasonable to me... assuming the fat grams are below 10.

Question for those a year or more out

I had RNY on 6/25/13 – so I am about 21 months out. I have never hit the point where I could no longer lose. After 12 months, it really slowed, but I still lost the last 10 pounds to my goal in my second year. I began my journey at 331 pounds (I am 5’2” and 50 years old) and this morning I weighed in at 120 pounds (that is 211 pounds lost!). My BMI is in the ‘normal’ range for the first time in my life! It is very possible to keep losing. To accomplish this I have drastically changed my lifestyle. I eat a lot of vegetables and fruit. I totally avoid fast food and as much processed food as possible. I often times workout three time a day (I do a morning workout on a Nordic Track ski machine, I walk about 3 miles at lunch whenever possible, and I go to the YMCA for classes several evenings a week). I love living a more active lifestyle! I love how it makes me feel! I have found that your body gets used to a certain level of exercise – you need to up the workouts if you want to keep the weight loss going. I use MyFitnessPal.com to track everything that I eat. This tool has been critical in my maintenance journey. If I had continued to follow my surgeon’s plan, I would have continued to lose weight and I got to a point that I no longer wanted to lose any more. Using MFP has helped me find the calorie and Protein point that keeps my weight the same. Best of luck to you! You have to work harder to lose the pounds after the first six months, but it IS possible to keep it going. I am living proof!! Carol

    confused about the approval process

@@losinglily - you will probably have to meet some requirements. I have BCBS Fed employee and 3 required classes, meeting with NUT and head doctor. It was after all of that was completed before the paperwork was submitted for approval to BCBS. That took about 10 days for the results to be back to me.

    Hypothyroid Sleevers?

Hello, I have hypothyroid post partial thyroidectomy. I primarily got this surgery to shock my body because it is very hard to loose weight when you have a low thyroid in my opinion. I did find the beginning to be slow and you are still swollen keep in mind. I lost between 2-10 lb per week for the first 6 months. It flew off the next 1.5 years and I hit many many stalls for 2-6 weeks long during that time. Stick to your program and you will see results catch up.

    Trying to sleep in pain!

I had my gastric sleeve surgery done on 11/01. When I came home the next afternoon, and settled down I was in my recliner. For my first 4 days my sleep pattern was messed up. Also I take a lot medication. After my surgery some of my meds were changed and some were discontinued. All of these changes caused sleep issues. I downloaded Sleep Pillow app on my iPhone. I pick out some soothing white noice such as “ocean waves”. I set the timer or leave it so it runs all night. Put the sound on low. I close my eyes and listen to the ocean waves and next then you know I’m out.

    New Orleanians & Neighbors?

I found your post from a year ago. I'm about to have my surgery on March 10 with Dr. Thomas at Southern Surgical Hospital. How did it all go for you? Are you glad you did it? Any words of advice you'd care to share as I am really starting to get nervous.

    100 pounds in one year

I disagree that this is an "unrealistic" expectation. I just think there are more factors to consider and it can be a completely realistic expectation. I think you need to look at what your total excess weight is (how much you need to lose), how you adjust to your band, how often you work out, and how often you "stray" from quality foods. Sometimes age can be a factor too. But the band is supposed to help people lose 50-60% of their excess--keep that in mind. Two things, IMHO, have helped me to lose as much as I have. First, you have to get your 60-70 g of Protein or your weight loss will stall. It has happened to me. The second... move your body. I work out 3-4 times a week for at least 45 min. I had to work up to that point. When I first started it was only 10 min. I have hit two plateaus so far in 11 months. That is when I know to step up my work out some. It has jump started my weight loss again. I have not hit 100 yet (so close), but I still have 5 weeks before my 1 year anniversary. Just be realistic and Celebrate all your successes!
  12. Hello Everybody!! So i'm booked for my VSG on June 15th with Dr. Alverez in piedras negras, MX. I'm 5'6 and my current weight is 200, I was wondering if anyone else had similar stats and had already had their surgery. Looking to find out what weight you got to after, if you had loose skin, or even if your just starting out it would be nice to have someone to share similar goals with. I've been told that my low goal should be about 10-20 pounds less then my comfortable weight because i will gain 10-20 pounds back when i got into maintenance so my low goal is 125-135. I'm hoping that when i hit maintenance i can put on 10-15 pounds of muscle, i know big goals a girl can dream right! Thanks!!
  13. I went to my consult with my doctor July 24th. I have been through my psych evaluation (only one required), went to one nutritionist appointment (I have 3 pre-op) and I have my appointment with the gastro doc on 8/27 (the EDG isn't scheduled yet - it will be after this appointment). I just want to get my date already! My insurance only requires a three month period but it still doesn't seem real until I know my date - and then I can go to my primary doc for the rest of the pre-op tests. I have lost 30 lbs since I started trying 7/14/19 to lose weight, because I wanted to be healthy. I'm happy I'm losing on my own but I'm ready for the next step. I feel like all I do is obsess about having the surgery and looking at everything about it, every day, from the procedure, vitamins, people's before and after pics, etc. I also don't want the doc to schedule my surgery for the date my father passed (10/21). I found out it would be a Monday and, sure enough, 10/21 falls on a Monday and I have this weird feeling that that will be my date. I hope I get a choice because I feel bad karma around that date. But I want it as soon as possible. Sorry, I just had to vent somewhere where people understand.

    Eating carbs

try to keep carbs to a minimum... one slice of regular bread has a ton of carbs in it as well as rice... Remember we are suppose to be making better choices on our diets especially during the 1st year to get the most weightloss possible. There are low carb breads out there. This is the one i get. I was able to eat breads/carbs around month 2-3 ish but i kept it to a minimum. But yea if you are not doing well yet with bread. Then give it some more time to heal. if you want try taking a tiny bite, waiting say 5-10 minutes and taking another small bite and see how you do.
  15. Hi Leigh, Mia I was banded in September in the UK (I live in Ireland). I had 4 stone to lose. By two weeks after the op I had lost 12 lbs about and was delighted. Then my appetite returned and I lost only 2 lbs more roughly between then and Xmas despite 3 fills (involving 3 treks to the UK). I must say I was beginning to lose hope until I had my 4th fill last week. Now suddenly I have serious restriction, almost too much in fact. Im back on Protein Shakes and have lost 4-5 lbs since last week. Im in no hurry to get a defill in order to get back on solids when the weight is coming off so nicely. Now in fairness I am exercising daily as well but am very happy to finally have restriction. (Im at 8.7 in a 10 ml band). My doctor was willing to give me an additional fill every 2 weeks until I got good restriction. The limitation was on my side due to the effort involved in going over and back to England. I would recommend to keep going back for the fills until you are in no doubt that you have restriction. Wishing you both the very best. Ellen

Keep me posted! I'm excited for you! -Dawn :biggrin2:

    New guys needs some advice

Don't stress out about it. Your body is still healing. Losing anything during the healing period is fabulous, let alone 10 lbs! :cursing: Just follow your dietary instructions, don't cheat, drink lots of water, walk and exercise as much as possible and it will come.

    Still on the fence....

Yeah, that sounds about right. You should try to find a doctor that will also give you the fills for free with that price. My doctor charges 15k for everything including all dr. visits and fills for a year. I think there is a doctor in Colorado that charges 10 or 11k for everything, but then you have to find a fill center around you. But, it might be work it if you save 5k. Yes, I'm glad I got the band. I'm very happy with my results so far and I'm still on my journey.

Questions About Removal Of Lap Band

  22. I was banded 8/05 and I still regret the day it was done. I have been miserable the entire time. I wanted this to work, but for me, it hasn't. I lost about 60 lbs and haved gained about 10 lbs back. I can't stand to have a fill because it causes me so much agony. I have to have my fill drained. I vomit continuously from eating broth and Jello and I don't think this is right. I think that I may just be a person that is not a good candidate. I understand that this is a life altering thing, but I eat more junk now than before because I can't get the good stuff to go down. I'm tired of hurting. I am happy for all of the success stories, but it makes me sad that my entire experience with the band has been horrible. I don't think that it is right to have to hurt everytime you try to eat something or have to run to the restroom to vomit after every bite. This is not healthy!! Also, I'm not particularly in love with my doctor because he tries to make me feel like I am the enemy instead of trying to understand why I feel the way I do. I have had the fluoroscope twice, but nothing really shows up. Regardless of what they say, I think something is wrong. I am waiting now to get approval from my insurance company. They paid 100% to have it done and now I hope they will do the same to have the reversal. I have been successful in the past with weight loss. After this reversal, I am looking forward to doing what I should have done at first - exercise, drink water and three healthy squares a day. If anyone else feels this way, please respond!

    Feeling Down

Melissa I can soooooooooooo relate. I feel like I have been stuck in the 240ish range for the last 10 years. When in fact it has only been for the last month. But it seems like a lifetime. One thing to remember is that yes your friend lost boat loads of weight fast but the key word there is FAST. This slow sometimes agonizingly slow process is the safest way to lose. It doesn't make the lack of scale movement any less tolerable. Take this time to look at the victories that don't require we measue the successes with a scale. You already mentioned the decrease in clothing size. What about walking without getting out of breath. More energy. Fitting into a chair without feeling like you are squeezed into it. Feeling sexier. Looking healthier and feeling healthier. Go get a manicure or pedicure and pamper yourself. Take a day or at least 15 min for YOU. Give yourself the praise that you deserve. We are all special and we will succeed at this journey. It will come Melissa. I have faith in all of us to accomplish our goals. It will come.

    Feeling Down

Melissa, do not let the numbers on the scale discourage you. I too have been stuck and I know I have been doing great with me eating and exercise. I know I have lost inches regardless of what the scale says. Sometimes our bodies just need a break, when I stop and think about it, my body has lost weight every week for 10 months...thats a long time , the scale is just taking a vacation right now and Iam ok with it....the last few lbs are always the hardest to lose..you will get there, remember this is a journey not a race. You have been successful so far and Iam sure you will continue to be, your body is probably just taking a time out right now too .What you are feeling, just know you are not alone we have all benn there or in my case Im right there with you
