Hi all! So I’m in need of some info.. are we low cal, low fat or low carb? See the reason I ask is because low carb is high fat, high protein.. but I thought fat was not good for us… now that I am almost 6 weeks out (Friday makes exactly 6 weeks) I’m feeling hungrier. I eat 5 small meals, but if I actually eat I’m looking at more calories. I’ve been creeping upwards around 950 calories a day. When I used to do keto, I never looked at calories. Help!

no more dairy...ugh! Breakfast?
pintsizedmallrat replied to pintsizedmallrat's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'll be honest I don't know---I can't emphasize enough this whole debacle has wreaked such havoc on my system (nearly making it impossible to eat or even drink fluids sometimes) that I'm really, really not looking to begin experimenting on how close I can get to the edge before I begin having problems. There have been times I have felt like I was wasting away vs losing weight--there have been days I haven't even broken 100 calories because of the discomfort and I felt sick, weak, and loopy. The good news is that since I eliminated dairy, whatever component of it is bothering me, I feel better than I have since 3 weeks after my surgery, so for now, anything milk-based is a full embargo. That is my personal decision based on the fact I'm just enjoying getting back to not feeling afraid everything I put in my mouth is going to hurt me. I'm sure it won't be that much of an impediment, there are lots of vegan sources of protein out there and at this point eating isn't really supposed to be fun. Tuna has been enjoyable and comfortable to eat and I think I may expand it into my breakfast regimen. -

Congrats! I’m one week post op and I am counting down the days until I can move on to purées 😂! I’ve seen a lot of people talking about the Eggface Ricotta Bake as a good purée dinner. I would love to hear other ideas as well! -
Finally see the light at the end of the tunnel...

My first post here after lurking for MANY months! I just had my appointment with my doctor after completing all my testing. It took me 2 1/2 months to get the appointment which was very frustrating. I'm glad I called to schedule it when I did! I had no idea how backed up she was due to Covid. She will be getting information from the hospital within the next two weeks for January OR availability and will be able to give me a surgery date soon. It feels like this process has taken forever! When I was done with all my pre-op labs/testing in the beginning of September and couldn't get an appointment till mid November, I started to lose focus. I couldn't even start to prepare myself dietwise and ate whatever I wanted. Now that I can see the end (or beginning depending on how you look at it), I am excited and can start my preparations. What did you do or not do to help prepare yourself prior to surgery? -
First meeting with dietitian later today

I'm surprised you aren't required to follow up regularly. Dietary counseling really should be both pre and post surgery. Merely being accountable and having to check in keeps one on the right path. A 25-lb loss is doable. I've lost 50+ over 6 months pre-op with rigorous attention to the high protein, low carb, low-fat food food plan they provided. I've stalled and It's gotten more difficult to follow the plan as I get closer to surgery, but I have not regained any of the loss. -

Good luck to everyone having their operations, I'm now one week out and apart from my stomach muscles still aching I'm feeling so much better. It's definitely worth it so far. -

I'm about 8 weeks post-op and I'm still learning my new "plumbing" and signals! It definitely takes some time. I think it gets a little easier once you move to soft foods; the liquid & puree phases are mostly to allow time for healing. Also, some people do have hunger sensations post-op, though it is uncommon, so don't be concerned if you don't completely lose those feelings. Continue to focus on fluid intake and resting, and give yourself time to learn your new body! -

I think a lot of us had that same worry. I'm here to tell you that the eating habits DO change. Sometimes, if I'm out, I'll order food like The Before Times... and then after a few bites I'm all "yeah, not doing this". Tonight there was cake. I had a few bites and pushed the rest away. The old me would have et the whole dang thing and gone for seconds (and possibly thirds). The whole point of the surgery, really, is to give you a tool that makes it a bit easier to develop better habits. You know how when you start a diet pre-op, and the first week or few days you're ALL IN on the diet, and the weight starts to come off, and you feel like you can just DO this? Now imagine that for six months. Or a year. Because the weight will just come off. Especially for us—it is, unfairly, still easier and faster for male bariatric patients to lose than female (in general). By the time the weight loss slows down, the habits you need are ingrained. -
I think what you’re feeling is pretty normal prior to a big surgery. I went from being super excited to two days before the surgery being weepy and crying thinking what if something happened and I would leave my two kids behind? My youngest hasn’t even turned one and it killed me to think I wouldn’t be able to pick her up for a couple of weeks after the surgery. Well here I am 3 weeks later, no complications, super easy recovery and down 24lbs. Just think about why you’re doing this and how far you’ve come in the process and that should give you the extra push you need.

You might be in a stall. They happen. They're frustrating. And they all break. Just keep following your plan. If you're truly stuck for like a month, then ask your nutritionist about shock calories—a week of an extra 100-150 calories to get your body to think something else is happening. Are you measuring yourself? When I hit my three-week stall, the inches kept coming off even though the scale change was pokey.

Congratulations to everyone who has been scheduled! I'm hoping it goes well! I had my first week post op appointment today, I've to go back in three weeks for the switch to the soft food diet. I was cleared to start taking multivitamins and also to start the pureed diet come the weekend. I think the first thing I want to try is a scrambled egg mixed with cheese. -
You may be slipping up in minor ways that add up in the long run. Weigh and measure everything. Track your food on an app like Baritastic. It will keep you aware of what you are actually eating. You could also try resetting your set point by returning to all liquids, and build up again to solid foods over several weeks. If you have achieved your goal and stayed there for a while, a bit of weight gain is quite normal.

Any October 2021 Surgeries?

I know the first two weeks are bad. Have you tried taking smaller bites and putting down your fork in between? It made the difference for me. My surgery was 10/25 -
I'm on the full liquid pre- op started officially this morning. Surgery on the 30th November. I was doing so good good today creamed soup n all(no chunks). Took a nap woke up and grabbed peanut butter on a piece of bread I threw half of it in toilet because I feel like I've failed. Can I get through the next two weeks like this? Anyone else have mess ups and turned them around? Cyndi Sent from my SM-A125U using BariatricPal mobile app

Anyone else having VSG end of Nov 2021?
jjaaww77 replied to Elaine77's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes!! Day 1 was gas in my stomach, chest etc but I walked every 2 hours and it went away. Then my forearms hurt the night I got home so I called the doctor and they said it was normal from the IVs. It went away next day. Day 4 post op went by like a breeze. No pain (just soreness when I get up) and no nausea. Puréed stuff is going down fine. I didn’t have a liquid diet, just 2 meal replacement smoothies and a light meal for 2 weeks before. -
I'm two months out and three small "gulps" seems to be my limit, but I can take those sets of three gulps pretty close together now.

I had a heart issue after my surgery so I am just on my way home from the hospital now after a week. I felt pretty good after 2 days but had to stay in the hospital until they found a drug that would work for me. Water is going down easily and I’m on full liquids. I don’t think I lost anything in the hospital with the IVs. -

I'm in the same general area—3 to 5 pounds a week. It won't last forever, though, so enjoy it while it does.

GERD after Revision! Please help!
joeyangel99 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I had my revision from sleeve to bypass on 10/27/21, only 3 weeks ago. I also had hiatal hernia repair, and gallbladder removal all at once. I am feeling good, no vomiting. Still on liquid stage, proceeding to soft solids soon. However, I am feeling GERD again! and worried the revision will not successfully resolve this frustrating issue. The nurse said to give it time. Did anyone have GERD weeks after their revision surgery? If so, did it resolve with time? Please I need some feedback! Thanks! -
Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum and would love some input into the concerns I have which pertain to my weight loss/progress. So I am 28 weeks post-op as of tomorrow and I feel as though my weight loss is a little slow. So far I have lost 4 stone and 8lbs (64 pounds) but I am struggling to hit the five stone mark. On Facebook, I am part of a group that has new and post-op patients from the clinic that I did my surgery with but everyone’s progress seems to be much better than mine. I am 24, 5ft 4 and my starting weight was 21 stone. I am grateful to be currently 16 stone 13lbs but I feel as though I should be loosing more. Am I worrying too much, or would you all agree with me? All replied appreciated 😊
