  1. I am almost three weeks post surgery and been given the clear to eat anything that I can chew to the consistency of cottage cheese (that is ACTUALLY what the document said). So my question is this - how is it that I can eat 4 spoonfuls of cottage cheese and feel painfully full, but eat like ten bites of noodles (bad idea, I know) and I don't feel full at all? That doesn't make sense to me. Is it because noodles are less dense? I am worried that I have stretched my stomach out already - HELP!! I mistakenly ate 4-5 too many bites of Soup the other day and was in soo much pain - I am really stressing that I am damaging my stomach because of this learning curve. Jen

    Losing Confidence in Office Staff

:faint: I keep being told by the staff at my surgeon's office that they don't have the results for tests I have had done. SO I have had them re-faxed to them TWICE. They still say they don't have them. I finally spoke to someone else today and she says they DO have them. But it seems the surgery coordinator doesn't. (??!!) SO I'm thinking I have it all straitened out and today I get int he mail that the recent blood tests they had me do show I am low in B12. WITH another note saying they have not gotten the test results for this blood work. YEESH! I had that test done 2 weeks ago, and how would they know I was low in B12 if they didn't get those test results? I called and left a message saying just that. All of this is really making me lose confidence in the office staff and am worried about the surgery coodinator having all the facts of why I need this surgery before submitting to insurance.
  3. Thanks for the replies all. I went to Costco yesterday and bought it. It was 160 calories, not 100, which is what I wanted. I guess it is a special formula just for Costco. I saw the premier there but went with the muscle milk. I have now had 3 of them today, with 2 more to go, and I have to say, that the muscle milk is the best protein shake I've ever tried, I absolutely love it. It tastes too good to be true and is just yummy overall, almost like a real milkshake. I am very happy with my choice.
  4. Because I get over technical, I'm still not quite sure what a slider food is. And really, the patients of these procedures largely make this up as they go. So it's just some word someone threw out to mean something at some point in time, that has probably been grossly bastardized since then. I've seen some people say that chips are a slider, or watermelon. Well, both chips and watermelon chew up to almost nothing. So in terms of raw volume, there's a lot. But in terms of the volume it takes up in your sleeve, there's not much at all. To me, that would NOT be a slider because it's not "bypassing" your restriction, you just have to eat a large raw volume of it to occupy the same space as something that did not mash up so much. That rationale seems kind of like saying "cotton candy is a slider because I could eat a whole tub" (even though the melted volume was maybe 1 tablespoon). To me, a slider would be something that retained most of its volume, but did not trigger your full sensation, or restriction, or whatever. Like let's say -- eggs. If I could eat 3 eggs, but only 1 piece of beef, I'd probably consider eggs a slider food.

    Gallbladder Symptoms

No, it's about the same. I started having those symptoms 3 weeks after surgery and has to have my gallbladder removed. The surgeon said it looked bad once he got in there.

    Food prep

I food prep for the week but since surgery i am Finding that I make too much for my family and often have to throw food out. Part of the problem is we are not always eating the same thing so I still cook as though I am feeding 5 people in stead of 4. Anyone else find this an issue? And if so were you able to eventually stop over preparing as tome went on? How many you vets still food prep???

A little love for post VSG surgery patients with kids.

Thanks for the kudos! I am in this group - every day since surgery I have made a meal for my husband and son and then had something else to eat myself. I'll be glad when I can go back to a full diet in 2 weeks so I can make healthy meals all 3 of us can enjoy together once in awhile! :-)
  8. Have you ladies tried the Mio drops? I like them because I can add a couple of drops to a bottle of water, or really flavor it up if I wish. Wally World has them in the drinks section for around $3. They look tiny, but a bottle will last me for more than a case of water. I don't like the crystal light and other drink mixes because they never seem to dissolve.
  9. I live in SC and had VSG done in Mexico. I came home and went to my PCP just so she could check me out and I could touch base with her and she would be in the loop. She was great. She thought I was a little crazy for going out of country but was very supportive,. My surgeon gave me all the info I needed to share w/ my PCP. He (my surgeon) asked that I have blood work done in 3 months and then every 6 months. He gave his e-mail and asked that the results be sent to him. I'm sure that he will communicate with my PCP if he sees a problem. I can also e-mail my surgeon if I have any questions between now and then ( I had my surgery 6/27/12). So far so good. I hope this helps. There are probably a lot more people out there that have more experiance and better suggestions.

    Any "60s" with low BMI?

I was sleeved 3/11 I'm now 61. Had a sliding esophageal hernia. (in abdomen and chest-) That was the worst part. . Doing well right now. Going on 6 weeks. I feel for you and your band. I had a hard time with deciding to go with a band or do the sleeve. I did have 2 drains for 10 days. I am still glad I chose the sleeve! Message me--I will be happy to share experience.

    How much is too much

Most drs don't require you to stop drinking before and after a shake since it is liquid. I had the same question for my nutrionist. She said just not to drink Water DURING the shake. The only way I could get fluids in in the beginning was to use a one ounce medicine cup and set the timer on my phone for every 5 minutes and take a sip of that cup (only like 1/3rd). That way I was making sure to get 1 ounce every 15 minutes. It gets easier fast. I could only drink 4 ounces per hour the first week but it quickly progressed to 8 ounces per hour the next week or so and now I can drink 16 -20 ounces an hour (if I am concentrating). I still have to set the timer on my phone for every 3 minutes or so when I am behind and take a sip. Hope that helps! Congrats!

    Well I did it today!

@athena3127 good for you for taking the step for exercise!! Careful I find when I am going regularly I crave it more!! LOL I'm just back to the gym this week since not going for two weeks and I can feel it in my shins, but I ended up doing more miles in less time so I was happy.
  14. I'm just about six months out, and I'm in my first stall. At this point, I'm pretty comfortable with it because I think my body is exhausted from losing weight. I am grateful that i made it into the 100s before the stall happened, however. If I were waiting for the 100s I would probably be singing a different song.

Stalled? or is my body just freaking out?

I don't think weighing every day is a good idea. I weigh twice a week, but will eventually go to once a week. There are too many variables at play with your weight and you can easily become discouraged, by not seeing progress. Twice a week will give you s few days of accumulated loss to show. Good luck and keep with the plan and you will be fine!

    BCBS Oregon - Timeframe

    To all the stallers....

Since month 3 I've lost 10-12 lbs quickly then stalled for 2-3 weeks and then started the cycle over. It's frustrating but the loss does begin again. Don't panic, Kaehl. Try shaking things up as others have said. I broke my first stall by adding a protein snack and upping my calories. I just broke my most recent stall by upping water beyond the required 64 oz.

    Sick when drinking water

I experienced something similar 3 weeks post op. I let myself get so dehydrated I was re admitted to the hospital. Turns out I had a moderate stricture Call your doctor- at the very least you need help hydrating. I can speak from experience that waiting will only make it worse
  20. I had my surgery on June 11 so I'm 5 weeks post op. I too was very anxious prior to surgery, but i want to tell you... it really wasn't so bad. With the techniques they use now, recovery is quicker and easier. And post op you get 'the button' for pain..I was encouraged to use it as much as i needed. To be honest the toughest part was not being able to drink water for 24 hours and that's not so bad.....Good luck tomorrow.... by the way I've lost 33lbs since I started the liquid diet on June 1. The Sleeve is the best thing I've ever done for my health.

    Approved Today

After bugging BCBS of IL and TeamCare, I was approved. My dr's office submitted everything last week on 4/3/18 and I was approved today! I am so overjoyed. Cannot wait to talk to my Dr's office and get this surgery scheduled. My son graduates from college on 5/12 so I'm going to wait until after his graduation to have it done. I cannot wait. I'm so thrilled! Literally feels like there is light at the end of the tunnel.

19 Days Post No Loss Is 6

Actually..... it was my mistake - the 3 week stall does happen at 3 weeks - and lasts for different lengths of time - I misinterpreted (msp?) your question. my goof kathy

    Eating too soon?

A bananna is mushy but not a slider. It will stick in your stomach and your stitches can break if you put too much pressure on the pouch. That is why my doctor told me to stay on liquids for 3 weeks. Be careful to not over stuff the pouch and count calories!!!
