Fluids is NOT going down well.
atlmag replied to LACRACRA2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same way right after surgery, I preferred the CL after surgery till around 10 weeks, at that point I switched to water because I just didn't like it or got tied of it. Since then it's been the water and just had a glass of CL on a couple of occasions. Sent from my Nexus 6 using the BariatricPal App -
How long did it take from Seminar to Lap Banding?
whitetiger011680 replied to abqann's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow! you were all approved/banded so quickly! It was 10 months for me. My insurance required a 6 month Dr. supervised diet before I would be considered and then they too their sweet a$$ time approving me. Started my process Sept. 2010 and banded on July 28th 2011. -

Seriously... holy guac! I am down to a size 8 or 10 depending. Also, we leave for our honeymoon on Monday and we will be headed to Hawaii! This is the first time in about 12 years that I will be comfortable wearing a bikini. I have some yucky skin, but nothing too crazy. Thinking of getting the Sleeve ... need more info
chargers56 replied to Kikiphiasmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok! So I received my packet today from Kaiser. It comes with a 23 page booklet about the whole process. Also a Bariatric Pre-Program questionnaire. Im a bit worried from some of the stuff I have read in the booklet. For example, they want me to show proof I have been on a program for at least 6 months in the last 10 years. Well years ago my old doctor put me on Medifast and I went to some support meetings for it. I was able to lose weight over a course of 8 months but I gained it all back. They charted our success at the meetings, but I wasn't given any documentation on letterhead or anything like that. Ive also done HMR supplements last year and lost 25 lbs and gained it back. I'm worried I don't have the proper documents they are looking for. Also im a bit nervous with this questionnaire. I'm afraid if i answer wrong ill get turned down. It also says a BMI of 50 or 40 with 2 morbiditys. Im 38BMI and I have hypertention but it is not severe, and the booklet says severe. I do have gerd, sleep apena and joint and back pain. And some depression from my weight. Any advice you can give me if you have filled this out for kaiser before would be helpful. Id like to know what happens when I bring this in. I feel like its my only chance and I dont want to mess it up. -
First day of pre-op diet!
chickadee replied to pixiesmurf's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sit in an office all day. That is partly to blame for all the weight i put on the last 10 years. My friends at work even threw a "lifestyle wake" for me at work today with all my fav foods. They called it phat friday. -
First day of pre-op diet!
newlife27 replied to pixiesmurf's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is 10 days but i don't have my date yet my surgeon already told me its gonna be 10 tho -
I'm two years out, and have held steady, but gained 10 pounds these last few months. I would be happy to lose some more, or just stay were I am. I don't eat exactly the way my surgeon originally told me to, lots of Protein. I feel like I'm sort of confused on what I should be doing at this point. Is there anyone out there who has done Weight Watchers after a sleeve? What are people doing that is working for them? I know exercise is the one thing I need to get going on.

Hi! I went to an informative meeting last night at a Boston hospital and heard more about banding and bypass. I was shocked, however, to hear that the stay at that particular hospital for Banding was "same day". Are there any on the forum who went home the same day? I really would prefer to stay and be watched at least overnight with my high blood pressure. So tomorrow I am going to another facility to see what their policies are. Also, (as I briefly mentioned in another thread) the one last night required a 10% pre-op weight loss before they will even touch you. If I could lose 10% of my weight with all the programs I have tried, I wouldn't even be considering Banding. Is that a requirement for ALL facilities? After hearing about GB and LB, the LP surgery is definitely the one I am going to pursue. singingintherain

I hear you. I really feel like this last 10 months while possibly a little easier just because I'm not as hungry has been difficult. I hate not being able to eat larger quantities of food. I finally lost a few lbs this week but I've really had to work hard on the exercise and calorie counting to do it. I've lost 52 lbs in 10 months. I wouldn't say that is fast at all. That is average. I need to really move my butt now for the rest of my weight to come off. This definitely isn't easy. Julie

This is more for the Americans... cause I know what the average gas prices are here in Canada. Right now, in my town, gas is $1.11 (CDN) a litre. That works out to $3.75 (US) a gallon. Is it that expensive for you guys? Isn't it terrible... when I got my license, about 10 years ago, I remember buying gas for 49-55 cents a litre. My how things change. Cigarettes were also about $5 a pack, and now they're at least $11. I'm only 25, and I can already talk about how cheap things were when I was young! lol Geesh! Mandi

Hi there! Welcome to LBT :girl_hug: I was banded in Oct 2005 @ 234 lbs. My highest was 255, it took me 6 mo to consider the options... in the end my decision was based on it being the most permanent weight loss option I could find at the time. Approx 2-3 weeks before surgery I did a high protein/low carb diet to help shrink my liver (so it would give the Dr more room to move around in there) which helped me lose 10-15 lbs of Water weight. Although, I've only lost 60 lbs (I'm not the model bandster) I feel good about where I'm at and have the tool I need to continue my efforts. On a daily basis I get compliments from people at work, and just the other day one person said they've noticed how well I've been able to keep it off. It's all due to the band. There's no way I would have been able to keep it off on my own. Can't help you with the insurance question, I was self pay and would do it all again. I would encourage you to go thru the steps, try to see if it would be covered.... many insurance companies do cover it. This site is a wealth of information, you'll read about the many different side effects you can expect MIGHT happen. I, personally, did not experience any horrible side effects... but your abdomen is very sore the first few days, you might have gas pains, and you'll need lots of rest. If your family is supportive, you can always begin practicing the post surgery routine early... you'll need to give the childcare over to your husband for a couple of days. Fills... depends on how fast you want to lose. If you check my signature, you'll see I was real conservative... only getting .5 each time I went. I did not always have the luxury of going as often as I would have liked (ran out of vacation time). My fills were free for the 1st year and I have not had one in some time.... but, I am at a comfortable level. However, I know I need to get back in for another fill to kick start my loss again. So, I would say the best thing you can do for yourself is to be an active participant in this process... stay active here and you'll learn a bunch! all the best,

Ok, I went to my PCP for pre-op check-up and medical clearance. Well, earlier in the morning (10:00) I had gone in for my Upper GI. When I called the hospital's scheduling department, I asked them how long it would take as I was leaving work in the middle of the day. I was told "about an hour." Based on that info, I also scheduled a loan closing for 12:00. Well, three hours later I finally left the hospital. I had to call my client and postpone the closing, plus I felt like had thrown my employees under the bus after being gone for so long. Sooo, I get back to work about 2:30, only to have to leave and be at the Dr's office by 4:00 for my appointment. The MT checks my vitals and lo and behold, my blood pressure is something like 196/103! Given that I have a history of high blood pressure, the fact that I was still extremely upset over the events of the day didn't deter my PCP from refusing to sign my clearance paperwork. He added another BP med to the two I'm already taking (and maxed out on) and told me to come back on Monday. If the BP is down to a more normal level, he'll clear me for surgery. So here's my question. What are some safe ways I can lower my BP before I go in on Monday afternoon? I don't want to do anything that would be "deceitful" as going into surgery with BP that high would be dangerous. But I do want it to be low enough to be cleared, then I can concentrate on keeping it down for surgery. Any suggestions? :help:

How long did it take from Seminar to Lap Banding?
CharmaneFischer replied to abqann's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hubby and I went to the seminar at Ellis Hospital last night and we are both very impressed with it all. We have a ton of paperwork to fill out but can call the office today after 10 am to schedule our first appointment. I just need to call our insurance to see what is covered and if we need referals. We are shooting for the first of the year and we were all told we need to lose 10% of our weigth but they will help. I am very excited to get this started. -
SO, I am having this battle within myself... I don't want to tell anyone that I am having the band done. WHY? I don't know, well I hate that for an answer, "I don't know" that is not any sort of an answer. I am going to try and answer that WHY? I think it is because I am ashamed and concerned about how people will look at me. I at times feel this is the easy way out, which I know it isn't. I have not been over weight my entire life, in fact it has been really about 4-5 years. And even though I am overwieght, I am still very active. I remember what one of my husbands friend said to me not that long ago, "You are a big girl but I would still take you hiking/camping, you would be able to keep up." I thought how rude. But that is when I realized that I was in fact big. I wore a size 14 at the time. Now after the baby I am a size 16-18. I feel trapped and this is the only thing I can think of to fix it. Diets and the gym are not working, diet pills are not the fix, I want a long lasting healthy lifestyle. I am afraid to tell people like my Mom, who is also over weight. I know that she will judge me. I suppose it is better to be judge for being proactive than not doing anything at all. I am not one of those people that eat a lot, she says, "I can't believe how big you are you eat like a bird." Well night shift for over 10 years had something to do with it. But I finally broke down and told a close friend. She was very supportive and helpful. My husband of course knows and he is also very supportive. It is just this little thing in my head not allowing me to open up to others. Maybe it is a defence mechanism? My surgery date is coming up July 23 and I am nervous but excited as well. I can't wait to start my new life, being healthy and doing what is right for me. It is about time I start to worry about me, I don't think I have ever really done that. It has always been about helping others. I just realized that as I wrote, thank you.
