Good morning Beautiful People! I was wondering how many ladies on here had surgery and had PCOS? I've been trying to conceive for 10 years now. My GYN told me my fertility should shoot up 10 fold (what 10 times nothing? lol) so my hubby and I should be careful. My main reason for having this surgery was to get healthy enough so that I could finally conceive. We're holding for for 12-18 months depending on my weight loss. We just bought a brand new 5 bedroom house. Praying I can turn one of these rooms into a nursery next year. Would love to hear your journeys!

Weight loss keeps stalling
FancyChristine15 replied to jyro47's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wouldn't say that not losing one week, losing ten pounds the next week, then not losing again the next week is a stall. You lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks, which is great! Lately, I've been losing 4-5 pounds one week, then nothing the next week, and so on and so on. A stall is when you don't lose for weeks at a time. You're doing great. Don't worry. -
Had my new baby tuneup 10/24/18! It’s an amazing feeling not being able to eat because your bored or stressed. It’s nice to be able to cleanse your body and start fresh. Not easy but a good feeling.

Not loosing weight and feeling helpless
FancyChristine15 replied to Rj’s mommy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't think that 10 pounds in 3 weeks is bad at all. I've lost 1 pound in the last 3 weeks (I'm thinking my issue is a new medicine that I was on), but I would be excited to lose 10 pounds in 3 weeks. Keep your chin up, and keep doing what your doctor advises; the weight will continue to come off. -
I am 10 weeks post op and still struggle wit fluids. It has everything to do with temperature / texture of the fluid. Some days I can only handle hot fluids, others room temperature, and yet more often than not lately ice ice cold. Additionally somedays I can drink tap water, others it has to be quality bottled water (can't be dasani or zephrhills). It's all trial and error and somedays / weeks it's more error than trial.

New here! Anyone going for surgery in January 2019??
Frustr8 replied to Amy Marie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm in Central Ohio so much south of your daughter, maybe 75-80miles, last time I pulled up Akron , milesvwere approx. 80. My small city is Mount Vernon, pop 20,000, known for the birthplace of Daniel Decatur Emmett, the guy who wrote Dixie and was a minstrel/ vaudeville performer back in the day, Dr. Semple,, a dentist who invented chewing gum as an exercise for his dental patients and was dumb enough to sell out to Wrigley, and the late Actor Paul Lynde, among, other roles he was Uncle Arthur back on Bewitched, and Me. I have lived my whole life in Central Ohio, within a 50-60 mile radius of here. Daddy's family were from one county south, and Mama's from this and the county just to the Northwest. Yeah the roots run deep here. Been here since Indian days, my ancestors were probably the settlers that ran them out. Did you know Ohio is the only state without some sort of tribal reserve. And if you've heard the term " ----in the woodpile, I am virtually sure there are original Native,American. Mr supposition? Well you look AT my family on Daddy's side, the pictures it looks stronger and stronger! Well I am red-blonde, fairly fair skinned, talk for a woman so don't like them, favor my Mama's side, shoot some of them doubted I was Daddy's child. So what do I have to lose by asking? Asked one of Daddy's sisters, she puffed out her chest, drew up to her full 5ft6in height and announced WE DO NOT DISCUSS THAT! Hmmn the pliy thickens, do you have Wikipedia on either your smartphone or computer? If you do, go there and key in "Peoria Indians" the vast amount are now located in Oklahoma. Once upon a time Ohio had a tribe called the Mingo. At the Battle of Fallen Timbers when Ohio basically evicted the Indians off the lands the Great Spirit had entrusted to them, they moved West and merged with Peoria in Illinois. Okay if you gave pulled that website entry on Wikipedia, look at a pleasant middle-aged lady there, spitting image of Daddy's sister, the one who was SO ANGRY at her Frustr8 niece for bringing up the subject. I'm so diluted myself with settler blood maybe 1/16 or so, but it's nothing to be ashamed of, just means I have a little more rights to be here than average. Kent State is an excellent university, have a cousin that received his Masters from there. Case Western Reserve has a great medical school and and I think there is one billed as Medical College of Northeastern Ohio. I had my RNY at Ohio State university in Columbus, which is 48 miles Southwest of here, no Bariatrics in Mount Vernon as yet, May be 2019 or 2020. Every time I frequent my local ER which I do no more than necessary, they do not quite know what to do with me, like a purple spotted giraffe, I am fascinating. The staff has seen a few lapbands, fewer yet sleeves, but I think I am the only bypass they ever have been close to. And I am getting tired of doing tutorials. -
Not loosing weight and feeling helpless

I am 10 weeks post op and my weight loss has been slower than a turtle. But please remember, you did not gain this weight overnight and these surgeries are not miracle workers. They are tools that we have opted to get to help us lose weight. The weight loss process still lies in our hands. We are responsible for ensuring we follow and maintain a healthy diet and get adequate fluid / water intake (upwards of 100+ oz per day) including protein intake (minimum 60 oz per day or whatever set forth by your surgeon and nutrition team. I've shared the following photo several times on many forums throughout BP - and it's a great reminder that we are still very early into this and our weight loss thus far is on track for the "average" person. Remember (as often I am reminded) it's a marathon, not a sprint race. The longer we continue with a slower weight loss, the longer it will remain off (assuming we follow the plan given to us). -
11 weeks post op and only lost 10 pound
MargoCL replied to sohappyitsgone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How many calories are you taking in each day? Can you give an example of what you are eating? First of all, don't compare yourself to other people. Everyone loses differently. A lot of dependent on rest, calories in / calories out, physical exercise, protein / water. I'm 10 weeks post op and down a total of 37 lbs since the day before Preop started and 20lbs from Surgery day. Are you following your diet? Getting enough protein, liquids, sleep each day? I can tell you that if I sleep less than 8 hours I will wake up and have gained weight. Additionally if I don't get my minimum water intake, I gain weight. I eat 4 - 6 small meals per day, up to 800 KCAL per day. The smaller meals help me ensure I get enough protein and keep my fluids easier. It's not uncommon to stall on weight loss after WLS as your body becomes accustomed to the changes. -
11 weeks post op and only lost 10 pound
sohappyitsgone posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So frustrated and depressed. It’s been 11 weeks - first two weeks I lost 9 pound. Went back a month later for check up and lost 1.8 pound. Last two weeks nothing. Dietician told me that I am not eating enough so I tried to eat more and put on two pounds. I see videos on YouTube of other people at 11-12 weeks being 40-60 pounds down and talking about only being able to eat five small bites. I don’t seem to have that restriction at all and could eat a full meal if unwanted but just nothing tastes good anymore. Can’t eat yoghurt or milk as it makes me sick now. Just nothing tastes like anything anymore. I cooked a huge pot of cabbage and chicken broth and basically live in that. But still not losing. Just feel so depressed and that this was such a waste of money and time. And now my hair is falling out in handfuls. Ughhhh -

And may you be healthier than a lab 🐀 rat, may all your testing be smooth and sleek, and you'll keep moving towards surgery! Now after 10 vials, they will announce you are slightly anemic, could it be from excessive blood drawn off? Hmmn just could be!🎃😛💕 -

Good morning gang. So this morning I went to get my labwork out of the way. I had lab orders from my PCP and then also from the surgeon.......10 freaking vials of blood. 3 of them had to be frozen and then another one of them was not allowed to see the light so had to be covered immediately. So weird. Anyway, what a cluster!@#$ it was with the woman at the desk trying to sort 2 different orders. LOL I should have just gone to a lab, but went to the hospital to get it all done instead because I had to go to work and the lab at the hospital opens at 6:30. Perfect for me. And since it was fasting, boy did that coffee that I had waiting in the car taste extremely good afterward! LOL -
Bariatric sells protein in 1 oz shots. Maybe give that a try? I bought 10 to start. Good luck!

New here! Anyone going for surgery in January 2019??
Boldilocks replied to Amy Marie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello! I am halfway hrough my 6 months of hoop-jumping and was just given a surgery date of Feb 5th 2019. I imagine the time will go quick enough - it doesn't feel like I'm halfway through already (more actually - I did my consult in June but couldn't start my weigh-ins until August because I go home every year for the summer to Ireland). I will have all my extra appointments to keep me busy (nutritionist, psych eval, EKG, etc), plus this is a busy time of year anyway. I'm trying to think back to when I was 6 months pregnant and had 3 more to go - all that waiting, and trying to make use of the time left. I have started a major purge of my house so that it'll be a lot easier to keep clean for my family as I recover (though they suck at helping, I'll probably just hire a cleaner. But at least my mess will be less embarrassing). It's a sort of enforced nesting really. -
You can do it!! And believe me - I wish I had done it YEARS ago! I’m only 19 days post-op and I feel great! The first 4-5 days were tough because of nausea and heartburn - but since then I’ve been great! And I’d take a few days of feeling crappy for a lifetime of being healthy any time!! I think everyone gets pre-surgery jitters but you’ve got this! Good luck!! 👍

Gee mine is so minor compared to yours. You see I DO NOT REMEMBER the Recovery Room, first surgery I had like that, and I have been "put out" maybe 10,times. Must have had me snowed under good, maybe in an avalanche? I felt so GOOD when I woke in my room I pulled up my gown to boob level to make sure I had actually had surgery, no incision pain, if it hadn't been for the six with steri-strips criss-crossed and the one in my navel that was dried and bloody, then I said to my son "Yeah They did after all do SURGERY" That's me, just a bundle of sparkling, wit, well Dr Needleman😷 did get me up at 3 am to make his 1st case of the morning deadline. I didn't feel like putting on tap shoes and dancing💃 around the unit quite yet. Little did I know I wouldn't get,out of my room until I was released. But every surgeon thinks differently, apparently he felt that my room wasbsafer than me traipsing all around. Hey No Big Thing in the Scheme of Things , is it_??

I don't think I'm ready ):
nibble replied to CashmereAndBones's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@CashmereAndBones. I'm 70, and 14-15 weeks post-op. I wasn't ready for this surgery five years ago - felt I would be losing control, would be forced into a cage where I could no longer have what I wanted when I wanted. The thoughts left me angry and rebellious. I wanted to have my coffee, and I love to cook and bake, and I wanted to make the rules for my life. I was in denial Big Time, and unable to see food was in control of me; I was not in control at all !!! At a seminar I learned that obesity is a disease, and that changed my thinking entirely. Being fat was no longer all my fault. If I had some other disease, wouldn't I seek treatment? Well, yes! So why wouldn't I seek help for this disease, too? And all the things I'd have to give up -- well, I learned that would be temporary. Temporary I can live with, I said. So, 100 days post-op I can have coffee, and enjoy it, but don't need to drink it all day long. The first month I had cravings, like pizza. Recently I had pizza and it was a disappointment! My tastes have changed, and that's OK, and I don't miss the things I thought I would. I have fun redoing recipes so they are low cals/carbs and higher protein. I add protein to everything I eat or drink. This new system is working. Amazing! I also know that if you aren't happy with what you're doing you won't continue doing it. That applies to whatever your decision is - to stay with your current situation, or the decision to have surgery and carve out a healthier lifestyle. I have maybe 10-15 years left, but they will be the best years ever. Keep thinking and talking and reading. You will know when you're ready. -
I had surgery 10/3 and I thought I would have lost more weight by now, only 10lbs I don’t know what to do now I don’t even what to eat or drink Anything hoping this wasn’t pointless I will start working out this week and hope things Change

Officially down 20 pound since surgery (10/2)!! I've been feeling good. Still dealing with water intake and exhaustion. Also learning how to overcome some mental obstacles such as putting myself in food oriented situations but not eating. I technically get cleared for all food tomorrow but still not fully comfortable with the pureed stage, so I don't see myself moving along quite yet. I hope all my fellow early October sleevers are doing well! Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hey Vicky, I was sleeved 10/23. I had the nausea real bad too and still do if I take my vitamin. Tomorrow I get to start the soup phase, so I will retry the vitamins then. Nothing is worse than nausea, imho NOTHING. So sorry you are going through that. My surgeon prescribed me chewable nausea pills, and even suppositories if it got bad. I haven't turned to those yet and do not intend to, lol. But if yours is that bad, there are more options/help for you and you should call and ask for something better for relief. Hang in there, my friend!!!!!

Spooky Halloween Tales from the Darkside of Bariatric Surgery Appeals
Walter Lindstrom posted a blog entry in Walter Lindstrom's Bariatric Insurance Blog
The ghouls and goblins don't just knock on your door yelling "Trick Or Treat"! They sometimes reside in the so-called "Customer Service" departments of health insurers, proving on a daily basis that they are not interested in their Customers and not usually capable of providing Service. We thought some of these stories, and we have oodles of them, made for an appropriately ghastly Halloween blog. Make sure you read all the way to the end so you can see what the Devil has in store for some of these folks in the insurance industry! "I don't have to give you any information about your appeal!" While this particular horror story involved an Aetna appeal years ago, problems like this happen all the time and we still can substitute the name of nearly every other major insurer for Aetna and have a similar tale to tell. Kelley was following up on an appeal we filed and was requesting confirmation that things were in process and inquiring about the status. The "Customer Service" person simply refused to provide any information despite confirming were the appealing patient's representative. So what......she just wasn't going to give any information to our office. Many reading this will know how incredibly nice Kelley is. If you don't know her then you can be certain her reputation for patience in matters like this is beyond dispute. Since this representative obviously wasn't going to budge Kelley calmly requested to speak to a supervisor. That's when things got interesting. The representative refused to transfer the call, stating the issue "did not rise to the level of involving a manager." A full thirty minutes later, after repeatedly demanding to speak with a supervisor and ultimately threatening to file a complaint with the Massachusetts Department of Insurance, Kelley was finally transferred to a Supervisor's voicemail, who got an earful of "message" from our office concerning what occurred. Kelley suggested the Supervisor listen to the recording of her exchange with the service representative because (don't forget) "this call may be recorded for quality assurance purposes." When the Supervisor called Kelley back she profusely apologized and confirmed the customer service personnel are required to transfer the member to a supervisor immediately upon request and that the representative was way out of line. The happy ending to the story is ultimately that Aetna approved the RNY gastric bypass that was the subject of our appeal! "I'm sorry but you don't have any right to appeal or obtain an IRO of this denial." There are some insurers who try to eliminate patient rights to appeal, especially appeals occurring before the surgery takes place. Some denials are labeled as coming from "courtesy reviews" with no appeals available. (I personally find it interesting they use the term "courtesy review" when they rarely do much of a "review" and hardly ever show any "courtesy" . . . but I digress. . . .) BCBS of Alabama is among a number of payers who sometimes try to bar appeals. It is very rare that appeals are not available prior to having surgery so don't just accept their statements as being true. We know when they are playing games and most of the time companies (like BCBS of Alabama) end up processing the appeal and when (shock of shocks) they tell us the member appeal was denied, we request an "external review." BCBS of Alabama, of course, has an unusually high level of incompetence so we should not have been shocked their response was that the member actually did not have external review available because the denial we received resulted from (you guessed it) a "courtesy review." Unbelievable! Enter Kelley (you'd think these companies would know better) who spoke to 2 different Supervisors about the situation, each of whom provided her with different (yet both still INCORRECT) stories about the nature of the member's rights. After spending one hour and 10 minutes on the phone Kelley was finally transferred to an "Operations Manager" who was truly horrified at what occurred. She immediately initiated an expedited IRO request and 7 days later our client was approved! When the dust cleared Kelley and the Operations Manager had a conversation and she again apologized for all the misinformation which was conveyed and assured us that they were using this case as a "teaching example" for their customer service personnel. "You didn't think that just because we APPROVED your surgery after your appeal we're actually going to PAY for it too, did you?!?" It can be truly horrifying for the physician and facility to not get paid after successfully getting an approval. Worse still are patients like us who fear getting HUGE bills even though we thought everything was settled after "winning" a pre-surgery appeal. This can happen, usually when the maze of insurance company Departments fail to update their systems to show things were approved. We sometimes need to go back to a payer, even after a successful appeal, and re-start the battle. It can time time, patience and knowledge to successfully navigate the insurer's system to get this fixed. Fortunately every time this happens we have gotten these claim denials resolved and re-processed for payment before the providers and patients turn into angry villagers storming Frankenstein's castle to chase these Monsters for the payment they are due. So as I wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween, I offer special greetings (and a warning) to insurance company executives and their customer service representatives who seemingly delight in making patients and providers miserable. They need to stop now. A number of years ago, at the Obesity Action Coalition's first Your Weight Matters conference, my costume included a button warning those in the insurance industry who do not change their ways. . .Hopefully they listen! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! -
June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!
MrsLingo replied to gully90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Good evening sleevers, my surgery date was June 14th and I’ve lost 78lbs so far. I haven’t introduced myself to rice potatoes not bread YET. I was wearing a size 22 and today I brought a size 10. I’m super happy but frustrated that my pouch doesn’t like much. I still have a problem with salads, chicken, and salmon. I mostly eat ground turkey, beans, oatmeal, nuts, eggs, bacon and protein bars. photo on the left is my work ID that was taken last July. Photo on the right was taken two weeks ago. -
Man! I'm down only 30 lbs PO. I've been fighting the same 3 lbs up and down for 10 weeks. Probably time to call my NUT, but last time in I was doing everything "right". :/ I've added in 4 days a week of an hour of crossfit. I'm up to 900 cals, keeping carbs under 50 g and fat under 30 g, and protein over 80 g. Water is probably around 80 oz, not inc my shake.
