weight plateau and energy loss
catwoman7 replied to Rachael101's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
as long as you're sticking to your clinic's plan, it's just a stall. Most of us have our first major stall within the first 3-6 weeks after surgery - yours is a little later than that, but I'm sure that's what's going on. You'll likely hit several of these throughout your journey. It's annoying, but it's all part of weight loss (at least for many of us) when you hit these, just stay off your scale (maybe just weighing once a week) and make sure you're following your plan to a "T". They usually last about 1-3 weeks before breaking - and then you'll be on your way again. -
Hello this is my first post. I wanted to try to get a better understanding as to what is possibly going on. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on the 24th Jan of this year the first 5 weeks i lost a lot of weight fast, 20kg. Now i'm at a stand still the past 2 weeks i'm bobbing up and down 1/2 kg. i'm now down to 146 kg. I have no access to a dietitian until 16th May so i can't ask whats going on. I was at my local GP on Friday to get a blood test ordered as i have anemia on and off since surgery i felt like rubbish no energy, tired all the time and it's an effort to get out the front door. I'm suppose to be making all these fantastic changes exercising and honestly i just don't have the energy for it i do try to get out every day for a walk thats a force. I'd apprechiate any insight, thoughts or ideas all are welcome.

Ate something the day before surgery
vikki401 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG. My surgery day is tomorrow and I am suppose to be on a liquid diet. I’m studying while my toddler is here eating grapes and he fed me a few grapes and I …..like a dummie , mindlessly ate them!!!!! I wasn’t thinking. I was so into my book. I feel like I ate about 2 or 3 but I don’t even know for sure. You think my surgeon would notice ? It’s a Sunday so I can’t even call to ask . :( -
What are you eating during the pureed phase?!
FutureSylph replied to carpeediem's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hummus. I've eaten tubs of it this week, in about half a dozen varieties. I wish I could spread it on raw veggies or crackers, but just straight from a baby spoon is fine, too. -
July 2021 Surgery People!

Hi Everyone, So....it's been 7 months for us. I've lost 20 pounds. I was very depressed for a while because I wholeheartedly expected to lose more and more quickly. As long as I keep losing, it will be ok. Maybe it's good that's its been so slow. IDK So, get this, the new dr put me on Adipex. I told her that I had taken Adipex for my entire adult life (I'm 56). But she prescribed it anyway. She told me to eat every 3 to 4 hours. And she told me that I wasn't getting enough protein. I know that's true. Most days I don't even get half of what I'm supposed to have. I know this, I've had enough protein shakes and eggs to last a lifetime. Why aren't there scientists out there figuring out a way to make a protein patch or a capsule. LOL I did get some JRobb protein powder to add to soups and yogurts. I haven't tried it yet. I'm wearing clothes I haven't worn in a long time --and that's nice. I still have 16 pounds to go to reach my goal. The surgeon made it sound like I would lose all I would lose in year one. In other words, he doesn't see patients losing in year two very often. This leaves me 5 months to try to lose the 16. I'd like to know if any of you guys heard the same thing. Can I really expect NOT to lose after a year? Or possibly even gain back? On an unrelated note -- I've been reading about alcohol. I'm trying to cut back on that too, hoping maybe that will help with the weight loss. I've lost some hair. The new dr is super nice and she explained why we lose hair --that's why I've got to figure out a way to get the proteins in. I'm very happy for all of you who have lost really big amounts of weight. That's got to be life-changing. Congratulations. Baby sister had gastric bypass in Tijuana in October and has lost nearly 80 pounds. -
Post op constipation…
Cutenchubby replied to Zerofuckstogive70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this problem too, and it was compounded by having to have knee surgery 4 weeks after WLS so I was on opioids for pain. I got in the habit of putting Metamucil in a liter of water and drinking it every day. Helped with both the water intake and fiber intake. If I skip a day of fiber-water, I pay the price 3-4 days later but stool softeners help. I also recommend keeping suppositories on hand just in case you have an issue as this helps in the moment. I use refillable water bottles, and the fiber always goes into the same color so that I know I’m drinking the right one. -
First time with foamies/frothing
BigSue replied to shriner37's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
YMMV, of course, but I think it's pretty common to have problems with meat early on but eventually improve. I had a lot of trouble with meat for the first several months after I got to the solid food stage. Even though I was very careful to make sure it was moist (usually with some kind of sauce), eat small bites, and chew well, I would often get a feeling of a bite getting stuck on the way down, and it was very unpleasant but would usually clear up in 10-20 minutes. I'm 20 months out now, and I almost never have problems with anything I eat anymore. Every once in a great while (maybe once in 3 months), I take too big of a bite and/or don't chew well enough and get that "stuck" feeling, but I eat meat all the time without issue. I will say that I've gotten in the habit of taking small bites and chewing well, and most of the meat I eat is in a dish with sauce or a soup/stew, but I don't really have to think about it or be careful because now that's what feels normal to me. I, too, love my smoker and greatly enjoy smoked chicken, ribs, and pulled pork with sugar-free BBQ sauce! I haven't tried brisket since my surgery; I rarely eat red meat in general. -

First time with foamies/frothing
LaTiaV replied to shriner37's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I tried Ground beef on week 4 after Gastric Bypass and that is the fist time I got the foam in my mouth. It happens each time I try beef, even a little bite, both surgeon and nutritionist told me to wait until month 4 to try it again and if it still gave me discomfort wait until month 6. I have always liked beef but lucky for me I do not miss it now. Surgeon told me that when I have the foam the best is to have warm liquids and wait. -

yes, they do. A lot of people have issues with various foods the first few weeks (and sometimes the first few months) post-op. Eggs, dairy, dry meats (like a dry chicken breast) are all common culprits. For most of us, we can eventually eat all of these again. -
What are you eating during the pureed phase?!
carpeediem posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello all! I'm in the pureed phase for ten more days, and I'm curious about what everyone else is eating. I've tried the ricotta bake, and I wasn't a huge fan. I made cauliflower soup which I love but can't eat anymore this week. Ha. I've mostly just been eating yogurt, thinned-out refried beans, smoothies, and jello. I don't know if my taste buds have changed, but nothing tastes very appealing anymore. I am not eating much, but I know I'm still on track with weight loss because I'm down 16 lbs. -

Oh, that’s awesome. That you had someone close that did it. I have a friend that did it years ago and she told me that this was the best decision she ever made. I’m meeting with her sometime next week for tips and things like that. I’m so excited!! -

Yea, I was given the option for 4 weeks off, but i need to be busy or else I think I will struggle mentally so I’m going to go back after 2, unless I really feel bad then I’ll take more time. I got the binder pretty cheap on Amazon I figure that I would rather have it on hand even though I may not use it. I’m getting excited!! -

I work from home but was given clearance for three weeks off. I am going to take the full time to focus on me and establishing a good daily routine. Thanks for the reminder about the binder. My surgeon doesn't require them but I have one from a hernia surgery. I think I will get it out just in case. Sent from my Lenovo YT-X705F using BariatricPal mobile app -

Good idea about the appointments. I will schedule a hair cut soon. I’m scheduled for VSG 4/19, 2 week liquid diet prior. I purchased all my vitamins, abdominal binder, broth, jello, protein shakes, etc.. I bought silicone popsicle molds from Amazon and I plan on making my own sugar free ices. I am taking the surgery week off from work and working from home the 2nd week. -

I'm one day before you April 6 and was just given my surgery time. 3 days liquid diet for me with eight days of 1000 calories. I've ordered my vitamins. Bought broths, jello and such already. Trying to get myself mentally and physically prepared. I'm also having the gastric sleeve. I've taken my before measurements and pictures too. Also got appointments out of the way. dentist, eye exam, hair cut, etc... Yes, I am a planner. [emoji23] Sent from my Lenovo YT-X705F using BariatricPal mobile app -
I am 4 1/2 weeks out from a sleeve to RNY conversion due to hiatal hernia and GERD. During the 7 years I was sleeved I never encountered any issues of foods I couldn't eat except for carbonation. Last evening I had around 2.5 ounces of beef brisket, which is listed by my NUT as being something that is allowed at this stage of recovery. Within an hour I was feeling miserable, with fullness, high chest pain, and major discomfort. I originally just thought i ate a bite or two too much, but soon began to have my first experience with frothing (or foamies as it's called on here). It was not a pleasant experience. I am hopeful this was just because the brisket was too dry or too firm for this stage of my recovery. As a person who owns a smoker and frequently prepares BBQ brisket it would be pretty devastating if this was no longer a food I could tolerate. Does tolerance for dry or firm foods get better over time after an RNY?

I was told I was Diabetic in the June before November Surgery. I said I would hold off taking medication for it until I had blood tests 3 months after my surgery. I am no longer Diabetic. I feel so much more energised.

Symptoms of Vitamin Deficiency
summerseeker replied to SoCalEm's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Yes I have had this. I was so nauseated in the first weeks after surgery it was pointless taking extra tablets. The gummy vitamins seemed to make me more sickly and the soluble Calcium just would not go down. My dietician said ' just leave them for a while, you should have good enough stocks in your body to last you for a few weeks' I bought supermarket brand vitamins with iron [ I take 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening] and chewable Calcium and I have them after food. It is working for me. The tiredness is because you have had surgery and you need to take Nana naps if you need them. Some ladies find their emotions all over the place too, I did and I am way past menopause. Its strange what this surgery can do, I am still so glad I did it though. -

Congrats! You are very lucky to only have to do it for 2 days. My surgery is on April 4th and my liquid diet starts tomorrow March 21st. Gonna go to the store today and pick up the rest of what I’ll need so I don’t have to go shopping the whole 2 weeks. -
Post op food- Low carb wraps
cheryl o replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
when you try the wraps, pls update. I had my RNY Nov 1, 2021, and yesterday i had a wrap from subway, had it cut in 3 pieces, and all i could eat was one part, because of the pain. I also had on friday 5 pieces of chicken wings and puked it up. I hate the pain and still feel safe with liquids. Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app
