  1. Hate to say the truth, but yeah you might have some loose skin. I bear a few scars from my weight, just like I have strech marks from being pregnant. BIG DEAL. Loose skin is going to depend upon your age and condition of skin now. I have seen a couple of people on VST post pictures of what their arms looked like pre and post surgery weightloss (after loosing weight) and skin looked pretty good. Some have to get surgery if skin is overstreched. I have lost almost 75 lbs and will not need surgery and am no spring chicken. I am sure if I work out more some of the skin will look better. I notice a turkey neck when moving certain ways, but none of my "tell it like it is" girlfriends see what I see. So, don't borrow worries. Do what you can, work out those those trouble areas (youtube has great home videos too), moisturize a lot and exfoliate. My goal was not to wear a mini skirt or bikini to costco, but to be healthy and active. Good luck! No regrets.
  2. Many factors come into play here. Your age - the older you are the less elastic your skin is Your skin type - some people just have more elastic skin than others The pre and post size, before and after weight loss. Some people are just luckier and while they weigh heavily they just aren't that big, therefore the skin isn't stretched to such massive proportions. It's impossible to tell whether you will have sagging skin because of the above and other factors. But remember having saggy skin won't give you diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure or high cholesterol but being obese WILL. You can always wear compression garments with longer sleeves or pay the price and have reconstructive surgery.
  3. Thank you Michelle! That is exactly what I am thinking. Don't worry about a few titanium staples in the belly. I've had a plate and screws in my leg for years without issue. I am hoping to move this along to making it happen by fall. The doctor I have chosen requires a 3 month supervised program. My only concern (mild) is that right now my insurance company doesn't have this as an option- only bypass and band. However, it is a small company, and they said that they will take a look at the procedure and if it is the best for me, it shouldn't be a problem. Since I have been with them forever... they have paid for all of the junk associated with my weight- several knee surgeries (because I still try to do the sports I did when I was thin), gallbladder, multiple meds...

Ask yourself how bad you really want this surgery? Ask yourself why losing weight is important to you? Ask yourself if you understand the pre-op diet is for your safety. Compromising it can be dangerous. You are about to have significant internal surgery. Do I really want to jeopardize it ? Ask yourself if you are truly ready ? You've got this. Through all the candy in the trash to avoid temptation. The rest of the family will just have to understand.
  5. Anyone fron the area use Weight Lose Surgical Center for their surgery? If so what was your experience like? Thanks in advance!

    Wanting To Buy An Elliptical

The weight limit on mine is 300 pounds. I hope it will hold up!
  7. Hey Jay453! I experienced the same thing....I kept my weight off for 8 years. I went from 272 lbs and a size 22 to my lowest weight of 139 and a size 2. I maintained that for about 6 years then hit 50 years old and oh boy has it been a struggle! I was very disciplined for all of those years and then got a little lax and gained 27 lbs and 3 pants sizes. I've started working on getting back on track, made some changes and am down 13 lbs and a pant size. Have 14 more to go to be back at my 145 and size 2-4! I had to find new things that worked since things that I did pre 50 doesn't work anymore!
  8. I will probably be the minority opinion here, but I know for me I could not lose weight eating 1000 cal. I only lose if I'm somewhere between seven and 800 cal, and even at that I don't lose very much. I wonder if it would help to reduce calories and see if that helps? But you also said you work out. It's possible that your net calories may already be at 700 to 800 after you take into account what you burn. In that case ignore me :-) what do your macros for Protein fat and carbs look like?
  9. Great advise! I'm going to try that method of determining how I can try to prevent a stall in weight loss also, thanks!
  10. That seems to be happening to me too... it stinks. I was doing great for the past couple weeks, and now... i've gained a pound or two, and i can't shake them. it's frustrating, i REALLY want to get 180 by my birthday, but it doesn't look like that'll happen. gotta kick my own ass at the gym tomorrow! 4 days without workin out....

    Wonderful Onederland!

Congratulations on your remarkable achievement! (the weight loss - not the husband! LOL) Like you, I have a husband who loves and supports me no matter what! We are lucky girls! PS. He does like me more when I like myself more - so that does mean slimmer!
  12. I'm 4 1/2 months out and I'm down 70 pounds. I've noticed the past two months my weight loss seems to have slowed a bit. I think realistically, 10 pounds a month is great. I know that some people lose more but this is average for most. I'm not liking it at all either!
  13. Ready4success the difference between losing 10 lbs back when before surgery - is that those 10 lbs eventually came back with the help of the sleeve, and your hard work - weight should not be regained good luck

    Feeling Down

I have no restriction and have only had one fill. I am down 42 lbs since 7/27, but the past 2 weeks have been hard I have so much going on at once. I am hungry all the time and have not been making some of the best choices. I know it'll get better I am so scared of gaining. Any supportive kind words would be appreciated.

    You Can't Go Back

Unlike many here I hadn't planned on the sleeve but came out of surgery for a slipped band with it 9 weeks ago. I'm finally on regular food and after losing 23lbs these past 2 months I'm only 20lbs from goal. Seems in the past 2 weeks I have tried to make up for lost time with eating junk. Junk I hadn't eaten in years. I was great on soft food but now that I feel normal I have been snacking because of the unexpected deprivation I went through. I just finally dumped all the junk food in the trash after feeling like crap and gaining a half pound. I can no longer justify my eating because I didn't choose this. What I got from this is that there is a way around the sleeve but I can't waste this opportunity. Even after having the lap band and now the sleeve I still need to silence the voice in my head that keeps telling me I deserve that treat over and over again. I'm going back to structured eating. I can't trust myself yet because my brain lies but the scale and my upset stomach doesn't.
  17. I too needed it prior to getting insurance approved. I really had a tough time finding a psychologist in the area familiar with this requirement. Granted I was looking for a visit Chrsitmas week. But I had tentatively scheduled an appointment, where he said it would take about two hours. We'd talk and then he was going to put me on a computer to take two psychological tests. Yikes. He made my appointment a couple of weeks out and then in that time, I found someone who could see me sooner. I went, we spoke for about 20 minutes. He asked a lot of questions and liked that I had evidence of being committed (worked for same company 30 years, married for a gazillion years, had well adjusted kids, and had the family support) and no evidence of drug use, etc. That was about it. My insurance did pay the "office visit", however, he did have a heafty charge for the "evaluation report" sent to my surgeon. Total out of pocket was $171. I was not happy about that. Between all the co pay visits, and extra testings for clearance by my cardiologist, pulmonologist, PCP weight loss program, I'm definitely shelling out a lot of money.
  18. Discovered I'm now seriously lactose intollerant along with artificial sugar and sugar alcohol. My whole plan for weight loss is out the window. The final straw is my Dr said I should be losing more than one lb per week. Anyone have similar symptoms? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using BariatricPal mobile app

    Pregnancy And Sleeve

I am about 10 weeks post op, my doctor said I shouldn't have a problem at all. My primary reason for loosing the weight and getting healthy is so that my husband and I can have the family we've been wanting. I was told it will be a high risk pregnancy in that they will not wanting me gaining excess weight, but that it shouldn't be a problem getting pregnant and having a healthy child once I am at goal!

My hair is falling out :(

I hate to be a big poop head, but here comes my story. . . hopefully it won't be your story. . . i'm 1 year out and am still losing hair by the brushful i really hate it. . used to have really nice thick hair with a really thick braid, now my braid is thinner then my pinkie. . . i'm lucky that i don't have bald spots yet. . but you can see my scalp through my hair ontop. . .very sad. . biotin never helped for me and neither did any shampoos or oils, or increasing my protein. . sooooo i just do what is left and thank my blessings that at least i am losing weight and don't have all the other health problems that i had before. . . and that i'm able to do things that i couldn't do before and not be so darn embarrassed when i go into public or onto planes and have to ask for extensions etc. . . i guess i've traded one thing for another. . . i'm blessed though

    Not Losing much weight.

In my own experience, I have found that even eating the smallest amount of sweets/fruit/sugar will cause me to have head hunger every few hours. And that would cause just enough overeating to stall my weight loss. It took a long time to realize this. So I eat low carb foods and meat most of the time. Most anything I eat that is sweet is now made with artificial sweeteners or gets it's sweetness from fat.

    Stall

I am in the same boat was starting to feel very frustrated. But I have noticed that my clothes are fitting way differently than even last week. I have been working very hard for every pound to come off. I was stalled for about 2-3 weeks but am slowly.....very slowly starting to see a pound drop off here and there. Stick with it, things will pick up again. I went back to my diary and looked at what I weighed on my last Dr appt at one month out and what I weight now 2 months later, and even though it has been slower I still lost almost 14 pounds. But day by day I would have never thought it was going to add up to 14 pounds!! If you would have asked I would have told you that I only lost about 8 pounds total, so it is still a mental thing for me, I nee to not let the scale rule me. The first month or so I was losing about a half a pound a day which was incredible to me. So all in all don't worry our bodies are still adjusting. It seemed as soon as I took up running things started to slow down for me, but I can truly see the difference in my body if not my weight on the scale. I love the post from addicted to the scale what an eye opener!!!!, that really helped me this past month. Hang in there everybody, if you are doing everything like the Dr ordered I am certain our bodies will eventually catch up. as long as we keep posting losses every thing is good!!

My hair is falling out :(

I am having the same problem as you thinoneday. Only my hair has been falling out since I got my lap band 4 years ago. I have tried everything too. Biotin, expensive shampoos and rinses, protein. My hair is so thin on top that you can see my shiny scalp. Also, there is no bald people in my family, so its not hereditary. But, I am so happy to be losing weight finally, I will put up with the almost bald spot. I feel blessed too.
  24. I am 6 weeks post op, have lost about 22 lbs and have stopped. I am not 100% with the program, but added exercise this week and eating so much less than I was. I don't understand why I have stopped losing weight. I cannot eat a lot so I get hungry every few hours. I am not supposed to graze but get intensely hungry throughout the day. I am very depressed about this, I put myself through this emotionally and physically grueling procedure and I am besides myself. I eat a lot of protein but do eat sweets a little bit, but not enough to stop weight loss?? I do not drink the required 6-8 glasses a day. I really need help. I was not crazy about the nutritionist I saw for pre op work, and do not know who else to speak to, if that is recommended.i don't know how many calories I eat a day and can't find the right food journal. Thank you for your help in advance!!
  25. You are absolutely right- you do not have restriction. If you did, you never would have been able to eat that much food. However, I think your choices were right on. Lots of people on this forum say they didn't loose weight until they got restriction. Just tell your doctor how it's going. He should do a fill for sure. If not, find a new doctor!
