Need snack/meal ideas for work at 2-6 weeks post op
BigViffer replied to theatrejo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lauraellen80's post is excellent. Buy the tupperware cups and don't purchase individual foods. More preservatives are in those for some reason. In my case, I packed cottage cheese, applesauce and greek yogurt. Better develop a taste for greek yogurt, it's a lot higher in Protein than American so you don't have to eat as much. Don't worry, it will be funky at first but you will acclimate to it soon enough. I buy the Faget plain yogurt in the big tub and add Torani sugar free flavoring or PB2 Protein powder to suit my tastes. Applesauce is not high in protein, but it is in Fiber and you are going to want that. Dried apricots, prunes and figs can be put into a blender with your protein powders for a well rounded food/drink combo. Those individual tuna bags are awesome, but try to avoid the canned chicken and tuna salad. They are too high in fat. Also, get a good shaker cup. Damn things cost $15 sometimes, but you will have it by your side at all times and you don't want one that leaks after being washed a couple times. Don't ask me how I know. Crystal Light Water enhancers are a lifesaver for me. The water at my office tastes like pool water to me, so that helps mask it. Hope this helps! -
I work 7a-7p now as a travel nurse. But I've worked 7p-7a before also. I would wake up at 5pm and get ready and head to work by 5:30....drink a protein shake on the way. I like premier protein, it has 30grams and comes in handy pre made boxes. I then eat about every 3 hours. A Greek yogurt, cheese stick, protein shake. I drink a protein shake on my way home from work. It ends up being around 500-600 calories. Then sleep. But I'm one of those weird people who has no hunger ever. I keep a water bottle wherever I'm chatting and can get two-three down in a shift. I'll drink another before I fall asleep once I get home. Hope this helps

Sleeve limitations
Inner Surfer Girl replied to liatleder's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am three months out so this is what I have observed so far. The challenge with the sleeve is 180 degrees from my pre-sleeve dieting life. Now, rather than being hungry all the time while trying to avoid eating too much and craving unhealthy foods, I am not hungry very often but have to make sure I am eating and drinking frequently. Unhealthy food is not appealing to me at all. Now, when I eat delicious food, I am able to enjoy it and be satisfied with a very small amount. An example: I LOVE Greek/Mediterranean food but do not have a good restaurant near me. On the way home from my three-month surgeon's office, I stopped at a Greek restaurant. I got a lunch special (without rice or pita), and added extra meat. I ate a small amount and was satisfied for lunch. I brought the rest home and had some for dinner last night and lunch today and still have enough for one more meal. I am also just as satisfied with a meal of cottage cheese or yogurt. A turkey burger patty with green Beans is a feast. My nephews chocolate birthday cake was not remotely appealing. It's hard to describe, but it is a very different experience. -
When will I feel better:(
bewell replied to jadama22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have a fever and pain you might want to call your Doc. I know I had many hard days where I had no energy at all and soft foods made me nauseous. Tuna and mashed potatoes weren't on my list for months. I did blended Soups for weeks. Maybe you need to stay with the softer foods. Blended soups, Cream of wheat or yogurt, I was way behind most for starting puree and solid foods. You might be too. Keep the liquids going. I got dehydrated and ended up in the ER which isn't a big deal. They just gave me IV fluids and I perked right up. It takes a while to feel good again. I called my Doc all the time. Mostly got the nurse but they were great at answering my calls and calming me down. Be gentle with yourself. -
Weightloss has stopped at 8 wks post op
maggie409 replied to diamondtammi's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Do you measure? If the scale isn't moving, seeing the inches drop helps as encouragement. Also for me, I have noticed if I focus on my protein I do better. The more protein I get from real food, the better I lose. I have baked dark chicken meat that I keep and snack on it in between waters or have a Greek yogurt. Everyone is different so just play with it and see what works for you. Good luck and you will do great! -
I'm on mushy still, adding a few soft meals. I eat yogurt, cottage cheese, egg salad, tuna w/mayo, I also eat tilapia fish, and had shrimp. I have fruit too. Blue berries and black berries. One other thing I've tried is spicy bean burger. Awesome. I needed to add some things that were hot to feel normal. The only thing that's not agreeing well with me are the protein drinks. Too sweet, not going down. And once I do get it down, I'm immediately running to the bathroom. Ive cut that down to 1 a day.

July Sleevers! Let's chat!
beuTwithin replied to beuTwithin's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hello all a quick update. I was sleeved on Jul 9th. I feel amazing no pain gas gone and dropping weight. My HW 343 SW 333 CW 323 that's a 10 pond lost in 5 days not the best but definitely progress. My struggle is definitely getting the required amount of liquids. Once I do 4 ounces of Protein shake that's sweet I try to sip Water but then I have that nasty taste so I try crystal light can't get much of that in because it's sweet. I can't stomach plain Greek yogurt so I tried Greek 100 flavor yogurt I can get about 1/3 of that down before either I just don't want it no more or I start burping crazy (a sign of being full I guess) then by the time I wait to drink I'm really not thirsty or my sleeve that I call Minnie starts to cramp so I don't want to drink either. But overall I feel amazing. Let me know how yall ate doing post op. Tiff -
Be strong you can get through it. I had my surgery on June 29. Although I have been able to tolerate foods. My emotions have been all over the place as well. I had regrets, but I also had to pray and realize that this was the best decision for my life. You can do it. Where are you located? Hello hun I'm from PA. I do believe that in the long run this is the best. What types of things are you eating. And how much. I can not tolerate chicken... Tuna is OK. And egg whites r OK. Cream of wheat is OK too. But we shouldn't have that. I have eaten mash potatoes, baked Beans, livermush, thin grits, and eggs, I have eaten tuna, and tonight o had chicken salad. I have also had yogurt, cheese, and a piece of turkey meat, apple sauce. I don't have much when I eat because I don't want to waste food. Just a little bit to see if I can handle it. My doctor had me on a liquid diet for a week, then puréed for a week, then soft food for two week, and then a normal diet. Right now I'm on the soft diet.

Is not wanting to eat at all normal
scarletwitch19 replied to Phosphate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Feel the same way. I'm on week 6, and never want to eat. Even since I can eat soft foods, nothing is appetizing. I know some of that is probably me having a bad attitude, but I just have no desire. I always have my 2 shakes, yogurt, lunch and dinner every day, but it can really feel like a chore at times -
Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
HousecallsNP replied to Need-a-Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stacy1204, I am a NP house calls provider and I know your pain. I see at least 6 patients a day myself. I am in the process of my 3 month supervised weight loss period now. I pack a cooler from Thirty One. It keep cool my protein shakes from Adkins as well as cheese sticks, V8 juice (6 oz cans), yogurt etc. I put a refreezable pack in with them and keep it zipped up unless I'm getting something out. I also freeze a water bottle that half full and finishing filling with water in the am for the day. It lasts practically all day. I hope to be sleeved but not sure if my insurance will pay for that procedure...may be having RNY....or lapband is my last choice d/t my bmi. Hoping all goes well in September. I know you will do great!!! Rhonda -
So I'm two weeks out... I was 290 before surgery!!! I'm currently 268 so I'm down 22 lbs in 2 weeks. I'm starting soft foods and kinda lost of what to have... I don't eat fish or seafood of any kind including tuna, hate cottage cheese. Been having eggs, lunch meat. Was told I can have steamed boiled vegetables... I so want some cooked broccoli and cheese!!! Also I hate yogurt... tried finding sugar free custard at walmart last night but didn't have any.

Worried I don't/Won't have restiction
Bndtoslv posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a revision patient. I was sleeved 2 weeks ago. I don't feel hungry, have been measuring my food and have lost a lot in the past 2 weeks. Maybe 16lbs? Anyway I am so worried because I hear of people only being able to get down 1-2 ozs at this point. I can eat 3-4 oz of purees no problem. I haven't felt pain or anything with eating - only a once or twice a twinge or something. Once or twice a bit of nausea from eating. I am on purees and I have eaten baked ricotta, yogurt, egg salad, refried Beans and even soft mashed fish. Is it because I am on purees that I don't feel much more than a lack of desire to eat? -
I have tried a few different individual packets of whey Protein with greek yogurt, milk, muscle milk and Water and every time - and every single time i have one - two sips my stomach is KILLING me. It's not a full feeling, it's pain and discomfort. Has anyone else had this reaction? I was trying to save some money/calories by going to powder instead of continuing with pre-made shakes like muscle milk but it's seriously painful, to the point where I want to leave work and go to bed. I'm not trying to punish myself by continuing to try it - I just want to find a way to make it work. but maybe I'm just intolerant for some reason. Thoughts?

Mayo in your tuna salad or egg salad?
Julie norton replied to Karlnjax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes tastes change in the long haul. I used to like mayo, but now it does not like me much. Really unclear why, but with every year post op, things change some? Avocado agrees with me, so that can be a substitute for some. Others mention cottage cheese or yogurt for alternatives. We all keep adapting... If we didn't, we would not be successful IMHO -
Ranch dressing...never again!
BigViffer replied to lucky1gg33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't have to go plain. I am one of those people must have a sauce or dip for just about everything. I know it stems from my childhood. Mom made pork and chicken dry on purpose. Fear of trichinosis back then meant everyone overcooked their poultry and pork. But I digress; I don't want the empty calories of condiments now. You can get the common hummus flavors that works well for veggies, but I have found some stores that have more options in their hummus. Spinach & Artichoke, White Bean & Basil, Curry, Sun Dried Tomato, Cilantro & Jalepeno... some really awesome stuff! But I have to say my favorite combo is the one I found first. Deli roast beef, swiss cheese, and horseradish hummus. The meat, cheese, and bean combo makes it Protein packed. I don't bother with bread or tortilla's or anything like that. Roll the meat up in the cheese so that your fingers stay clean and dip it into the hummus. Hummus has been a life saver for me. Prior to surgery, it was just hummus and pitas. I recently started buying plain Faget yogurt. I tried it right after surgery but my taste buds were not ready for it. Now it reminds me of a super soft cream cheese. I can mix sugar free coffee flavorings to make a desert yogurt. I can add spices or herbs to make a dip. Don't be afraid to try new things! -
Two Weeks Post GB. Doing TOO Well. Nothing Seems To Make Me Sick.
gbveteran4d posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I'm 15 days from my surgery. I haven't lost any weight in the last week. And nothing seems to bother me. I'm eating soft foods, but have also had little bits of regular food here and there with no issue. I guess I expected it to be a more drastic change. Here's what I can eat now: Jello, two eggs mashed up into egg salad, mashed potatoes, hummus, yogurt, pudding, Soup (including egg drop soup), cottage cheese. The only thing I threw up was a piece of meat that I didn't realize was mixed into an egg omelet. But otherwise I feel like I'm still consuming a lot early on, and not really losing weight. It's really early to "plateau," but I'll continue to monitor any changes in weight. I may end up becoming the first bypass patient to gain wait before hitting the one month mark. -
No appetite 3 weeks post sleeve
rnsamantha replied to lisemaria's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery June 25 and am in the same boat. Getting 70 g of protein a day by drinking 2 protein shakes (60g) right there. The protein shakes go down easy, but food is another thing altogether. I can eat about two oz of cottage cheese/yogurt/lentils etc. and typically need to walk after I eat to help it settle because I get nauseated. If I eat too fast of more solid foods (ie egg, fish) I vomit. I'm getting just over 500 calories per day, and just managing to get 60 oz of water in total. Glad to know I'm not the only one having issues! -
I'm on solids and not quite tolerating the food all that well either. I feel sick and just want to vomit. My cousin joked around and called me bulimic but it kind of struck me that what if that is the road I'm going down? Hopefully not. I think I should go back to yogurt / Jello as well, but my surgeon said he wants me to eat "regular" foods now. I hope you heal quickly <3
-
I've wondered the same thing. I'm still struggling to eat slow and I'm not tolerating soft foods as well as I thought. I'm going back to my cottage cheese and yogurt tomorrow.

I went back to an active, physical job 7 days postop. I work 10 hour days. On my feet all day, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling. I was on liquids for 18 days postop, then pureed then soft foods until 6 weeks postop. I also don't take a lunch break, so I just made sure I had plenty of Protein smoothies, string cheese, Quest bars, Greek yogurt, etc. to snack on in between appointments. Adding fruit to my protein smoothies helped with my energy level. I was definitely wiped when I'd get home, but had no problems working my regular shifts. I did have a 20 pound lifting restriction for 3 weeks that I had to work around, but then was back to lifting the normal 40-60 pounds. In fact, my work partner had a hysterectomy a month after my VSG and she had an 8 pound lifting restriction so I was pulling double duty for all the heavy physical stuff starting 4 weeks postop. And besides work, I was able to feed and care for 4 dogs, 3 cats and 2 horses without any help.

Food Serving Size
Mobeans63 replied to nuzzlebear40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just 1 week out and could add yogurt, applesauce and digit mashed potatoes thus week. I have absolutely no trouble eating 1/2 cup of anything mushy. Is that bad? -
Today was a total food fail! I'm almost 5 weeks post rny and graduated to soft foods last Friday. It's been going good with no problems until today. I went shopping with a friend about 2 hours from home. I tried an omelet for Breakfast at a cafe. After about 3 bites of egg with cheese, spinach, and tomato and toast with Peanut Butter it all came back up. Then for supper we went to Olive Garden. I had grilled salmon and garlic mashed potatoes. Again after a few bites it all came back up. I did have applesauce in between with no problem and yogurt on the way home. First time anything has made me sick. I've had eggs and mashed potatoes without problems so not really sure what caused it unless it was how it was cooked. Not a very good day.

Newbie looking for Oct sleevers!
Kathy812 replied to Marielbx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@lauriedunn1, I usually have a quest protein bar a day (21g) and delish! I also have 80 cal lite n fit Dannon Greek yogurt (12g) protein, a babybel cheese snack & turkey jerky (16g) and lunch is usually chicken, turkey or steak which meats can be high in protein. Talapia is very high in protein. Etc. I usually have no problems getting in 80-100grams a day and my calories are about 1200 a day. I didn't mind the vanilla protein shakes from premier but I didn't love them either. I much prefer to eat my calories then drink it. But in your case, since it sounds like it would be hard to eat them, get the protein how you can. That's the most important thing.
