To weigh or not to weigh....that is the question!
pnw218 replied to SarahD.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Addicted here! : ) I weigh every morning but not again the rest of the day. Seems most people go up alittle as the day goes on. Some days it is down a little in the morning, then it might pop back up for a day or two, then down again. So long as it stays 2 steps forward and 1 step back, I am fine with it. Weighing once a week or even longer might be better, but I would be pretty bummed if the one day I weighed was one of those up days instead of a down day! LOL My scale has hardly moved recently but I bought a smaller size of jeans today. If you haven't taken your measurements, I would suggest doing that. I was shocked to find out that I had lost 40 inches the last time I checked! Keep a list of NSV (non scale victories). Those will keep up your spirits when the scale disappoints! Good luck! -
Horror upon horrors I had to video-conference today for a new job. Eeek! Not only do I have telephone anxiety (conference calls were a major food trigger for me prior to my band) but being seen on camera? Oh. My. God. There are hardly any photographs of me in our family albums and certainly no video. I've always been too ashamed of my weight and how I looked. So today, ta-da! I was fine. Not that I wasn't a nervous wreck -- I still felt anxious but I didn't need food to tamp down the feelings (thank you, Band, for the dimmed appetite). I set the equipment up ahead of time and chose my outfit carefully, positioned the camera just right with all my notes just above and behind. When the conference got going I couldn't believe how good I looked. I am not only acceptable, I'm more than that. I look like some one I'd really like -- and that makes me laugh because now I really do like myself and I like how I look. I've still got some weight to lose but you know what, I don't have to hide anymore. It's okay for me to be out in the world. Yippee!

thank you all for your great suggestions! it's all pretty much what i already knew, but it helped me realize that there isn't some magic suggestion out there... it basically boils down to plain old fashioned hard work! and so i have pushed my butt into gear and this past week, i lost 3.8lbs! *wiggles* i'm still not thrilled with the way things are going, but i'm seeing improvement in the way i look and feel... and for a totally female nsv, today i put on my cute black top and noticed that for the first time in a loooong time my boobs stuck out way over my belly! my belly used to be equal or even more so out there. THAT FEELS GREAT! i feel very womanly.

What You Wish You Had Known About The Sleeve
Pookeyism replied to ChaChaBurch's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Specifically about the sleeve, nothing I can think of. I wish I could have been more aware I would not have any major complications during surgery, lol. I do not think I sounded very confident to my Hubby sometimes. Actually, I think I would have liked to have been more realistic and reminded myself that knowledge is sometimes thwarted by experience. I knew so much, read so much, but it all FELT different, and actually dealing with it is more thorough, more time consuming, more of a complete change than I expacted - even though I knew what to expect. Oh yes!!!! The NSV's - I did not anticipate how important it was to have and acknowledge the NSV's. These small and not so small things are so very important. VST - I did not anticipate just how important daily interaction could be for me. Without VST this would be a very different, lonely experience. Hope that helps. -
I haven't been able to buy clothes at Costco for years, and I just hated it. Today, I found a white summer skirt that fits just right - maybe even a little loose, but summer's nearly over! And I got a velour top and pants for this fall. I could try the top on in the store and it just fit, but the pants are too big. I'm going to have to return them for a smaller size! NSV rules!

so ladies i took a shower today. when i got out of the shower i grabbed one of the towels off the rack....put it on around my body. i did one of those tuck in jobs at the top to close. i was standing there talking to my husband. i didnt even notice. he looked at me and said, "wow baby, look at you! you look so sexy rapped in that towel." i was like yeah sure, but looked in the mirror and realized that for the first time in 17 years the small towel rapped all the way around me! haha i cant freaking believe it!!! before my sleeve i had to have a beach towel in order to wrap around my body. thank you sleeve!!!!

Xpost: (Long) 13 Months And Flying High
Terry H. posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
As of yesterday I lost 210 lbs... half my body weight. People are starting to ask me if I'm at goal. I'm wearing clothing that can best be described as average sized. Nothing bigger than a large and mostly medium with size 36 or 38 pants. I'm now just 9 lbs from my first major goal, 10 pounds from onderland, and 29 lbs from my stretch goal of 180. I'm really charged up about the prospects for the new year. Oh what a wonderful feeling to have the seat belt fit on an airplane. One of the best NSVs yet. Every day is better and this life change is my best Christmas present, thanksgiving wish, and birthday gift combined. -
Do you notice how much others eat?
Elode replied to *Lexie*'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I only notice in my house because There are a lot of leftovers left that my husband has been working on now that I don't eat much...it's really shows me just how much I was actually eating in the house. To have sweets sitting around and throwing out half a peach pie that didn't get eaten Is just astonishing because that NEVER would have happened had I not had this surgery....I defiantly would have had them ate!! Thank Jesus I'm not that way anymore....maybe that's my first NSV?!!! -
I went to my absolute fave place to eat, Panera Bread, and I passed all the delish breads and pastries without even considering getting something. I ordered the chicken noodle and only drank the broth (I'm on my pre-op liquid diet) and got water instead of my signature iced green tea. This is a huge accomplishment for me, because I used to have a toasted cinnamon crunch bagel every morning after work with an iced green tea, of course. While I haven't been perfect on the pre-op diet, I did start back at the gym after 3 years of not doing a single thing. I lost 11 pounds the first week. Surgery on Tuesday!!!!'

lol I am so glad to know I am not alone!! acapella (spelling??) burping.... now there is a thought! lol I decided to ponder this thing we do called burping... I thought back to the days of feeding my babies and I remembered a bottle which is I believe still popular, the platex nurser... well in their advertisement they say that babies get less air and so do not suffer with gas and the pain it can bring.... well I thought to myself how can I get less air if I am drinking (which is all I am doing at this point).... here is what I came up with I tried to really concentrate as I drank and I realized that I was breathing all wrong which each swallow...so I tried to make sure that just before I did swallow I exhaled and did not inhale until after I was done.... TA DA!!! It worked!! I have had very little burping today and I am hoping that maybe I have really stumbled on an answer for this. Now I need others to research my theory!! lol breath out swallow breath in lol an easy little exercise and if it works it is another victory NSV. as an added bonus it helps to slow down the drinking/eating
