First Check Up Since Surgery In A Couple Hours...
Shilo30 replied to trojanchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I look at myself in the mirror I don't see it either.... But the scale shows it and I have been able to purchase dresses that are 2 sizes smaller. I was convinced before my post op visit that the scale would show the same number as morning of surgery...... It didn't! I was down 17 lbs at my 1 week visit. :-) try not to stress, it will be ok!! -
OMG it's sooooo funny you say that. i thought i was the only one who did this. i start my liquid diet on may 9th, surgery is may 20th, so i plan on the week before the liquid diet practicing chewing. that sounds so crazy, but i am deathly afraid of getting stuck or PB'ing, so if i can prevent it, well then i'm going to. LOL Jennifer

I agree with the chewing more. I'm also a month out, my plan allows veggies at this point. I do well with them but they have to be diced pretty small then I have to chew really well so I don't get bubbles or pain. Try that if it doesn't work it may just be the broccoli. I had a friend who had the sleeve she said broccoli was the only veggie that didn't sit well for her until like now and she's about 3 years post op Also, maybe the chicken wasn't moist enough. Any meat I eat at this point that doesn't have some type of sauce or something is too heavy and doesn't go down well for me.

Has anybody else had any issues with their port getting disturbed when you bend over? I am only 2 weeks post op, so this might be a recovery issue. I have a heck of a time when I need to bend down to pick up my toddler or something off the floor. My port is in my upper abdomen. It is at just the right position that it get pushed up by my jean's waistband when I bend. Ouch! It hurts. The pain is less than it was a few days ago. Also, I am learning new ways to bend off to the left so I don't disturb my port on the right. I wonder if this "port catch" pain will go away as I heal? As my stomach gets flat? Ever?

My doctor allows his patients every week till they feel green but I don't go every week

I am 5 weeks post op and have not had any port pain since about week 2. Now I am feeling periodic pinching type pain when sitting or getting up. I thought it was from my jeans rubbing but it has not gone away. It is more uncomfortable then hurting. Is this normal? I don't recall doing anything that would have caused the pain. Has anyone else experienced this?

A fantastic experience with Dr Illan
Tiff replied to leslie1958's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thanks for sharing Leslie! I am scheduled with Dr. Illan for 3/24- exactly two weeks away! So excited. I have already seen how great the team is, as I was able to skype with Omar and Dr. Illan. I can't wait to be back on here sharing my weight loss success! -
I finally have the green light to eat pureed and soft foods but I'm really struggling. Anything I eat - outside of Protein Drinks - I throw up. I thought maybe I was eating too much or maybe too fast so I weighted out 2 oz of rotisserie chicken and pulsed it in my Ninja. I took 10 minutes to eat it. Still no go. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions on things to try? Is this normal?

I started this process on May 4, and I had my surgery on September 12. In between, I lost 56 pounds. Since the surgery, I'm down another 39. I went from 5'5" and 285 to 5'5" and 190. I've lost 10 inches off my waist and went from a XXXL to a large. I stepped back through my old wardrobe so quickly that things I thought would fit for a while no longer fit at all, and I have to start from scratch on my wardrobe. My glucose is 92, I'm off the CPAP, I'm off the cholesterol drug on a trial basis. I look better than I have since high school. I go hiking multiple times a week, I swim multiple times a week, I just bought a kayak. And I'm still losing weight. The 100-pounds-lost mark is right around the corner. This is successful, but not success. Success is many years away, when I'm on my deathbed having never become obese again. And I expect that to be many, many times more difficult than the last few months have been.

I had my surgery 2/26 and was 305 I had lost 38 pounds on my Pre op diet and as of today I am 252. I have gone from 26/28 to size 18 and they are getting loose. I am eating 600-700 calories a day, getting 70-80 gr protein and about 64 oz fluids. I need to exercise more.. But my hubby and I have started a long walk every evening. My concern is that every time I meet with the surgeon he seems disappointed, he says I am ok but I just feel like I am not doing as well as I should be. I have to meet with the NUT and physical therapy again next week. I am really nervous about it as it gets closer, I have never had a good feeling with the NUT but going to her is a requirement of my program. I am striving to reach my goal of 180 I know I still have a long way to go. Does it sound like I am on track? Looking for feedback so I can mentally prepare for next weeks appt. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for the reply. That sounds like a plan. Maybe for 1 week I'll do a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch and have a healthy dinner. I feel like I'm a nutrisystem add when I say that lol Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App -
Kathy's first goal reached: Low 200s (184 pounds lost in 23 months)
SkinnyKathy replied to SkinnyKathy's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You've only had two fills ever? It took me 3 or 4 fills before I got to the "sweet spot" for the first time. Then for a while I needed fills every month or so to stay at the sweet spot. I once went 6 months between fills but that was the longest. The trickiest thing is getting to and staying at that sweet spot. It sounds from your description that you have never gotten to your sweet spot. Keep at it! The band only works for you if you work to manage it. But since you had the band put in you should follow-through with the rest of your investment and get the fills you need to get to the sweet spot. The feeling of something stuck in the throat can happen at various times but for me at least, it is always associated with eating too fast. Slow down, take small bites, chew well, and check in with your body frequently as you eat. The real signal you are looking for is a feeling of fullness and the cessation of hunger. I won't say I NEVER drink when I'm eating, but really I can't take more than a single sip of liquids when I'm eating or there just isn't any room for food. If you're not feeling that way, if you're able to eat and drink at the same time, is another strong indication that you haven't even reached the sweet spot yet. It also sounds like you are struggling with head hunger quite a lot. That's the other thing I love about the band, when it's adjusted right, head hunger gets cut way back. The band pinches the vegas (sp?) nerve, which sends hunger signals to your brain. That's one way I can tell that it's time for another fill - when my head hunger starts to resume. (Slowed weight loss would be another sure-fire indicator.) Please do get another fill and let me know how it goes! Yes, fills can get pricey but if you don't get fills then you are not getting the value out of the band, the investment you have made in the surgery and recover time to actually lose the weight you set out to lose. Good luck! Kathy -
I am for sure slowing down when I eat; It also takes me 10 or so minutes after I eat to feel full. I did not think I would still be so restricted after just getting the band and no fill. I can eat the hamburger patty off of a burger and I am satisfied. I have ate the bottom piece of the bun before; but that causes the ear pain; won't do that anymore. Another thing; I thought you were not supposed to be able to eat bread with the band; and I have read where people eat toast or a bagel...I can eat the bread but I think eventually it swells causing the ear pain; I did go to the Chiropractor and to get "adjusted" and my back feels alot better. Wednesday will be my 4 week anniv and I go to the Dr on Thursday for a weigh in; I have stayed away from the scale lately. Is a hamburger patty alot to eat for someone 4 weeks post op? Thanks everyone!

I am eating anything I want now. I am supposed to be getting a fill this week; but I have postponed it due to our vacation at the end of this month. Good Luck on your journey!

Hi, How is everyone today I had a great time at the Mall and didn't want to leave. I tryed on all kinds of clothes at different places. I used to hate clothes shopping because (you know why) small selections and more money. The clothes look like grandma's old things not updated or modern. Well today I did it that one size that makes a different is where I am and the mall was a hunting grounds for me today. I thought about this new thread I want before Christmas to hit 50 pounds gone so I need 3 more pounds that is what I want for Christmas. Not a boyfriend (have a husband already) or my two front teeth but 3 more pounds gone. that would make this year one of the best for me. Merry Christmas to everyone and may you have a wonderful holiday Little Shirl

Well done!! I can wait to be in "onederland" too.... Hopefully will in the next couple of weeks xxx #onedayiwillbeslim SD - October 4th 2012 -
Hi there! Thank you so much for your response. A few people advised me to try intermittent fasting, so I'm taking a stab at that while also reducing my overall caloric intake and bumping up my exercise to a few days a week and even multiple times a day. Nothing extreme, just doing a 30 min walk on my lunch break during the day and then a work out at night after work.

Weight Gain???
BeenThereWasThat replied to callieann0821's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved a week before you and I had a 3 lb weight gain at about 5 weeks post op. At first I kind of freaked out but I relalized that I really hadn't done anything wrong and that my body is just going through major changes. I have kind of come to the conclusion that as long as I am eating right and getting excercise this body will loose how it wants too. If you haven't started taking measurements I recommened doing so it is an easy way to see the physical changes that are taking place on your body even when the scale isn't moving.
