    Gaining Weight after 3.5 years

most of us gain 10-20 lbs from our lowest weight sometime during year 3. I sometimes attend Unjury's virtual support groups, and they had a really interesting dietitian on a couple of weeks ago. She said almost everyone gains at least 5% of their lowest weight, and her clinic doesn't even consider it regain unless the person gains more than 15% of their lowest weight. Anything less than that (i.e., less than a 15% gain) is just normal settling....so that's more or less equivalent to the 10-20 lbs that I mentioned. so, in other words, your "regain" is normal - just the normal rebound that the vast majority of us experience after hitting bottom. Of course, you can always lose weight again by cutting calories - but if your body is now at it's "setpoint", then it'll be a struggle to take it off and keep it off - BUT...it can be done if you're willing to put in the work.
  2. Hi, all: I started out on the April surgery buddies board. However, my Results visit with my surgeon is Monday, May 16, and I am looking for a surgery date of 6/13. School will be out, and I won't have to stress about recovering. I'm particularly interested in reading surgery and recovery experiences. I've amassed a large amount of useful information in the short amount of time I have been here. My surgeon's admin told me yesterday that many of his patients choose to start the liver shrinking diet 2 weeks prior to their Results visit which is about a week away. That would put me on liver shrinking eating plan for about 6 weeks which doesn't really interest me, and my nutritionist said that might be difficult to sustain. I agree. I may try something rather modified until the 5/16 visit, and follow my doctor's instructions regarding a liquid diet and a time frame for that. Good luck to everyone here. PS: FTR, my protein shake of choice is FairLife chocolate, and I do like the Gatorade Zero Protein Drinks.

    Leg soreness?

You might want to check in with your doctor to be sure, but I had a lot of random pain in the first few weeks/months after surgery. I was told that this is normal as your weight "shifts" and you carry yourself differently. It could be that, but again, not a bad idea to check in with your surgery center.
  5. Four oz of something like meat is a lot. I can only eat about 3 oz of something like deli meat or chicken breast and I'm 7.5 months out. When I had just had surgery I could only eat a few mouthfulls of food. For me, I get hiccups if I'm getting full. You can always eat more slowly, take a few minutes between each bite. I have to work more at that because I end up in pain sometimes too. It definitely takes a long time to learn how to not be in pain. Hang in there!

My doctor will give 4 weeks off of work, but I'll have surgery on 6/22 and return to work on 6/27. I am primarily at my desk though. I just don't know how my 3 year old is going to handle not being picked up all the time. She's under my physician's guide of "no more than 30lbs in the first 30 days", but I'm not sure I'll feel up to carrying her up a flight of stairs at daycare.

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

Man, I remember my 2 weeks pre-op liquid diet. It was ROUGH. My program had me on 5 shakes a day and I could supplement with 1 single serving of sugar free jello and broth. I would hold onto the broth for dinner so it would feel more comforting and give me something to look forward to after drinking all the shakes. By the time I got to my second week I started blending my shakes with some ice and eat it with a spoon. I kept a countdown on post its and tried to stay really busy. I also tried really hard to focus on the ultimate goal of surgery, which, helped a lot. Life will be different after surgery and some things will be easier, but, others harder. As much as it is a physical journey it is a mental journey even more. Keep plugging away! Every day is one day closer!
  8. I've had pretty much the opposite experience when it comes to keeping things down, but in terms of the other issue, I dealt with it for about half a week until it stopped.

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

My surgeon only had me on 3 days. Started on a Friday for Monday surgery. Most of my calories just came from Sprite and Jello. You don't have to do diet everything.

Hi! Just checking in... have you lost any more weight since this vicious stall hit you?

    Kept it Quiet?

I decided to talk with my husband and children about it, my mother and my brother. Some online friends I have met through my business . I lost 30 in the first 2 months of my 6 month program. My mom, brother and husband are on board, but all asked me to reconsider and loose it naturally. I was a skinny person with crazy high metabolism until 30, received medical attention for anxiety and severe depression and poof, weight gain constantly since. I am 41 now. Always was active and was labeled medically induced morbidly obese. I have been to ‘diet doctors’ nutritionists, doctors, tried getting off the medication and gain plus all the time. I was literally doing one meal at dinner and ‘testing’ shakes and purée phase foods for the other meals. Because honestly I am terribly anxious for the liquid diet. Which I happened to start yesterday. I in total lost 50, but gained back 5-10 in a nervous dip and adding back to 3 meals. Trying the yogurt recipes (I gain with yogurt 😢) My doctors still want me to stick with the yogurt. I do know that carbs are my gains. I have my RNY scheduled May 10 and can’t wait. It’s not a secret, but I am not trying to tell anyone because it’s my body and my decision. Judgements are always made and sometimes (always) my family (aunts uncles cousins) can be completely rude. All in all, I am doing this for myself and my children, I want to live and annoy them for a long time and love the families they ave. So don’t worry about anyone else. Immediate support group small~ All I need 🥰

    Swimming post op

I think it was around 3 weeks for me... I had that clear gel over my incisions, so I was waterproof! At least that's what the doctor used to tell me. 🙂 My surgery was in mid-August, and I know I got in the pool one more time before it closed down for the season, which would have been around Labor day or the week after.

    Leg soreness?

I noticed right after surgery that my legs were super sore on even on short walks. Now, I wasn't exactly a marathon runner before surgery, but I also wasn't completely sedentary so it was really strange! It stopped after a few weeks. Not sure if that helps, but I wouldn't worry much since it is also achy soreness. I think surgery just takes a lot out of your body in ways you don't expect.

    Leg soreness?

Hey, y’all! I’d been walking (more or less) 5 minutes every hour since surgery on 4/20. Yesterday I was busy with work, so I didn’t quite make it hourly. However, I did increase my time in the walks that I did take; 10 minutes up the ramp of my parking garage to the top floor (one floor up.) So today my legs feel really sore and tired. No fever, no hot spots, just aches. Taking my daily blood thinner shots on top of the movement. Should I be worried?! Would anyone recommend compression socks? Other relief? I made the stupid decision to rewatch Dr. Death this week, so now I’m super paranoid about clots and pulmonary embolisms lol

    Thinking of backing out

My anxiety and depression are actually better post WLS (sleeve) 3 years ago. I've never heard of them worsening due to WLS. I take two daily medications for depression and anxiety (as I did before WLS) and it's all good.

    February 2022 Surgery Buddies

Thank god someone finally said this!! I can eat about 3 oz of chicken and 1 c of salad in one meal with no problems or feeling of fullness. And the hunger pangs! Omg they’re awful!! I’ve been in a stall since beginning of April. Finally lost 2 lbs this week.
  17. I'm reading that some people can only eat 3-4 bites! Thats wonderful. Sometimes I wonder, is this working for me, I can eat more than that. I'm trying to reassess and slow it down more and get in touch with my full factor. I can drink a full 8 oz of water without any problem. I still deal with hunger pains, but they are better than normal, some days I'm only eating 800 calories a day, I've noticed if I don't feel hunger pains at least a little, I'm not losing.

    Pre-op

Same with mine. We knew up front that there was a liquid diet requirement. The closer it got we had to see the dietician and we received what those requirements for the liquid diet were. I think mine was discussed 3 times as well

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

made protein pudding and having a bit with my soup as if it’s a meal for dinner… Red pepper tomato soup and chocolate/vanilla protein pudding tonight. I was told to try 3 days at a time then switch combinations. Thankfully I found this. Y’all are so positive and uplifting

    how long before a #2

It took me a week and I'm almost 3 months out and still have issues with it. The more water the better. Walking is really important too to get things moving. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  21. Hi there totally new here and just looking for peoples experience, I am post op 10 days post gastric bypass, just wondering if I am eating too much or too little, just scared I am messing thing up ; so currently I am eating around 4- 5 yoghurts a day and around 2-3 cups of coffee with almond milk and 2 soups a day. All the yogurts are low sugar and low fat ie when I look at the calories for everything except my soups I get around 600-700 calories a day this is without counting the soups as they are home made with carrots, chicken etc. Pre surgery I was 131 kg - 288.8 pounds , and day of surgery I was 124 kg - 273.4 pounds and now I am 117 kg - 257.9 pounds (10 days post op). (I am 184 cm height - 6.03 feet) I have not eaten any additional protein as I getting that with the soups , and will call my dietician for follow up to make sure I am doing things right, and also I feel hungry a lot however I think its just because I am dead bored with the food, not sure if this is normal or not. Looking forward to hear other peoples experience. Many thanks
  22. Hi, Brand new to the forum. After a two year journey stalled by covid, a new job and a move across the country, I finally have a surgery date and am now considering canceling. I’ve stuggled with anxiety disorder since my early 20’s - am 54 now -have done lots of therapy but the thought of panic attacks can still bring me to my knees. I take celexa daily. I’m just now-this late into all my research learning that wls can trigger more anxiety and depression. does anyone know why (beyond the obvious food mourning). am wondering if I can proceed. just started day 1 of liquid diet. thank you to anyone who responds
  23. Awesome, congrats! That's always a good feeling. I'm almost 3 months out from gastric bypass and have been going on trips. I honestly like it because its a break from the scale obsession and I always lose weight because I'm more active anyway while traveling. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

I was also told it was OK once the scabs were all off my incisions. That was at about four weeks out for me.
