  1. I have officially joined the "Losers Club" and I am so excited. I was sleeved on November 10 by Dr. Aceves. From the pre-opt diet to now I have lost 11lbs. Wow....Yah for me! Dr. Aceves and his team were wonderful. I still am experiencing some pain and lots and lots of gas. My only struggle is trying to ensure that I am getting all of my fluids in.

  4. I am so done with the way it/I used to be. I play the tape in my head of what it has been like emotionally, spiritually &physically for the last 10 years of being morbidly obese. I felt like I was missing out then, trapped, tired and miserable. I feel like I have a new lease on life now. So glad I did it. Gonna fill my time with travel, exercise, hang out with friends and family, go dancing with my husband and do fun things with my 10 year old.
  5. I had a tummy tuck on 9/10....I am still really swollen. Pretty sore. There are a lot of wrinkles on my new belly due to the binder, but I am thrilled with the results so far! Can't wait for my boobs to be done next!

I was 207 the day of my surgery Nov. 19th its almost been 3 months now..I have only lost 27 lbs since my surgery (10 before surgery)...but I have gone from a size 18 to a size 12 pants..& a 2X top to a L..I lost more inches than weight. I am a Fitness Pal freak..I measure everything & do everything right..I am just a slow loser..I went to my NUT & surgeon last week...they recommended me going from 900 calories to 1200 calories a day..I had a Metabolic Test done (which is just breathing into a machine) to rate what I should be doing, well that said I should be eating more calories & that my body was in a starvation mode (hmm). I am trying this new calorie change for a month to see if I can lose more weight..they did suggest that the more calories should come from protein only..

    Sugar Addiction Derails Weight Loss

What is it that you like about the shakes? The coldness? The creamy thickness. The sweetness? I am an ice cream junkie. It is a trigger food for me. And by the way, I love all of the above. This is what has worked for me. First, the greens plus with berry burst. It really has reduced my sugar cravings. Everyday, at some point, I mix vanilla Protein powder, a tablespoon of Greek yogurt, four frozen strawberries, maybe 10 -15 frozen blueberries, about 1/4-1/2 c Water, ice cubes when available and blend in my magic bullet. It's cold sweet, protein, and I think it's a milkshake. One of my band friends does the above with chocolate protein, and a spoon of Peanut Butter with almond milk and ice, a little Splenda for sweetness. banana is a nice change of pace too. Just slice up the banana in 1/2 inch slices with the skin on, put in a ziplock & freeze. Break off the amount of slices you want in your fake frozen but yummy shake! Hope this helps!
  8. You know the song....Tell me how I'm supposed to breathe with no air... That is my life's theme song lately. Well, every time I eat I get severe chest pain from trapped air. My nutritionist, surgeon and family doctor say it's all related to me swallowing air when I eat or drink. I had hiatal hernia repair with my VSG. My decision was not an easy one to make. I was always the "Fat, Fluffy, Happy, Woman" but then I began having "female" pain. I have had several procedures but unable to have a hysterectomy because of my weight. So my GYN gave me a proposal....if I lose 100 pounds....hysterectomy. Then I got to thinking - I've always wanted to be able to: 1. buy clothes in Walmart 2. not be worried about fitting in theatre seats, airplane seats, etc... 3. wanted to find my soulmate So God opened this door of opportunity...and I jumped in. I googled local bariatric surgeons and did alot of research. Being a nurse, I try to be very thorough. So after three months of research, I chose Dr. Nick Nicholson of Dallas, Texas. He and his colleagues had me tested for hiatal hernia - which I had. So not only did I have a VSG, I also had a "paraesophageal hernia repair with or without mesh" My highest weight was 400 pounds August of 2010. My surgery was 03/04/2014 with weight of 345 pounds. Today, my weight is 312 pounds. I have not lost anything in 10 days. My new life consists of measuring everything, weighing everything, counting everything....food, Water and exercise. I feel absolutely great - with exception of 10 day stall. So I continue to sink the lyrics of Jordin Sparks in hopes of being able to eat & breath pain free.

I need some serious help people!!!

I do the same thing except its with 10 pounds up and down. I actually have to use really good will power to lose those 10 pounds too. I can eat anything I want although I try not to. Thats one of the reasons I am being checked to see if I have stretched myself out or not. IDK the results yet but hopefully thats not a problem. I wonder if because ur drinking if everything u eat is getting washed down quickly and thats why u can eat more. I know not drinking with meals is really hard for some people. Anyway I wish u the best and GL.
  10. I only did 9 days preop just because i was in such a hurry to schedule my surgery. Dr Benavedes let me do it. I had my surgery last wednesday 10/22

    Not What I Expected

Hello everyone I have just read alot of posts of people getting there LapBand removed and I want to add my reasons why I had my removed. First I want to say my doctor did a great job putting in the LapBand no problem there. The first six weeks I lost 25 lbs. I followed the diet plan however, I was having problems with the LapBand around eight weeks when I was told to change my diet to regular solid foods. The foods on the diet plan however, when I started eating it would get clogged and I would have to drink something hot to melt it down or make myself throw up. So I thought maybe I should eat slower or the bites are to big. So I changed it. Smaller then feeding a baby with a spoon. It took me one and half hours to eat a small plate of food. Okay I went to the doctor and he took out some fluids. Same thing happened. One day I was eating dinner and I was so sick, I became light headed and and almost passed out. I was admitted in the hospital for a week (twice). My blood pressure was to low. The doctor came and removed the rest of the fluids from the LapBand and told me to wait a few weeks and come in the office and get a adjustment he gave me a very small amount and the same thing happened a few months later (twice). This don't have anything to do about educating myself about LapBand or doing research (which I did before I had it done) it was not comfortable for me. And by the way I read all the sucess stories and the complications stories on this site too. It did not give me the results I expected. I do not want to adjust my life style to taking hours to complete a meal. I have a family and a job and my whole day should not be consumed with eating a meal. It felt uncomfortable having it inside to. It took me over a year before I could lay on my stomach to sleep. Because I had to eat Yes I had to have sauces on meal so it would go down. Even having all the fluids out. Therefore, I gain weight. The regular people here who are having sucess with the LapBand can sit back and judge you because then are losing weight. Typical. But unless you are in my shoes and know how it feels to be sick with it in you, you cant judge me. Just like it is rude to judge fat people and call them lazy, because that is completely untrue. I am having it removed and I am going for another procedure that makes you FEEL FULL not like a clogged sink all the time. Good luck to the people losing weight with the LapBand it works for you. But, if you was not okay with the LapBand and had it removed, you are not alone. Next time I post it will because I was sucessful and had it removed this friday 10//31/2008. God Bless:thumbup:

Lost 77 lbs, still feel "fat"?

I lost about 120lb, have a BMI of 20 at 5ft 10 and I still feel fat many days. I have gained 7 b very needed pounds after having been ill and its driving me crazy, I'm every bit as much obsessed with that as I was with 120lb. I dont think it ever goes away but my problem now is more resisting becoming TOO thin, because no amount is ever enough for me, I could always be a bit thinnner, yet looking at photos of myself three or four months ago I lookedabsolutely awful, like I'd come out of a concentration camp. Yet I still want to go back there, simply to prove I'm in control. Its definitely a complex issue and my challenge now is allowing myself to maintain this healthier weight without trying to lose it again. My problem is I'm so tall, taller than some men too and it still makes me feel big. I think I'm striving to feel petite and that is just simply never going to happen.
  13. You know what is so funny lol...after I read your blog about what your mom said, I spent the entire night looking up youtube videos and posts about the negative effects of wls...one of which with somebody that died, and the persons family member that died is really trying hard to talk people out of getting it...a lot of the comments though were geared toward the person probably not doing what they were supposed to, and that they were a success so they don't know what they are talking about. I am getting mixed signals everywhere I turn.. My mom had gastric bypass over 10 years ago and kept her 100 pounds that she lost OFF..so obviously she is totally % FOR me getting the lap band...because she had complications, and this is safer...shes my biggest supporter..my whole family and boyfriend is. We know people too that had gastric bypass and the lap band done and it didn't work for them at all...they lost some and then gained it back..so I think for some people who aren't all in it, yeah thats exactly why it doesn't work for them...but it doesn't mean I'm not having second thoughts...because I am...even though I'm still doing every single thing I need to do...I'm just one step away...but after reading that blog I just got terrified and then reading all of the other awful things..I think it will be worth it in the long run. I see soo many people on here and all over who have had so much success with it and its changed their lives...so why wouldn't it work for me when I'm % in it, and I've already lost 30 pounds on my own?

    Getting stuck question

I have had this happen. I wasn't even able to swallow water. It came on very suddenly. I did have a gi work up and it was inflammation of the lining of my stomach, which my surgeon told me can happen from time to time. There was nothing to do for it and it resolved on it's own after about a week. It happened when I was about 19 mos after surgery. I am now 3+ yrs and I have not experienced it since.

    Problems with rice?

Bread and rice are a big no no. It sits so heavy on your stomach. At 7 weeks I was just starting soft foods. You need to baby your new pouch and give it time to heal. Enjoy your pouch now and eat right. Now you are not as hungry as you will be 10 months down the road and if you start eating that type of food now, I fear for you at 10 months. Know someone who lost 70 lbs, started eating like pre surgery and gained 11 lbs. She has a long, hard road ahead of her. Change your mind set now while you are in the early stages, follow Drs orders, eat protein, take vitamins, and drink fluids.

    VITAMINS!!!???

I was told no gummies as well. I was also told chewable only as they are easiest to absorb. I take the bypass and sleeve optimized once per day by unjury. They cost $10 per month. I also use unjurys calcium citrate. I have glanced around the store here and they do seem to have decent prices as well. I like the fact that unjury contains no ingredients from China. Your team should give you direction and probably a list of what they prefer you to use. Lots of good choices out there

    No appetite at all.....

Bevanne, I personally got a little hungry on Day 10 but then wasn't hungry at all when I went to soft foods. Around week 7 my hunger came back and I felt like I was hungry 2 hours after eating. At around 3+ months, the hunger seems to be lessened again. My surgeon thought it had something to do with Sleeve irritation and I did take carafate for a week after my 3 month checkup. Maybe that helped soothe my Sleeve and took away some of the hunger.

    Down how many dress sizes

I was a size 20W June 2015 and am now a size 8 (sometimes a 10). I actually need to shift and stop losing as I am below my original goal weight! I'm still well within a normal BMI, but feel happy where I'm at!

Okay Bunnies... who have you told?

I told (asked) my husband right from the beginning. I knew there would be no way I could do it without his support. Later on I told my 2 boys (19 and 17 years old) They are ok with it now but there first reaction was lose the weight on your own. I finally told my sister last week in a round about way because I was not sure what she would say. She works for a PCP and I was worried she would be against it. She actually said maybe we should do it together. But I'm too far into it now to wait on her besides her weight isn't that bad, but I would support her if she does decided to do it. I knew she would tell my mother about it and she did. So Mom's is ok with it. I did not tell them the date and I feel bad about that but I don't want them to try and make a 3 to 4 hour drive to come to the hospital. And I know theywould insist on coming, so I'll tell them I'm done after I'm done (Thurs 4-16). I told no one at work as all my best buds have been laid off the rest of the people I talk to are just acquaintances no so much true friends. And they will definitely be wanting to talk about it all the time and be watching to see how I do. Maybe eventually I'll tell them or maybe not.
  24. I had my surgery Tuesday August 6th at 1:30. Well my surgeon was late so I didn't get in to surgery till almost 5. I don't remember anything after bing wheeled into the O R, I remember all the nurses after trying to take care of me. But mostly sleeping till Wednesday morning. My nurse was trying to get me to drink my liquids. And I was trying but everything I took in I threw up and then some. They had to give me everything by I.V. I couldn't keep ANYTHING down. The surgeon came in later on Wednesday and told me that I was probably all swollen. And my saliva was filling my pouch. And anything else I put in was overflowing it. So for the rest of Wednesday I took nothing by mouth. Then Thursday I was scared to try to swallow anything but I took a couple of spoons of broth and sips of water and it stayed down. But I wasn't taking as much as they wanted so the kept me for another day. I had no other pain. None of my incisions were painful and I had no gas pains at all. I was up everyday walking all over the hospital. Didn't have pain when i got up or sat down. My nurse came in and took out my staples on friday afternoon, i had 19 all together. Put some sterile strips on them and dr prescribed me my meds and now i am home and doing just fine.
