    Am I crazy?

You're definitely not crazy. Certain foods can increase mucous production (dairy and orange juice are examples). But the most likely offender is the time of year....allergies can cause post nasal drip (PND) and you may not even be aware that you have allergies because they can be quite mild....not every suffers terribly with allergies. Also, if you had a summer cold (like I did), it can take weeks for the PND to end (it took me more than a month after the cold was gone).

After over 12 years...time to remove

Hey JFuller. Hope your appointment went well with your doctor and you got some answers to your problem. Sounds like it has been a bit rough lately. I had my band 2 1/2 years and we got along just fine until this April. I had a major slip and the blood supply was cut off from most of my stomach. I vomited blood for over 24 hours when rescue came and picked me up at work. I had surgery that night and my band was removed. I still have Gastric Sleeve Plication and my doctor said that the scar tissue from my band will act like my band for awhile. Well, in the past month, I have gained a few pounds (11 I thin) but this is OK with me and the doctor. I had got a bit malnurouished and now I have B12 and B1 injections every week to rebuild. I am also starting a new relationship with food. With this sleeve, I can eat differently, but I have to eat wisely and I am just not there yet. I have return to exercising and I feel so much better. I really didn't know my band was making me sick until is made me very sick. Take care and keep us posted on your progress. I really understand..this journey is tough too... Melinda in Florida

    In testing phase

I hear you! I am 4 weeks post op now and I have 2 mantras: "I'M NEVER GOING BACK!" and "IT's JUST NOT WORTH IT!" (when tempted to taste or take a bit of something not allowed.) This is way too much work, money, and risk to throw it away. Use this pre-op time to really clean up your eating. After surgery, you want every bite to be as nutritionally dense as possible, and as healthy as possible. The "New you" deserves nothing less. Get rid of the artificial sweeteners, colors and flavorings. Get rid of the soda and caffeine. (Caffeine may come back later, but you may find you feel better and more stable without it and really not want it anymore. I LOVED coffee, but can't even stomach the thought of it now!) Absolutely get rid of the sugar! ALL sugar! Get rid of processed food. Cook it yourself. Get rid of simple carbs/starches. Minimize wheat or get rid of it altogether. Learn to enjoy other whole grains like quinoa, brown rice, millet, teff, amaranth. Learn to enjoy veggies - LOTS of veggies! They will be the life saver of you success. Of course, get rid of alcohol and tobacco. If you can start making these lifestyle changes NOW, you will have a much easier time after surgery. Recovery is hard enough without having to cold turkey off addictions like sugar and caffeine. Use this time to really EMBRACE the changes. Each change you make means you "WILL NEVER GO BACK!" As far as temptations go, yes they are there, but..... "IT'S JUST NOT WORTH IT!" I had to fix a full Mexican meal for a family party, make muffins for work, and cake for a birthday party. I did take a couple of tiny tastes to check for seasoning, but then I spit them out. I remind myself that my time will come to have some of these things, but not right now. Each choice you make is a choice to "go back" or "never go back." Remember that a slip up one day is a mistake. A slip up 2 days in a row is called RELAPSE. Just get back on board immediately. I found that keeping my food journal is critical. I plan all my meals (as tiny as they are) the day before, so there is no guess work the next day. We got ourselves where we are by a lot of bad choices over a long time. (Even if we thought they were good choices at the time with the dieting, starvation, and other crazy stuff we did to wreck our metabolisms and disrupt the normal hormone pathways.) It will take a lot of GOOD choices to rewire our brains and reframe our thinking about food - what is wonderful (veggies) and what is poison (sweets and simple carbs.) We can do it! Let your OCD and rules work for you!!!!!

    low calorie intake...bad?

Hi I'm with Midwest Girl I used to love to gulp water all day long! I'd get over 100 oz down a day, then i got sleeved and guess what? Can't even get down the blinkin' 64 oz now. . . like Midwest, I add sf crystal light or SF welshes blended berry mix to the water. . . it's much better now and as long as i sip small amounts i do really well. . . i'm now at almost 60 oz at it's taken me about 3 1/2 weeks. . . keep trying it'll get better, I promise. . .I'm definately NOT allowed oatmeal or potatoes at all during the first 6 months . . doctor told me it would slow down the weight loss because of the amount of carbs. . . maybe don't eat those and substitute with something else. . I'm still on high protein foods, fatfree cottage cheese, fatfree ricotta cheese, fatfree string cheese, fatfree refried Beans, sf puddings, fatfree yogurt, fatfree mootopia milk, Protein shakes, very mushy tunafish and so on. . Next week i get to try extra lean ground hamburger meat and extra lean ground turkey, we'll see about that! Good luck, I hope it all settles down and you can carry on with your journey. . .

    2days post op

I had three days of clear fluids, then several days of clear fluids one hour, Protein shake the next. At about a week, I added yogurt, oatmeal, cream of wheat, sugar free pudding, and cream soup. At about a week and a half, I added potatoes, a little very soft meat, a little tofu, beans. I went a little faster than most...but I've suffered zero nausea, and my activity is through the roof. I approached each food very cautiously and my body was ready. Everyone is different. The swelling inside your stomach will improve differently for each person. Take it easy, take it slow....you'll get there!
  7. It's definitely worth it. I'm 7 weeks out and down 36 lbs. Good Luck!

    300 calories if I'm lucky

Jan, I'm almost 7 weeks out and still often only get to 300 calories -- case in point, yesterday was 313. Patience are a virtue and you'll need all you can dig up right now. Try to get your liquids in, but even at that, I'm lucky if I get to 40 ounces. Am working with the nutritionist on these issues.

    Humana Select Insurance

Hi Derby, Thanks for responding to my post. I went to my surgeon today and I'm hoping to get approval by next Thursday. He gave me a date for December 23 or possibly the 21 if another patient does not get approval. I to am a teacher and would love to have my surgery done while on Christmas break. I will need to start my 2 week fast this coming Thursday to be able to have my surgery. I plan on calling Humana on Monday. I am so prepared for this to happen. I am thankful that Humana made me wait the 6 months. It gave me time to do my research and make a sound decision about having Lapband surgery. Do you have a date yet? I live in St Petersburg. Dr Huguet is my surgeon. I really like him and feel comfortable with him. He has a very compassionate way about him. Let me know where you are in your journey, Hope to hear from you soon.
  12. I had my post op visit on 2/22/18 and everything went really well. I am down -19lbs since my surgery on 2/12/18. [emoji6] My doctor said to focus on hydration and exercise. [emoji108] I am happy with those results and trying to push myself into a healthier mentality. Like getting up to exercise, drinking water everywhere I go, getting to bed at a decent time, resisting the foods that got me here, etc. I really want a Philly Cheesesteak.[emoji31] [emoji23] Sleeved on 2/12/18

    The dreaded 3 week stall

Hi I pray your stall pass quickly. Congrats on the surgery and increasing the activity. You got this!
  14. Sigh. I may well consider a breast lift myself, lol. That's precisely what I mean Sammee. There are more important goals than physical perfection to be considered, although for sure, achieving what you want to physically is important. If I get to 160lb I think I'll be trying to focus on what I've gained, not what I still have to lose, I just think that's a healthier focus is all. And if your body has decided 160 is it, then there's so many things to Celebrate. If you want to work harder and lose more than that's great too. I simply am making the point that you have to decide yourself when you're finished. That elusive "perfection" doesnt exist as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Therefore it doesnt matter one whit if you're happy at 160lb or would be happier at 140 - that's your decision. As I said, you're finished when you decide you're finished. Maybe I didnt say it as well as I could have. I dont know, I value my body for what it can do, more so than what it looks like. Its born three beautiful healthy children, its fed three beautiful healthy children. It can run, it can perform some functions darn well, it even has some special talents, I've been a state level softballer and netballer in my day. Its a great body. What it weighs is not a patch on what it can do in my opinion. I get that some people are more fussed by what their bodies look like, but you can gain a whole new respect for yourself and a whole new level of peace if you learn to think about yourself from a different perspective. Those are the kinds of things that I consider it healthy to think about when deciding your goal weight. So Newsho I'm sorry you seem to find everything I say these days offensive, but not everybody is focussed entirely on what they look like, and you're smart enough to know that.

    Help! Need encouragement and answers

Hi Daniel, Sorry you're having such a difficult time this last month and a half. I bet the new fill will start helping. You just have to stick to the "rules of the tool", no more than 1/2-3/4 cup at a sitting, 75% protein & 25% good carbs (track your food, it's so easy to forget and over do it!), 64 ounces of water (30 min before and 1 hour after eating), at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. I kinda know what you're going through, I've been on a 6 month stall...lost 7 pounds in 6 months! It was, however because I was not following the "rules". They really are important to the weightloss process. Once I started following them again, the weight started coming off again! Good luck with everything! It can definately be a difficult lifestyle change...ya just gotta do it, for you! I'll be rooting for ya!
  19. I will be 3 weeks post op weds and I sooooooo want to feel normal again
  20. How is everyone doing we have nearly reached our 1st week out! I see my Dr. today for my post op visit. I hope he will release me to return to work. I feel like I will be able to do this on Monday. I am doing great. Still a little sore at my port site and when I breath deeply. Some off and off again shoulder pain. Other than that I feel amazing for just having surgery. I went out to the store with my Mom and daughter and my 2 grandsons for a couple of hours yesterday to get me out of the house. I needed to walk and wanted to be outside. I hate being couped up in the house like this. I hate watching TV all day. I did not nap yesterday for the 1st time since surgery and fell asleep at 6pm in my chair....LOL. DH has been so wonderful taking care of me, I feel like a queen. I want to cook 4 him and I can't wait til next week that is when I plan on cooking again. I will have the same food just puree it. Hope everyone is doing great and recovering well. It is such a relief to be over this hump and on to the next stretch. I just can't wait to get back in the Water. I miss my water aerobics and walking in the pool so much.
  21. I am into my seventh week, and had been tolerating soft boiled eggs well until this morning. I got half way through and then just could not stop heaving. It has made me ill for the entire day and really put me off food. Has this happened to anyone else?

    After first week out ???

I had plain vanilla yogurt that first week. I put a little milk in it to thin it out. It was a great way to get protein and NOT a protein shake:-)

    After first week out ???

I know there are a lot of views on weighing yourself daily. I weighed (and still do) everyday but I don't let it bother me if the scale doesn't move or fluctuates slightly upward. After years of not wanting to know what the scale said, it is important for me to weigh in everyday to stay accountable. I'm six months out and getting closer to my goal weight, things have slowed down but that is to be expected. Stick to your plan and you will have amazing results. Oh, and I started dairy (greek yogurt, cottage cheese and ricotta cheese) around 3 weeks maybe a little less.
  24. Sigh, sadly yes. I am 6 weeks out and I'm having chicken issues. Just can't stomach the stuff anymore and I could a week or two ago. My stomach and tastes have completely shifted since the surgery, fortunately for the better. Maybe try the eggs again in a week or two and see if it's just a phase your belly is going through.

    5 days post op working?

Yes, it really depends on your job. I have a friend who was back in 5 days, but she's got a desk-type job; she said she was extremely tired due to the low caloric intake & practically zero protein & carbs that week, but she was otherwise fine. Myself on the other hand, I took 8 weeks. That's what my doc recommended, and I work in a busy hospital laboratory where I'm standing most of the day. I felt strong enough to go back after about 3 weeks, but my mother passed away 2 weeks after my surgery so I stayed out for the full 8 weeks to take care of all of that. Good luck!
