    foamies HELP

My whole first month everything smelled strange and tasted bad. Even if I found something I could eat I could only eat it a couple times before it turned my stomach. Soups were easiest to eat so I added unflavored Protein to them. Soups like french onion, seafood bisque, clam chowder (I filtered out the clams, they bothered me at that time), broccoli cheese, and pea Soup (still my favorite). I could manage Protein shakes and yogurt, too but I got thoroughly sick of sweet things pretty quick. Hot herbal teas were good too. Tastes and smells will get better. Hope you feel better soon!
  2. I am not sure if you have a Kroger in your area but they have whats called Carb Master Yogurt. Only 4 carbs, 8 grams of protein and 60 calories. Several different flavors. They now have Carb Master milk and lite greek yogurt. All designed to have more protein than standard brands.

    Edema

Thanks, @MIZ60. I did not have shortness of breath before the surgery except when I dragged my fat azz up a flight of stairs, but I did have a lot of swelling in my legs. The doctors had always blamed it on my salt intake (it's my favorite food group) and since I had no other issues, they pretty much ignored it. However, my salt intake is now <800mg most days, so that isn't it. I was actually shocked at how low it was, but since I'm still living on yogurt, protein water and minced tuna salad, it's not hard to explain. In the last month, I've gotten progressively worse. Kinda scary. I get super dizzy every time I stand and I'm nauseous all the time. They did an upper GI on Wed. and found severe reflux. On top of all that, I have a Grade-A case of the stupids. People literally have to ask me the same question 2 - 3 times before I get it. UGH! Because of a family history of heart problems, the surgeon referred me to a cardiologist before surgery. He thought I had a blockage from the nuclear stress test so he ordered a heart cath. I was already 6 days into the pre-op diet at that point and he cancelled my surgery until after the cath could be done. Turns out, my heart was fine, I just have super skinny veins, but no blockages. Wouldn't you know, I had one really skinny part of my body and no one could SEE IT! Anyway, I left a message at the surgeons office about the IV lasix. Hopefully they get back to me before I get another dose in about an hour. I appreciate your concern!
  6. Hummus, puréed soups, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt
  7. An Atkins like diet is very doable with the Lapband. My Dr has me on protein shakes, lean proteins & non starchy veggies, so everything is low carb. I probably stay right around 20 carbs a day. During the mushy stage I ate a lot of canned chicken mixed with a little nonfat greek yogurt & Franks red hot sauce, and a very well blended veggie (baby food consistency). Now that I have been eating solid foods for a while I have no problems sticking to a low carb diet, only difference then Atkins is that I also try to stay pretty low fat as well. Good Luck!

    Need to eat!

I can have scrambled egg, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, string cheese, purée tuna, purée chicken, shredded cheese on egg, fish, purée turkey. No apple sauce can have jello and pudding too. Was supposed to be eating all these things this past week. NUT was mad at me today for only so far being able to eat a half an egg a day. NUT wants me to eat these foods 3x per day plus 2 protein drinks!!!!!!

    Trouble flying?

I've flown with no problems at all. Everyone's band-sensitivities are different. Don't remember doc giving me special flying instructions back in '09 when I was banded. I'm pretty sure You can bring sealed, unopened liquids in your carry-on. Muscle Milk Protein shake is sold in most convenience & grocery stores pre-mixed. It's pretty good tasting & has a lot of added Vitamins in it. It's also what I buy for road trips. Easy meal, not messy & satisfying. I've stopped at restaurant/lounge on layovers for cocktail & meal- unrestricted as to what I eat except for the quantity restricted by my ban. I make good, healthy food choices- usually lol. They have some fairly healthy options at these places near the gates and also at this quick grab-n-go coffee shops w/ sandwiches, yogurt, salads, etc. One of these quick stops near the gate (forget the name) has smoothies, and you can ask to add a scoop of protein powder. THAT was a great find! I think the issue with flying for bandsters is cabin pressurization. I've noticed when I bring a sealed Water bottle in carry-on, it looks "squeezed out"/ crumpled- sort of like when they squeeze plastic milk bottles- indented like- but more so in flight. I imagine pressurization has a similar effect on the liquid-filled, plastic band. It's never a good idea for banders to eat until full. It's probably best to keep it light in-flight. Another reason why I eat light is, I wouldn't want something to get stuck & have to run to ladies' room to purge- and (horrors!) miss my flight.
  10. For a while i had major runs so stopped protein shakes with milk. For a week. Today had one and been running to bathroom all day. Yet yogurt doesnt bother me.

    Great Food Products!

I made a delish jalapeno ranch dip/dressing usuing greek yogurt instead of sour cream and mayo and it was AWESOME!! I just used 2 cups greek yogurt, 1 pack of dry ranch dressing, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, chopped jalepeno to taste, 1 small can of drained green chilies, I also used this over boneless skinless chicken. It was so moist!!!

    Scared

@@2goldengirl At my personal support group we talked about leaks and someone there had one past 3 months; it does occur mainly because the healing process is different for each person. I do not believe is a leak because I would have a fever and other symptoms that go with a leak. I am waiting until Wednesday because the pain has continued with every bite of everything other than yogurt, and at this stage, eating just yogurt is not appealing! LOL.
  15. I need help yall I am 5 days post op and I don't feel any different. I feel like I am starving. I have been eating my jello not sure how many oz at a time.eating yogurt but I can eat the whole 6 oz and drink a 11 oz protein drink is that normal??? I have not yet had a BM just been passing gas. I am feeling like CRAP because I feel like I can eat and I am hungry. I feel like CRAP because I feel like I ate the whole thing of yogurt and protein drink and I shouldn't have been able to do that. Please need help in understanding this new me
  16. Congrats! I'm still trying to figure out how to get it all in. Liquids, broth? etc. I don’t know how you're getting by with no scale, I'm a tad obsessed. Look fwd to it each morning. Moving on to my phase 2 tomorrow. I never thought I would be so excited for yogurt or soup!!
  17. 1. I'm trying to do the no Water 30mins prior, during and 30mins after a meal.… Yep, it's lifelong. It's something most of us have to work at to "learn". But from what I understand, it's critical to success.
 2. I tried a shake this morning (1 scoop of whey chocolate powder (30g of protein) and 8oz of chocolate almond milk). … I'm partial to Isopure Protein water (the pineapple is my favorite). It does have an aftertaste, but it packs a protein punch, which is much needed, especially when you're in the liquid diet stage(s). For powder, I like Eat the Bear brand. It’s a little on the sweet side, but it dissolves quickly and smoothly in water, and the taste is OK. I’ve also recent purchased Garden for Life Raw Protein in the Chai Tea flavor. Don’t really care for it, but I do half and half with the Eat the Bear powder. It is based on sprouted seeds and has some Fiber, which I could use right now. 3. Is there no snack between meals ever? In a perfect world, Snacks should probably be protein based (sardines, jerky, small amounts of Peanut Butter, greek yogurt, cheese sticks, etc…) I think you’ll find your hunger greatly diminished, and the need for a snack might subside a bit. 4. I'm switching to decaf so I can get used to no caffeine. I’ve been having caffeine since a few days post-op, though it’s 1 medium Dunkin in the morning (with cream). Herbal tea, water, Isopusre and water flavored with True Lemon/True Lime make up the rest of the day. 5. Do you have to puree food the 2nd week? The thought of eating pureed chicken or tuna makes me kinda sick lol... I had 3 days clear liquids pre-op, than 1 week clear liquids post-op, second week full liquids, and pureed foods starting week 3. I couldn’t wait until I was able to have scrambled eggs. I’ll be on purees until April 20. Pureed chicken breast isn’t that bad if you puree it with chicken stock and serve it up with a dollop of mushroom gravy. My doctor allows for white fish, flaked (doesn’t have to be pureed), so I enjoy that too. Liver pate has become a new staple for me. Best of luck to you!
  18. Echoing what others said, I have hot tea first thing in the morning. I don't think I could eat real food within hours of waking up if I didn't. The hot tea feels like it opens me up, and allows me to swallow my meds that I can't get in chewable form (and hate the taste of crushed). I like to do greek yogurt for breakfast because it goes down easily. Good luck to you!

    New Here And Saying "hi".

I had canned chicken with light mayo/Greek yogurt to moisten it further. Went down super easy. Can I try finely diced celery in it? I will keep moist in mind when I cook it for myself. Thanks for the tip.

    Am I doing this right?

Honestly not sure why you are trying to eat so much at one time. My nut told me 1/4 cup of purées and yogurts at 3 weeks and that was all I could take. Even that would take me at least 1/2 hour to get down. So if you're trying to eat a half cup in 15 min three weeks out, perhaps you are just trying to eat like way too much. Protein shakes are what they are and you gotta do a lot of them the first few weeks.
  22. Hello everybody! I was just wondering what your day looks like during te puréed stage. How much can you eat in a sitting; Ive been doing 2 tablespoons of protein (ie: tuna blended with Greek yogurt) and 2 tablespoons (or less) of mashed potato. I feel I could eat more. I don't want to overeat. I also don't know when I'm full. How do you know you are full? Thank you in advance!

    Newbie

Hi, I had my sleeve done January 8,2015 because I was tired of taking insulin for my diabetes still most of the time feeling tire. My sugar readings were great the first seven week and than I started feeling bad. My diabetes came back and I was back to feeling like my old self again. I am back on my medication and very unhappy about. Will this too pass? I sure hope so. I have lost 34 pounds, look good but hoping I don't have to continue to take this insulin forever. Has anyone ever been thru this before. Please Help! Also, I am tire of eating yogurts, and shakes etc. What else is there to eat and drink? We can't drink sodas, so what are we suppose to drink? Sometimes I feel like I don't have a taste. I really need some help with this?
  24. I had my surgery on Nov 1 and I'm doing good, no pain just sore. Sometimes I get lightheaded and nut said I'm not getting in my protein. This is true but I can not tolerate protein shakes, I feel like I'm going to throw up. I also don't use sugar free products so I am limited on what I can have. I have unflavored protein powder (10 grams) I have been putting it in my cream soup and yogurt, which is only 30 grams a day. Does anyone have any suggestion on what else I can eat? I don't think I can go like this for another week. One positive thing is I have no hunger, its amazing. Thanks Janine
  25. Hey there! Don't worry about asking questions... EVERYONE has a million questions before surgery and everyone is scared! Regarding the food I can eat. So far, there hasn't been anything I can't tolerate. There are a few things that go down better if there is sauce to make it more juicy. For example, when I eat chicken I usually make a yogurt sauce to dip it in. I also sometimes make Soup, and I eat the broth first, and wait a little bit before eating the solids--chicken is pretty tender when you cook it this way. As to your question about the number of calories, I'm not sure. The lowest I ever went before surgery was 1200 calories. Maybe your surgeon can give you some advice on this one.... As to the liquid diet, I had no problem with it, other than getting really bored and craving something savory. I ate a lot of Protein drinks and prayed for the mushy phase :-). I'm sure you could probably drink a latte (although we were told to stay away from caffeine early out, so I'd go with a decaffeinated latte maybe :-))I hope that helps! If it makes you feel any better, none of the things I was afraid of happened. I've had a really easy experience, and my restriction has been good, but I haven't had any of the typical problems that bandsters have like sliming, vomiting, and feeling stuck.... I hope that helps! Best of luck to you!
