Wow is all I can say! I don't feel too bad! Doing better everyday and still on clear liquids and shakes! I know I am not getting enough but I just don't want more? My mind is super hungry for real food!!! All the commercials make me hungry! I want this and want to do what is needed to get this weight OFF!!! -
I have heard of people taking Synthroid for Hypothyroidism and them BOOM magically they are cured and taken off the meds?!?! I really believe it was a misdiagnosis because Hypothyroidism not cured with weight loss. (I have a co-worker that claims his thyroid magically worked after taking meds for 1 year and losing weight... Hmmm) I have searched high and low for medical proof. The most I have found is that certain foods hinder your thyroid function. By eliminating those foods, you can help boost function but not cure it. In fact, my Dr has assured me, I will be on Synthroid for the rest of my life. I have a extremely low functioning thyroid (my Dr referred to my thyroid as being DEAD!) and I take 125mcg per day. My endo put it to me like this: take the Synthroid for the rest of your life to help perk up the thyroid or have surgery to take out the thyroid and continue to take meds for the rest of your life. Wow... real win-win situation there. Also, I believe the dose of Synthroid is based on your thyroid function, not on your weight.

Woow i swear i thought i was the only one going through this roadblock smh my surgery was also 8/4/15 and ive lost only 19 lbs. im like something aint right? Did my surgeon perform the surgery correctly? Lol its soo aggravating when i see other people a month in and theyve lost almost 40-60 lbs what the heck. I've learned that I can't handle breads, cake, cupcakes, pancakes, cornbread, tortillas, most sweets, sausage, red meat (even ground), pork, rice, most pastas, and pills of any kind anymore. chocolate? Sure, But only a bout 3 of the miniature Hershey's bars. Strawberries curb my desire for chocolate though. You are entering a whole new life. Either embrace it and stick to the diet your Nutritionist lays out for you, or be a dummy like me and eat things that cause you pain. Thursday I had scrambled eggs, sausage, and pancakes for dinner. I woke up at 1am with pain that made me wish I would just die right there on the bathroom floor. I didn't eat the right things, and now I have gastritis. "Problems that can occur after Lap-Band placement include nausea, vomiting, acid reflux, heartburn, stomach ulcer, gastritis, gas bloat, trouble swallowing, dehydration, diarrhea, constipation and weight regain." - This is from non compliance aka: eating the wrong things. You are in charge of your body, and slip ups will happen. But don't pre-plan an opportunity for that. Be smart and plan to have things available for you that WON'T cause you issues.

I haven't found anything I can't eat if I want to. But, if you plan to lose weight there are several of these that you should avoid. Remember it's these things that that put you where you are. My problem with these things, if I have one, I've lost most control and will inevitably have more.

Pre-Band Eating Habits? HELP!
jjsmiles replied to southerngirltx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just to add what my typical day looks like now: I ALWAYS have breakfast. Weekdays I have an individual package of oatmeal (either low sugar or weight control). On weekends I will have 1/4 to 1/2 cup of egg whites scrambled, with some parmesan cheese on 1-2 slices of weight watchers toast. Occasionally I will have real eggs. Lunch: some kind of protein - either turkey or chicken or lean ham, tuna or cottage cheese or cheese (usually about 2 oz), some kind of carbohydrate (crackers, or weight wathcher's bread), 100 g of fat free yogurt and a piece of fruit (I might save the fruit and yogurt for a snack). I may also have some raw veggies (although I am not very fond of raw veggies, so mostly not). Dinner: protein (usually 3-4 oz) and lots of veggies. I love cooked veggies - some favorites: asparagus, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, brocoli, spinach, edamame beans, green beens. I don't use a lot of sauces, but I do use extra virgin olive oil, and parmesan cheese and some sauces (ie stir fry or salad dressing). I can still eat pasta and I will have pasta about once a week. Evening snack: 100 calorie packs (popcorn is a favorite), turkey pepperoni (only 45-50 calories per stick ), fruit, suagr free pudding (about 60-100 calories per 1/2 cup), homemade high fiber, low fat, muffin (under 100 calories each), or a vita muffin (around 100 calories). I always plan an evening snack, even though I don't snack much during the day, because my real weakness is evening eating. If I am going to have cookies, or cake, usually it is on the weekend and I have it and enjoy it immensely. Despite my horrible eating patterns of the past, I am finding this way of eating pretty easy to maintain. I have been eating this way consistently for 9 months now (some slips - we won't talk about my trip to Europe last summer). I have never done this in my ENTIRE life for this long. I started this way of eating pre-band, but it is much easier to maintain since the band. Most of the time I actually have to plan to eat, to make sure I am eating enough nutritious stuff. That said, I still want to eat in the evenings, even when full :frown: Sorry for the long post, but I just wanted to let you know that I am probably the poster child for dysfunctional eating and letting food control me (please note my highest ever known weight). I just want to let people know that if you are willing to commit yourself, you can and will be successul, but it is a lot of hard work that you have to do for yourself. I read on a post in the last couple of days that someone said she looked at the band as a maintenance tool, but the actual weight loss was up to her. That statement really spoke to me and, in my case, I 100% agree. Good luck and know that you CAN do it!:frown: -
Popcorn is way down the road. I would say at least a few months. You can't take the chance of a kernel getting lodged in the staple line along your new sleeve. There is no nutritional value to popcorn, anyway. You need nutrient rich foods the first few months to keep that muscle you'll be losing along with the weight.

Not losing weight during the liquid diet
timetobefree replied to cdt's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Everyone is different. I lost 12 lbs the week after banding and then last week, on full liquids, I gained 4 lbs, despite never going over 1200 calories daily. You are still healing. Just be conscious of not eating empty calories, but don't be concerned if you don't lose. It'll happen. (I keep telling myself the same thing.) Amy -
Hi. I'm new to the forum and new to the LAP-BAND®. I was banded one week ago today. I thought I would be able to go back to work today, but I'm still feeling very tender and bloated. I have a pocket of gas or something on my left side that I can barely stand to touch. My surgeon said that I would only need five days to recover, but I took a sick day today so that I could get stronger before returning. My LAP-BAND® surgery was my second procedure in four days. Four days before banding, I had a gyn procedure done that kind of laid me low for a few days. I wasn't expecting it to be that painful or difficult when I scheduled my LAP-BAND®, but having those two procedures so close together is probably what has made my LAP-BAND® recovery take longer than the doctor said it would. What I'm concerned about right now is that I have lost only one pound since my surgery a week ago, and of course I've had no food at all. I had my banding three days before Thanksgiving and six days before my birthday. No celebrations there. I was alright with it because I was excited about starting on my weight loss journey, but I'm discouraged that I haven't started losing. Did anyone else not lose during the liquid diet phase?

13 weeks pregnant, high risk and banded
armywife71503 posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
My name is Lindsey. I am 26 years old. I was banded in August 2009. My starting weight was 300 lbs at surgery. My current weight is 192 lbs. I have lost a total of 108 lbs. I am 13 weeks pregnant and due on April 1st, 2011. I have 2 amazing little boys at home. We have also had two stillborn daughters and lost a third daughter during pregnancy. I also have a history of genetic X female abnormalities and pre-term labor. I am considered high risk for many reasons and the lap-band is just the icing on the cake. I have lost 20 lbs since finding out I was pregnant. My doctors are not wanting to remove any Fluid at all. I have 5 1/2 cc's in right now. My OB said he would not even begin to worry until I have lost 10% of my pre-pregnancy bodyweight. That is only 1 lb away now. I am not hungry. I am trying to force food down, but I feel even more restricted being pregnant than I did pre-pregnancy. I am pretty much living on Ensure and salad :rolleyes2: My pants are no longer able to be buttoned despite the 20 lb weight loss, so I know I am getting bigger just losing weight. After all of my previous losses, this entire situation is just making me nervous. I am so glad that I just found this website as nobody on my other pregnancy message boards truly understands what I am going through and the complications that I am facing. -
13 weeks pregnant, high risk and banded
Jachut replied to armywife71503's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
It sounds like things are going great. Its understandable that you would be nervous, you've had some traumatic experiences in the past. I have not been banded and pregnant but I have been pregnant and lost significant weight. On purpose, with the blessing of my doctor because I was 220 odd pounds when I conceived and I had had preeclampsia twice before. I did NOT want to pile on weight, although in the ironic way these things go, that is not the way my body tends to react to pregnancy. Statistically, gaining weight during pregnancy within normal limits is associated with a healthy pregnancy. That's only a statistic. As my doc pointed out for me, the baby needs nutrition, not fat. You need to take in adequate carbs, Protein, Vitamins and minerals, you do not necessarily need to take in a lot of extra calories and gain fat. You can gain the average weight during pregnancy by eating Big Mac's or ice cream and pickles or whatever(in fact most women do!) and you have not done one single thing to increase your odds of a healthy baby whereas you can eat perfectly, not gain weight and have done brilliant things for your baby. If you are sure you're eating the recommended intakes of various foods and you are supplementing well, dont let minor weight loss worry you, if its getting a bit out of control, supplement with somethign healthy like a fruit smoothie, made with some milk, some fruit, even a bit of cream or full fat yogurt. That packs in calories AND nutrition (I wouldnt turn to artificial foods like shakes at this time, if you want to go that way go for a weight gain supplement without all the artificial ingredients). If you really cant eat enough, the unfill a bit, you'll probably get tighter and need to eventually. good luck! -

I just had my little girl and I never got unfilled...I ended up losing a lot of weight my entire pregnancy...I went from 210 to 190 and stayed that way my entire pregnancy...not til the very end did I actually gain any weight..I weighed 198 when I delivered...my baby girl was healthy as a horse...no issues with her what so ever..I barely ate myself, although I didn't feel anymore restricted then I usually feel...I just ate slower and drank a ton of water prior to eating..I drank protein shakes in the morning to be able to get the protein and vitamins...just make sure you get enough protein and water..also make sure you take your prenatal vitamins too...Best of luck with your pregnancy and congrats..hope you can relax and enjoy your pregnancy.. -
Not losing weight during the liquid diet
destined4thinness replied to cdt's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
unfortunately, my banding is to take place on friday so i cant respond to the weight loss issuse but i did want to respond to encourage you. Your body has been through alot in the past weeks. Dont be down and out on yourself because of the 1 pound loss remember you're still swollen from not only the banding but your previous procedure as well just wait and see once that fluid run out of your body you'll be pleased with the minor results. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP! -
Awesome weight loss! Is everything going smoothly? How was your recovery? Lisa :-)

Started on mushies last week...and weight loss has seemed to stop..I don't want to put an ounce back on..Dr says no excersizing till 6 w checkup..that I can walk 5 minutes a day besides working.....what to do?
-
Okay, so I took another test, and it was a big fat negative But you know, I am hopeful. By this time next year, I will have (probably) lost all the weight and possibly that will regulate my cycles and I WILL get pregnant!
-
I started mushies and my weight loss STOPPED totally. I fluctuated up about 2lbs. Soft foods...same thing. Started on solids 2 weeks later and voila! Weight started coming off again. Hang in there and don't worry.

I was banded in January 2008. Always looking for someone to be a lapband buddy/mentor. Even though I have support from my family and coworkers, it is nice to have outside support. If anyone is available, let me know!! I am only 25 pounds from goal weight and could use that little extra support, just like anyone else.

I'm getting it done and want to know what does it hurt like?
Guest replied to a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have had my Gallbladder removed laproscopic and the gas pains were bad but I guess I am a big baby. But It would definatley be worth the pain to be on the losing side finally. I have tried everything to lose this weight and The lap band would be a great tool to have in my corner from all the research I've done at www.obesityhelp.com -
Usually after a fill my usual surgeon recommends 3 days clear liquids. Seven days full liquid. Then as tolerated per nutritional guidelines. Shocks my metabolism! Works out great! With exercise during that time the weight just melted off. I had to start seeing a new surgeon and he said that was just my surgeons recommendations. His is 24 hour liquids. Then as tolerated. It really depends on the surgeon. Sometimes you have to just learn yourself what you can do by trial and error. Its a hard way, but I had to do the same

I am 15 weeks out today. I lost 1 pound this week. I almost said "ONLY" before that 1, but I am not going to do that! A loss is a loss. It's ONE pound gone forever! I'm just going to be happy that the scale is moving in the right direction. I started working out this week, so maybe I am building some muscle. I think I was really dehydrated the week before, so this past week I have been drinking a lot more. I also ate some pretty bad stuff this past week, so I am going to make sure to stay on track this week. I weighed in at 278 pounds today! It feels so weird to say that. Last week when I was 279, I wrote 297 in my notebook where I keep a weekly record of my weight. Either I am dyslexic or just not use to that "7" in there. So, here are some NSV: Some I have shared before, but I felt they needed to be re-shared 1. I am up to 10 mins on the elpitical machine (HUGE FOR ME) 2. I went to the cardiologist for a re-check last week. Haven't been there since a few months before surgery. My BP, with no meds since date of surgery, was 122/84, and pulse was 72! Can I get a "WOOT WOOT"..........the doctor shook my hand 3. I could squeeze my butt into size 20 jeans Still tight, but I could zip them I put my size 24's in the dryer and they are still baggy. But I don't have any 22's and don't want to buy any. I went to a store where I know the stuff is cheap, and NO size 22's!! So, I just bought a few 20's. Just bought some sweat pants for $3 to wear until I fit into the 20's. 4. I got a job! Not a RN job, but it's a job for now. I got a nanny job for a family I have known for 8 years. It's just part time, but it gets me out of the house 5. I can walk from my basement (up 3 sets of small steps- quad level house) carrying laundry and still have the energy to fold it and put it away without sitting or resting! 6. While working, I can run up the steps to check on the kids, and not feel like my heart is gonna jump out of my chest I couldn't walk to my mailbox before surgery without the need to lean over the counter when I got inside to be able to breathe. 7. I can shower and get out and not have to sit down and rest. Sometimes, before surgery, I would have to lay in bed naked because I couldn't do anything else. 8. I shoveled the snow from my entire driveway and sidewalks with no break I couldn't even shovel 1 path last year. 9. I fit into a booth at a resturant without moving the table. 10. My periods are freaking NORMAL!!! 11. I met a friend for lunch the other day that I haven't seen since I was 6 weeks post-op and she said "WOW, where did the rest of you go" 12. I can play with my dogs, and run around (somewhat) with them and play hide and seek, which they love. I can take them for walks (which I need to do more of). Okay, now some # victories: 1. I am in the 270's! 2. I am 11 pounds away from being half way to goal!! 3. I am 9 pounds away from losing 100 pounds!! 4. Starting BMI was 53.... today.... 39!!!!! I know I say this a lot, but I am SO glad I have you guys to share all my victories with :D For anyone just starting this journey, trust me, it gets better, and it will all be worth it!!!

For most...lapband is an outpatient procedure. My starting weight is 265. I would be satisfied if I just lost 70 lbs....(very obtainable with the band). I know that within a couple to few years most bariatric units will also do the plication with the lapband...would be interesting to see more long term results with it to see if it has a higher success rate than with just lapband.... this incisionless procedure just sounds like a temporary fad to me.
