I know what you mean. I have told mostly everyone about my band, but kinda in the same theme, I am constantly asked how much weight I've lost. By men and women acquaintances at work. It's gotten to the point that I am embarrassed to say I've lost 110 pounds because it's hard to admit that I was that overweight. So, even if you choose not to tell people about your surgery, be prepared for all of the curiosity that you will be bombarded with. They mean well but...

Once you move from liquids back to real food your weight loss slows down for a couple weeks. Don't worry, it will pick back up again soon!

Terrible Mood....
54Shirley replied to MostlysBird's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will get past this believe me ! It's all part of healing. Even the emotions are very real, and they are all over the place. Soon they will get back into shape (Hormonal, it can be terrible.) once the weight loss kicks in. Don't knock yourself out to hard, in working out. Don't want to Burn Out ! If you are fine with it, then that's great. Once it starts to come off, it will keep coming off, until it stops, and then you start losing inches. So either way ! ! ! You still Loose ! Try to be patient. It will start for you when it's time. -
I am two and a half weeks out of surgery. I started eating this week (3 oz. protein, 2 oz. fruit/veggie- per meal and 3 dairy). I am hitting about 800 calories a day, between 65-80g of protein. For exercise, I am walking about 1-1/2 miles per day. I am consuming about 50-80oz. of liquids. I haven't lost any weight in two weeks, tired all the time. and today the moodiness set in. I can't focus at work and cry at anything emotional. Did any of this happen to you? I feel so lost today....

Very similar story for me. I was banded in 2007 and lost about 140 pounds in a little over a year and half. That was great but i wasn't at goal. I gained about 50 or so back and like someone else said, it was my fault. I was not following the band rules and eating slider foods i knew were wrong. (read that ice cream-aholoic) I went back this year and I am almost back to my lowest. It seems to be coming off slower this time. I also seem to only be losing around 10-15 pounds per fill. I can lose that usually within 2 weeks of the fill then i just plateau for some reason. Trying to get a good exercise routine started but time commitments are playing havoc with my schedule and energy levels have hit rock bottom sometime. Thankfully my Dr's staff is awesome and helping work through the problems. At least the weight is coming back off!

Am I Eating Too Much at 7 Weeks Out?
GreenTealael replied to mc2017's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Sounds like you are making your foods slide. The sauce will have a very different effect on your system when combined with the protein than if you were eating drier protein sources alone. Try reducing the sauce amount or eliminating it completely to test how much dense protein you can eat by itself. Since you have no guide lines of your own I will share what my team provided, take whatever you want from it, toss what you don't need. Eating: Only eat within a 30 min window, 1/8-1/4 cup food (1- 6 months), 1/4-1/2 cup (6 months+) of dense protein first Vegetables: As tolerated Mechanics: Do not drink for 30 mins before it after meals, do not eat prior to 30 mins after drinking No straws No grazing, only defined meal times Water: Bare minimum of 64 oz of liquids primarily water Protein: 60-80 g daily (work up to this goal by 3 months out) Dense protein: 1oz by weight 1-6 months goals 4 oz by weight 6+ months goals Primarily through food, stop supplements as soon as possible Eat a variety of protein sources to prevent aversion Carbs: Vary depending on tolerance, but no rice bread or pasta for the first 6 months- only whole grain variety sparingly there after Sugar: Less than 5g of sugar per serving, avoid anything with more than 5 g added sugars in ingredients list Fats: Limit to health oils from food sources like cheese, nuts, olives, seeds and some oils as needed Vitamins: Daily multi w/ iron, calcium citrate, B vitamins, D vitamin Hope that helps Safe Journey! -
Need to know what week post op did you start ab workouts please

I worked out with heavy weights (for a girl) my entire life prior to surgery. My surgeon said I could go back to normal cardio at 6 weeks, but absolutely no weight training until 12 weeks out b/c the lining of your stomach has not fully healed. Be careful! I hope you're lifting light. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Congrats on your weight loss and welcome to the post-op side!

So why do people ask if you meant to lose weight?
bertey replied to NMJG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think people may be nervous about saying the wrong thing. They don't want to say wow you look great and then find out you lost weight because you have cancer (or some other illness). -
Oh I love your post! It's so true that it shouldn't be a bad thing. We're in the 21st century when we have help from technology for almost everything. Why not as well for the weight loss? Thanks for the positive thoughts :-)

I have definitely experienced the same struggles. After an initial loss of about 60 pounds I found ways to pass more through and I gained some weight, but have now stabilized. I have been the same weight for about three years and I am now looking to also get back on track. Do you go to any supports groups, that is something I plan on looking into. Good luck!

Hi, my name is Chad I am from San Angelo Tx. I am on the pre op diet but will not know the exact date of lap band surgery until Tuesday after labor day. The Doc says that it will be toward the end of Sept. I had my pre op visit 2 days ago all is good and insurance will pay. The doc really wanted me to get the gastric bypass. I am 5'10 and weigh 308. In 2003 I weighed 190 pounds. I did not start gaining all this weight until middle of 2004 after a heart problem and the doc put me on coreg. I am off that coreg stuff now and fat. Anyway I told the Doc that " I did not want to rewire the plumbing that god made, I just want to squeeze it a little bit. He did not think it was funny, but it was my way to tell him I am getting the lap band and not his gastric bypass. Sorry for rambling on good to be here.

I got the impression that the Dr made more money from the RYN. Because he does 2 surgeries at once. He takes out your galbladder at the same time. He said 45 minutes for both surgeries, but RNY better. For who is RNY better? He just said you lose weight more quickly, well for me it not all about the weight. I am a whole person not just a number.

My motivation for proceeding passed away
catwoman7 replied to B.Annie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm very sorry for the loss of your uncle. I had similar thoughts as you - I didn't want to die at 65 (or earlier!) a burden to my family because of my weight. It was time to do something drastic... -
Everyone loses differently. Some people lose a ton of weight in the beginning, and it trails off; some lose less in the beginning, then it picks up; some lose easily and evenly the whole time; some lose slowly the whole time. The important thing to remember is that, if you follow your plan? You WILL lose weight. It doesn't matter what the scale says - scientifically, mathematically, the weight will come off. Your body is still very swollen, it went through quite a bit of trauma, and it will take months before it is fully healed. There are so many things happening inside you right now that are throwing off your weight. My advice? Get off the scale. It will drive you mad in those early days. Stick to your plan, and let your doctor weigh you. Good luck

@@JustWatchMe I've been told stress and anxiety can make it feel like the band is too tight.. So I feel like it's a vicious circle, I'm going to speak with my doc tomorrow and ask him what he recommends and I will make an app to see the psychologist.. I was prepared for the weight loss and the big change in diet but I wasn't expecting these feelings???? Thanks for the support x

I just wanted to ask if anyone had any complications from lifting weights after surgery? I am 7 weeks post op and have lost 40 pounds so far, but I know to keep losing I need to exercise more. I have been doing a few light weights...ab machines...leg press, etc....nothing too heavy along with aerobic activity. I did speak with a nurse at my doctor's office this morning and she stated that everything should be fine; however, I am self pay and certainly cannot afford any complications. I would appreciate any help! Thank you!

"....wasting away"
careya123 replied to southernbelle256's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a friend lose a large amount of weight. When she got under 200 lbs, people started telling her "be careful, you don't want to lose too much weight" on a regular basis. It was usually really tiny people who might have weighed 120 max. So annoying! I think people just get an image of you in their head, and they can't let go of it. If you are smaller than that, then you are 'too small.' Just ignore it. They usually mean well, even if their comments are irritating. -
A little off topic... Arnold Chiari Malformation
MyZentrails replied to MyZentrails's topic in The Lounge
Hi Lexie, For my weight loss surgery I'm having the lap band. As far as Chiari goes, I've been unable to work or drive for three years, I'm in a wheelchair when I leave the house because I'm unable to stand up for more than a minute or two without fainting, and I have the classic Chiari headaches daily (along with a huuuuge list of other symptoms). I've sent my medical records to neurosurgeons across the country but I've been rejected by all of them because of my weight. The funny thing is, I don't have any other comorbidities like diabetes, high blood pressure, or any of that - other than the Chiari and being overweight, I'm healthy. I'm 375 lbs as of my 6 week pre-op appointment. Have lost a bit in the couple of weeks I've been on the pre-op diet though! I think what I'm worried about is going through the weight loss surgery while still having my Chiari malformation. I can't lie flat - the pressure builds in my head until I have an excruciating headache. I know I'll be out for the surgery but can I ask them to prop me up before they bring me out of anasthesia to reduce the pain before I wake up? Stuff like that. Just wondering if anyone else has had to bring this up with their surgeon... Thanks for your response! Katrina -

You are really early out. It takes time to get the hang of it. The weight loss for me has been sporadic, which can be very frustrating. Do a search for 3-week stall on this site and you will find tons of people that are experiencing what you are. We all lose weight differently and at a different speed. I am a little bit of a slow loser, but I am losing and you will too. Back up to the basics and follow your nutritionist's plan. You will see results.
