I also hard no bowel movements after surgery. I actually didn't go until 2 weeks after. I took MiraLAX to help with that. I wasn't uncomfortable from not going but thought it was weird not to go for that long.

My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday and I am excited & nervous at the same time. I assume this is normal but it's getting to me, the nerves that is. I have been on liquids for 3 days and it has been much easier than I thought it would be. The protein shakes were way too thick so I switched to "Isopure" it is like drinking kool aid and has no sugar The rest of the day I drink water and have soup for dinner. After surgery my nutritionist expects me to drink 2 ounces of protein every hour on the hour and two ounces every 1/2 hour with water in between. She says if you do this, you will stay full & hydrated. She explained that the hydration is extremely important for your skin. Anyone have any tips for me???

Grateful for the little things
TracieCat replied to Dave_NW's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, it has been so many little things all adding together already to make me not regret my decision for even a single second. My life has been changing in so many ways. I just had new bloodwork done about two weeks ago and for the first time in many many years, almost all of my numbers are within normal range. Even my cholesterol is down to 166. Holy cow, i havent seen anything below about 200 since I was in my 20's. I have been feeling good enough to start doing more activities around the house. I am finally doing all of the cooking again, helping with the routine house cleaning. Going out shopping with my Mom where I am doing the driving. Able to move around more to spend time with my wonderful husband and loving family, chasing after my beloved nieces. I am still in a great deal of pain because of the severity of my hip issue but it has reduced a good bit since my weight loss and that is truly something to be thankful for. And my little lifts also come from people who have not seen me in awhile and they exclaim how good I am looking. All of hubbys co workers who he keeps updated with my weight loss, some family and every time any of my Doctors see me at visits. It never fails to put me in a great mood when I see any of them and does wonders for my ego. lol, -
I'm new to the forum and thought I'd say hello to anyone reading. After two years and 3 attempts I was finally banded last Friday by Dr.Tashjian in Beverly Hills. I'm struggling on the liquid diet but making it through.

I'm 3 weeks and one day out from surgery. I've lost 30 pounds. I didn't realize 30pounds would make a difference until my daughter took my picture today. I love this sleeve!

I went to my first required seminar on March 14th. My first appointment with the doctor was on March 23rd. I had my required psych appointment on April 3rd and had an EGD for April 20th and found out that I had a hiatal hernia. I was approved by my insurance on April 23rd. I'm very surprised how quickly my insurance approved the surgery. It is something that I've needed for quite sometime. I have type 2 diabetes, high BP, and found out in February that I had sleep Apnea. When they told me a few weeks after starting on my CPAP that I needed to add oxygen at night to the CPAP, I really freaked out and that pushed me over the edge to get this surgery process started. The thought of being 37 years old and being on oxygen wasn't my idea of an ideal situation. I go on Wednesday May 6th to see the nutritionist for my 4 week pre-op diet. I'm not looking forward to it but I know that since my BMI is over 50 they it is needed to shrink my liver. I hope and pray that it will be a quick and easy 4 weeks but I wouldn't be as big as I am if things were easy. Things have gone so fast and everything has seemed to be green-lighted up through now, that I can't afford to screw up this final piece of the journey before the surgery journey begins! Everyone that I have told has been really excited for me. My boss actually hugged me and seems really happy! I just hope this continues and I have great results. I've read the forums here and on other sites and know that I will have to make serious changes. I'll have to eat my Protein first, sip sip sip that Water, exercise, and know there will be stalls along the way. Time is going to move anyway, so I might as well be ready for all the ups and downs anyway! Any feedback you can give about pre-op diets, post-op diets, recipes, etc are always helpful! Thanks in advance for your advice!

As of tomorrow 5/21 I will be 3 weeks post op Gastric Bypass. I am already down 25 lbs and doing good.

I eat an egg every day for breakfast, sometimes with bacon, sometimes with steak, less often with ham or sausage. Or I will eat a 1/3 cup of omelet with a dribble of cheese, and onion, pepper, mushrooms, avocado, and a bite of fresh tomato. It may have a few calories, but I eat it in the morning and have the rest of the day to adjust my food choices. Haven't tried oatmeal since I have a strong issue of stalling when my carbs go over 20 per day.

Forgot to mention there are some weeks I don't loose anything and some weeks where I loose a lot making sure you get in all fluids is a big deal though so even if you have to eat a whole box of sugar free Popsicles so be it just make sure your getting your fluid intake because not getting enough fluid will make your body retain water and make you have water weight on!

Hi everyone! My name is Paula and I had my surgery on the 26th of Sept. It was my very first surgery and I was SUPER nervous. However, it went verry quickly and all over, I am healing very fast. From the two week pre -op liquid diet and post liquid diet, (I am sick of soup/broth), I have lost 16 pounds! I don't know if thats normal but Im not complaining! I haven't had any problems except I had to find out the hard way not to drink carbonated beverages. I'm so excited to start this journey and am even more happy that theres an online support group like this!

I started protein shakes yesterday, and that did help some, but after having a cup of broth which takes 30 min or longer to finish, less than an hour later my stomach growls!! I am so afraid of getting something stuck also. I use yoplait vanilla yogurt and I have frozen fruit and bananas that I put in the blender so there are no chunks it's all smooth. I put some ice in the blender too so it's liquid, just a little more filling. Sounds like your diet is more restrictive than mine, but at this point my band is wide open. I don't get a fill until 6 weeks post op. In the hosp I had a thicker broth than I have here and also italian ice. My yogurt kind of reminds me of the italian ice, it's just not frozen. I will definitely keep in touch and keep me posted on your progress as well.

Well its been 4 months since surgery and I am 40 pounds down and 3 sizes smaller Doctor is happy with my progress and says I should reach my goal by 9 months with no problem.....I would like it to go faster but He said slow and steady wins the race......I am happy the scale is moving in the right direction for as change (with the PCOS, there is hope ). I am still having a problem fitting in all my protien and calories....I average 55g protien (needs to be 60-70g) and about 900 cal. (needs to be 1200) any suggestions? I do have some hair loss but they say that should slow down around 6 months or so.....it just started last month..... So if anyone has any suggestions please feel free to respond!

WOW 2 Miles! Walking is encouraged and needed but man, don't push it! You have wounds inside that needs to close! You will LOVE how you feel in the coming weeks! There are times when you feel a little disappointed that you can't have something, but the weight loss and the all day energy, without crashes is worth it. What was hard for me was about 2 weeks out when I felt great and its easy to forget you had the surgery and you want to eat the things you had been... but intellectually, you know you can't. I'm 48 days and learning a whole new way of eating and its a lot better food than I thought! Take it easy!

34fr or 60fr - im not sure which i have
VSG AJH replied to Stacy_wls's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm like @Jenny12 -- I'm 2 weeks post-op, and I can take water in super fast. I feel like I have no restriction when it comes to liquids, and it's been that way from the hospital (with warm beverages/broth, anyway). When I called in a bit concerned, nurse said it's not abnormal to fell little to no restriction with fluid, but expect a difference with dense protein. I do feel more restriction with something like pudding than something fluid-y. We'll see what the future looks like. My doc used a 38f bought on me. -
5 Days Out Of Surgery
aliandrews replied to missivory1980's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My first 2 weeks was clear liquids only, then full liquids. After that soft foods, then solid. Did you surgeon or Nut give you a plan of what you should do? Peanut butter and crackers seems a little much to me. -

Hi! On December 30th I had an IVC filter put in because I already had a blood clot and have factor v (clotting disorder). That night I was in terrible pain. Turns out that when the nurse was putting pressure on my groin to close the vein it pinched a nerve. So the week before surgery was painful. I had gastric bypass January 3rd (of course we got snow and it was declared state of emergency so the ride to the hospital was fun). Surgery went very well. Was up and doing laps around the nurses station. They even laughed saying how fast I was going! One week post op I had my first f/u. I was down 20lbs! The surgeon removed the drain and all looked good. The next night I was in terrible pain on the drain site. I went to the ER and I had an infection in the drain site and was very dehydrated. They put me on antibiotics and fluids and admitted me for 2 days. All is better now. The pinched nerve is healed, the infection is gone. I am 3 weeks 2 days post op and down a total of 44 lbs! The surgery was definitely not easy. I was very sore up until recently and get very tired very fast, but I would do it all again! I can't wait until I'm fully back to normal. The only problem now is getting all of my fluids in and figuring out what I can eat...a lot of things I'm trying are not going down so easy.

3 mths since surgery, lost 34 lbs. I feel wonderful! Lost a lot of weight first month. Second month did not lose any weight! Always hungry and sometimes cheated. :cursing: After second fill 3 wks ago, I lost 8 lbs. Food gets stuck a lot though. Sometimes I can eat fine, other times impossible. Proteins shakes get me through tough times. Very happy!
