    People With Low BMI

I just created the group. It's called Low BMIers. It's under the category of Weight Loss. Sorry to jump the gun, tooth fairy!
  2. Ok embrace the stall, done It. Been reassuring myself daily for the last, ohhhhh I dunno, 3 weeks? I went on a work trip the 25-28 of last month and gained 2 lbs. I don't know how, I ate right and didn't drink with even though everyone else did. But the worst part is that I haven't lost a single pound since!!! I am only 2.5 months post op! This should be my honeymoon period right? Someone tell me their story or similar experience. I need to hear some good news so I can have some reassurance that I'm not stuck at this weight forever. I know it's ridiculous to think that like but I'm sure everyone has had their discouraging and depressed days throughout this journey and just needed a little reassurance. P.s when I left for my trip I was 3 lbs from ONEderland. So I fully expected to be under 200 when I came home. I about cried when my scale said 205. I DID cry this morning when my scale, once again said 205. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. it happens to everyone - it's just Water weight from the IV. Wait a week or so after surgery before weighing yourself - it'll be gone by then
  4. Has anyone tried green coffee extract to boost loss for slow losers? I saw this article http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20064576 There does appear to be some success in studies with chlorogenic acid, found in green coffee, with weight loss. My resting BMR is only 1345 calories per my nut, the result of years of yoyo dieting. I would really like to to lose more than a pound or two a week. I do walk for exercise but with bad knees, arthritis, etc. it's not easy to burn more than a few hundred extra calories a day. I'm also off caffeine since presurgery.

    MGB Information

I had lapband to MGB revision in late 2014. It is the best thing you can do, much better than the classic bypass. I am at my ideal weight and lost 112lbs in 16 months.

Is it loose skin or fat?

The only real way is to have a body fat scan. My first go round at loosing weight with diet and exercise I lost 140 lbs and rushed into skin removal. I had a TON, it hung so low. If I laid it flat it was almost 11 inches! Long story short, it was only 7 lbs when it was removed..bummer.
  7. A large part of this surgery is learning a new lifestyle in order to lose weight and live healthier. How are you going to learn to eat properly if you don't start adding new things to your diet? Just slowly start introducing your approved foods to get your stomach used to them. And I've got news for you...your weight loss WILL stall and it WILL slow down at some point, whether you're drinking shakes or eating real food. It's just part of the process. The idea is to not "diet", but learning to live your life with your new lifestyle. A person can't just drink shakes the rest of their lives!

    Weight Gain Creeping Up

What the heck? I know about the weight struggle. I deal with it on a daily bases. Is there anything I said that was incorrect? Is not protein, fluids, vitamins and exercise something we all need for success? All these things are a life time commitment.
  9. My surgery is this coming Monday, November 19. I am not nervous yet. Right now I am just mourning food. I know I will miss it so much. I went for my final preop appointment yesterday and my surgery was nearly cancelled because I had gained weight. I have an autoimmune disease (AS) and am in an active flare for which I have been taking high dose prednisone (50 mg taper) since August. Prednisone always packs the pounds on me. Anyway, I had lost the 5 pounds I needed to get the surgery scheduled but since scheduling, I had gained 10 lbs. The surgeon understood my circumstance and agreed to do the surgery still but the NP at his office made me feel totally horrible! I am eating as clean as possible until my surgery to hopefully lose a few pounds. I am now off prednisone so hopefully that will kick start some loss before Monday.
  10. Hi! My name is Loree Drawbaugh and I had my sleeves bypass surgery on April 24, 2014, a year ago! I have lost total 70 pounds plus. After three months, I found out that I got pregnant and was pretty nervous because my husband and I did try before I went on for surgery and it's a surprised! I went through the whole process and did not GAIN any pounds until I gave birth on March 20 ,2015 to a beautiful daughter Sophie Ann as we have two boys - AJ 6 years old and Jakie 4 years old. So, now I'm working on getting back on the track to lose more weight but for some reasons, I'm stuck and starting to go into old habits. Right before weight loss surgery, I was supposed to have surgery on April 22nd however I started to have high blood pressure so I never had them before (It runs in the family) so I started taking meds and it did help to control them after the surgery and during pregnant but after birth, my high blood pressure has return so I am seeing doctor to figure out why it is so high and I'm looking into food I eat, I admit as I am not drinking enough Water or Protein food (seems I'm not always hungry but choose poor food as I am looking after three children so anyway I was at 287 down to 257 and now I'm at 209 pounds and feel stuck as I want really want to hit 100 pounds off - my goals is to weigh at 145, one day if I ever can! I'd like to ask people to share their experieneces if they get stuck and finally lose more weight, I'm nervous what If I start to gain and would not look at the scale until my next appt to meet with doctor for WLS...I have met with nutrionist - she is concerned about my high blood pressure as I'm seeing the doctor at least twice a month to see how I am doing and adjust on meds pretty frustarted as I'm turning 41 and want to have my life to be happy. I do feel energy but why do I pick poor food planning? Right now, my daughter is 9 weeks old and starting to sleep through the night (sometimes I feel I need to sleep more to get enough energy and drinks at least 2-3 cups coffee a day and remind myself to drink more water and eat less. I have tried protien shakes, they give me stomache so I stopped doing that perhaps I should go back and use it once a day and eat just protein but sometimes I crave into carb, I'd love to see people who can post what food do you eat....sometimes we do go out to eat and I cannot eat whole meals so I split in half with my hubby and save some left over to bring home if they are good. Enough of my story life...I am excited to find this group to learn more about you guys and see how it goes.

    People With Low BMI

I have a low BMI and I really want to have this surgery in February. The problem is that my husband is very much against it. He says I can lose weight without surgery. I told him he was right! I can lose weight but I can't keep it off! I have lost the same 50 pounds over and over again. I am so tired of losing weight and gaining weight and feeling ashamed for gaining it back.

    People With Low BMI

I can't seem to join the low Bmi support group :/ I am 5'6", currently 240, 38.7 BMI I called my PCP office and figured out I was 245 5 years ago. , so 39.5. My weight has been usually in the 230s during that span. I currently have high blood pressure and that began with my sons pregnancy 4 years ago. So I am not sure if my insurance will cover WLS for me.

    Birth Control

I am on Nuva ring. I was on it a while prior to my sleeve. It wasn't the cause of weight gain. It is "knock on wood" not causing weight gain post sleeve.
  15. BigTink2LilTink

    I was sleeved on may 2 2017

The drugs to help with the trauma to your body as well as you being swollen will make you be more weight immediately after surgery. In fact I wouldn't start worrying about looking at a scale and tracking weight loss until you are a good 6 to 8 weeks post surgery. That is when you will really start to see it kick into high gear.
  16. I started going back to the gym 2 weeks after surgery which was last weekend. Been to the gym 4 times since, so far so good. Doing 30 min of cardio and 20-30 of weights. Feeling very good so far.
  17. My neighbor behind me, his son in law had Bypass about 6 months ago. He told me about it as he has seen weight loss with me, thinking I had the same thing "NO THANK YOU !" His attitude is why would you put any thing in you, that's just going to cause you problems an choke? I told him why would you have them cut out 20+ feet of your intestines, cut your stomach up, and re route your insides. Only to have to suffer from Dumping Syndrome, and if you stretch yourself, you can gain the weight all over again.... He just walked away ! ! ! I didn't tell him that everyone that I ever knew that had Bypass are in the Ground. So if he wants to watch my progress,,, I guess I can watch his, as time goes by. I hope he makes it. He would be the first. I don't like those kinda odds..
  18. Most sites and the medical PDR will say it causes weight gain. I don’t know when they changed it to weight loss. I worked in the medical field over 20 years too and never seen anyone lose weight on it. I know I sure didn’t either when I took it.
  19. I looked up intussusception for general knowledge's sake. Here is the published list of causes. Adults In adults, intussusception is usually the result of a medical condition or procedure, including: A polyp or tumor Scar-like tissue in the intestine (adhesions) Weight-loss surgery (gastric bypass) or other surgery on the intestinal tract Inflammation due to diseases such as Crohn’s disease A bypass could be expected to have this complication from the change to the intestines. You had the sleeve, which shouldn't pose much risk, but because you also had the band (which loves to create scar tissue), followed by more surgery.. adhesions from excess scar tissue is definitely a real possibility. I'm so sorry to hear you are having to live with this. Have your doctors indicated a special diet may help?

Is it loose skin or fat?

@SpartanMaker is correct. There will always be a layer of fat under your skin. It’s something we need. So even under the loose skin there will be some fat which is why it is hard to tell. How thick (dense) the skin is if you pinch it may give you a bit of an idea of how much fat is left in that area. And pinch different areas around your body to compare as we carry our larger deposits of fat in different areas of our body. Have a chat with your surgeon or get a referral to a plastic surgeon & ask their opinion. If you are thinking about having the loose skin removed, they’ll likely advise to wait until your weight has been stable for a while. If you are just curious as to how much fat you have left, yes a body fat or dexa scan is your best bet.

  23. I am making this poll, because it's something I struggle with. Let me know how many calories you eat, and it may guide me! I have heard of people stating they eat anywhere from 600-1500 calories and lost weight, so I am thinking of doing 1200... what about you?
  24. It is been 4 days without any loss and actually 1 pound gained. I am eating properly, increased my protein, drink a lot... I know it is the infamous 3rd week stall but it is still disapointing and frustrating. How do I get to break this stall faster?
  25. Hi Everyone: I just saw my surgeon today regarding a revision from the band to the sleeve. I've had no issues with my band whatsoever, except that my weight loss has been extremely slow, only 28 lbs in one year! Not that I want those pounds back, but I expected better results after undergoing WLS! I've stuck to a diet, exercised and have been weighed by a nutritionist once every two-three weeks for a year! Interestingly, my surgeon did not hesitate for a second, and immediately brought me the consent forms for the revision! He also immediately arranged my endoscopy on the spot! I'll see him again once that is completed, and then on to the next step. So, yes, I would definitely use the same surgeon, he understands the issues involved and wants to see his patients succeed. I'm glad he was so helpful. Cheers... Mary
