I am having my revision surgery on Tuesday June 16 a little nervous .I start my pre op diet to shrink my liver on Tuesday. I am going low carb starting today. Any suggestions

I just had a apt yesterday with my surgeon and he wants me to have the revision. My lap band been giving me reflux really bad. So I might do it

I had the lap band in 2009. I weighed 230 lbs & from pre op to lowest weight I may have lost about 40 lbs but it seemed to be from pre & post op diet & life style changes & not the band. Like many people diets & disipline don't always last which is why I needed the additional tool of the lap band. They have never been able to get me in the green zone its either to full or not enough. Eventually it became harDer to maintain the discipline when I could eat whatever I wanted with no restriction. After 3 years of trying adjustments I gave up on them. I always wondered if it was because a PA was doing them instead of the Dr. SO here I am considering lap band to sleeve revision. Any advice, success stories, trouble getting insurance to approve? Did you have to go through all the same processes? Luckily I'm with a new company & have new insurance with United healthcare. P.S I'm now back to 228 lbs. Thanks for reading. Julie

Still Deciding: Need Opinions!
slvarltx replied to Amber Johnson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Something, though, scares me about the surgery. I'm not sure if it's the surgery itself or the thought of not eating my favorite foods after. I know it's worth it and everything and that complications are a minimal risk but what if my sutures leak? Or the biggest fear, I end up stretching my stomach out??? The surgery itself is about as safe as anything out there. If your sutures leak, they can do a revision and you will be fine. My surgeon has thousands of these surgeries and never had a leak. You can still have your favorite foods in moderation. If you follow the diet, you won't stretch out your sleeve. Why would you wait? You can have everything on your wish list, most likely within a year. If you start next year, than you have pushed it off for another year. Nobody ever went back to their surgeon and told them they wished their sleeve was bigger! -

Hope you get the relief from reglux that you need and heal quickly. My revision to MGB is on Wednesday in Belgium. Will be glad to see the back of GERD. -
Band to sleeve in one surgery. Who's had it done that way? How long had you had your band? What was your recovery like? Any complications? Regrets?

I am scheduled to have revision from band to sleeve July 1 and have been having so many emotions as well!! Hope it goes well- please post update next week. -
Hi Kellarsmom, I had my band to sleeve revision with a hiatal hernia repair by Dr. Clayton Frenzel on 5/18. The surgery was very successful and I've lost 26 pounds thus far. Dr. Frenzel and his staff are great and very supportive. They're always there to answer any concerns or questions. Feel free to reach out with any questions...you'll do great!! Good luck and see you on the losers bench ????

I dont know what to do!
SleeveandRNYchica replied to ThinnerTiff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember you from the forums, I had my surgery 10/1/12. I lost about 53lbs pre and post op. My weight loss was SUPER slow!!! I got pregnant a year post surgery and gained 40lbs. After the baby, I started experiencing horrible GERD. I also was not losing weight at all. Slider foods like crackers much easier(not good I know) but something didn't seem right. So I consulted a new bariatric dr. as my first surgery was in S. America. He told me he has seen stretched sleeve post-pregnancy. Now mind you I was very diligent when pregnant. So he sent me for a barium swallow. It was discovered I did have GERD and a hiatal hernia. I went for an endoscopy last week. My sleeve is angulated (twisted) and has a bit if a pouch so food does not exit the way it should backs up in sleeve which can cause stretching and GERD. I am in the process of a revision. Get checked. I do not believe there is enough data about pregnancy and the sleeve IMO. I think there is still a lot they do not know. -
Approved! Band to bypass revision
Christina4 replied to Dibaby44's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I see that your surgery date is getting close. I hope you're excited. I had the revision from band to RNY done back in October. BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE! I have already lost close to 50 pounds, and that's with me doing a move from GA to AK and having to eat on the road for three months. You are going to be amazed at how much easier it is to have the RNY than the band. I wish you the best of luck!!! -
What's the main difference between the Sleeve and Bypass?
CowgirlJane replied to courtcourt90's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I lost 160 with sleeve - I have gained a few back but am within 5# of my goal. Surgeon I initially consulted with poo-poo'd the sleeve due to my high BMI and history of failure with lapband. I went to another surgeon who warned me that revisions didn't always do as well, but he felt sleeve was still a good choice for me. No regrets, but I do think you should have an open mind about other procedures if you have ALOT of weight to lose. You are pretty tall - what is your goal weight? -
Am I the only one who regrets their Sleeve?
CowgirlJane replied to banksdea's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ok. I have had the band and then later the sleeve...you made the right choice. You have a brand new baby tummy! Like a Newborn it needs alot of TLC but it will mature and become much easier. I am 3.5 years post band to sleeve revision. I can eat enough at a sitting I just look like a petite eater. I am healthy, I am normal size, like my looks and like single digit clothing sizes. Give this time. What you experience now is temporary and take advantage of it to lose weight because a year from now you will regret not taking full advantage if you don't. -

Yes, I'm having a revision with Dr. A and can't wait for August to arrive. -
I had lap band surgery 4.5 years ago. I'm hoping to revise to the sleeve. But in the past I was always hot. Probably since I've lost weight, I won't even think about wearing shorts unless it's more than 75 out. I am cold a lot. I still am hot in the summer, but I'm definitely colder than I used to be

Hey, I'm having my revision RNY on June 19th too! We'll have to keep in touch! I start my pre-op diet on Tuesday and am already dreading it. I guess I just have to keep the end goal in mind. -

had my band at age 66, medicare and BC/BS paid 100%. I have had fills for the past 2 years and follow up appts as needed. no out of pocket. I haven't had any complications with my band but hopefully if I do I can have a revision or another surgery . I doubt I would get 80% of my stomach removed but depends on my state of health and mind at the time. I am enjoying a new lifestyle of mobility and good health. I am diabetes free, normal blood pressure and normal cholesterol levels in many years. -
Sleeve to bypass revision
rhw94123 replied to mistysj's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Sounds like you are doing well! The couple of cases of revising from sleeve to bypass that I have been aware of were inspire by lack of weight loss (or troubling re-gain), so your journey will be interesting to watch since you're not trying to lose a great deal. Truly hope this is the beginning of a great new era for you – you have sure been through a lot! -
Surgery date set for may 26th!

Hi, I hope everything went well for you. I haven't revised from the band to sleeve yet. However, I have found that if you type in 'African American' you will find some posts regarding hair loss issues for African Americans. -
Band removed a year ago. Sleeve on Saturday
ladivaluz806 replied to missfranmurray's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had lap-band revision as well a month ago on April 30th. I had my LB for 10 years and any issues I had during surgery were as a result of my LB. I am so happy that it is gone, and I can actually live my life with out gagging all the time. Good luck to you! You will do amazing. -
My two cents are research, research, research. I was banded in 2010 and I would frequent all the lap band boards, I would see all the success and before and afters, and I wanted that. I wanted that so bad... What I didn't research was the complications and fail rates of the band. I did everything I was supposed to... 6 week fills, no carbonated drinks, low sugar, low carb, and it still just didn't work. After over 2 full years of vomiting, damaged esophagus, and band slippage, and extra surgeries...not to mention only a 30lb loss, I gave up. I got a complete unfill and started researching revisions. Please do the research! Most surgeons won't perform the lap band because of the fail rates and revision amounts. But best of luck to you and whatever you think is best!

Are you having a revision? I'm scheduled for revision on Sept. 7 with Dr. A. Looking forward to following your progress. -
Welcome! I'm new too. I'm in the process of a revision from a lapband. - It helps if you get someone to cup their hand and pay u on the left shoulder blade and right under the shoulder.

Hi there, just checking to see if you had your revision with medicare.? My mom is having a lot of issues with her band and i don't know if she should look into another doctor, cause her current wls doc says medicate will only cover one wls surgery per lifetime. I'm worried about her.
