  1. I hate to break this to you, but that's the post-op diet too. It's even more restrictive immediately postop and for many months after that. Protein, veggies, yogurt. That's about what I eat.
  2. Thank you for all the ideas everyone! I just ordered PB2 and chocolate pb2 so I was thinking to try that with plain yogurt. Another idea a friend from work gave me was buying plain greek yogurt and adding a squirting of the crystal light flavor concentrates (the ones that you add to water). Just figured I'd share, but I haven't given it a shot yet
  3. Try mixing plain FAGE with the Starbuck Via instant pouches. They are strong so I use anywhere from a third to a quarter packet to every 4 ounces of yogurt.
  4. Howdy folks. I hope you are all doing well. I will officially join your ranks in a few months when I have my bypass. Until then I'm trying to get ready as much as I can. I didn't want to intrude into anyone's thread so I figured I'd ask here and hope people joined in. I've been warned not to stock up too much on powders, bars and such as things may taste different later. I'll just have a variety of stuff here but not big quantities of anything. Some Chike Protein, Oikos Triple Greek Yogurt and Quest bars for starters. We always have chicken breast and tuna on hand. Anything else that you recommend having around those first several weeks? I'm concerned about comments concerning difficulty drinking the required amounts of Water. I've always just gulped down what I needed.....when convenient. I suppose now I need to get used to having a water bottle close by all day long for sipping. Kinda freaked about this because I enjoy drinking water and maintaining that good well-hydrated feeling. I'm planning on taking two weeks off work for the surgery. Interested to hear what your experience was on time off and how you did going back. I can minimize or maximize the amount of walking I do on the job. I already keep packs of tuna, powder & shaker bottles, sugar-free drink mix and quest bars in my desk. I only have a couple meeting-lunches at work each month. I'll deal with those as they arise. No control over the menu. I can always just say I've already eaten and sit there sipping my water. Clothes? Did you already have clothes ready for the shrinking new you? I have some smaller sized stuff that will most likely see me through until surgery, but then it's going to be hard to gauge what to do. What has your level of exercise been post-op compared to the months before? What's been the biggest surprise to you after having the surgery? What do you wish you'd done differently in the months leading up to it? I've got a ton of random questions. Hope you don't mind chiming in. Thank you !!!
  5. I love Yoplait 100 Calorie Greek Yogurt. The banana Caramel flavor is omg! 12g Protein, 100 calories, 12 carbs. I also eat Activia Light. As my surgeon wants me to do at least one a day, for the Probiotics. 4g protein, 60 calories, 8 carbs. I like Oikos brand, I'm going to have to try that! .

That is awesome! I started mine two days ago. This makes day 3. I have been drinking 2 Lean GNC premixed Protein drinks. The flavors I have now are Mint chocolate layer birthday cake and Banana cream. They are pretty good. I have also been drinking chicken broth and Water flavored with Mio. I am also allowed 2 Snacks. These range from sugar free Chocolate pudding, Greek light and fit yogurt and sugar free Jello. For dinner I am allowed a bowl of any non-cream based soup. I am in Texas (DFW area). I am so ready. I met with Dietician today, had my cardiac stress test, Echocardiogram and took my pre-op class. Now just have to buy a few things for after surgery. Are you feeling super hungry on liquids? Those drinks sound good. I have been using nectar Syntrax the Caribbean cooler and fuzzy navel are good mixed with almond milk. And the premier premixed chocolate is pretty good too. How was the stress test did you have to run on a treadmill? Not sure how far id make it....

  8. ProudGrammy, Thanks so much! It feels great to have all of the extra weight off. At this time last year, I couldn't even sit comfortably because I was so obese. Sometimes, I have to think back to all those things that were so difficult to do last year so that I can stay grateful for what the surgery has done for me. I love the lime flavor Light and Fit Greek yogurt. In fact, I have five of the small containers in my fridge now.
  9. @@scarletwitch19 never, ever liked any type of yogurt (yeach) i tried the 2 below types of yogurt PO lots of Protein now, i usually eat one yogurt a day Fage is my favorite Light&Fit is great i'm addicted to the greek key lime yum yum @@WL WARRIOR 145 lb down !!! GOAL you are doing terrific keep up the good job i buy the small individual container of the Fage 0% greek plain it's more expensive, but it lasts a long time i always stock up i bought it a few days ago and it expires August 14th the larger container i can understand why it expires so quickly once you open, it looses it freshness you need to eat it quicker than individual ones since the lid has been removed you are no dummy, so i'm sure you figured the above out already Fage plain greek 0% Light & Fit Greek Yogurt size size 6 oz ? (looks like same size as Fage, but doesn't state) protein protein 18 gr 12 gr calories calories 100 6 oz 80 carbs carbs 7 9 it is more expensive buying individually, but i'm worth it so are you i mix "8" fresh blueberries, and one sweet and low can't get much better than that kathy
  10. I never considered adding Protein powder to the Fage Greek Yogurt. That would be delicious with some good tasting Protein Powder. I'm going to order the Syntrax Matrix Peanut Butter Cookie flavor. If I mixed it with the Fage Greek Yogurt it would be like a dessert with tons of protein. My only issue with yogurt is that I have to be cautious about eating it too frequently. It can be a slider, so I have to eat it slowly and sparingly. It's so easy for me to eat a lot at one time if I'm not paying attention. That is why I dislike that it only stays good for about a week after you open it.

    June 30th Sleevers?

@bnm4. I only can tolerate 1/2 scoop or it affects the flavor and texture. I really like adding it to tomato basil soup. Kind of makes it feel like I'm eating spaghetti sauce rather than just soup. But I add it to yogurt and cottage cheese as well. I try to keep each meal under 25 grams of protein because I hear you don't absorb any more than that at one time.
  12. I only buy FAGE 0% Greek yogurt. I eat it pretty much daily. In fact, I buy it by the case from Whole Foods. (6 pts @ $6.99ea - 10% case discount). I add it to my Protein shakes in the morning, use it instead of sour cream and even as a mayo replacement. I like that the only ingredients are milk and yogurt cultures. Nutrition breakdown is Calories 130, Fat 0, Carbs 9gm, Protein 23gm, Sugar 9gm per cup. As for add ins, I use pretty much anything on hand; fresh fruit, almond butter, a drizzle of raw honey, and on the rare occasion I buy flavored Protein powder, I'll add a scoop of that and mix with the yogurt and then sit in the fridge for a bit to chill to the consistency of pudding.
  13. The best yogurt I have found is FAGE 0%. I don't have a container of it right now, but I think one cup contains 23 grams of Protein, 12 carbs, and 120 calories. Please correct me if I am wrong. The downside to this stuff is that it is quite expensive and only stays good for a week after you open it.
  14. I waited for this surgery now for nearly 2 years and this was after dedicating a year plus to getting qualified 5 years earlier only to be denied due to the immense amount of "hoops". Now I've gotten to the finish line so to say and I've got more emotions creeping up as the day nears and the classes and appointments add in details. Well I've never seen so many different methods to one procedure in my life. Can eat this, can't eat that. This portion that portion. Protein supplements, no protein supplements. Sex after 6 weeks, sex after a week or two, sex when you can tolerate it. Straws vs. no straws. I mean you look online and there's a different approach to the "post operative" eating for as many places that conduct the surgery. How is this helpful? Protein first? Love this idea since I love meat, fish, and chicken. But 60-70 grams of protein isn't coming from 12 - 16 ounces of meats, eggs, fish, yogurt, etc in a day but I'm told by my facility that protein supplements are a no go (but their dietician says 4oz is ok as a meal replacement) - so not sure why I read other facilities encourage 8oz of protein drinks 30 minutes after meals and mine is conflicted between nurse and dietician on use of it at all. A month ago I was 350 pounds, I'm down to 323 by increasing activities, lowering portions, and eliminating most carbs during the pre operative diet. It's not been easy but I feel it's best to listen and do as I'm told by the facility that's doing the surgery. I'm just so tossed on when to "not listen". I enjoy protein shakes and during Syntrax Nectar zero carb ones that give me 56 grams of protein to 16oz of water. I'd say that's a massive PLUS as I've already got to consume 64oz of clear fluids so wouldn't this be a positive for any one of these surgeries? And when it comes to straws vs. cups for drinking due to "air" give me a break. I have tested this theory for months now and unless your gulping the air (like some kids do to force burping) then neither approach adds more or less air to the belly. Now true I'm no scientist or surgeon but it's the same feeling either way i drink. So why the straw requirement? What proof do they have that more air comes into the stomach with a straw vs. without? Yes I'm a "proof" guy. I need to see it to believe it or at the very least be shown an example or two that makes sense. Sex. Well I'm a guy, so I honestly can't see how ANYTHING besides incision pain could affect sex. I mean I'm not talking rough, throw around, animalistic, multiple partner, drunk, 50 shades of grey, sex.....I'm talking married with children, we have finally got the kids to bed, I had a long day sex. So why the blanket 6 weeks answer I was given? Why the range of when your feeling up to it all the way to 8 weeks post operative? And the drainage tube. Well I'm NO GOOD with blood. And in the teaching class I went to it was explained that some people go home with this and need to empty it. Screw that, doesn't insurance cover home care nurses to come empty that stuff and check for issues? When does buying a new car require me to physically change the oil and transmission fluid? Man when I'm nervous or anxious I ramble and when I'm scared I tend to analyze, so about now I'm going into a a combination of asking, talking, and answering all in the same sentences when I'm around people. I'm used to laughing off pain and hiding behind joking and kidding around when I am uncomfortable. I've never really been me. I never felt like "me" was what people would like to be around. I feel trapped in my own body. I always have. I have always rather stay away from people then to work so hard to hide how uncomfortable I was around them. I was always great at that though, no one has ever realized how fake I was. But the real me, the true me, the big guy who still remembers being an 8 year old in Sears with his mom being told i needed the "husky" pants well that person has been hidden pretty well. Gosh can't believe I wrote that. Can't believe I'm scared to have this surgery, but scared to fall asleep and forget to have a CpAp mask on too. Scared I'll forget I took my insulin and take too much. Scared now that I'll eat too much and give myself a heart attack,my it scared after surgery I'll eat too much and vomit or have dumping. I've weighed the risks out, I really have and I KNOW this surgery is my last hope and my best option. Being analytical intend to really look at every choice and resulting tree from those choices. I've heard some people in my lifetime state how racism is the worst thing in the world because it demoralizes and is easily passed on thru generations from a racist parent to their child. Well while I agree that racism is horrible, i believe obesity is even easier to pass down to our children. I am a fat, over eating dad who watches TV and plays video games most of the time because it's easy to do and my weight has made me so uncomfortable in social settings. Because it's easier to eat more while at home close to the food. Therefore my young kids play video games and watch TV, and eat junk too. I push them to eat healthy but they see dad. They see mom too. They do as we do. I'm going to risk it all to have these doctors tip the odds in my favor so my kids start seeing daddy going for walks, volunteering at their school, swimming when we go to a hotel, eating smaller and healthier portions, and sure I'll still watch TV and game (but less time and not while eating - drinking water surely lol). I'm hoping when I go to bed at night that I can put my arm around my wife without a hose attached to my face. I hope that the pills I take are limited to vitamins and I can eliminate the diabetic medication. I even hope that no matter how much exercise I add into my life that I can eliminate the workout I go thru to shower, all the lifting of the belly and reaching for areas that have become harder and harder to reach as my arms must have shrunk (lol) over the years. Yes humor as tears start to swell in my eyes. Humor to try and hide the pain I feel daily when I realize my stomach has reached a point where my arm length is barely long enough to wipe my own @ss. When I reach a new level of humiliation because my male parts are buried in a mound of fat and only usable when I'm aroused. Peeing has become a drop and hold then wipe so it stays clean. I feel like my bathroom routine has become more like a woman's than a mans. All this hidden inside me, feelings that fat has overtaken me. Yes I'm anxious for the next 11 days, I'm certainly nervous of what's to come during the surgery and after, and I'm scared. I'm scared something will go wrong, something will prevent the, from doing it, I'm scared I will screw it up afterwards, I'm scared I'm too weak, I'm scared I'll get thinner and I'm scared that I won't. But I want to live healthier, thinner, and pass on better eating and excessive habits to my children. They more than anyone deserve their dad to be there for them in the best way possible. 11 days and counting. My daughter of 8 years old wants to go on a Rollercoaster with daddy, she wants her daddy to be able to fit on one so bad, she wants to show her daddy how brave she is...... Her daddy looks forward to it.

    June 30th Sleevers?

@@bnm4 I am definitely eating more. I get in 800 calories a day. I get the shakes and feel horrible if I don't. I'm still mostly on liquids with cottage cheese and yogurt added in. To get my protein up, I add Unjury unflavored protein to almost everything. I have good muscle mass and hair I want to keep! I can start more puréed foods, I've just been kind of disinterested in going into the cooking mode yet. I eat some soups, but they're really high in sodium. I wish I could pay someone to be my personal bariatric chef!
  16. I tried to like yogurt, I really did. But the only brand/flavor I grew to love (Oikos Greek, apple Pie flavor) had too many grams of sugar in it (17 or so). Gave up on yogurt altogether-- way to many wasted containers in hopes I'd like one.
  17. Do you eat yogurt? What brand? What sort of toppings to you add to it? It seems like everything but plain yogurt has a lot of sugar in it! I'm getting a little sick of yogurt, but it's such an easy Breakfast while I'm at work I want to keep eating it. I just worry because all the mixed yogurts seem to have alot of sugar in them, even if low calorie. I'm hoping to try mixing it up a little bit. Ideas??? Happy Friday everyone!

    Caffeine

First thing in the morning I have coffee. I started back on it around week 3. About 4 oz. now I'm back up to 1 cup a day. I am a lover of coffee. But I also get in my water through the day. I don't restrict myself from much. I just plan for healthy foods and a daily treat. Those treats would be my coffee and a low sugar dessert like Dannon sugar free yogurt or sugar free jello, Popsicles, or even berries with some Splenda on them. Yum! I couldn't imagine life w/o a cup of coffee first thing.

    Scared of carbs?

I definitely did NOT cut out carbs to lose all my excess weight. (I'm now 6 pounds below goal.) Carbs aren't just sweets and breads. Carbs are in milk, yogurt, fruit, green and other colored veggies, whole grain foods, etc. Carbs are necessary for high energy and good nutrition. I don't understand why people think life after WLS means no carbs or even low carb. I think there's a terrible lack of education about which foods contain carbs and which carb-laden foods are much healthier for us than others. Now on maintenance, I average around 100 grams of Protein a day and 150-200 grams of carbs a day. But I don't eat slider foods (Cookies, chips, crackers, Desserts, sweets, pastas) often at all. Yes, I have them occasionally, but they're not an everyday item on my menu.

    Fed up

Sky- I can do number 1 fine, never had a problem, still don't. As for number 2, I went for the first time 4 days post op and now I go pretty much every 2-3 days. I was very consistent pre op with every day and slowly my body is getting back into the groove of things. My best advice is eat your yogurt and drink plenty of water.
  21. How far along post op are you? I like eating tuna a lot with mayo and Greek yogurt. Rotisserie chicken, cauliflower pizza, asparagus, and there are a lot more!!!
  22. TXMissy

    Food Serving Size

Mobeans- I consider all that slider foods. If I can't get anything else down I eat yogurt. There have been plenty of nights that I sit down to eat. I try to chew up my chicken or turkey patty and it no go. My saving grace every time is my yogurt or cottage cheese. I can kill a 4 oz cup of yogurt and not think twice. However if I can get 2 maybe 3 oz of chicken, turkey, tuna, I am doing great.
  23. I will start mine on August 3. I'm working in some protein shakes/bars, Greek yogurt, etc, not really so much to ease into it, but to see what I like so I'll know beforehand.
  24. This no bread, no pasta, no starch, no rice, and no sugar diet is driving me crazy. I'm running out of ideas of what to eat and I've cheated a couple of times ????????. I feel like I'm earring nothing but meat and fruit and Greek yogurt 24/7. Need advice! Xoxo

    Plain protein powder

Try mixing it with a tablespoon or 2 of Water and a whisk, then add that to whatever you are adding it to. I do it all the time and it comes out completely smooth no blender needed. FYI - I only need to do this if I am mixing it into a hot beverage. If I'm just mixing it with milk or even yogurt, I just dump every thing into my shaker bottle. It dissolves completely with no gritty texture.
