Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Good Morning all.. Well, today was weigh in day as usual and for the very first time since getting surgery April 10, I showed a gain of 1# And yup.. I followed the bandster rules.. EXCEPT for taking 1/2 hour to eat. I can scarf down my meal in 10 minutes so I know now I need a fill. I'm not depressed, not upset. Just wanted you to know that even with following those bandster rules, you can still gain. Now I'll keep at it and hope that pound an at least one more come off by next Sunday. I'm up at the crack of 7 a.m. going to get dressed for church. Everyone have a great day today and remember to follow those bandster rules. Oh.. and Kat.. hope you get all those bugs outta your teeth! You sure made me laugh. And Terry.. WOOOO HOOOOO on your NSV!! That's AWESOME!! I can't wait to be out of women's sizes and into the misses department someday!!!
  2. LMAO Terry~ The only day I "exercised" w/ DP was on my birthday! Other than that, I had no exercise the past 2 weeks. We did walk around in Vegas, but not as much as most people do, due to her feet swelling. So, I am really excited to get back into my routine. Plus a fill will help...I mowed 3 pieces of pizza w/ ease tonight!!! Anyway, thanks for the literal laugh out loud! You crack me up. Oh and by the way, CONGRATS on your NSV. The day I shop in REGULAR CLOTHES I will cry tears of joy! I am so proud of you. And w/ the ups and downs of the last few months...IT IS THE GYM THAT IS MAKING IT HAPPEN. I know many people have different thoughts, but in my opinion it is the gym baby...We love our gym nazi!!!
  3. Green I know I'm always popping in (and off) with advice and that must be pretty boring. But I have to concur with Gail regarding the pillows. If you prop yourself to a practically sitting position, it can work, but usually you wind up sliding down on one side or other and not truly having the head above the feet that you need. You need to be at a true slant, although it doesn't have to be so deep a slant that during your sleep you wind up falling off the foot of your bed. With acid reflux, the very best solution - and one that can change your life, big time - is to do what Gail suggested and raise the head of your bed. It is really the only long term answer, except of course for some drugs. I had to do the drugs and they didn't do as much for me as raising the head of our bed. Anyone who tells you that you can do it with pillows doesn't know what they're talking about. This from a woman who spent many a night sleeping sitting up in a recliner until the reflux calmed down. I don't blame you if you brush off the suggestion because I talk so much, but you can definitely trust me on this one. It's very important that you do it and get some relief. Btw, I'm sure I don't have to tell you that smoking really contributes to acid reflux. I see that your doc has told you about alcohol. What about chocolate? Yup that can too. The good news is that once you get it healed up nicely and learn what makes it worse, it isn't too difficult to take care of at all. Did your doc give you Prevacid or Prilosec? Very happy about your NSV with the restaurant prissy pot owner! Do the natives of Toronto treat fat people with as much disdain as the natives do in Montreal?
  4. hi terri: oh my god terri...congrats on your NSV. the day i can shop in a regular dept i will throw a pool party. see :whip: all the cracking of the whip to get yourself to the gym really paid off...and as i told you before...you helped me to get off my butt to start going. i can do either day too so lets see what the other girls say as a preference. can you pick the place since i dont really know anyplace yet. i can come towards your way if you want. my sister in law is like a walking map so she can direct me. judy: one of my newfoundlands is from lake traverse??? a kennel called harbourlight. she was one of the best breeders i ever met please get on my back on monday to make sure i go for a little fill reduction. if i start feeling better i know i wont go. but i'm having troublem with water tonight. so i'm "telling on myself" so i dont backout wednesday. anyway have a great night everyone

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Oh what a wonderful NSV day today! DH took me shopping for some makeup that I needed and we're walking along and he says, "We need to go get you some new jeans--those are too baggy!" I just bought these one month ago and they were just a wee bit snug. So we head to the REGULAR misses department (WOO FREAKING HOO!!!!!) and bought the 1st pair of jeans I tried on.... Lauren 16's and they fit so beautifully! Oh, and let me add that these are NOT stretch jeans!! So then we go to swimsuits...'cause they're all on sale and I need one for the gym and one for Vegas. 16's were too big so I was trying on 14's! OMG!! A 14!! Well, I told him I had at least one or two size 14's at home so I didn't need to buy one. I'll dig thru that dusty drawer tomorrow and see what I have. Somebody pinch me. Oh, by the way...that spinning class this morning absolutely kicked my butt and I will NOT be going back! I left after about 1/2 hour...my heart rate was WAY too high and my sciatic nerve was acting up (still is). Jeez!!! I coudn't get out of there fast enough. So I went swimming then to the sauna. It was 180 in there today! Whew!!! Felt great. Anyway, I'm now convinced that the scale is not accurately reflecting my progress. And apparently neither is the tape measure. But my clothes are! LIFE IS SOOOOOOOO GOOD!!! PAMELA - I am SO glad you're back!!! I missed you terribly! Not surprised that you're missing the gym. What did you do for exercise while you were gone? Wait, nevermind.... you had DP with you. 'nuf said. Josie - I can do either of those days. What location is convenient for you? TracyK -- wanna meet up with us? Schexy?? Haydee? Kat - I'll bet you a hundred bucks that if you send them a check for $0.00 they'll deposit it. That's how bright those folks sound! DUH! I think you should do it....with a note, "NOW am I paid in full??"

    ja9va: Way to go! Another pound is great!!! Suzzzie: Have you tried Skim Milk when you're thirsty like that? I've found that if I've had all or near all my required water for the day, that milk sometimes hits the spot when I'm still thirsty. I, too, had had a slight weight gain back...like 4 pounds...but I've now lost it plus another pound. NSV ahead: I even turned down Cheesecake Factory Cheesecake that a coworker brought in yesterday. Didn't even want it...and I LOVE Cheesecake Factory Cheesecake. Still battling the infection...it was almost gone and I think it's coming back. I've called the doc to see what they want me to do. UGGGH. And my first fill is a week from today. vbmenu_register("postmenu_515003", true);
  8. Morning Violets! I am in Reno now, visiting w/ my dad. We go home tomorrow! It has been a long 2 weeks, and I've missed so much here. I want to go to Vegas...count me in! I've had to speed read through the threads...I know I've missed so much. I did not see Laura in Vegas...saw many brides though. I'm sooooo needing a fill, can't wait until Wed. Everyone is having many NSV...I am proud of you all. I've got to jump in the shower. We went to Virginia City yesterday, and today we are going to Pyramid Lake for a picnic! I am looking forward to not living out of a suitcase for the next few weeks...then we go to Cape Cod in Aug:faint:. I'll catch up and post a normal posting on Sunday! I can't believe how much I've missed my daily dose of Violets! You ladies rock!

    January Bandsters???

Hey all, brought myself to tears last night... Went to the closet to pick out an outfit for work. I've been rather casual over the summer, so my business clothes are just sitting. So I put on a pair of slacks that I had and noticed…hey…these are big! So without a second thought, moved to another pair of slacks that I've never worn, because they've always been too snug. Wouldn't you know…TOO big. Then it hit me! With a fury like you've not seen…I went from left to right - and tried on every slack, skirt, capri, in my closet. My NSV - I no longer have anything in my closet that is TIGHT. Everything either fits perfectly or is TOO BIG! Those few pairs of pants I bought for 'someday'…came, and WENT! :biggrin1: I brought myself to tears…and did a happy dance! :whoo: So the weight isn't coming off so fast, but the body is changing in size and shape!!! For the better!~ :clap2:

    Steady losers ;-)

So, got up and rode my bike to work this morning! :-) that was fun! I didnt get to ride last night as i was dealing with family issues. So, I think I am going to start off every morning with a LONG ride... a shower and then a short ride to work! I was too tired to get my butt up for a longer ride this morning BUT i am totally going to do it tomorrow. I think I am going to attempt a 10 mile ride this weekend. I think I can do it no problem. I will just keep adding miles every couple of weeks. I dont know about 27!! haha BUT 15 sounds doable... so does 20 for that matter (heck, what is 7 more miles after you just did 20??) might as well, give your butt a reason to hurt! I just wish we didnt have so many blasted hills... nothing is flat here, even the flat spots are sloped up and down -- natural resistance I suppose! :-) VaBand -- (hugs) so glad your scale is moving... maybe you should come have a talk with mine. It doesn't seem to get it. I know what you mean about having a long way to go. I have at least 46 more pounds here and yeah... THAT is pretty much 50. which is a long way :-( congrats on the new car!! that is awesome BooBOO- hey honey! I tell you what if I dont see results soon it is NOT from a lack of trying. I hope once I build whatever muscle it is that I need to build THEN weight will start dropping. amen on the amusement park rides. i still have that fear of "not fitting" -- i haven't been to one in so long. the last time I went, I fit but i remember having to really push to get some of those seats to lock and I felt soo embarassed. I can't wait to go ride some roller coasters again! What an NSV for you!! and a FUN/scary one at that!

Baby Tony was born last night at 7:10 (on 7-11) weighing 7-13. He's adorable, of course, and doing really well. His Mom and Dad were absolute heroes through the whole thing. I'm one lucky Grandma to be invited to be there and help in any small way I could. So that's four grandsons for me and I leave CT in 10 days to help with grandson #5 in NM. Who would have thought after having 9 daughters and 1 son that I we would be in such a grandson mode. It's awesome! NSV: it was SO nice not to be so "in the way" as we moved around the bed and all tried to help Kori--I hate taking up more than my share of space in crowded places. I know I still did but it wasn't nearly as obvious as 25 lbs. ago. Hope all is well with everyone--you guys are great! Have a wonderful day and weekend ahead. Much love from the happy new Grandma.
  16. Good morning everyone.... Terri-she was not just jackin with me cause she took the call for the interview while I was sitting there. Anyway, it all worked out good, so now i can relax! At least for a little while. Michelle, you are right, the drama takes alot out of a person!! Looks like I am going to teeter around 219-221 again, but thats OK. I expected that considering I went from basically all liquids to solids. Makes sense to me so I am not gonna let it get me down (yet, lol) Everyone have a great day and remember what Judy always says... PS, TracyKS, great NSV!!! Feels good doesn't it?

    January Bandsters???

Hello all! It's been a while, I know.... I've been super busy with work, kids, and my band. It's so god to hear all your positives and I'm sorry for all your negatives. It's a learning expereince...I've come to embrace my band and I don't know why didn't do this sooner. I've had my ups and downs. I have a masters in PB's and a Doctorate in Slimming...Chewing is my middle name!!! I'm in ONEDERLAND though, and that has made me one happy girl! NSV's - I wear my wedding band from 12 years ago, I wear a size 10-12 now, and I LOVE to take pictures of myself!!!! So, yes I'm happy, I love my band, and I'm back for support! I've missed you guys!!!! So, keep me psoted and I'll try to do the same!!!! Love and Blessings, Olga

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

TracyKS- Nope, never ate my nanner! I'll save it for tomorrow. I like it mashed togethr with peanut butter and eaten with a spoon for breakfast! Weird, huh? But oh so yummy. Mashed bananas is one of my comfort foods....from like when I was 3!! Yes, I honestly think you'll only be able to eat half of that. Jenn?? Don't you agree? (She's got good restriction) Today it took me 45 mins to eat a scoop of crab salad; it just had crab, dill, lite mayo, celery and green onion in it. My salad plate also had a scoop of chicken salad and fruit salad and a piece of pita bread. Of course, normally it would all be gone within 20 min (pre-band), but after the crab, I had to put the rest away. Later I had 1/2 of the chicken salad and 1/2 of the pita bread at about 4:00. After my workout tonight I had 1/2 banana and <1Tbsp of peanut butter. (Bkfst was 1/2 c cottage cheese and some raspberries; later was a SBD protein snack bar). That's it for the day. I calculate that to be roughly 1050 calories. Minus my workout, that's a net of about 800 calories. A pretty typical day here in bandland. Cool beans on the NSV, girlfriend!! I'm jealous! Not one single person has said anything to me. (except for those who 'know') Kinda irritating. I KNOW I look hawt! Hello!!?!?! TracyK - Feeling better?? So glad to hear about the work situation!! Maybe she was just jackin' with ya. Michelle - your fluids will feel the same. You may first notice restriction when you eat solid food...like tuna or chicken. Do yourself a favor and go slow between bites until you know how a food will go down. The very minute you start to feel pain in your chest...slow down, smaller bites, chew well. Wait for the pain to go before taking one more bite! Where is PAMELA?? I forget. I miss her.... and LAURA too!!! Haydee?? You 'round?

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Terry: Did you ever eat your nanner? I agree with Michelle... do you really think I'll get to the point of only eating HALF? that would be a miracle.... truly........ me the gal that can put away the better part of a large pizza...... (scratch that........ the gal that USED to be able to ) NSV today.. the ladies at my sons daycare asked me how much I'd lost because they could really tell...... I said.. the same 31 lbs plus a HALF pound.. they were shocked because she said she could really tell especially around my middle....... WOW twice in one day for someone to mention my shrinking belly... I'll TAKE IT....... that and me getting so close to the 230's.. I have been EXTREMELY good...... I put a sun chip in my mouth and spit it back out......... I started to have count chocula cereal but I put the bowl away and then b*tch slapped myself into submission and had a couple bites of cottage cheese instead...... I ate less than half of my leftover porksteak and then forced myself not to have desert......... and now it has been over two hours since dinner and I am DUE for my drink........... I WANT THOSE 230's I went to my sisters and picked up two push mowers and tomorrow I'm going to push mow my yard... (I broke the rider when I treated it like a brush hog) I have a rather large yard for living in town.... it spans 5 lots that I had privacy fenced in when I bought this place post divorce.. I had moved from the country and 6 acres so a yard was one of the things I required..... ANYWAY.. I hope everyone is having a great evening.. now I'm going for my drink.

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

I had my pre-op today. My surgery is a week from yesterday! 13 days! I have actually been doing my pre-op diet since Monday. It is so different to just eat protien and veggies. I thought it would be really hard, but it isn't too bad. My body feels different without carbs, though. I didn't like it the first couple of days, but today I am excited about it. Going grocery shopping and getting lots of foods i can eat helped. And I guess diets aren't so formidable when they have an ending date! I also wanted to ask where I can look at the calendar that has been mentioned on here? I am missing that somehow. Congrats to everyone recently banded and all the weight loss successes and NSVs! I can't wait to join the ranks!

    Slow Losers - Unite!

I too am a slow loser. Banded 3/30/07 and have lost 15# since surgery, 35 over the past year. I've got 1 fill....the 2nd should be next week (if they don't postpone things again!) I know having the right restriction should help, but it's so frustrating when the Dr. office has to reschedule things. I can tell I'm fighting to keep my calories lower. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the fact I'm 35 less (NSVs & back to my wedding size feel GREAT) but I didn't get this thing to let it just sit inside my body. I want to be able to use the tool properly! Over the past year I've really made changes with my eating and now it's mostly quantity that's still the problem. (Thus my reasons for even getting a band...) It's so nice to hear I'm not the only one feeling unmotivated. My hubby is very supportive, but having folks dealing with this same issue means a lot. Thanks all for sharing and allowing me to vent. Annette

Hey Marchies. I'm feeling a piece of the disconnect too. It's on the extreme other side of the equation, but it's real none the less. I know I get on here and talk about my biking long distances and losing with out a fill. I'm not on here bragging, but sharing my experiences going through this journey that we all started around the same time. But to be frank, I don't report all of the NSVs and all the good stuff that's happening because I don't want to seem as if I am gloating. I recognize that many of you are not seeing the same results that I am. I want to say "hang tough" and "keep to the plan" and support and encourage and I do that to a certain extent, but apparently not enough. And yeah to make my point, yesterday my surgeon asked me to speak at his next group orientation of 100 people because in his words I'm "the perfect banded patient." I didn't feel like I could share that here, because it would be recieved as Juli bragging. But I was flattered and proud and feel like for once in my life I'm in control of food instead of food being in control of me.

Hey Marchie Friend! I liked your NSV! I have just recently started using the non-handicapped toilets...what a feeling to me able to open a bathroom door with out causing a bruise! He He
  24. First, congrats on the NSV. Your leg crossing description made perfect sense and I'm looking forward to being able to do that again. Sometimes the small things mean alot. Secondly, thanks for the analysis of the binge. You're doing some of the hard work for those of us who still have issues to deal with. It is also a realistic look at the road that lies ahead. You are a wonderful example of what can be achieved and also a wonderful reminder that just getting the weight off is not all there is to it. All our old bad habits won't just magically disappear and even banded we can still try to use food as a sedative or a distraction (i checked my spelling and saw distraction defined as mental distress or derangement - good word) from what's really bothering us. I am so encouraged though by your honesty and willingness to share the good and the bad. I think "doing the numbers" really does help to put things in perspective. Yes, you kind of went off the deep end, but it really is just a minor blip in the big picture and you recognize that and have moved on. That is the big lesson here.

I've felt the same way about the posting. Its why I wasn't as active either. I hope we can get to be more supportive of one another! Its wonderful when we have NSV, of course it is also awesome to see the scale move down, and kind of scary to see it move up like it did for me this weekend. I'm back on track though. I made myself some Jello to have when I feel like I need to snack. That way it isn't too many calories and I add a little fat free whipped topping which is only 20 cals!
