    GENEPRO

This is just my opinion which means nothing, BUT, there are Bariatric clinics who recommend GenePro. It isn't "bad" for you in the sense of being a bad product. Now does it contain 30 grams of protein, prolly not, more like 15-20. Is it pure protein, prolly not, but if you are eating a diet rich in protein it's not that serious. If your doctor is fine with the product and your blood work is fine then enjoy. I used it the first month with no problems but it was recommended by my doctor because I could not get protein shakes down until 8 weeks post op. It's a personal choice but in no way is it poisoned and harmful, just factually overrated perhaps. Your decision.

    Harder than I thought

I, too, have had problems with things not tasting good anymore. Ive had trouble with most of the fake sweetener and cant get down pure Water yet. I always have to have ice tea, Powerade, diluted juice. Most of the crystal lights i used to enjoy taste blech to me. As far as the foods, have you tried experimenting? Have you found something you kinda like and swapped out ingredients to find a better balance/flavor? I have a hard time with most of the shakes but GENEPRO doesnt bug me for the most part and i really enjoy the muscle milk coffee house. HW 385 SW 359 CW 344 Sleeved 10/5/16
  3. I add a scoop of unflavored Genepro to anything every day. It has 30 mg of protein in one small scoop [emoji6]
  4. Since I've come to this site exactly one month ago, I have been "collecting" tips as I've come across them. I was just keeping them for myself, and then I realized they may be helpful to someone else. I'll bookmark this page and update it as I come across new and valuable info. Most of these are direct quotes, and had I known I was going to share this I would have kept the original poster's name to give them credit for the tips, but alas, I did not. So, thank you to everyone who may have contributed, and keep the good stuff coming! I count my breakfast Premier Protein shake as a meal, not a Fluid. (30 grams of protein) 30-60 minutes later, I have a cup of coffee. (Count it as a fluid if you like.) After that, I drink a 24-oz. tumbler of decaf, sugar-free iced tea, like Crystal Light throughout the morning. (Lots of frequent sips) Then I walk for 40+ minutes. Then it's lunchtime - tuna salad or chicken salad, or leftover protein from dinner. (16-22 grams of protein) and maybe a bite of veggies if there's room. About 45 minutes after lunch, I'll fill another 24-oz tumbler of iced tea and sip that throughout the afternoon, finishing by 30 minutes before my afternoon snack. At around 4:00, my afternoon snack is usually a Greek yogurt (12 grams of protein) or some leftovers. (This is also a good time to get in some veggies or a V-8 if you're getting enough protein at other times.) Maybe a cup of hot tea in the later afternoon. (Count it as a fluid you like.) Then dinner – again, getting 20-25 grams of protein from lean steak, fish, chicken, or pork, and maybe a bite or two of veggies. Finally, another 24-oz cup of iced tea or water 30-45 minutes after dinner that I sip throughout the evening. If I'm hungry later, sugar-free Jell-O or sugar-free popsicles are good. And if I'm short on protein or still hungry, another yogurt or protein shake. (I'm not worried about the calories because this menu only provides 700-900 per day.)

Syntrax Nectars are nice, I like all the fruit flavors and they're quite high protein. You should be able to drink clear broth as well, doesn't your program allow that on Clear liquids? You can add protein to it...I use GENEPRO unflavored protein and I can't detect it once I mix it into a beverage or food...what brand are you using? Another thing to consider is that maybe you're sensitive to the sweetener in your Protein Shakes? I hate both aspertame (not in a lot of protein) and sucralose (in virtually every flavored protein), so I switched to Genepro and use either stevia or monkfruit liquid to sweeten things. Thank you so much, ordered the Genepro (one tbsp. per 30 g is way better). Yes I think its the sweeteners also. I can handle Propel water so at least I am getting my 64 oz fluids (well do my best) but the protein is a challenge now which is so frustrating (also going broke buying all this stuff lol) I cant wait to the soft food stage so that I can eat eggs and other kinds of high protein stuff.

    5 days post op

Thanks, JamieLogical, for pointing that out. *I'm* comfortable counting it as 30g based on local support group members who are using it and having good labs, as well as my surgeon's support, but everyone should consider the chance that it's only 15g per serving. Well, obviously beyond the liquid food stages, we should all be aiming to get the majority of our protein from actual food. So hopefully we'd only be using Genepro or any protein supplements as just that, a supplement. At that point whether it's actually 15 or 30 grams or somewhere in between shouldn't matter much. But if someone is supposed to be getting 90 grams a day and is relying solely on Genepro to get there, the risk would be only getting 45 grams, which would put them WAY short of their target.

    Full liquids starts tomorrow!

I'm interested in this too...although I have been on this phase for 5 days! LOL I have been scouring Pinterest for ideas and here are some: https://sleevers.wordpress.com/2014/03/29/high-protein-jello-mousse-full-liquids-stage/amp/ https://www.bariatricfoodie.com/how-to-make-protein-oatmea/ https://www.bariatricfoodcoach.com/liquid-recipes-protein-shakes-after-bariatric-surgery/ https://www.theinspirationedit.com/31-soup-recipes-for-gastric-bypass-patients/ Mostly, I have been making Campbell's Healthy Request Cream of "Whatever" soup, thinned with additional 1% milk and strained to remove any non-liquid bits for my one savory meal per day. I also eat one greek yogurt per day and a couple of protein shakes. Everything I make, I add a scoop of Genepro protein powder to up my protein intake...I even made protein jello shots!

    Help with protein

so I would reccommend purchasing genepro! it IS a protein powder, but you can mix it in anything (it's flavorless). I try to stay away from shakes because I become so dependent on them/replace all of my meals with them. Instead, I eat "normal" now and since I drink a lot of coffee during the day, I just add genepro to my coffee and I can never tell its there! I had it during my pureed stage too and would put it into pudding and stuff. works wonders! it's a tablespoon sized scoop and is 30 grams of protein per scoop.
  9. Protein can be added to soups. Lots of Soups go easily in the blender. I used mostly canned vegetable and veg beef. Also made a homemade Soup called "Souper easy Mexican Bean Soup" that was great, wife liked it very much without the blending. Recipe out on internet. I would simply blend up enough for 3-4 servings and package them in individual servings of say 4-5 oz each. Baby oatmeal or even blended regular oatmeal works real well. Cottage cheese became a favorite even blended with some No Sugar added peaches. Pureed tuna salad and chicken salad worked real well. I think a key is finding a truly "No Flavor and taste free" Protein that you can add to anything. I tried several of the non-flavored versions of brand Proteins but they always added some vanilla taste to anything I mixed them with. Didn't always go well as I did throw more than 1 item away. I finally found GENEPRO, a truly tasteless Protein Powder. You can mix 1 TBsp of the powder for 30 gm protein into plain Water with no taste. While it seems much more expensive per ounce it really isn't per serving. I usually add 1 or 2 tsp (10gms protein each) to things I need or want more protein from with no change in taste. Bottom line, I can now add protein to anything I want to, even my decaf coffee.

    Body Fortress

I haven't used that one. But I did like ATKINS, Rich, and Dark Chocolate MYOPLEX. But a good nonflavored protein is GENEPRO. You can mix it with anything you want to, I put it in my Espresso every day. It is a good nonflavored protein, in fact, it is the only one that I have tried that didn't have any flavor at all. Good Luck.

    August 31st!!!

Best of luck to you! I'll be one week post-op tomorrow, and if you're like me, you're in for a tough weekend! But you'll get through it!! Within a few hours of getting to my room (post-op), I was up walking. It's not bad because you still have anesthesia on board. I walked four times that evening. The next morning, I walked four times before noon. I was able to keep down 30ml, then 60ml, then 90ml, then 120ml and I thought, "I'm killing this!" And then I went home. And the anesthesia wore off. Ugh. The pain and nausea were pretty bad. I couldn't get out of bed by myself it hurt so bad. I felt sick to my stomach any time I put anything in it (ice, water, watered-down apple juice, milk, protein shake, etc.) All despite taking an anti-nausea med 3x/day. Eventually I got thirsty enough that I was able to drink water and very, very diluted apple juice. I thought I'd never make my protein goal which was only 60 grams in the first few days. I might have made 30g. I was wondering if I had really made a mistake, if I could really do this. Was I going to be tired and weak forever? Until yesterday. For breakfast, I blended a few pieces of banana with 4 oz Fairlife milk and protein powder and made myself drink it until it was gone. I felt better once it was in my system. I continue to drink and eventually got up the nerve to take my multivitamins. I got the Bariatric Advantage crystallized kind that you mix with water. It tasted awful, but I got it down. Ever since I have felt so much better. Been able to get my protein in (thanks to Genepro) and stay hydrated. Took vits again today and still feel pretty good. Hope this continues! You'll do great! Just know there's a light at the end of the tunnel and it's not far away! HW 280 CW 267 SW 274 (8/24/17) GW 150

    To do!

If you are trying out samples, be sure to try those that are 100% Protein isolate, which is the most absorbable protein. Examples that I can think of right now are unjury (available online), Syntrax nectar, and GENEPRO.
  13. I ordered it online. It was $30 for a container of it. Well worth it! It saved my butt. I'm sure you can get unflavored at GNC or something as well. But genepro is formulated for post WLS patients from what I understand. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Cream of Wheat nightmare! Help!

I am 2 months post-op and eat plain oatmeal with Genepro protein powder, SF Torani Vanilla syrup, and PB2... Tastes like a PB cookie right out of the oven :-)
  15. I'm 10-days post-op and very happy to say that things have been going well. I've had no trouble getting liquids in and so far (cross fingers) my new little tummy is doing well with almost everything I've given her. I am on full liquids and will be for three more weeks. For my meals so far I've had Fairlife shakes, a couple of the bariatric pal soup mixes, yogurt with peanut butter protein and SF caramel syrup added (it was so good!), and Pero fake coffee with genepro in it. It would be nice to add a little variety over the next three weeks. Does anyone have a favorite full liquids recipe to share? I'll take favorite pureed recipes too since I'll be on that stage for another 3-4 weeks after graduating from full liquids. Thanks in advance!

    My body feels awful...

@@Overcomer_Rev1211 I'm 2 weeks out tomorrow, and I'm struggling with everything you are. Everytime I stand up, I get so dizzy my vision dims for a second. It scares me. I also feel HORRIBLY weak. I started out being able to get all my fluids in, all my protein, and I was walking every day. That lasted a week...this entire second week, I haven't walked once, I've gone the last 4 days with MAYBE 24g protein per day (and that's pushing it, and I'm only getting half my water down. NOTHING appeals to me. I think I'm just burned out on the full liquids and I'm waiting for an order of Genepro protein I got off Amazon...it's supposed to be fantastic and I can add it to ANYTHING I eat. I'm looking very much forward to my first post op appt tomorrow and getting the go ahead to begin the puréed phase. I am praying I start to feel better soon, and I'll pray for you too. It's definitely no fun. Much harder than I imagined. And I didn't come into this thinking it'd be simple, but crap!
  17. Had my surgery on 12/10. About to go into my second week of pureed foods. I’ve been really good about following the post-op instructions. Does the hunger ever go away? A big reason I went ahead with the surgery was that I was told that with gastric sleeve, you don’t feel so hungry. Honestly, I was relying on that. For the past few weeks I crave everything I see on tv, my husband eats, etc. And I feel hungry enough that I could eat that entire burger and fries, or two slices of pizza (my usual pizza intake before surgery), or whatever. It’s not just bad foods. Good healthy food also makes me salivate. Obviously I don’t, because it’s not allowed. But I was hoping that I wouldn’t be so hungry, which makes the cravings worse. Also, when I eat my pureed food, I can get in between 3-4 oz. And I eat tiny spoonfuls and very slowly (30-40 mins). When I stop, it’s not because my stomach feels full/satisfied. It’s because I feel pain in my stomach. Does that make sense? And an hour later I think I feel hungry again but by this point I’m trying to get fluids with Genepro in. I just basically feel hungry all day. Even though I eat 4 times a day and I’m getting my fluids in.
  18. THANKS EVERYONE! I gave it a shot! Had hubby get me some GENEPRO Medical Grade flavorless whey protein from GNC. It includes enzymes to help break down the protein I guess. Apparently from what GNU rep said many do and they are listed on label since whey is difficult to break down for everyone( who knew!!) Tried it last night a couple times and tolerated it very well. I'd recommend this brand. I was even able to sprinkle on JELLO and wasn't any taste (to me anyway) Hving it in c.f. iced tea now. 1 tBsp is 30g of protein. I think this will go a LONG WAY in helping me get my protein in daily!
  19. I am with you Bluesea71, GENEPRO is tasteless. I put it in my pre-workout drink and it dissolved well, mixed well and tastelessly with my eggs. It is worth trying. I have been trying to get my protein up closer to 200g per day, and at 30g a serving this could supplement the 100g I am getting from regular food sources.

    Protein

Thanks for the hint. I'm going to remember that when it's time to get started. I tried the Premier strawberry and didn't like it, although lots of people do seem to like Premier. I've ordered unflavored unjury and GENEPRO so I hope they are truly unflavored! I've also got a sample pack of the nectar Protein drinks.

    Aversion to sweet protein drinks

I cannot tolerate the sweet and I have never liked sweet drinks. Even the Greek Yogurt has tons of sugar in it. What I found is: GENEPRO http://www.musclegen.net/ .... this is oderless and tasteless and does not clump. You can add it to hot or cold....or just sprinkle over your food. This stuff is great. One tablespoon equals a scoop of whey and has 30 grams of Protein. It is approved by John Hopkins and has 96% absorbtion. You can also order it from Amazon. I fix a Crystal Light and a scoop. I understand you can contact the website and they will send you a sample?
  22. Hi everyone. Coming up on day 7 post op. Down 13 pounds. Very little pain and overall feeling good except for one thing- I AM SO HUNGRY! Everyone says we should not be hungry but I know what I'm feeling is physical hunger. All day I think and dream about food. Not even super fatty food. Just a bite of chicken breast or a cucumber would make me happy. I'm dreaming about the purée stage at this point. I've been getting my liquids and Protein in but that only totals to about 200-300 calories a day. I've been adding GENEPRO to almost everything I consume to get my protein in. shakes started making me sick and I'm even allowed yogurt and SF pudding. Taking a PPI twice a day. What should I do??? I don't feel like this is normal. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. I'm one week and on liquids only. I have a shake for breakfast and lunch and broth with Genepro for dinner. I can have almond milk (I mix with shakes) and strained cream soup. 543 calories (includes my 2 B-complex supplements) and 85 grams of protein.
  24. If there's a Sprouts near you they have an unflavored whey isolate Protein powder that dissolves very well into both hot and cold liquids, and is odorless and tasteless. The drawback is that it doesn't have as much protein as other powders do, with just 9 grams. It only has 40 calories, zero fat, and zero carbs. The perk of it is that you can buy it by the weight and try it out before deciding to make a larger purchase. I started off with a bag that just cost $2.85. I've also liked GENEPRO. I'm a bit dubious about the claims, but I will say that I only had positive experiences with the product. It mixed into everything smoothly, and was undetectable. I don't know if it was a matter of causation or correlation but my hair loss really slowed down and I felt more energetic while using it. I just added it to my morning coffee (which my doctor approves of; I know some surgeons are against caffeine) rather than using it as a meal substitute, though. With both of the unflavored powders you can add them to something like Crystal Light. Gatorade Light is relatively low in calories and carbs and Protein Powder could be mixed into it, though I would only have that as a post-workout drink or something rather than a staple drink. I really liked the fruit flavored Isopure drinks before surgery, but was repulsed by them afterwards. Anything overly sweet wasn't palatable to me until about 5 months post surgery. They did remind me of Gatorade. I didn't care for Isopure or Unjury's unflavored protein powders, but many do like them. Syntrax has a lot of fruit-flavored protein powders. Vitamin Shoppe often has them available in sample packs, so you can try them out before committing to one of the big, pantry-space hogging containers. http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/b/syntrax/N-9bk#

    Genepro Protein?

I've read the same stuff. They're not claiming that it's the same chemical structure. They're trying to explain in layman's terms how they're changing the chemical structure. They're describing stripping out everything but the protein chain and then binding the protein chain to less stuff but still stabilizing the protein chain and in the process making it more bioavailable. In trying to make it understandable to non scientists they've actually made their description not scientifically accurate. My scientist dad used to get driven crazy by this, he called it "simplification to the point of error". I've read some other documents by the company, and it appears to me they're claiming that their process of refining the Proteins reduces allergens and makes more of the protein bioavailable and that's what they're basing the claim on. I've also read the outcomes from the clinical trial. While I think there are some basic flaws in the study design, my conclusion based on the raw data from the study (available at clinical trials dot gov) is that Genepro is as good as any other Protein powder. I have found it to be easier to mix in more foods at more temperatures than other brands, so I'll stick with it. For me, it's like the question of which is better, a .380 or a 9mm? The answer is the one you'll actually carry. My 9mm is a much better weapon, but it's not concealable. My .380 is, so it's the one I'm more likely to actually have at hand. If another protein powder is better, but I won't use it because it's gritty or changes the texture too much, or won't dissolve well in hot liquids, is it really better? Exactly. I agree. That's why I use it too... Until I hear otherwise, I'm not changing. My blood work is perfect this past year so that's another reason. Also, I'm pretty sure they don't want to give out too much of their process details, not just to break it down in laymen's terms but also so other companies won't copy it. Maybe it's just simply denatured protein with the addition of Prohydrolase hehe. So even if they break the peptide bonds, and do change the structure, it still contains all the amino acids which our bodies still benefits nutritionally from (both through absorption and digestion). P.S. That's so cool your dad is a scientist. My dad was a surgeon before he passed away, and I tried that route but ended up as a scientist instead. I kept passing out watching his surgeries .
