Must Haves to Eat at Home After Surgery?
Yaberhoo replied to fluffytofit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Immediately after surgery for the first week I had apple juice, Water, and broth. Week two I introduced Protein by putting GENEPRO in sugar free hot chocolate and cream soups. -
Can you have too much protein?
betsy_1990 replied to Kitty112415's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use Genepro also and I checked with my NUT and she said it was fine. I like it because it's only a Tbsp for 30gm or protein and it really doesn't alter the taste of things. -

Btw I agree on Genepro. They don't respond well to questions either getting argumentative and combative. Makes me think they aren't convinced on their product either. -
Can you have too much protein?
Kindle replied to Kitty112415's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As far as I'm concerned GENEPRO isn't really Protein. There are absolutely no third party studies or analyses that support the manufacturer's claims. There are no unbiased studies that indicate pre and post protein serum levels that would quantify the absorption rate and efficiency. No analysis of individual amino acids to indicate whether it is a complete protein or not. Basically They start out with whey protein, but the molecule is then so altered, it is really no longer a protein molecule. They play around a lot with the hydrogen. It doesn't take much to change what something is when you start adding and removing atoms. For example, the oxygen we breath is made of 2 oxygen molecules. Remove one of them, add two hydrogen molecules and you have Water. Add one more hydrogen and you have hydrogen peroxide. Oxygen, water and hydrogen are not interchangeable even though they differ by just 1-2 molecules. Now let's look at this company's other products....."miracle" weight loss and male enhancement supplements. Not a lot of credibility there. You're better off sticking with "real" protein supplements with decades of scientific proof that they are providing proper nutrition. But be careful not to chug down a high Protein shake in too short of time. Our intestines can only absorb 10-20g of whey protein per hour. Other types of protein are absorbed even slower. Any excesses protein is converted to glucose, so you might as well be drinking sugar water. -
Can you have too much protein?
Kitty112415 replied to Kitty112415's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you! I have been taking 5,000 units of biotin for the past 2 months figuring I would give myself a headstart. My doctor said that I should be having 80-100 grams of protein a day and seeing how I am already getting sick of the shakes on my pre-op diet figured this GENEPRO protein would make it easier to get in by adding it to my drinks. -
I am having my surgery on Tuesday, November 24th. From recommendations I bought GENEPRO Protein powder which has 30 grams of protein per serving. It's supposed to be tasteless and odorless and not change the consistency of anything so I was thinking I could just add it to everything I drink to get my protein in. My biggest concern is hair loss and everyone keeps telling me that I need to make sure I get all my protein in and it should help. First, Is this true? Second, Is it possible to have too much protein in a day?

Does protein have to come from shakes?
triciakae replied to JohnnysGirl0424's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I havn't been able to stomach Protein shakes since 2 weeks post op. I am now 4 months out. Yes you can get the protein in without shakes. Are you in the pureed stage? If so try getting GENEPRO unflavored protein. You can add it to anything to be able to get your protein in. Also I follow the rule of every snake or meal has to be atleast 10grams of protein. So if you are following the eat 6 times a day that is 60grams of protein. -
I am 3 months out, but to make sure I get my Protein I put a scoop of GENEPRO powder in my yogurt, which is usually my afternoon snack. It does not change the taste at all to me, and between that and my premier Protein shake for Breakfast, that's 60gms. I am now at 80-100gms, but by lunchtime I am more then halfway there, just a suggestion.
-
Thanks everyone, today thank goodness I am really not hungry and have hardly been eating, but I did get 60gms of Protein so far, 1 premier shake and unflavored GENEPRO with some yogurt, and then dinner should give me my 80-100gms The reason I cannot take a PPI is because prior to my surgery I had SIBO, which can come from using a PPI for an extended time. I really should not even take pepcid, but since it is not a PPI it seems to be OK and works just as well.

Best (unflavored) protein powder
Skywalker replied to Skywalker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On my second container of GENEPRO right now. Have been trying to add it to at least two meals a day (so that's 60g Protein right there). I love the consistency and lack of flavor. It actually makes greek yogurt taste a little better, IMO. The weight loss stall might be moving. Down a couple lbs. Will keep you guys posted, I have to figure out something to not be complacent and get this moving again. -

I'm having trouble with my water also, what I have been doing is adding unjury unflavored protein powder to a 20oz powerade zero. Then I drink bottled water to get the rest of my fluids in for the day.I didn't think about adding the unflavored to my propel that is a great idea! Do u like the unjury unflavored? I got a sample of Matrix and Jay Robb to try.I haven't tried any of the other's the unjury unflavored has 20 grams protein per scoop & seems to be ok. If you can find something that gives you more like what Jenaenae84 suggested you might try it.It's called GenePro I got it online at Amazon really great and 30 grams of protein per serving which is one tablespoon -
I use the Genepro protein powder from amazon. You can mix it with the smallest amount of liquid or sf jello or whatever she can tolerate. It is 30 gr protein in 1 tablespoon. It is supposed to be odorless and tasteless but i can smell and taste it very faintly.

Really Struggling Post-Surgery-Need Help!
Debbieduck4 replied to blueyedpryncess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Like others have said, keep drinking. And if you are able to drink more than eat, maybe try making some smoothies with Protein in them. Have you tried the GENEPRO Protein powder? Its tasteless and can be mixed in anything hot or cold with no lumps or bumps. 30 grams of protein in one tablespoon. It has been a lifesaver for me. As far as your ounces, I wouldn't even worry about that. Really. Just eat what you can as you go here at the beginning. You will be able to eat a little more each week as your tummy heals and you will get more of a regular mealtime routine down. Right now, its about liquids and trying to get in some protein. Good luck on your journey! -

GENEPRO is a lifesaver for me. I can have one cup of coffee so for Breakfast, I drink my coffee & 1 scoop of Genepro. 30g of Protein. Then if I am not that hungry, I will do another scoop later in a yogurt or something. It has no flavor. It mixes well if you follow directions. -

Best Advice I've recieved from this site
SeahawksFan posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Today marks exactly one year since I started my preop diet and I was reminded of all the wonderful things I've learned from this site so I thought I'd share a few. 1. Never knew about the 3 week stall until I read it on here. 2. salad Bar-Someone else had posted this tip. I now go to the Salad bar at Safeway right down the street from my house and load up the container with all sorts of veggies and do not add any dressing. Then for the week I just use my precut veggies out of my box. I waste so much less and it's super easy. 3.Powercrunch bars...they are my favorite. 4.Genepro unflavored Protein. Love this stuff heard of a new one called Piping rock that I will try when I run out of GENEPRO. 5.If you stall keep measuring as you're probably losing inches 6.Healthy options at fast food places, recipes, snack ideas And now I've ordered a new moisturizer cream. So much wonderful information on here. I am sure there is more that I am forgetting. How about the rest of you what have you found to be the most helpful? ~LA -

Clear Protein shakes: Isopure NoCarb, whey juice, Cytosport. Traditional protein shakes are powder or RTD look for brands such as Isopure, Premiere Protein, Syntrax nectar, Orgain Organics, etc... they are either premixed or powder form that can be mixed with milk of choice or Water. If you are looking for clear savory beverage. Unflavored Protein Powder can be mixed with clear broths or Soups. Isopure, GENEPRO, unjury and Syntrax make an unflavored version. Your local GNC or Vitamin shop may also have a variety of unflavored whey isolate powders.
