Has anyone else experienced this post op?
mandi78 replied to mbeckett1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry if this is asking TMI but does the gas that you all have and talk about usually expel in burp form or do you pass it the other way a lot too? :embarassed: Just wondering what to expect. -
Relationships or meeting someone new post op
Wolfgirl78 replied to Jobey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the sleeve 4 years ago. I only started dating about a year ago and in a relationship. My scars don't show. I pointed them out to my bf one night because he asked about them and I had trouble finding them. I guess to tell or not to tell varies person to person. For me, I saw this relationship I was in as a long term thing so I told. I was more worried about having to explain why I can still eat so little than scars. TMI warning, I was never concerned about my excess skin until we had naughty time in front of a mirror recently. Omg I need a boob lift and tummy tuck Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Last night, my husband decided he wanted Subway. So I went and got him a sandwich, and I got me a salad. I ate all the little short chicken strips (I think there was about 5). And then I had about 5 bits of lettuce and cheese. I all of a sudden got a pain in my chest, so I stopped eating. I started pbing and that was not giving me any relief. Most of the stuff that was coming up was just spit, but sometimes had some lettuce. (sorry for the tmi) I took a shower and let the hot water hit my chest, and that helped. I sat down in bed for about 5 mintues. And then got back up and here it came. My husband had fallen asleep. I threw up so hard and loud that it woke up my husband. I did it about 3 or 4 times. I can tell my pouch is irritated, so I am doing liquids today. Do I need to call my doctor to make sure I didn't do any damage?

Ok Fairy - it looks like you may be alittle short on your Proteins. If you switch to skim milk you will reduce calories and fat too and i don't have a problem with it. How about butter or are u just using cheese for your flavor? I think you may need to increase to 1000 caloires one day - next day 900 - 1100 nextday - 1000 the next - vary you intake and try and get some wlking in... Are you using lite mayo - I don't use fat free stuff - but i do use the lite one - and your cheese may be adding up the caloires too. Are your pudding & yogurt sugar free?? Low fat - surgar free foods - talk to your doc - on your next visit - you may have a slow mebotablisim... I eat Breakfast -sf yogurt - 60 c - 5 pt Or 1/2 c Eggbeaters with cheese 100 c - 12 pt Snack - 1 oz cheese 100 c - 7 pt Lunch - small can tuna 70c 15pt & veggies 75c or fish/veggies Clear Protein Drink - 70c 15 pt Dinner - 4 oz fish baked - 250c 28 pt 1/2 c rice 120c 1 pt veggie w/butter spray - 50c 1 pt Snack - 2 sf choc puddings 120 6 pt - 1 sf fudgecicle 80 c 3pt It will come off - slowly but surely - are you retaining water?? do you need a new scale - only get on scale once a week at the same time (i do it naked 1st thing in the morning after my bathroom routine - tmi )

No but I'm ovulating sorry tmi

My surgeon said it gave him insight into how well I was healing. By day 6 or so the liquid was turning a yellowish pink (I know, TMI!) and he said that was a really good sign that all was well with my stomach closure.

Banded Wed. 14, 4 days out...still having pain
NY2LAGirl replied to Anita Sue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still in pain I was banded on the 13th I feel like my side is ripping where the port is every time I try to sit up or stand up straight. My incision looks ok too. Have you tried the Gas-X strips they have really helped with the gas. I even went to the bathroom for the first time today since surgery don't know if that was from the strips sorry if that TMI. Try Kashi Golean with skim milk blend it with ice cubes it's like a milk shake! Good Luck -
A little over 5 weeks post op
hollysmith0208 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello All... I am new to this website and thought I would share my story. I had VSG surgery on September 28th 2010. I will be completley honest with my journal enteries! ALWAYS! The first week was NO FUN! I had a tough time keeping ANYTHING down. The doctor's said that my stomach was tight and it would take some time, but it would get better. IT DID! after the first week, things got MUCH MUCH better! I stayed on liquids for the first two weeks, then mushies for two weeks and now I eat alot of mushies but try and intergrate solid foods. I am still having some trouble with eating solids. I did learn that I cannot eat white meat chicken, it must be dark meat. White meat is just too dry for me to keep down, no matter how I prepare it. I made chicken and dumplings for my family the other night and used chicken thighs and I ate everything but the duplings. It was really good and it settled very well. I am so happy that I decided to have the VSG surgery. I have only been post op[/size] for a little over 5 weeks and have lost about 28 pounds. I started out at 260 before surgery and lost 5 pounds in the two weeks before surgery. Then the day of surgery I was at 255... so from the day of surgery I have lost 28 pounds... from the highest weight that I was (260) I have lost 33 pounds. A couple weeks ago I had a platue and did not loose for about 4-5 days and was really depressed, but then I started loosing again and felt much better. Before surgery I had Fibromyalgia very badley and since surgery have been pretty pain free. I am very hesitant to excercise because I do not want the fibromyalgia to flair up but am trying to stay as active as I can without going overboard. I know I really should be excersizing more... We just moved into our new house a couple months ago, so the Wii balance board had been packed away... So I thought; I will hook it up and do some cardio excercises on the Wii.... But to my disappointment the balance board would not work. I had my husband look at when he got home and he could not get it to work either. He said it looked like one of the girls (my daughters) had spilled something on it. POOPY! So there goes that! Maybe I can ask for a new balance board for christmas! LOL. Anyways... for those of you out there that are contiplating getting this surgery done or not... I say go for it!!! It does not work all on its own, you have to listen to your body and stay committed to the new lifestyle, but if you are up for that then GO FOR IT! I am only 5 weeks out and it has already changed my life for the better. My marriage has always been good... Will be married to my husband for 10 years this coming June... and with the weight gain over the years, my sex drive had deplenished! That was tough on my marraige! My husband has no problem in that area and just could not understand why I had NO DRIVE! He took it personally that I had no interest in him... That was not the case, I just never felt good enough for him! I did not want to take my clothes off the way I was! I felt, FAT, UGLY & DEPRESSED! None of that says SEX APPEAL to me! But since the surgery and since the pounds have been coming off the desire has become much more apparent on my part and you can tell that my husband really likes what he sees! I think sex is a very important factor in a good marriage and I think that was just a little something that we were missing before and have regainned it from after the surgery. Some of you may think this is TMI (to much info) but I want to be as truthful and helpful as I can for those of you out there that are contiplating this surgery. I will be posting as much as I can! I lead a pretty busy life, but will try and post often. Please ask any questions that you like and will answer you with the utmost honesty! Good luck to you all! -
A very interesting evening for me...
juliarh replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey Irene -- so sorry you went through this -- but I'm really glad it had a happy ending. I was slightly lactose intolerant before surgery and now am REALLY lactose intolerant -- won't go near the stuff. It will just come out really fast (I know, I know - TMI). And good for you to recognize that you were getting back into some bad habits. Let us know how your liquid diet goes. Feel better soon! -
I was sleeved in April and was doing good with mostly everything until about a month or so ago I had the worst constipation I have ever had. I called my Drs. office they prescribed Miralax which I started taking daily at the time. Plus I got milk of magnesium which helps tremendously too. I finally got over that episode and started to be regular again, not taking the Miralax all the time and then bam!!! I get another episode. I do have to say that taking the Miralax and the milk of magnesium together worked really fast. About 15-20 Minutes. So it won't be a week long episode like my last one. Can someone please tell me why these just happen out of nowhere? Do I really need to take Miralax almost every day? Suggestions please and sorry for the gross topic [emoji15] Sent from my VS990 using BariatricPal mobile app

Trouble with bowel movements

My rny was the 18th. Not just constipation but STUCK. Sorry. Tmi. I just bought some Ready Fiber today and drank miralax last night. I bought a laxative suppositiry and an enema if none of this works. I hope it works. Gross on the latter two. Lol I feel your pain. -
I was banded in March 2010, and had slow and not too steady success with my band - some other health issues got in the way. Things were moving along nicely combining my band with Weight Watchers. Like everyone else, I had those occasional PB's, those foods you learn are not going to go down, the occasional, "Oops - forgot and eat too much/too fast" and from the beginning, I usually could not eat wearing a bra. In July 2012 things changed...now I couldn't eat while sitting down, and never before 10a. Every night I'd sit down to dinner with my tablespoon of whatever Protein or main dish, a tablespoon each of that evening's veggies, maybe a 1/4 cup salad and three thumb nail sizes bites in, I'd be in the bathroom throwing up. After expelling my three bites and a giant mucus ball, I might be able to get my portion of the main dish down...in about 45 minutes and only if I was standing up. I had to give up eating out after a mortifying "3 Bite" episode @ a business meeting. I started having that burning sensation in my throat. I was getting sick everyday. What happened in July? The only thing I can think of was that I'd had carpal tunnel surgery. I have always had to be "patched" before surgery because of severe nausea. Before this procedure, though, the anesthesiologist told me I didn't need it since I'd only be under 15 minutes. It was day surgery so I was home that afternoon. Hadn't eaten and wasn't hungry. Took the dog out to do her business, and my world tilted - I began retching and couldn't stop. My weight crept up from 216 to 227 - combination of not eating &/or just getting what I could get down. When you're beat, and you need a quick pick up before a meeting and you can't risk an incident, a chocolate bar goes down without returning. After a long day of keeping nothing "real" down, a pint of ice cream is soothing. Not making excuses, not saying it was the right thing to do, but it's what I did. Instead of homing in on the real physical reactions I was having (my husband, friends, oncologist all noticed and encouraged me to go see my WLS), I kept blaming myself for not trying hard enough. Finally in December, I'd had it and made an appointment. They told me I should've come in six months ago. Since then, I've had an upper GI and will be having an endoscopy next week. I'm eating mostly soft foods the consistancy of yogurt. Couple of days ago, I attempted a single slice of deli ham chew 45 times(I counted) and made six trips to the bathroom. Had a piece of toast last night - no problem. Had a piece of toast this morning - not so good and really creepy in that at 11am in addition to being unable to keep toast down, I could taste what I'd had for dinner the night before!(TMI). Like anything, the band has it's good points and it's not so good points. It's taught me a lot and if it needs to come out, so be it. Since my original surgery, I'm about 50 pounds thinner(hey only 81 pounds to go!) and I've learned what full feels like. I've also learned that most people with a gastric band will need to have it replaced by the 10 year mark and many much sooner. A some point though, the inconveniences and embarassments become a bit too much to deal with. Revision surgery - hadn't even thought about that yet!

Banded, thinking about revision
gloinva replied to Smarty's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi Smarty, I posted many of the same questions on here about a month ago and never did get answers. I also had the band put in 5/2008 and lost an initial 90 lbs. But the last 2 years my allergies have been worse and besides being plagued with reflux when my band had restriction, I would (watch out TMI) throw up mucus all night from the sinus drainage. Sometimes during the day when it wouldn't allow my food to go down blocking my stoma. I kept off the weight for 2 1/2 years and over the last 6 months have put back on about 15 lbs. So I know how frustrating this band can be. I'm on my liver shrinking diet now with surgery scheduled for 6/20 to get a sleeve when my band is taken out. All in one surgery. I'm worried about any damage all the throwing up has caused my esophagus, reflux and the many bouts with esophagitus I've had over the years. I'm asking if they will scope my throat while in there. And of course worried about any damage all this time and throwing up has caused my stomach where the band is. I was self pay with the band and am again self pay with the VSG and band removal. When I had my band put in I had hoped any additional surgeries would have been cosmetic but all my savings is going into getting this blasted band out of me. I too am post hysterectomy and have just been diagnosed with a hypothyroid (mild cause so far) so I am concerned how this will all affect my weight loss with the sleeve. I'm assuming it will be a constant thoughtful way of eating and exercising to get the rest of my eight off and keep it off. Although I have gained a little of my weight back getting any of it off even with the liver shrinking diet is slow to nill. (Thinking it's the thyroid here that's the problem) But I know that without this sleeve I will surely gain it all back so I'm accepting this TOOL to help me get healthier. I hope this helps you some, and good luck with your decision. Gloria -
NSV's: Cute Clothes and A Cute Boyfriend
PrettyThick1 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Miss Pearlie has done an outstanding job in such a short amount of time. I've just had the most romantic weekend and I'm going on pure adrenaline and butterflies today since I only slept for 2 hours last night. Anyway...I can wear the prettiest clothes and it's fun coming up with new combinations to wear them, so for the first time in a very long time I treated myself to a shopping spree on Saturday morning. I came back with clothes that I think I love more than any I've ever had and I can't wait to wear them - something I haven't felt since planning for the first day of school during senior high. And - a guy that I've known for 4 years is looking like he's going to shape up to be a great companion for me. He lives in a neighboring state, but has family (who really like me and have urged him to move back just for me for at least 3 of those years) that he visits often in Houston; he recently accepted a new job and can visit every other weekend now. Call it a hunch, but I can see him moving back to Houston within the next year - I can't see things getting anything but better from here. He is a country gentleman, he's romantic, he loves animals, he's great with kids, has high morals and ethics and he's a good person...a benefit of knowing him for so long before getting to this point. He was attracted and attractive to me before I lost weight, so the doubt about "would he want me if I was the same weight as before" isn't something I have to be concerned about. Another bonus. It's funny...he looks a lot like an actor I had a crush on and his personality matches a character that the actor played in one of my favorite movies (Allen Payne, Jason's Lyric). What's more is that I love the way people look at us, we catch strangers staring and smiling at us and that is so different because before the weight loss, I didn't think we "matched" like he was too attractive to be with me - I know, I know, self esteem, yada yada yada...but now, I don't feel that way and in his own way he "shows me off" when we go out. I never thought I'd be arm candy. LOL Ok...all of this might have been TMI, but I haven't been in love with anyone in more than 14 years - this is an amazing development and I want to share it with the world. -
A few questions/comments
excited2lose replied to tennessee1031's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think I went to the bathroom until about day 7 or 8. Even then, it wasn't much. (Sorry TMI) Not sure on labs. At first, I could hardly take any Water also. It gets better. I was sleeved 1/25 and I am having no issues even gulping water now. Take as much as you can in a day, but also know it does get better! -

My port and my bra are not getting along at all. 2 weeks post op and of course my port area is sore as expected. Heck my steri-strips just fell off a few days ago. Anyway...Finally got out today & went to the mall and had several "Ouch" moments. My port was killing me when I would bend a certain way or reach. Got home and figured out it was my bra causing the irritation. With the bra on it causes restriction so when I bend it would pull. But afer all those pains I felt i am now braless but still having pain. So back to the Loritab I go and Sports Bras from on until I heal. I know...tmi

Ladies, I haven't ovulated in sometime that I forgot what it's like. I haven't gotten a period in 2 months and I'm 7 weeks post op. Saturday I had clear watery discharge and it was long. (TMI) I know sorry... Well shortly after I started cramping and than stopped started to cramp again Sunday. No period yet!! I took a test last week not pregnant just to be safe because my periods come when hey want. So I don't know if I ovulated or what?? Any advice?

I am on my feet all day (I'm a teacher) and prior to surgery I had all kinds of tests - all normal. This may be TMI - but I'm just getting to the end of my cycle and it looks like the swelling may be going down a little. This was my first one since banding and today is day 7! So perhaps my hormones are out of whack.

I had a fill yesterday of .6 with a total of 5.5 and I definitely feel different! I know it's probably too soon to tell, but all the other times when I had fills I felt the same. Bad thing is I had to learn the hard way! I was on liquids yesterday and suppose to be on liquids/soft foods today and I ate some chicken! OMG! this was my 2nd stuck episode and it was very bad....I know it is all my fault and I don't know why I don't listen...I'm guessing since the first few fills I was able to eat on the 2nd day, so I tried it. What should I do? I feel like I irritated my bad, since some of it came back up, well mostly slime..Sorry for the TMI! I'm assuming liquids for the next 2 days? Also how many CC's do u have and how long did it take u to get there? I feel like I jumped up to 5 so quickly, in 2 months...Thanks!

How is everyone doing? I'm in the hospital still, they said 2 days. Ready to go back to my family. So far I've been able to hold down water soup and jello. I had my leak test this morning and everything looked great. Once I leave here I know it's sip sip sip all day long, Pain level is up and down still and still no bowel movement sorry for tmi But I'm scared to go, feels like my stomach will fall out. Everything happens for a reason... -
Hello I was banded April 4 2015. Down 28 pounds. I'm getting closer to the max fills that my band can take and Ito has been a struggle. The highest weight loss I had was when the fill was too much and I was missable for 3 days and unable to eat or drink. They remove that fill and I kept what I lost for a month. Later in I got a tiny fill it was good for a few days but lately I feel it tighter and can't experiment with anything as I get stuck constantly On Monday I'm getting littl fluid out Night time are the worst if I eat at night then I can't sleep as I get up to vomit or saliva coming out for my nose ( sorry about the tmi) but I need to speak with someone that can understand me. I don't feel I'm eating healthy. When I was heavier I think I ate better. Please help

Post Op/cycle-hormonal changes
jennay5180 replied to neenee717's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was wicked crazy!! My cycle started on 7/24/10...lasted for the normal 4-5 days that mine regulary do. I had my surgery on the 10th of August....and got my period again on 19th of August. I then had it for 4.5 weeks afterwards. Some days were regular, some days were light, and some days were super heavy with thick clots. Sorry...TMI, I know...but just sharing! I had a visit to my OB-GYN and she said that everything looked fine. They drew some blood b/c she wanted to do a test on the hormones and to see if I was anemic from all of the bleeding. I haven't had the results....but I was just pleased to hear that she thought it was from the 22.5 lb weight loss in a month and a half that caused it. Plus, my surgeon said that surgery is such a stress on your body....that it'll end up doing some weird things! Yup...he was right! I'm just glad that it is over! -
Crazy hormones wreaking havoc on my band
sweetbean70 replied to Tralynn222's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LOL! It is so good to know that the band is going to help me in the exact opposite direction during "that time of the month." I can always tell when my period is on the way b/c i constantly find myself in front of the fridge or raiding the pantry for something to eat while the whole time I am telling myself that I am not hungry. I am getting banded on June 8th and if the surgery doesn't throw off my cycle, my "visitor" should arrive around the 20th (sorry, TMI). I will have to keep an eye out for the tight feeling. -
You have been warned! So I started my period 1 week before surgery I have been flowing for 22 days. I'm tired of it. Anyone else go through this? I have a lady doc appointment Monday but good grief enough already.
