  1. I know what you mean about the worrying. If you feel that it is more pain than you should be having, I would contact your surgeon and ask him what he thinks you should do. I was given a huge binder full of pretty much everything I could expect from this surgery (as well as what to do and how to eat in each phase) and I kept it next to me on the couch for 6 weeks. I read through it regularly to make sure I was on track. My surgeon told me to expect a lot of pain but I blew him off. I don't usually have a lot of pain from surgery and I HATE pain meds, so I was caught off guard and questioned everything. I am glad your gas pain is changing. I had loose stools for about a minute and then....nothing. For many, many days. I got so constipated from those drugs it was crazy. I actually (TMI alert!) developed a fissure. Now THAT was excruciating!!! Miralax has been my constant companion since then, and even now I still get bound up. Hopefully your symptoms will clear up in a day or so and you won't end up going to the extreme opposite end of the spectrum like I did. Just remember to drink pretty much every time you are not "eating." I know it is all liquid at this point, but Water will help stave off constipation after the loose stools end. I really do hope you start feeling better soon. You have been through a lot! Welcome to the other side, though. Soon this will all be behind you and you will be able to get on with getting healthy!

    TMI! Question

I was taking a stool softener but man does it make me sick to the point I can't have any food after I take it and we all know how painful going to the bathroom is now at least for me so any advice on what I can do to help me and not get sick! Thank u all
  3. Thanks for asking Sreeves, actually, my gas has changed. TMI alert. Instead of gas, I'm getting 'rumbling' in my lower abdomen, resulting in a small, but noticeable, loose stool. How could I have stool when all I'm doing is drinking? I drink warm decaf tea w lemon, beef or chicken broth, skim milk and SF Koolaid. Not in any order. But I'm scared I'll try to pass gas when it's actually something else. I haven't taken the gas-x yet. What's worse than the pain, is being scared a possible symptom means this and/or that and you worry, worry , worry. Like I am now. ????

    A little TMI

Is/Has anyone had problems with constipation? I'm three weeks out, drinking plenty of fluids, but it's not helping. I'm still eating very little (about 500 calories a day) so I'm not expecting normal poops, but I wasn't expecting to have such trouble going either! Suggestions? I know I can have Beans in the diet phase I'm in. Maybe I just need to have some every day. Ick. Meg

    OCTOBER 2014

@Luna222--Hey there! Missed you! I'm doing good. (If you read back a little ways, I just got engaged! Whoohoo!!) So you're still stuck?? Are you measuring too? Wondering if you're toning and losing inches? TMI Alert!!---I've been stuck at about 158-159 since I got home from vacation. But it's also been at least a week since I've really "gone to the bathroom." And I take a mild natural pill to help keep things moving and still nothing...UNTIL this morning. Whew!!! Pretty sure that scale will have moved when I weigh again tomorrow morning. Wowzers! (sorry... )

    Haven't told anyone...

I am in the same private little boat. I have only told my husband and my twin- even then I had to make it clear it was not negotiable, I was sharing the information for support and because it would be too much not to tell with this dynamic. I have no intention of offering the information to anyone else, though I don't know yet what I would say if asked. Time will tell. For me, there is some shame in not being able to lose weight, but more than that I don't want to have to explain myself to people at my age. I had a trial run a while back while I was just "thinking" about it. At that time I spoke freely about it and sure enough - everyone becomes a dietitian and health guru. I had people telling me they will get me in shape. I was athletic when I was younger and have had my weight gain for almost 10 years (around 8-10 pounds a year) and most people just tell me I just have to do what I was doing before. It's just too much to explain to them how the weight gain happened. I lost a son, and then a couple years after my mom and sister to cancer, and during this time I lost control of exercise and weight management. Theres more to the story usually, and I really just want to move on with my life and avoid the lengthy retelling to everyone as I explain my personal health decision. So for now, I will tell them the TRUTH... I have lost weight by drastically cutting my calories. Maybe after the fact, I will say something, but for now - TMI.
  8. Did your doctor at least give you UTI antibiotics? My urethra hates me and I get UTI's a few times a year. As a point of possibly TMI, I have had 2 UTI's in the last month. One of them I didn't even need the test because there was blood in the urine, but the test came back positive, the second time earlier this week, the test was negative, but within 24 hours of taking antibiotics, my symptoms had started to clear up. A UTI test doesn't always pick up the problem so maybe ask your doctor to give you some antibiotics and see if it helps clear it up. Also, you can take those AZO tablets at the drug store. They turn your urine orange, which is weird, but they do help relieve some of the symptoms. Oh and a heating pad between my legs does wonders for the urgency and burning feeling. Past that, I have not had any issues with Protein shakes causing that sort of problem, at least to my knowledge. Hope you feel better!
  9. Hello I've been a member of this site for a while now, since I started looking into having VGS. I have been lurking around reading and earning so much. You have all helped with my decision, when I finally decided to go ahead with the surgery with all the valuable information you share with amongst each other and offer support when someone is in need. After deliberating for over 2 years I decided I wanted to get the surgery. I had my surgery on 11th June and so far I have had a perfect recovery. I prepared myself for the worst and was pleasantly surprised. All was going well until day 6 and have been struck with the worst case of constipation I have ever known. My problem is I'm too afraid to go as I think if I strain too much ( I know sorry TMI) and cause a leak in my new stomach.I have been taking Lactulose twice a day as prescribed by my doc. Can anyone tell me, do you use your stomach muscles for a BM? Can constipation cause a leak?
  10. I think in the beginning there wasn't a whole lot to really "go" as it was all liquids that I was taking in. There was nothing "solid" really coming out (sorry if that's tmi). But as the months have progressed (I'm 21 months post op now), sticking to the diet has proven challenging to get enough Fiber in. I either have to take a fiber supplement or take miralax or MOM a couple of times a week to keep things regular. Otherwise, it would be a problem.
  11. File this under #yuckity-yuck and #butseriousquestion. I've only a few days until surgery and the question hit me - I will get straight to the point -- When using the bathroom (#2), was anyone limited by the surgery and did you have difficulty, uhm, cleaning yourself? This isn't an issue for me currently, and I'm hoping it isn't during recovery from surgery. If you had this issue, what did you do to help mitigate it? Thanks!
  12. Sorry if this is TMI - anyone else have trouble going enough after surgery? I remember in the hospital that it took quite a while once I went in to the restroom (I didn't have a catheter) and I just sort of figured it was due to the anesthesia. Additionally, I ended up passing a 4mm kidney stone 48 hours after RNY and then another 4mm about 6 days after RNY. I have ongoing kidney stone issues, so that didn't surprise me necessarily but my concern is that I just don't seem to be able to go that much. I am getting in 50ish ounces (including Protein shakes) which I know isn't enough long term, but only drinking 1 oz every 15 minutes makes it tough to drink a lot more. I am 8 days post op now and just able to drink about twice that but still not having a lot of output. My first post-op appt is Tuesday so I can ask then if it is normal. Just thought I would ask if anyone else has had issues or if maybe I need to call my urologist on Monday.

    June Sleevers!

t hi s may be TMI, but passing gas after surgery has made me feel so much better!
  14. I got sleeved on tuesday june 9th and i have to say the gas pain has been the worst thing out of this whole process at the hospital i will walk it off and try to burp and walk again. At home i would get up with a pillow on my stomach for support and sit on the toilet and move a little side to side or in small circles(waist up...sorry i know TMI) but this has worked for me. Sorry for going soo much in detail but if it has worked for me it could work for u.
  15. ***TMI ALERT*** Oh, I've done all sorts of stupid diets but the worst, hands down? The Alli pills. The idea is that the pills soak up all the fat you eat and you, um, excrete it rather than your body absorbing it. If you ate too much fat you would have an accident. So that was supposed to encourage you to stick to a low-fat diet. Well, of course we all know low-fat diets don't satisfy you so eventually I would slip up and eat something with too much fat in it. At the time I worked at a high-end corporate law firm and being unable to control my bowels was NOT an option! And! I was pooping ORANGE! After one too many pairs of ruined panties I threw the damned pills away.
  16. Hydroxycut....it makes you loose. But oh man, its expensive, made me feel like i was wired on coffee, and made my (TMI ALERT) poop black. Not to mention i gained all my weight plus 10lbs when i stopped taking them.

    Spicy food

I am probably an exception but I can no longer eat spicey foods. I can't even tolerate very much black pepper. I can take a couple of bites and it goes to burning my stomach and then my stomach starts all of it's foaming and everything comes up...TMI!! Then my stomach is irritated for several days and I cannot eat anything. I was always a big spicey eater before the surgery.....I cannot even tolerate barbeque sauce with the least amount of punch to it.

    3 days post op

I'm 4 days post op today too! Everything I (tmi disclaimer) fart the pressure eases. Walking helps alot. I've been walking 30 to 40 minutes ever day. Today I did my first grocery shopping trip. Wore me out, but I got my walking in and it move more of that gad alone.
  19. I had surgery on Tuesday June 2nd I am having more pain today than I have since the first day after surgery. I haven't been taking pain pills because I can't sleep and they make me itch. I can handle the pain I just want to make sure it's nothing serious. I have been walking a lot. I still feel bloated and haven't had a BM since before surgery. (Sorry TMI, I know). Anybody else have these issues?

  21. so this may be a bit TMI but i have always suffered from hyperhidrosis which is basically over active sweating disorder. my main area being my feet. since surgery however,my feet are white, dry and peeling all over the bottoms. its very embarrassing. literally they feel like sandpaper. could this be a side effect of not getting enough fluids in? its not athlete's foot trust me.
  22. What size were you before wls? If you dont mind me asking...i know its tmi.
  23. I've had the Mirena for about 3 years now -- had bypass surgery 4+ months ago. What I can tell you re my experience w/the Mirena is that is has been a life-changing positive experience for me!! I had EXTREMELY heavy periods for about 5 years during peri-menopause, probably starting in my early 50's (now 59). I mean, and sorry if TMI, passing HUGE clots, soaking thru super-tampons and multiple pads, etc. Finally found an OB-GYN who understood and with my weight (highest was 390), she was concerned I might have uterine or ovarian cancer. Biopsies later, thank goodness, did not, but she highly recommended the Mirena for controlling my periods even though I didn't need it for b/c. It literally changed my life for the better! After a few weeks, during which I had slight spotting here and there, my periods just stopped. To go from "afraid to go anywhere because when I stand up I pass clots" to "normal" was amazing. Before my bypass surgery, I did ask if losing weight would possibly make it come "loose", which might sound silly, but I was a bit concerned, and was told no. This doesn't exactly answer your questions, but since you mentioned Mirena, I wanted to let you know what a positive thing it has been for me. Best of luck!
  24. Hi there, I had my band to sleeve revision last Friday the 29th. Surgery took 3 hrs, was in the hospital for 2 nights. Now at 4 days post op...It's going okay. I'm super bloated and look pregnant, but I'm walking walking walking....that should help. I'm still on clear liquids and able to get in adequate amount. The pain I was not expecting was the cramping after each sip of liquids. I'm taking a med called Hyoscyamine Sulfate 0.125mg... that dissolves under my tongue...seems to help a little. I've been on liquid Vicodin and going to start taking plain Acetaminophen liquid tonight instead. I've had a couple of BMs....it was pure liquid. (Sorry....TMI but it helped me when reading other people's recoveries with all the lovely details). Good luck everyone. You can do this! Let's do this together!!!
  25. Hi ladies I have a tmi question. My surgery was April 16th. I could start birth control a month after surgery. About 2 weeks in after taking BC I started AF. The first day it was red/brown and today is day 2 and it's dark brown. I read it could be from rapid weight loss. I've lost 57 lbs. Have any of you experienced this ? Just curious. Thanks
