  1. No one warned me about weight stalls, but they sure do happen. Mine were at about 3 weeks and again at 6 weeks. But I agree with the poster who said only pay attention to reaching another "decade" down. Those zeros are magical! So is entering "onederland"! I probably weigh too often, but 3 months out with RnY tomorrow, and I don't get discouraged if the scale doesn't move as fast as I'd like. Instead, I celebrate" "NSV" (Non-academic Victories) : looser clothes/smaller sizes, more mobility and stamina, better emotional outlook about the future. You will make it! We are here for you! Beating yourself up nutritionally speaking

@@LisaMergs, You did awesome! Great job on a last-minute fast food choice! It definitely wasn’t the healthiest possible food in the world, but it was an excellent choice given the circumstances. You got some Protein and kept the calories and carbs in check. Nobody is perfect, and lessons like this are great. They show that you can still come out on top even if you make mistakes, such as in this case not planning ahead and having your own food with you, and not checking the nutrition facts before ordering. Good work! I agree with @@Inner Surfer Girl that most fast food restaurants have reasonable options as long as you stop and think. Grilled chicken, eggs, side salads, and small burgers are usually possibilities – just skip the bread. Also, sides of fresh fruit including apple slices or yogurt are often available. In general, I think it’s good to have some idea of what to order at some of the major fast food restaurants just in case you end up there. I always try to know what my choices are at McDonald’s, Subway, and Starbucks since I figure there is almost sure to be one of those restaurants no matter where I am. I don’t tend to beat myself up over nutrition. I generally prefer healthy foods, and I know that even if I have some junk occasionally, I know that my diet is overall pretty healthy. Anyway, good choice, and thanks for sharing your NSV!

    NSV: Massage

Eeeewwww! No thank you. With my Fibro, just the idea of some one laying their hands on me and applying pressure makes me hurt. I realize that massage is wonderful of some people and helpful. It's just not for me. I guess I'll just have to keep searching for my pleasure NSV. It's out there somewhere. In the meantime, Enjoy ISG! You've certainly earned your "massage moments". Enjoy, my friend.

    NSV: Massage

You're a shadow of your former self, a mere slip of a lass. This is the sort of NSV that makes weepy.

    NSV: Massage

As some of you know, one of my favorite rewards is getting a massage. I had one this week and was thinking about what progress I have made since surgery. When I started getting massages I wasn't even sure if I could get on the massage table and needed help getting on the table and off. Now, I can get on and off the table all by myself as well as turn over on the table by myself, too!

  11. As I said in your other thread, I was also self-pay in the US and borrowed a ton of money from a loved one to do it (I was open to traveling to keep costs down, but the people in my life I rely on for support and advice were resistant. I DO NOT mean they are correct or that the way I did it is the better way. I just mean that in my case it was the simpler way to accomplish this part of my goal). In retrospect I would have borrowed twice as much...we borrow so much to buy houses, if we are able and if we choose to, or cars, or whatever...this is your body and your life, and I totally get funding it any way you can. There is a steep learning curve to every part of this-- to recovery, to living with the sleeve, to helping it help you best. I'm sticking to my surgeon's program but I still make mistakes -- but I keep telling myself there's no mistake I will make twice! Each one has consequences that are too memorable - and I don't mean in a way you should scrapbook - for you to risk repeating. I know I say it in every post but I am so glad I took this step. It is helping me approach so many areas of my life in a more positive and productive way, maybe because it all but forces you to put your healthy self first (or suffer soon after). You'll also find NSVs all over the place, not just the ones you're anticipating now. I could try to list them all but it would take forever

    BIG NSV

Just wanted to chime in that I got a two-fer when I went to my doctor light headed this week He stopped one of my blood pressure meds... hence the lightheadedness. Then he went on to remove Diabetes from my chart! I nearly cried.
  13. After months of battling with my insurance and freaking out because they won't cover any of it, my grandparents are loaning me the money and I got my surgery date scheduled for October 5th! I cannot wait!!! I am so excited to start this new journey in my life and finally be able to live my life and not let my weight keep me from the things I have always wanted to do. One of the NSV I'm looking forward to is being able to shop wherever and maybe wearing a bikini for the first time. AHHHHH Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App

    The night before.....

Just wondering why you were placed in the ICU? Was there a complication? We agreed with the surgical team in advance that due to potential sleep apnea I should have close observations. Added benefits of monitoring has contributed to me coming home after just 20hrs!! So far I have had no issue and been able to keep down milkshake, water, beef Soup. I'm bracing myself for a couple of days of pain as the operation takes its toll. It's done now the only way is down ( in clothes size) feeling really positive about the future. Building my NSV list. Xx
  15. I've recently become interested in collar bones. I was flipping through some old pics and I never really noticed or cared that I had them. Now that I don't... apparently the appearance of collar bones are a hug NSV (non scale victory) and symbolize significant weight loss. I'm sure it's going to be different for everyone but I'm just curious at approx. what weight did you start to see them? No matter how I twist and hunch-- I cant find them anywhere! I feel them though-- looking forward to reuniting with them LOL!
  16. Cleaned my closet over the weekend to get ready for Fall. Well, now I either have to go shopping--(which I hate unless it's for fishing tackle) or I have to remain in my PJs for the winter. None, and I do mean none, of my winter clothes fit to where I would wear them outside of the house. I guess this is a NSV, but it's upsetting. I really have some beautiful Fall and Winter clothes from when I used "high end" entertain with John and his diamond jewelers' circle. How times are "achanging". Moving on isn't always all smiles and sunshine, I guess, but moving on is what I am determined to do.

Valentina, I'm so glad to read this... your difficulty parting with clothes that don't fit. I'm not to that stage my a long shot, but have already walked into my closet and walked out shaking my head. I feel like I've given up a lot. So not ready to give up the clothes too.

Gosh girl... just so proud of you. And so glad you are better. You sound like your old self again.

  17. I am anxiously waiting for my final insurance approval and surgery date. As I've been waiting, I've been thinking a lot about this topic. My top NSVs are: 1. Be able to get through my yoga class without having to modify the poses because my body is too big to get into the proper position. 2. Recognize myself in the mirror. Today, I avoid them because I don't recognize the person staring back at me as "me." It's so uncomfortable when your insides don't match the outside. 3. Be able to cover myself in a standard sized towel rather than a bath sheet. I travel a lot and hotel towels are never big enough! 4. Enjoy (or at least not dread) having my picture taken. I regret that I have so few pictures of myself and my kids when they were small. 5. Not dread going to school and my kids' sporting events for fear of being the biggest mom there (most other moms in my area are pretty fit). 6. Not having to shop in the plus-sized section or order everything online because the clothing stores I like don't carry my size in-store.

    NSV today!

Today I had a NSV. At work (a popular gym) it was pizza night ( don't get me started on that), and I didn't have one peice not even a BITE and for the most part I wasn't even tempted. I ate my lunch and drank my Water. At one point I walked over to the boxes and even opened it up and I was strong enough to say no. I've also been doing really well with my eating. Side note: anyone else who was told to swallow and wait 60 seconds to take another bite? I've been using the stop watch on my phone and find it helps me a lot! 19. So, here I am, just a few days shy of 9 months post-op. Some of my favorite NSVs have been a surprise to me. Here are my favorites: 1. Having to buy new shoes. Who knew your feet would shrink. 2. Running a 12 minute mile. I hate running, but I had to try...just because I could now run. 3. Not having to expend mental energy every time I go to sit, stand, bend over, or any other physical activity I used to have to think about before doing it. 4. Being told by my Primary Care doctor that she didn't need to see me every 4 months any more, but just twice a year as I am now considered to be a healthy person with no issues. 5. Having a group of Firemen flirt with me in the grocery store. I looked behind me, because I was certain they were talking to someone over my shoulder. =) Seriously, at 50 this is quite the NSV. 6. sleeping through the night and waking up with energy. Loving my sleeve and so glad I had the surgery.
  20. I hate roller coasters, I get very sick, but I just rode the Manta at SeaWorld yesterday because it was my sons birthday weekend and he wanted to ride. Guess what? I kinda rode it because I COULD!!! I fit damnit and I was gonna ride, even if I puked afterwards!!! NSV Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
